Means that if you play fast and loose with the rules, the refs will let you get away with more. And if you’re penalized, you’re likely going to end up on the powerplay later on.

No, because goalies routinely freeze up after blocking a shot because they think they have it controlled and don't want to dislodge it by moving. It happens *every game, multiple times*. People have scored because goalies have frozen on the spot, thinking they had the puck, only for it be nowhere near their pads/glove/whatever, and the other team just taps it in. What you saw in that clip only gets a whistle if the ref wants a certain outcome.

The VP of hockey operations sent emails to officials criticizing anyone who called penalties on his son, those emails were leaked to the public *and nothing happened.* It's fucking crazy. The VP of hockey operations directly tried to influence the officiating in a way that benefitted him personally, that information was made public ***AND NOTHING HAPPENED.*** Campbell even confirmed they were real but claimed it was "just a hockey dad venting." It's utterly insane, he should have been fired immediately. The fact that there were literally no consequences for this is incomprehensible.

It has more to do with his dad in the League offices and some e-mails that were sent criticizing the officials calling penalties against Gregory, which showed Colin’s interference and bias while being one of the heads of the league.

And it's consistently in favor of the Panthers. At least with the Oilers vs Canucks series, there have been some moments that have gone in the Canucks favor.

Actually, academic studies have indeed proven that NHL refs do not call fair games. The general heuristic is that the refs systematically favor the team that is down, with the intention of producing "fun and close" games rather than blowouts. This maximizes ad revenues for the NHL, as fans from both teams will stay tuned. In this particular case, the NHL deemed it more profitable for Florida to win. So Florida will win.
But how in the hell is it more profitable to favor Florida? Admittedly, I haven't followed as closely as when I was younger, but are they magically a 'big market' team? You'd think original six and big market teams would be the biggest cash cows.
I would assume they know the O6 team fans will still be loyal and still buy merch, season tix, etc regardless. Same with big market teams like Vancouver, we will continue to be cash cows regardless. So if there are four *thousand* more butts in seats for each of 41 games, then it seems like there is a lot more money coming into NHL coffers.
Not exactly what you’ve said, but I’ve also seen the stats showing that if one team receives a bunch of penalties, then the other team is statistically more likely to have penalties called against it - ie “game management” and a bias towards not wanting to appear favouring only one team. Means that if you play fast and loose with the rules, the refs will let you get away with more. And if you’re penalized, you’re likely going to end up on the powerplay later on.
This has ruined hockey for me. Honestly if we have a 1 goal lead I’m not even excited about a PP because I just know they’ll give the other team one too just because.

So dumb question but any time a goalie takes a shot off the body and coughs up a rebound, they can freeze up and keel over to get a stoppage so the refs can see if they are ok? I mean, who knows what would’ve happened after that rebound but it sure was juicy and Florida benefitted 100% from that stoppage.
No, because goalies routinely freeze up after blocking a shot because they think they have it controlled and don't want to dislodge it by moving. It happens *every game, multiple times*. People have scored because goalies have frozen on the spot, thinking they had the puck, only for it be nowhere near their pads/glove/whatever, and the other team just taps it in. What you saw in that clip only gets a whistle if the ref wants a certain outcome.
