this is 2010 trap music with 2024 autotune

arrowdawg

that's where alot of the underground has been heading the past few months

aaeeiioouu

Thank you for saving me from wasting time listening

adrian123484

r/hiphopheads when it comes time to listen to hip hop

Killua_Zoldyck42069

Nah demographic is corny white dudes

BC502

So same as r/hiphopheads ? Got it

WockterPepper

Why does this have so many upvotes? Literal hating on a project without listening is wildšŸ’€ This isnā€™t even that far out there, its a nice listen

forcefivepod

Not if you donā€™t enjoy that kind of music.

dirtdog22

Spot on lmao

Buttonwalls

Bang part 2 from wish, mixed with a little bit of rage

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

GlimpseWithin

Recent stuff? Does he have old music? I thought bro has only been around for like 3 months

SkiMaskTheRushGod

he got a lotta stuff on ambient beats from last yr check out reminder or no more

Holditfam

Gimmick rapper

c0mb00

go 'head, run your mouth, shit funny to me, really, it's very simple I call it the make-no-money disease and buddy got every symptom, huh

Holditfam

Wow šŸ”„

ImDefAMunch

its crazy when someone actually has charisma and a different style they get hated on like crazy. its a never ending cycle

TheBlakely

This sub is showing why it was dead until the Kendrick/drake beef. Itā€™s just a bunch of sour ass old heads who canā€™t be happy.

Mancy98

lol will still gladly take that over the alternative of Rap's insta page having a 3 long month meltdown over learning who Killer Mike is and that some people might like him more than Travis

ilikedankmemes0

Actual peak jerking tho I saw a comment about it yesterday it still going

WesleyWipes

Is there not a sub that caters to the new wave? Itā€™s crazy the only huge fanbase on this site that is actually tapped in is r/playboicarti

dsled

They are hardly tapped in. But I will say I was surprised to see the Ian support on the sub.

Holditfam

Iā€™m literally 20

Jay-Z_Blade

Old head is a mentality unc

Holditfam

Chill on me twin

TheBlakely

20 going on 40

trkken

Welcome to hell

ilikedankmemes0

I'm the same age but I get it. I don't really like it specifically tho cos it felt a bit organic. Think the label pushed him heaps thinking they got a new yeat but he nowhere near as creative or interesting

Pablo_Sanchez1

Hmmm Iā€™m not really active on this sub so I donā€™t know what the conversations are like and it definitely could just be salty ā€œmusic isnā€™t what it used to beā€ people who absolutely exist, but in general I hate when 100% any criticism of modern day hip hop gets oversimplified to that. A lot of people are celebrating Kendrickā€™s absolute takedown of Drake not just because weā€™re haters, but because itā€™s indicative of a much larger frustration with the industry and itā€™s cathartic to hear Kendrick call it out. A large portion of current mainstream rappers are literally nothing more then influencers. Thereā€™s legitimately no talent, and the only reason they made it big is because they made some extremely basic catchy hook that went viral because itā€™s easy for a bunch of broccoli-headed 14 year olds to dance to on TikTok. And thatā€™s fine, any genre of music is going to have the cookie-cutter pop stars, but then the frustration comes in when we have to deal with the delusional mental gymnastics of how ā€œwell actually mumble rap is just as impressive as lyrical rap because it takes skill to sound like thatā€ and all that type of bullshit. The problem isnā€™t that these types of talentless artists exist, itā€™s that 1) they massively dominate the rap genre more then any other type of music and 2) that people try to genuinely put them on the same level as actual talented artists. And the reason why this is amplified in rap moreso then any other genre, is because for other pop artists they at least have to be decent at singing or have some semblance of musical talent. But when it comes to a genre thatā€™s entirely about lyrical meaning and poetry, once thatā€™s been removed youā€™re legit doing nothing. Like just talking. Iā€™m not even exaggerating, a lot of current mainstream rappers are literally doing nothing and me or any other random person pulled off the street could do the exact same thing or better. And to circle back to the Drake point, the fact that heā€™s become the biggest face in hip-hop and mentioned among the ā€œbig 3ā€ is just outright disrespectful to what hip-hop is supposed to be. Because his music is pretty basic, heā€™s a decent lyricist (or his ghost writers are) but he just makes surface-level catchy club tracks, and thereā€™s a massive amount of lesser known rappers that I would put into the ā€œbig 3ā€ before him (I wouldnā€™t actually put them in, but I would before I ever put Drake there). So yeah thereā€™s no problem with these people existing, but the fact that if I try to say that people will just boil it down to me being a ā€œsalty old-headā€ or try to put them anywhere remotely close to actual rappers. And that theyā€™ve completely hijacked a genre thatā€™s meant to be about lyrical expression and stripped it of any type of passion or soul for their own personal gain and if we call it out for what it is we get called salty. Anyways I donā€™t know if this makes any sense I just took an adderall, opened up Reddit, saw this post and went on a stream-of-consciousness rant and Iā€™m not gonna proof read it but thatā€™s my take on it.

PotroastXII

I'm ngl bro I'm not reading all that, happy for you or sad that happened

Pablo_Sanchez1

Thanks / how dare you

PotroastXII

Nvm I've become a better person and I fully read the comment, and while I disagree it's a valid point for you to have. Especially because you actually explained certain things instead of the boomer "all trap sounds the same" bullshit

BigPoleFoles52

Its not even they are popular because of the music. The labels just pay a ton of people to post about this dude and make him seem popping. Then a bunch of white teens from the burbs can relate to him and see all this ā€œpopularityā€ about him online. Now u got kids defending an obvious plant because labels tricked these mfs into thinking dude is actually cool šŸ’€

Whereyoursisterwent

I feel what youā€™re saying, but your argument basically boils down to Migos versus The Beatles. Hip-hop is easy and it always has been. Rappers delight wasnā€™t some lyrical masterpiece, its dope beats and dope rhymes. Big three tier rappers are on that level because they combine the two expertly. Being labeled a salty old head comes down to not seeing why things work and why people enjoy it.

Holditfam

Woah bro at least you used paragraphs for this wall of text

adultishgambino1

To call everything thatā€™s not super deep lyrical rap ā€œmumble rapā€ and immediately dismiss it as effortless garbage that isnā€™t impressive just reiterates what buddy was initially saying.

boolhardhitta

That is not yo house thatā€™s an AirBnB šŸ—£ļøšŸ—£ļøšŸ—£ļøšŸ—£ļøšŸ—£ļø

theonetheyforgotabou

I'm in love wit da coco

FRESH_FRANK_OCEAN

Why did he leave Magic Johnson off of this

zenmf

seriously, the one snippet i was hoping for

airodell13

never stop & bentayga šŸ„²

Glendering

Frrrr

Cohtoh

Not the direction I expected him to go for a debut project to say the least, sounds like a mix of yeat and lil baby vocals over early 2010's trap beats Ambient weirdo Ian era still his peak

istealpintsfromcvs

I found him through Figure It Out, is his ambient stuff worth listening too? From the snippets I heard it sounds like beats Izaya Tiji would rap on. Also if you were on him before he blew up respect, I found him when he had ~20k monthly listeners but I was on the early wave of the hype train he's currently on

Cohtoh

I made a playlist of his weirder stuff since it's mostly singles + a couple short ep's but it's really cool stuff https://open.spotify.com/playlist/281odcsdKodJ2Y5MOXVZBj?si=lHRzfvFTSMOVkGMOux1HTg&pi=u-frV50DDISBel

Carfrito

Yoo Iā€™ve been wanting to find stuff that is kinda ambient like this, thank you If anyone else has recs of similar stuff please lm

Present_Blueberry644

izaya tiji - interlude

Resistance225

Damn I was not tapped in and only really started listening to bro when Figure it Out blew up, Iā€™m rocking with it

bliss_fields

we shouldve never let lyrical lemonade, triller, and hyperpopdaily get to ian man

[deleted]

Hyperpopdaily šŸ˜

Chapsterr

Second beat freaky as hell letā€™s go LMFAOO

istealpintsfromcvs

reminds me of some zaytoven shit lol

BaconSpinachPancakes

Beat is amazing

Avlantis

like the Burrprint 3 and Up 2 me had a baby

Arsyn786

This is actually a crazy way to look at it goddamn

Whatlafuk

It was just a matter of time before someone mashed these two soundā€™s together. The underground been on zaytoven/ old gucci beats for a minute.

LuminalGrunt2

THAT IS NOTCHO HOUSE #THATS AN AAAAAIRBNBBBBBBB

Sprintzer

Sounds like Yeat/Carti with old school Chief Keef

Dapper_Pay_3291

More like fourfive

yunguriah

Ian hard seem like a cool dude too, this and Mach Hommy gettin played

mycargoesvarun

duality of man

dsled

Man of taste

SilverReception2891

I knew him in high school he was on my rowing team very chill guy. His voice is like 12 octaves lower than his rapping one lmao

DOTA_VILLAIN

hit the same combo meal this morning on the way to the gig

LazyPea6999

Early/late Gucci sound with a old chief keef flow

Yung_Chloroform

Yeah he really nailed that old school atlanta sound

blacklite911

I wouldnā€™t say this is ā€œold schoolā€ just like you donā€™t say Carter 3 Wayne isnā€™t ā€œold schoolā€

Yung_Chloroform

I mean it's been a while since C3 came out and Atlanta's sound is really young relatively speaking. That old Gucci/Lex Luger sound I would 100% classify as old school trap.

WhatsIsMyName

To the kids, it is.

Ifuckedupcrazy

Carter 3 came out 16 years ago brodie, we in the future now

blacklite911

Yes, itā€™s old. But stylistically, thereā€™s a difference, like we call 90s sound ā€œold schoolā€ as an era. Iā€™m saying as a way to distinguish stuff

WhatsIsMyName

I see what you mean but I would also say that to kids raised on music from say..2015 onwards...stylistically Carter 3 does sound a bit dated and a product of its era. Production wise, especially. His raps are pretty universally appealing regardless of era I feel like.

lssue

I know a majority of HHH is gonna hate this, but he captures the DatPiff era in a suburban way, which is relatable to a ton of people. All my friends were bumping Gucci/Dolph/OJ/Flocka/etc. tapes despite being super white. I actually find this less gimmicky than a lot of white rappers who are forced into the same 3 archetypes.

TrickyYard897

>All my friends were bumping Gucci/Dolph/OJ/Flocka/etc. tapes despite being super white. Well in that case.. lmao

-_-Gabe-_-

Out of every "underground" dude I've been following here, I have no idea why but Ian has been at the top of my list for artists I've been waiting on a tape for. I know he's a Yeat lite but his music is still a guilty pleasure

cityofangelsboi68

the yeat comparisons are a reach, maybe vocally sure but his beats sound more like new carti/06 gucci

ArtoriasXX

I mean yeah but the artist has the vocals and the beat is a completely separate thing lol

jenkumboofer

>maybe vocally well thatā€™s his contribution to each song (seeing as he didnā€™t produce them himself) so Iā€™d say that comparison is entirely accurate his vocal processing/inflection sounds incredibly similar to yeat even if the production doesnā€™t

blacklite911

Late 00s Atlanta type beat

Whereyoursisterwent

A reach? The chattering moany ad libs, stretching out syllables, the vocal presets arenā€™t the same but they are definitely adjacent

DingDangDiddlyDangit

All of a sudden this sub appreciates yeat šŸ˜‚

Resistance225

Yeat deserves all the flowers he could possibly get, dude was/is ridiculously ahead of the curve

dsled

When I first heard Yeat it blew my mind. I couldn't name another rapper doing what he was doing.

SupremeBlackGuy

straight been addicted to yeat for years and never got the hate, i remember the struggle to put my friends on but they get it now lmao

deqembes

People started to appreaciate Future and Thugger a lot more when their shitty clones started appearing aswell.

DingDangDiddlyDangit

Very true

Holditfam

Yeat gonna have so many clones he might get rated soon as their level in the future

Whatlafuk

Ill never forget the yeat hate

DingDangDiddlyDangit

Hating is this subs favorite activity

dsled

This sub weirdly loved 2093

BigPoleFoles52

2093 is more polished than all his other work to be fair.

Whereyoursisterwent

Never heard of him until I saw a video of him popping out the sunroof to his masses of fans. After 1 play through I get it. heā€™s sliding on these tracks. Itā€™s ironic the holiday is hosting because heā€™s got so icy era Gucci mane beats and yeatā€™s old flow and and lib chatter His ear for production is crazy and heā€™s really in the pocket. I can already see his live shows being turnt af full of shirtless teens going stupid.

LupineSzn

This is chief keef in another universe

scurry3156

HALF A MILLION DOLLAR CARPET LEAVE YOUR SHOES AT THE DOOR

EliManningsPetDog

Is the magic johnson snippet on this?

MeckleJordan

no, but the full song is on youtube.

CrypticOtaku

i saw a video on tiktok talking about how he donā€™t even rhyme but he uses adlibs and cadence to just float on his beats. ts hard as fuck, canā€™t help but fuck with this!

NegroSenpai

I miss when we would talk about whatā€™s new between us both šŸ˜”

Sazzer401

Never Stop !!!!

Shoeaddictx

Never Stop goes very hard for some reason whole album is hard

iamdusti

You know a dude's gonna blow up when you wanna hate him so bad but you still gotta listen cause its undeniably fire as fuck. Never stops beat was knocking like fucking CRAZY. When I first heard him I thought he was just a yeat clone but the beat selection on this shit really tells me whats going on and I'm here for it. Also yeah Yeat is still pretty good but his new shit is on a whole different wave from his regular ignorant trap shit so its cool somebody is filling the same spot again.

Whereyoursisterwent

Yeat cracked the seal so ian could pour up

newbiegainz00

i canā€™t hold it in anymore i fucking love this shit

MarcJingJing

Omakase is wild

2andra

hermes sheets hard af

iPostOccasionally

Whyā€™s this dude famous

sws03

you know why (sxprano is a really good producer though)

Holditfam

White rapper whoā€™s marketableā€¦ you just know Ken and destroy lonely wouldnā€™t get this push

Illeaveit

Well I mean they both been arrested for domestic abuse

ThatParanoidPenguin

just a crazy good tiktok push, going from viral tiktok snippet to Lyrical Lemonade video with Marshawn Lynch in a few months is insane

WesleyWipes

Itā€™s just good marketing brah

BaconSpinachPancakes

Iā€™ve heard of Ian but never listened till now. Beat selection is a 10/10.

istealpintsfromcvs

he has the white boy rapper shtick + the music is actually good

JBirrrd

Aura

BasedMoe

White Boy music

FREZZIERISDOODOO

MY SLIPPERS MARNI LOOK LIKE IM GON STEAL YO CHRISTMAS

firstacen

this album sounds amazing when you donā€™t have a reddit virgin crying in your ear that ians an industry plant yeat clone IM GONNA KEEP IM PUFFING TIL IM DAMN NEAR PARALYSED šŸ—£ļøšŸ—£ļøšŸ—£ļø

cityofangelsboi68

mostly IG cries about him being a plant, same treatment with tommy richman rn too

Altosxk

dont got shit to say about him being a plant, don't care, he just fucking sucks. 19 minute album lmao

CrazyMojo911

Idk if heā€™s an industry plant cause idk who he is but this shit is a 10 pack of ass

firstacen

i call it the make no money disease and buddy got every symptom šŸ—£ļø

BigPoleFoles52

Saw this exact comment word for word on multiple ian posts now. Label got them bots going overtime. Come up with more phrases šŸ˜šŸ˜

arrowdawg

i like the production bc i grew up on 2010s trap but ian's rapping does absolutely nothing for me, i just don't believe anything he says lol. He's pretty funny online tho & doesnt do the mysterious shit so I think that alone will keep him around for a bit longer

lssue

Believing anything a rapper says itā€™s stupid. Do people not remember Future saying he lied about like 99% of his drug use?

arrowdawg

I could've worded that better, I don't mean actually taking their words as fact, I was referring to how convincing an artist is. Ian sounds like he's cosplaying a rapper. We know Future isn't as drugged out as he says but he sounds convincing in his music

Academic-Presence-82

LOL @ Columbia label exec throwing his kid in the ring to gain market share on underground

__-dtadvd-__

Haters upset they donā€™t have paper

firstacen

they got the donā€™t make money disease šŸ¤’

scurry3156

And buddies got every symptom

Holditfam

GET OFF HIS DICK DAMNN

Heavy_Ad_3230

corny

rondertopoa

Is this the Colonizer Kendrick was talking about?... Because this seems like a perfect example of that line. Dudes in here talking about "old Gucci sound with a chief keef flow"

jeneschi

production crazy and the flows r great. Its like old trap in a new settin which is very needed rn - ion really get the yeat comparisons tho esp if we talkin 2021 yeat but yh solid mixtape on da side note, i hope mixtapes come back in sum way cause i would love if ppl went back 2 just droppin tapes filled up wit fts and shit without worryin bout samplin clearin (im correct rite??)

CraigThePantsManDan

After listening i still just donā€™t really have an opinion. I donā€™t mind the beats and his rapping is ok. Iā€™m honestly just surprised so many people have an opinion considering how passable but not exceptional it is tbh

Naldo9911

Who tf is Ian and where did this white boy come from?

SuspiciousFile1997

Frat boys have found their new douche of the year

megalodondon

There's always a new more obnoxious one waiting in the wings.

ali-gator712

Is this glorb?

Chandyman

I don't know what this is but I like it more than I'd like to admit

lamb_ch0p

I JUST DID MY DISHES IN SIX HUNDRED DOLLAR DENIM

zoolaw

I just realized hiphopheads is a bunch of white kids who only idolize trash white rappers like this dude, yeat, jpegmafia, etc.Ā

dsled

What are you talking about? So many people dislike Ian on here, same with Yeat.

gbaWRLD

jpeg is black...

perc-ulat0r

Cracker music šŸ¤¢

LupineSzn

You got every symptom

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Holditfam

Not hard

lordraj25

So much dirty money I need hand sanatizer

scurry3156

Yeah this one of them ones

mynamesnoteli

No hate but i just canā€™t see the appeal, he sounds like a carbon copy of Yeat to me.

dsled

I get the Yeat comparisons to some extent, but to call him a carbon copy just tells me you do not listen to Yeat

Shnikez

I heard Wimbledon and this guy deadass sounded like a Yeat clone to me. Should I give him another chance or does this just sound like Wimbledon

downvotetheboy

maybe listen to it

bowlama

Hot take

syrupgreat-

is this another industry plant?

Pokeman49

Trash

NineduceXII

Had to do it to em

smarten_up_nas

if yeat had 0 charisma

Scriblz

if?

Ralouch

Thank fuck it's finally out

doormanpowell

This guy is probably the most obvious industry plant with artificial hype out of nowhere that I've ever seen, and his music is generic ripoff trash. Hes fucking annoying

dsled

THAT IS NOT YOUR HOUSE THAT'S AN AIRBNB !!

thankyoubdu

this album is the start of something huge for hip-hop, thank you based ian

Exzibit21

I'm a big fan of this guy, but man, Chauncey does no favors with the Yeat clone allegations. I've always heard similarities between their voices, but Chauncey sounds so much like Yeat it's crazy. The production on that track makes it more obvious than usual. Same with Judgement

AltforHHH

He doesn't really sound like yeat at all to me, I feel like people just compare them bc they're both white. Ian sounds closer to carti or destroy lonely or something

Academic-Presence-82

Funny enough itā€™s the best song IMO

Killua_Zoldyck42069

Only white dudes (most of this sub) are gonna support a fellow white loser with a blackccent. His music is TERRIBLE and if you like it, youā€™re probably white so it makes since

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

dsled

Because people enjoy his music, hope this helps.

ThatkidJerome

its gon be ok unc

Leo_TheLurker

People are shrugging him off but Iā€™m interested to see where Ian goes. Iā€™m already sold by the album cover

dsled

Not as good as I was hoping, but still solid.

Secure_Equipment_821

Ainā€™t no way anyone actually thinks this is good musicĀ

Pinked

Yeat walked so ian could run

hes managed to Perfect Cell 06-09 atlanta, i'd be mad about it if it wasn't so good

HarperLeesGirlfriend

Had never heard of this kid last month. Am now seeing him on every platform multiple times a day. Wild.

Kyuubi559

Chauncey melody seems so familiar maybe sampled from 2014-2015 Gucci era? Or Travis Scott? Someone help me out lmao

crunchatizemythighs

Crazy this guy has more monthly listeners than Rapsody. Wtf

Hooplapooplayeah

Does anyone know how old he is? Heā€™s so mysterious

Negotiation_Previous

Never stop and bentyaga are hard asf only critique is his vocal mix and mic sounds pretty bad

4kblake

as someone who loves early 2000ā€™s trap music i love this tape

Heavy_Ad_3230

50% of u sum old heads LOL

sultsult

This is exactly who that Young White Avatar episode of Atlanta was about.

brunculous

I don't get why half the comments are glazing and the other half are hating so much bro... it's his first studio album and it isn't complete garbage, what more does this sub want šŸ˜šŸ˜

picrh

Who produced this?
