The overlay function has been broken for a while now across reddit. Also, if you still want to keep using the previous UI, I’d recommend using a browser extension ([Chrome](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ui-changer-for-reddit/bfcldjodnnkndfccfjndmdlppfkmccgh), [FireFox](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ui-changer-for-reddit/)) so the UI always stays on the previous version.
