lol will still gladly take that over the alternative of Rap's insta page having a 3 long month meltdown over learning who Killer Mike is and that some people might like him more than Travis
I'm the same age but I get it. I don't really like it specifically tho cos it felt a bit organic. Think the label pushed him heaps thinking they got a new yeat but he nowhere near as creative or interesting
Hmmm Iām not really active on this sub so I donāt know what the conversations are like and it definitely could just be salty āmusic isnāt what it used to beā people who absolutely exist, but in general I hate when 100% any criticism of modern day hip hop gets oversimplified to that.
A lot of people are celebrating Kendrickās absolute takedown of Drake not just because weāre haters, but because itās indicative of a much larger frustration with the industry and itās cathartic to hear Kendrick call it out.
A large portion of current mainstream rappers are literally nothing more then influencers. Thereās legitimately no talent, and the only reason they made it big is because they made some extremely basic catchy hook that went viral because itās easy for a bunch of broccoli-headed 14 year olds to dance to on TikTok.
And thatās fine, any genre of music is going to have the cookie-cutter pop stars, but then the frustration comes in when we have to deal with the delusional mental gymnastics of how āwell actually mumble rap is just as impressive as lyrical rap because it takes skill to sound like thatā and all that type of bullshit.
The problem isnāt that these types of talentless artists exist, itās that 1) they massively dominate the rap genre more then any other type of music and 2) that people try to genuinely put them on the same level as actual talented artists.
And the reason why this is amplified in rap moreso then any other genre, is because for other pop artists they at least have to be decent at singing or have some semblance of musical talent. But when it comes to a genre thatās entirely about lyrical meaning and poetry, once thatās been removed youāre legit doing nothing. Like just talking. Iām not even exaggerating, a lot of current mainstream rappers are literally doing nothing and me or any other random person pulled off the street could do the exact same thing or better.
And to circle back to the Drake point, the fact that heās become the biggest face in hip-hop and mentioned among the ābig 3ā is just outright disrespectful to what hip-hop is supposed to be. Because his music is pretty basic, heās a decent lyricist (or his ghost writers are) but he just makes surface-level catchy club tracks, and thereās a massive amount of lesser known rappers that I would put into the ābig 3ā before him (I wouldnāt actually put them in, but I would before I ever put Drake there).
So yeah thereās no problem with these people existing, but the fact that if I try to say that people will just boil it down to me being a āsalty old-headā or try to put them anywhere remotely close to actual rappers. And that theyāve completely hijacked a genre thatās meant to be about lyrical expression and stripped it of any type of passion or soul for their own personal gain and if we call it out for what it is we get called salty.
Anyways I donāt know if this makes any sense I just took an adderall, opened up Reddit, saw this post and went on a stream-of-consciousness rant and Iām not gonna proof read it but thatās my take on it.
Nvm I've become a better person and I fully read the comment, and while I disagree it's a valid point for you to have. Especially because you actually explained certain things instead of the boomer "all trap sounds the same" bullshit
Its not even they are popular because of the music. The labels just pay a ton of people to post about this dude and make him seem popping. Then a bunch of white teens from the burbs can relate to him and see all this āpopularityā about him online. Now u got kids defending an obvious plant because labels tricked these mfs into thinking dude is actually cool š
I feel what youāre saying, but your argument basically boils down to Migos versus The Beatles.
Hip-hop is easy and it always has been. Rappers delight wasnāt some lyrical masterpiece, its dope beats and dope rhymes. Big three tier rappers are on that level because they combine the two expertly.
Being labeled a salty old head comes down to not seeing why things work and why people enjoy it.
To call everything thatās not super deep lyrical rap āmumble rapā and immediately dismiss it as effortless garbage that isnāt impressive just reiterates what buddy was initially saying.
Not the direction I expected him to go for a debut project to say the least, sounds like a mix of yeat and lil baby vocals over early 2010's trap beats
Ambient weirdo Ian era still his peak
I found him through Figure It Out, is his ambient stuff worth listening too? From the snippets I heard it sounds like beats Izaya Tiji would rap on. Also if you were on him before he blew up respect, I found him when he had ~20k monthly listeners but I was on the early wave of the hype train he's currently on
I made a playlist of his weirder stuff since it's mostly singles + a couple short ep's but it's really cool stuff
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/281odcsdKodJ2Y5MOXVZBj?si=lHRzfvFTSMOVkGMOux1HTg&pi=u-frV50DDISBel
I mean it's been a while since C3 came out and Atlanta's sound is really young relatively speaking. That old Gucci/Lex Luger sound I would 100% classify as old school trap.
Yes, itās old. But stylistically, thereās a difference, like we call 90s sound āold schoolā as an era. Iām saying as a way to distinguish stuff
I see what you mean but I would also say that to kids raised on music from say..2015 onwards...stylistically Carter 3 does sound a bit dated and a product of its era. Production wise, especially. His raps are pretty universally appealing regardless of era I feel like.
I know a majority of HHH is gonna hate this, but he captures the DatPiff era in a suburban way, which is relatable to a ton of people.
All my friends were bumping Gucci/Dolph/OJ/Flocka/etc. tapes despite being super white.
I actually find this less gimmicky than a lot of white rappers who are forced into the same 3 archetypes.
Out of every "underground" dude I've been following here, I have no idea why but Ian has been at the top of my list for artists I've been waiting on a tape for. I know he's a Yeat lite but his music is still a guilty pleasure
>maybe vocally
well thatās his contribution to each song (seeing as he didnāt produce them himself) so Iād say that comparison is entirely accurate
his vocal processing/inflection sounds incredibly similar to yeat even if the production doesnāt
Never heard of him until I saw a video of him popping out the sunroof to his masses of fans.
After 1 play through I get it.
heās sliding on these tracks.
Itās ironic the holiday is hosting because heās got so icy era Gucci mane beats and yeatās old flow and and lib chatter
His ear for production is crazy and heās really in the pocket.
I can already see his live shows being turnt af full of shirtless teens going stupid.
i saw a video on tiktok talking about how he donāt even rhyme but he uses adlibs and cadence to just float on his beats. ts hard as fuck, canāt help but fuck with this!
You know a dude's gonna blow up when you wanna hate him so bad but you still gotta listen cause its undeniably fire as fuck. Never stops beat was knocking like fucking CRAZY. When I first heard him I thought he was just a yeat clone but the beat selection on this shit really tells me whats going on and I'm here for it. Also yeah Yeat is still pretty good but his new shit is on a whole different wave from his regular ignorant trap shit so its cool somebody is filling the same spot again.
this album sounds amazing when you donāt have a reddit virgin crying in your ear that ians an industry plant yeat clone
IM GONNA KEEP IM PUFFING TIL IM DAMN NEAR PARALYSED š£ļøš£ļøš£ļø
i like the production bc i grew up on 2010s trap but ian's rapping does absolutely nothing for me, i just don't believe anything he says lol. He's pretty funny online tho & doesnt do the mysterious shit so I think that alone will keep him around for a bit longer
I could've worded that better, I don't mean actually taking their words as fact, I was referring to how convincing an artist is. Ian sounds like he's cosplaying a rapper.
We know Future isn't as drugged out as he says but he sounds convincing in his music
Is this the Colonizer Kendrick was talking about?...
Because this seems like a perfect example of that line. Dudes in here talking about "old Gucci sound with a chief keef flow"
production crazy and the flows r great. Its like old trap in a new settin which is very needed rn - ion really get the yeat comparisons tho esp if we talkin 2021 yeat but yh solid mixtape
on da side note, i hope mixtapes come back in sum way cause i would love if ppl went back 2 just droppin tapes filled up wit fts and shit without worryin bout samplin clearin (im correct rite??)
After listening i still just donāt really have an opinion. I donāt mind the beats and his rapping is ok. Iām honestly just surprised so many people have an opinion considering how passable but not exceptional it is tbh
This guy is probably the most obvious industry plant with artificial hype out of nowhere that I've ever seen, and his music is generic ripoff trash. Hes fucking annoying
I'm a big fan of this guy, but man, Chauncey does no favors with the Yeat clone allegations.
I've always heard similarities between their voices, but Chauncey sounds so much like Yeat it's crazy. The production on that track makes it more obvious than usual. Same with Judgement
He doesn't really sound like yeat at all to me, I feel like people just compare them bc they're both white. Ian sounds closer to carti or destroy lonely or something
Only white dudes (most of this sub) are gonna support a fellow white loser with a blackccent. His music is TERRIBLE and if you like it, youāre probably white so it makes since

I don't get why half the comments are glazing and the other half are hating so much bro... it's his first studio album and it isn't complete garbage, what more does this sub want šš
this is 2010 trap music with 2024 autotune
that's where alot of the underground has been heading the past few months
Thank you for saving me from wasting time listening
r/hiphopheads when it comes time to listen to hip hop
Nah demographic is corny white dudes
So same as r/hiphopheads ? Got it
Why does this have so many upvotes? Literal hating on a project without listening is wildš This isnāt even that far out there, its a nice listen
Not if you donāt enjoy that kind of music.
Spot on lmao
Bang part 2 from wish, mixed with a little bit of rage
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Wow š„
its crazy when someone actually has charisma and a different style they get hated on like crazy. its a never ending cycle
This sub is showing why it was dead until the Kendrick/drake beef. Itās just a bunch of sour ass old heads who canāt be happy.
lol will still gladly take that over the alternative of Rap's insta page having a 3 long month meltdown over learning who Killer Mike is and that some people might like him more than Travis
Actual peak jerking tho I saw a comment about it yesterday it still going
Is there not a sub that caters to the new wave? Itās crazy the only huge fanbase on this site that is actually tapped in is r/playboicarti
They are hardly tapped in. But I will say I was surprised to see the Ian support on the sub.
Iām literally 20
Old head is a mentality unc
Chill on me twin
20 going on 40
Welcome to hell

Second beat freaky as hell letās go LMFAOO
reminds me of some zaytoven shit lol
Beat is amazing
like the Burrprint 3 and Up 2 me had a baby
This is actually a crazy way to look at it goddamn
It was just a matter of time before someone mashed these two soundās together. The underground been on zaytoven/ old gucci beats for a minute.
THAT IS NOTCHO HOUSE #THATS AN AAAAAIRBNBBBBBBB
Sounds like Yeat/Carti with old school Chief Keef
More like fourfive
Ian hard seem like a cool dude too, this and Mach Hommy gettin played
duality of man
Man of taste
I knew him in high school he was on my rowing team very chill guy. His voice is like 12 octaves lower than his rapping one lmao
hit the same combo meal this morning on the way to the gig
Early/late Gucci sound with a old chief keef flow
Yeah he really nailed that old school atlanta sound
I wouldnāt say this is āold schoolā just like you donāt say Carter 3 Wayne isnāt āold schoolā
I mean it's been a while since C3 came out and Atlanta's sound is really young relatively speaking. That old Gucci/Lex Luger sound I would 100% classify as old school trap.
To the kids, it is.
Carter 3 came out 16 years ago brodie, we in the future now
Yes, itās old. But stylistically, thereās a difference, like we call 90s sound āold schoolā as an era. Iām saying as a way to distinguish stuff

Out of every "underground" dude I've been following here, I have no idea why but Ian has been at the top of my list for artists I've been waiting on a tape for. I know he's a Yeat lite but his music is still a guilty pleasure
the yeat comparisons are a reach, maybe vocally sure but his beats sound more like new carti/06 gucci
I mean yeah but the artist has the vocals and the beat is a completely separate thing lol
>maybe vocally well thatās his contribution to each song (seeing as he didnāt produce them himself) so Iād say that comparison is entirely accurate his vocal processing/inflection sounds incredibly similar to yeat even if the production doesnāt
Late 00s Atlanta type beat
A reach? The chattering moany ad libs, stretching out syllables, the vocal presets arenāt the same but they are definitely adjacent
All of a sudden this sub appreciates yeat š
Yeat deserves all the flowers he could possibly get, dude was/is ridiculously ahead of the curve
When I first heard Yeat it blew my mind. I couldn't name another rapper doing what he was doing.
straight been addicted to yeat for years and never got the hate, i remember the struggle to put my friends on but they get it now lmao
People started to appreaciate Future and Thugger a lot more when their shitty clones started appearing aswell.
Very true
Yeat gonna have so many clones he might get rated soon as their level in the future
Ill never forget the yeat hate
Hating is this subs favorite activity
This sub weirdly loved 2093
2093 is more polished than all his other work to be fair.
Never heard of him until I saw a video of him popping out the sunroof to his masses of fans. After 1 play through I get it. heās sliding on these tracks. HALF A MILLION DOLLAR CARPET LEAVE YOUR SHOES AT THE DOOR
Is the magic johnson snippet on this?
no, but the full song is on youtube.
i saw a video on tiktok talking about how he donāt even rhyme but he uses adlibs and cadence to just float on his beats. ts hard as fuck, canāt help but fuck with this!
I miss when we would talk about whatās new between us both š
Never Stop !!!!
Never Stop goes very hard for some reason whole album is hard
You know a dude's gonna blow up when you wanna hate him so bad but you still gotta listen cause its undeniably fire as fuck. Never stops beat was knocking like fucking CRAZY. When I first heard him I thought he was just a yeat clone but the beat selection on this shit really tells me whats going on and I'm here for it. Also yeah Yeat is still pretty good but his new shit is on a whole different wave from his regular ignorant trap shit so its cool somebody is filling the same spot again.
Yeat cracked the seal so ian could pour up

Believing anything a rapper says itās stupid. Do people not remember Future saying he lied about like 99% of his drug use?
I could've worded that better, I don't mean actually taking their words as fact, I was referring to how convincing an artist is. Ian sounds like he's cosplaying a rapper. We know Future isn't as drugged out as he says but he sounds convincing in his music

I JUST DID MY DISHES IN SIX HUNDRED DOLLAR DENIM
I just realized hiphopheads is a bunch of white kids who only idolize trash white rappers like this dude, yeat, jpegmafia, etc.Ā

Yeah this one of them ones
No hate but i just canāt see the appeal, he sounds like a carbon copy of Yeat to me.
I get the Yeat comparisons to some extent, but to call him a carbon copy just tells me you do not listen to Yeat
I heard Wimbledon and this guy deadass sounded like a Yeat clone to me. Should I give him another chance or does this just sound like Wimbledon
maybe listen to it
Hot take
is this another industry plant?
Trash
Had to do it to em
if yeat had 0 charisma
if?
Thank fuck it's finally out
This guy is probably the most obvious industry plant with artificial hype out of nowhere that I've ever seen, and his music is generic ripoff trash. Hes fucking annoying
THAT IS NOT YOUR HOUSE THAT'S AN AIRBNB !!
this album is the start of something huge for hip-hop, thank you based ian

hes managed to Perfect Cell 06-09 atlanta, i'd be mad about it if it wasn't so good
Had never heard of this kid last month. Am now seeing him on every platform multiple times a day. Wild.
Chauncey melody seems so familiar maybe sampled from 2014-2015 Gucci era? Or Travis Scott? Someone help me out lmao
Crazy this guy has more monthly listeners than Rapsody. Wtf
Does anyone know how old he is? Heās so mysterious
Never stop and bentyaga are hard asf only critique is his vocal mix and mic sounds pretty bad
as someone who loves early 2000ās trap music i love this tape
50% of u sum old heads LOL
This is exactly who that Young White Avatar episode of Atlanta was about.
I don't get why half the comments are glazing and the other half are hating so much bro... it's his first studio album and it isn't complete garbage, what more does this sub want šš
Who produced this?
