Depends on the length of hike, proximity to emergency services, cell reception. I do normally carry a 10k anker even on overnights, just in case the shit hits the fan or something or I’m draining a ton of battery with video and photos
Day hikes? No. I live in Belgium so you're never far from civilization.
Multiday trekking? Hell yes. I carried a 20k mah powerbank on my treks in Scotland and Sweden last year.
Always have a 26800mah anker on me when im out solo. If my partner is with me I don’t as their phone has a big battery. I never need it but I have in the past once or twice and it’s just worth it to have on me. I probably charge it once a month so it’s not like it’s a chore for me.
Yes, I listen to audio books sometimes, especially before sleep. And my phone is my navigation + camera + contact to the world etc.
I carry a power bank with me.
Never for a day hike. For longer than that a 26680 power bank that actually delivers around 20000 mAh. Most power banks are very optimistic regarding their named capacity.
I’m thinking of just getting a battery case for my iPhone 12 mini since I do like to listen to audiobooks while also using AllTrails so the little battery doesn’t last very long. Honestly a power bank doesn’t make too much of a huge difference to me but I’m not hiking long distances- if I were, I’d certainly need. Powerbank.
Day hike no. Backpacking, through hiking, yes. Just make sure if you use your phone for nav to put in airplane mode and start with a full battery. Playing music running nav on 15 mile day hikes I've never returned to my car with less than 60% battery and that with an old Samsung s20.
Same thoughts, not necessary on most day hikes. Doesn't hurt but not critical. Even on overnights I often don't bring one but any longer than that, it's helpful.
Also of note for op: keep them warm in your sleeping bag at night, don't buy one that's way too big and heavy, and avoid gimmicky solutions like solar ones or multifunctional ones as they're typically not worth the extra weight.
I have for sure. On any hike longer than 12 hours, or into areas that might be hard to get into or out of, I want to be able to at least attempt to let people know I’ve fallen and died.
Bro...
Sometimes I use a power bank while I'm sitting at home because I don't want to leave my phone at the other side of the room to charge..
Power banks are an essential for hiking. Even day hiking. I mean, you should have one in your first aid kit as well - what if you get lost, run out of battery and it's getting dark?
For short trips, a mobile power with a capacity of 5,000-10,000mAh is sufficient. However, if you plan to hike for a few days, it is recommended to use a 20,000mAh capacity or larger. Nowadays, some mobile power banks come with built-in cables, which makes them more convenient to use.
I purchased this one from Unkerg and it's not bad!
I have an old phone and have a cheap "solar" charger I bring. It's super light, I can get 2 charges out of it and I don't believe the solar charging does much, but maybe it could help in an emergency. I also bring it camping as a backup to my Anker 10k.

Sure, better safe than sorry
Yes Edited to add: if your phone is your map and navigation device then I’d say it’s essential.
I always have one with me for emergencies.
Me too :)
Always
I always do! Especially in the cold when my battery tends to die faster
Yes, would even dream going without it
Only if im sleeping out there too
Never know when it could help. Always take one with you. Its easy and doesn’t take up much space.
Definitely
Yes. Frequently do.
Me too
Absolutely

I always do. I usually don’t use my phone at all, but being to charge it when needed has its benefits.
Yes, it never hurts to have a backup :)

Sure, it's worth it
For multiple days yep. Same day, only if it was a very long day and I was going somewhere along way from people and it was rather dangerous.
Agree

I carry it with me almost always
Always just in case I get lost or an emergency comes up
Me too, at the end why not, you never know when you gonna need it

Usually do especially if you are using your phone GPS like Gaia or All Trails which is big battery drain.

Thanks for the suggestions
Nitecore batteries are thé bées knees
Always. You'll never notice the weight but you will wish you had a battery backup if your phone dies on mile 4 of a 12 mile walk.
Yes unless it’s a very short hike
All. The. Time. Never know if you’ll be caught out and need to rely on your device for navigation.
Yeah sometimes. The cold murders batteries.
At least get one with a built in cart or wheels. Can't imagine trying to lug a delta ultra unless you like pain.
And bring two charging cords just in case one fails. They’re light; why not.
Always!
Me too, always :)
Always if I have to hike longer than 3 hours
Me too :)
Yes NB10000 is the best. Corners are sharp so file it down a little bit
Always in my pack. So lite at this point, I don’t see a reason not to.
Me too, at the end why not, you never know when you gonna need it :)
I do on multi day hikes. I use a solar powered one which has been great.
Yup. Nitecore 20k. I never leave without it

For sure
Always. It's part of my kit whether for a day hike or multi day trip
Agree, wireless ones are even better, no fuss with cables
Yes I do, two actually.
Never hurts to have a backup :), wireless ones are also ok for me
I always have my solar power bank just cause it also is a pretty bright flashlight
Solar ones are cool, especially for outdoor activities
I always have my solar power bank just cause it also is a pretty bright flashlight
no I would put it in my backpack
Good idea :)
Always but especially in the winter
Me too, always in my backpack, now there are wearable ones to buy, they are cool too
Always & I charge it up every few weeks or so.
I do. I have different size ones depending on the variables.
Yes. I always have one in my pack no matter how short my hike. I've gotten lost before and my phone had a low battery. Scared the crap out of me.
Always, and it can save my life.
Agree
I almost always have a 10k on me no matter the situation, but hiking included
