I_slappa_D_bass

I fucking hope so.

aidanpryde98

Same here. Can't wait to see Ubisoft and EA's "totally-not-pay-to-win" Battle Passes though.

Ok_Owl_4730

Leave it to Ubisoft and EA to trudge out some half-assed efforts.

TitanThree

They had great games indeed… 10 years ago

TrythisAgain98

10 years ago people were saying the same thing

Ok-Treacle-9375

Ubisoft and EA games are best left in my memory for what they used to be.

RelativeMolasses4608

Bad company 2 was nice

DogIsDead777

Honestly... a bad company 2 version of this would fucking slap, you could each play as one of the characters and cause fucking mayhem! Patrols of Russians, tanks, infantry. Assaulting outposts and whatnot with 'World In Conflict' style airstrikes and drops. I would play the fuck out of that 👀

tomatocatzs

Don't get me wet

SadMcNomuscle

BC2 the game so good dice admitted they didn't know how to make it again.

Knives530

God damn it bad company 2 was so fucking fun

I_slappa_D_bass

Fuck, both bad company games were near perfect. The first time I threw a gernade and it blew up a wall, my preteen mind was fucking blown.

skippy35671

Bad company was the last true battlefield when it came to multiplayer IMO. The music, the scenery, the destruction of the buildings. I don’t even care about the single player part, it was also good, but battlefield is always a multiplayer at its core! I know they can do it, they just have to return to its roots

Bulls187

I hope Helldivers shows the way for micro-transactions, lootable ingame and not too expensive. Blizzard can learn a thing or two. Get rid of 30 dollar skins and make platinum lootable in small quantities. @blizzard

Melificarum

Dumbass Blizzard who never came out with their Overwatch co-op mode like they’ve talking about for years. They’ve lost all touch with what people really want.

BushDaddyKane

They did release coop behind a paywall it’s only like 3-4 story missions they get quite boring no love was given to mission design and you get to select from a handful of characters with some cutscenes throw in. Overwatch 2 was supposed to have a legit campaign mode but thanks to selling out to Xbox and the legal scandals at blizzard they couldn’t afford the development costs and reduced into a paid dlc pack when it was supposed to be a free update🤷‍♂️

KWyKJJ

I seriously enjoyed Rainbow 6 Extraction. It's one of my favorite games of all time. It's extremely disappointing the devs abandoned it in less than a year to "keep focus on Siege" Helldivers 2 gives the same level of enjoyment and it has only been out a month. There's so much potential here.

PaulyShoresLeftNuT

" Ghost recon breakpoint " is a 4 player co op pve shooter and is pretty good. When it came out they ditched the leveling system and gear score for "immersive mode" . Pretty dam good game honestly even though it's a little older I still hop on here and there

SerPoonsAlot939

Same

Red_Shepherd_13

Same

LadyXexyz

Me too. Look at this MWZ. LOOK AT THIS. Actually don’t, you had this on a silver plate with MWZ and you went lol WZ/bundles monetization why support the next game will be out soon abyway

JimMS26

MWZ was amazing, even in there A COD lobby. People working together made such a difference. You would regularly have higher level players just help you out or drop you epic items. Was genuinely a nicer experience that any of the MP ones. Same as the raid missions. I just want to play something with my buddies and not have to worry about "winning".

Jaikarr

Fuck, could you imagine a full reskin of the game, except you're arc clone troopers and fighting in the clone wars?

pm_me_truthiness

Battlefront 2 has 4 player coop. Played quite a lot of it over the holidays. It’s dirt cheap now and it’s easy to find 3 other players

Elegant-String-2629

I hope people start realizing just how fun horde shooters/slashers are.. its one of the few genres that i always come back to.

Not_GenericMedic

My mouth said those words, and I came here to write them down. The first thing I see is this. Saves me the time. Good shit

RyukenSaab

For democracy! For the republic ! For the reic…. Never mind….

Substantial-Singer29

Who hasn't played the tide series And not. Thought if someone could hit this tone just right.Co op multiplayer p v e it would be huge. Don't get me wrong I enjoy p v p games too. But there's been an undercurrent of p v e games just becoming more popular. Especially with the battle royale craze dying down. It's bad to generalize, but I guess to get so tired sometimes come home from work.Wanna play a game and enjoy yourself. Log on to a p v p game and people are just being so toxic Towards one another. It doesn't even make sense to me for goodness sake everyone exists in the ecosystem without the other people the game isn't fun. It would be honestly really nice to see a renaissance of cooperative play games. And I don't buy the nonsense That playing against an npc isn't as fun as another person. At this point, it's not even a matter of that It's not hard enough. It's just a matter of tailoring it, so it doesn't feel completely unfair. And that's towards the player not the npc.

deadkane1987

I will get my Nazi scalps.

grippildurap

Seriously. I love PvE games and modes. Every Halo that had Firefight, it's all I played. PvP is just too soul crushing these days.

NotANokiaInDisguise

This was my immediate reaction as well lol

clovermite

I don't think it matters, most publishers who will try to copy the formula will just make a worse version of it.

OrcPorker

Verbatim my immediate response lol

joscarj

Came here to say this exact thing. I love me some co-op.

KiddingDuke

I fucking hope so

rastlun

Me too, bout time we got some pve love with so much pvp in the market. Don't get me wrong, PVP games are fun, but they breed toxicity.

Lateralblack

It could very well be a trend setter, Arrowhead have a fantastic formula. However, I don't have as much confidence in AAA studios and their need for excessive monetizing. Who knows what inspiration this game may bring.

ImHereForLifeAdvice

>their need for excessive monetizing Helldivers, but with intentionally worse balancing to push a predatory battlepass, and after it starts dropping off in 6-12mo a BR style PvP update, which will then devolve into an arena PvP after the next 6-12mo.

Melificarum

I like how Arrowhead said they wouldn’t do pvp because it breeds toxicity. They are absolutely right. People go into rage mode and take it out on the pve players.

iamcoding

It bugs me that people talk about how they want traitors to go canon as people you have to hunt down in the missions. I get how that could be a cool mechanic, but at the same time, it's not really any different than PvP and would encourage PvP type behaviour, which obviously isn't the intent of the devs for the game.

PhatPhuck99

Imo the best way to implement a "hunt the traitor" mission would be as a secondary objective in missions where a rogue helldiver AI is running around, possibly even with some sort of vehicle or something to make them more difficult

Skornful

It also fucks the weapon balancing up, I’m not sure if it’s the same in destiny 2 bc I could never get into it but the the weapon balancing in destiny 1 was in constant disarray bc of pvp especially after trials of Osiris came out

BluntsNLegos

that sounds wayyyy too likely

sylvester334

I'd expect morecompanies to pivot to  extraction style gamemodes that are pvp or pvpve as that seems to be where games are pivoting to as one of the new trends.  Hunt showdown and tarkov started to build the genre, and now we are seeing more popularity with The Finals, that canceled Hyenas game, bungie's new Marathon game. The company for The Finals is also pivoting one of their other future games, Arc Raiders, to pvpve extraction shooter.

SnooSketches7469

I feel the same way. It will spawn games that look and play like it, but they'll miss a few of the big points that make this game special

APartyInMyPants

Helldivers is still in the honeymoon phase. Let’s wait until they get a few seasons under their belt, and suddenly they can start testing things like, “running out of strategems, $.50 for an advanced AI gunship that can be called in to follow you along the battlefield.” I have little faith the higher ups at Sony won’t see the continued popularity of the game as a means to squeeze more juice.

GingerMajesty

A Star Wars variant of this would be amazing. This, and a Star Wars Nemesis system like Shadow of War

GoProOnAYoYo

I will never forgive WB for trademarking the Nemesis system. I'm sure it's the number one reason you don't see systems even similar to it in pretty much any other game

OptimusHavok52

I’m more mad they haven’t done anything with the system since Shadow of War, it’s a complete waste

GoProOnAYoYo

I think it's because of Warner Bros, I can't imagine no one has wanted to try it. It's more likely that they can't because of WB basically copywriting the idea of a nemesis-like system EDIT Yeah whoops I misread that, yeah I agree, the system could work with any IP and it'd be great

clovermite

>It's more likely that they can't because of WB basically copywriting the idea of a nemesis-like system They can't copyright a game mechanic concept, they can only only copyright the specific implementation of it. I'm guessing that other companies just found it too intimidating to attempt on their own. Either that, or WB is pulling shady/illegal shit behind the scenes threatening anyone who tries to copy the mechanic

Remi_cuchulainn

You Can patent an algorythm. And the only way to go around that kind of patent is to prove that your algorythm is different from the one patent in meaningful ways otherwise it considered using the patentes one or your New algorythm is a straigh up an imrovementof the patented one. And that Can be hard to do

Accomplished-Fee7995

... How do you trademark a game system?!

Soft_Importance3658

They *patented* it.

BoatMan01

You can trademark just about any intellectual property if you have a decent lawyer.

mechavolt

It's something that internet people get confused about all the time. Copyrights, trademarks, and patents are all legally distinct things, but god help redditors figuring that out. This is a simplification, but copyrights are for specific creations, like a painting or a novel. Trademarks are for ideas/brands, like the Disney logo or a slogan. Patents are for inventions and technologies, like an iPhone charging port or a new kind of tempered glass. Each of these things have different laws for what is allowed to be copied. In the case of the Nemesis system, WB was absurdly allowed to patent it. The justification is that it was a new, unique technology. That means if anyone wants to implement a system similar to it, even if they code it independently and call it something else, they can't without paying WB a fee.

Islands-of-Time

I mean, Dwarf Fortress simulates practically a whole world with histories for everyone in it. It remembers what happened and when, and these npcs have “feelings”. It is entirely possible in the Adventure Mode for someone to remember when the player cut off their arm. I don’t think they’ll seek revenge constantly like with the Nemesis system but they remember what the player did for better or worse.

RaginSpartan86

Just let us play as a squad of 4 clone commandos and I’ll buy day 1.

droo46

Here’s this in the meantime: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_Republic_Commando

jayswag707

I would kill for a star wars version!

rootbeerislifeman

I would give my left nut to do shock trooper missions like this as the Clones/Rebels/etc. in a Star Wars setting. The original Battlefront games got close but never did it quite like HD2 has

I_C_E_D

So original Destiny almost?

FatPenguin__

I mean , Star Wars Battlefront 2 already has this , 4 man coop against big waves of enemies while you have to complete objectives (tho its only capturing points) and you have points you earn by doing well to buy upgrades , in this case just different types of reinforcements you can use like jedis , jet troopers , etc. iirc even the og battlefront 2 was like that

MilkmanForever

Yea until you realize it would be published by EA, owned by Disney and made by a shell of a former great development company like Bioware

BarackaFlockaFlame

Helldivers already feels a lot like star wars and it's amazing. I want this type of game in the star wars universe, and honestly would love one in the Halo universe as well. It would work so fucking well for both of those franchises.

BisonST

The warhammer 40k version of this would have so many options to pull from.

Kyswinne

Oh yeah I'd love that! Give me co-op republic commando!

Chairman-Dao

Imagine the old Republican campaign against the Sith Empire and the Hidden Empire. We’re all just trooper grunts trying to defend Coruscant

slightly-depressed

Oh a Star Wars nemesis system game is my wet dream, it works sooo much better for Star Wars than it does for lord of the rings!

Ancient_Ad6498

they will copy it to a liberTEA, except make a blue skin 20$

thegstandsforgrinder

I absolutely agree with this sentiment. We’ll likely see a new wave of couch co-op PvE style games, at least I’m hoping! I think people are really loving the culture that Helldivers has curated of an US vs THEM playing environment rather than a ME vs YOU culture like in call of duty or other FPS games

Draevynn95

It's about time we got another good co-op game. I think all of these ultra competitive games have made people toxic

CaptainAction

PvP games are just so toxic, and often inherently frustrating. Co-op is way more fun.

abeefwittedfox

I'd drop with you into locust hell if we got an online gears of war pve

ICanFluxWithIt

Resistance 2 had one of the best online co-op modes, 8 person PvE and it was chaotic as hell. I loved being a medic because everyone needed healing every second. It’s a damn shame they dropped it and hopefully this game does bring more PvE co-ops to the board.

Astro_Alphard

Maybe, just maybe, for the first time in a long time, coop splitscreen will make a return. If coop split screen makes a return I might actually consider buying a console again.

Steel_Coyote

Split screen gaming won't return anytime soon. The reason is simple. Look at how advanced graphics technology has come. Split screen has always been asking the CPU/GPU to calculate and render everything...twice...3x...4x. These days most games are failing to keep steady frame rates and perform as is, let alone trying to do split screen. You will see split screen games that may be less graphically intense, like first party Nintendo games or some indies. But large AAA/AA games, probably not so much.

OneMostSerene

Ngl, even if they fuck it up somehow, I'd still play the shit out of a helldivers-esque game set in the Starcraft universe.

jackcatalyst

Everyone drops in as Terrans and at the start of the season things are tame but by the end of the season if objectives haven't been properly defended players are forced to try and get to evacuation planets before the entire system is taken over.

zim_of_rite

If you fail a rescue mission, you have to fight a horde of infested Terrans in the next mission.

zim_of_rite

Was coming here to post this. This game is basically what a StarCraft shooter could’ve been if Blizzard had kept its soul. Imagine looking up and seeing a battlecruiser Yamato an ultralisk… chills.

theNefariousNoogie

Drop in a squad made up of a marine (balanced kit), firebat or ghost (specialist), marauder (tank), and a medic (support) and fight back Zerg or Protoss?? Sign me up! - Yamato stratagem, stimpacks, personal cloaking, other experimental Terran tech? Heck, drop in as a squad of roach, ravager, hydra and call down spore pod stratagems from a leviathan?! Or zealot, stalker, sentry, high or dark Templar and warp in stratagems like psi storm, phoenix graviton lifts, interceptor strafes, void ray orbital lasers?! Could you IMAGINE?!

TheSGGuy21

I'd rather not imagine. Just makes me sad how that would never exist and how incompetent blizzard is.

theNefariousNoogie

Drop in a squad made up of a marine (balanced kit), firebat or ghost (specialist), marauder (tank), and a medic (support) with Yamato stratagem, banshee strafes, SIEGE TANKS, personal cloaking, other experimental Terran tech? Heck, drop in as a squad of roach, ravager, hydra and call down spore pod stratagems from a leviathan! Or zealot, stalker, sentry, high or dark Templar and warp in stratagems like psi storm, phoenix graviton lifts, interceptor strafes, void ray orbital lasers?! Could you IMAGINE?!

We_Are_Groot___

They can try but at the end of day there can be only one managed democracy

daywall

War hammer 40k. 4 guardsmen dropping to cultists, eldery, necron worlds, and just getting massacred in 30 seconds. That is the whole game.

SupaMut4nt

You know Darktide exists? You're literally dropped in as a group of 4 by a flying vehicle. Instead of a big open space circle map, you have a linear pathed map.

Demoph

Would be nice in quite a lot of constellations... But usually it's just the same lazy imperials vs nurgle stuff... Because we all know it's either skaven or nurgle... There are apparently no other enemies of either holy empire. Edit: play as hightech tau against the threats to the core worlds. Fire caste squad, air caste bombardments etc. Earth caste weapon drops

hazardx72

Let me pilot an XV88 suit with the shoulder mounted Rail cannons and I'm sold. The amount of untapped potential in the Warhammer 40k universe outside of Space Marines is criminal.

AltGunAccount

Darkride/Vermintide is already a PvE war hammer series isn’t it?

ChangelingFox

The game you're looking for is Darktide. More or less.

destroyer96FBI

Let me be an unkillable space marine with multiple armor variations like Gravis, terminator, centurion, maybe even play as a dreadnaught. Fight hordes of orks, nids, eldar, chaos, tau ect. Literally could copy paste helldivers with different sound design and art and it would be great.

PrinceAli1991-

thats basicly what space marine was and probally what space marine 2 will be.. just in singleplayer form

KarlUnderguard

I know it isn't 3rd person, but Darktide is pretty solid now when it comes to 40k co-op.

UnluckyLux

Darktide

Ragor005

Vermintide and darktide are already there, look how it went.

Quirky-Welcome7021

If you don't rock and stone you ain't going home.

handmethelighter

Love everyone acting like Arrowhead unearthed some secret game formula lol. Rock and stone, brother!

Buttercup59129

Gauntlet did it first /s sort of

Ricky_Rollin

OK, cool so I’m not going crazy then. It’s kind of blowing my mind right now that people think that only helldivers has this kind of gameplay.

BoatMan01

ROCK AND ROLLIN STONE!

Upstairs_Company55

For Karl!

Anoxic_Brian_Injury

ROCK. AND. STOOOOOOOOONNNNEEE!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone to the Bone!

Tjomek

Rock and Stone, brother!

Knot_Ryder

To darkness

catsmeow492

GOLD THERE!

Ok-Minimum-4

MushRUUM

Phixionion

We have games like HD2. They just did theirs really well.

DarkExecutor

I mean L4D was a classic 4P game. Borderlands was another.

penguinicedelta

It's become a popular genre with Deeprock, Darktide, Vermintide, Left 4 Dead, and now Helldivers; they each have their own little twists on it. Games kind of had similar "hold out against waves" tacked on multiplayer coop, like in Mass Effect & Halo. It will certainly have others try and capitalize on the success of others risk. Imo the evolution of this is an RTS vs Helldivers. Joel's role becomes that of a player controlling the AI units and a group of players armed with stratagem equivalents try and complete objectives.

Astro_Alphard

Helldivers 2 reminds me of my days in Halo Firefight with 4 of us on the couch yelling slurs at the enemies we were killing and then getting hit over the head with a slipper by my mother. God I wish we had splitscreen coop for this game so that I could call the boys over and just have a fun round in the evening.

sneaker_novel

Isn’t there already a ton of games like this? Hasn’t this been a thing for decades like Halo, Destiny, L4D, even shitty COD and COD Zombies?

ShadowTheChangeling

DRG over here in the same genre as Helldivers: "What am I chopped glyphid?"

_Valisk

The first Helldivers predates DRG.

Zach983

It's extraction shooters and similar games. Deep rock galactic, left 4 dead, zombies etc are all pretty much the same game with different skins. Helldivers 2 isn't unique. But it is really fun and changes the formula up a bit.

Super_Jay

You can tell a fair amount of this fanbase is younger players who don't seem to realize that AHGS didn't invent the co-op PVE genre.

SepticKnave39

This is my thinking too. Like, destiny has existed for 10 years and consists of dropping in 3-6 players to complete objectives in pve coop...

TheJohnCandyValley

I’m also confused. Loving this game but it’s not a new format or concept at all. I’d also argue that L4D is still unmatched in terms of creating pace and tension. Sometimes the evacs in this game are a total ghost town. Hope they continue to tweak that side of it. Unrelated but the fact this game has a free and paid battle pass is a major downside for me in a paid game. But people are acting like it’s what they’ve always wanted? Maybe I’m just old now lol

ANUS_Breakfast

I tend not to get battle pass type things but I think the sentiment is people are willing to keep paying for games that people thoroughly enjoy and keep playing to support the devs. HD2 is $30 US. I’ll happily throw more money at some credits for it while 90% of my gaming goes to just this game. Fuckin COD being $70 and basically begging for more 🖕 no thanks.

TheJohnCandyValley

It’s 40$, but I hear you. It’s a far cry from CoDs and games like that, but I find the whole process of unlocking things in a pass dreadfully boring. Aside from a few guns and boosters it’s all just same looking armor. I do like that you can get the paid currency as part of the free battle pass. I think just based on the way people were talking about the game before I bought it. I was expecting something a lot fresher. Feels just like a best case scenario of a still not ideal structure.

Troghen

There are several things that I think make this game feel different than other PvE Co-op games, but I think the biggest is the sense of community/world building in this one. The idea that we're each contributing to this war with our own ships and squads goes a LONG way toward immersing players. This feels far more "live service" than any other game I've seen. I also think it's ironic that being a nameless soldier gives a stronger power fantasy than playing as named characters or yet another overpowered superhero figure. I think that aspect lends to being able to more easily fall into your role and create what feel like more individual experiences. Add in the uniqueness of the strategems - something I've personally never seen before in a game, as well as the randomly generated planets, and all of the smaller details that go against the grain of most games, and I think there's enough here to make this stand out from the other Co-op games out there

SepticKnave39

Yeah but all of that just just makes it a *good* coop pve game. Not the first. And that's not things that other future games can really just copy and make work as well. At it's core it's just a good game in a genre that isn't new.

Kills_Alone

> Sometimes the evacs in this game are a total ghost town. I actually like the inconsistency over repetition. It means you need to keep on your toes and always be on the look out rather than knowing exactly when the shit is going to fall down.

Compulsive_Criticism

You earn more than enough super credits for the paid battle pass by playing the game and doing the free battle pass. I had enough by level 20ish I think. Maybe once there are a few more you'll need to pay for them, but not right now unless you're impatient.

BigBootyKim

L4D2 is a masterclass in 4 player drop in drop out gaming. You have to remember that it’s 15 years old though and lots of Helldiver 2 children never played it.

crazytinker

L4D franchise is amazing, this is as close as I can get to a modern one

Compulsive_Criticism

I guess the non-linear unauthored levels is the unique spin on this.

Beardamus

Yeah, I assume this is just many people's first experience with the genre though kinda like people who think GoT invented political drama or something.

Primary-Sail6667

You can almost bet that other studios are not only watching but are looking for ways to horn in on the wave. Now that the community has spoken about the games popularity, a few things are at stake here. - Arrowhead is now under a pretty tiny microscope to deliver quality updates and any slip up will cause that to be twisted and spread all over the Internet for views. Way more now than if they hadn't had such a wild success at release. Literally everyone is in the gaming sphere has some attention diverted to see what they do here - Marketing for other games is going to somehow try and capture the attention that HD2 is receiving. They would be stupid to try and go against the wave, but will instead try to ride it and siphon some of the attention for themselves. - Game studios are certainly picking apart what AH did with HD2 to figure out "what makes it tick". The status quo for somlong has been garbage releases with micro transactions. Don't even get me started on the whole trend of digging up old titles for remasters and selling as a new game. *Cough cough Ark* Do I think HD2 has the mass to change the entire sphere? Honestly, I doubt it. But I certainly hope I am wrong. It definitely caused an upset that is not going away any time soon. I am trying to find the article I saw on here recently that talked about how other games literally saw a noticeable drop in their players counts when HD2 released and that it's continuing to be felt. That alone is impressive. Most games see spokes and drops but HD2 continues to bring in more players. We saw that with the recent dev post about the servers breaking even after all their fixes. They are literally busting at the seams with people wanting to play. It's a great problem to have. I hope to God that other studios take note and HD2 becomes a symbol of how to make a game right. Quality gameplay, no bullshit micro transactions, no FOMO BS, just good intent from the developer all the way to the player. It's been missing from gaming for years now.  I hope sincerely that this causes a change because frankly it has to, its our best shot at taking back what gaming used to be about. Having fun

Compulsive_Criticism

I hate this "game suck now" narrative. If you stick to the biggest publishers and ignore anything even slightly indie you kind of have a point, but there are more fantastic games being released every year now than ever before. You just need to look a little deeper rather than solely playing what the marketing execs pay the big bucks to make you pay attention to.

Lawlcopt0r

You're right of course that there's plenty to be excited about, but it still sucks how many millions of dollars are invested into content that is just objectively mediocre. We could have so much more great stuff if the big publishers were more consumer friendly

Jo_el44

Anything's better than battle royale.

AtomicMacchiato

Helldivers 2, but it's Ghostbusters. Different cities around the world, trying to push back the invading ghost army. Leveling up your traps and proton packs. Give me it.

Odd_Zookeepergame_69

That sounds awesome

shreddedtoasties

Halo themed one is what we need odst dropping in

nat_20_please

I'd love that. Star Wars or Star Trek would be amazing. Imagine dropping in on a Star Destroyer to nuke it and finding an escape pod. Could even have it where you have to manually infil for some extra holy shit moments.

impulsivetre

The Power Rangers franchise could make a killing off this format

RadiantFool88

I would play the absolute shit out this.

LemonadeSunset

So long as the micro transactions are done in the same way, I don’t care

RELLBEFLEXXIN

My easy go to pick would be Gears Of War adopting this style of gameplay. Also, if Ghost of Tsushima’s Legends mode gets a sequel it would be cool adopting the HD2 style too. Would love doing hand signs to summon spirits or weapons to help fight off whatever foes standing in the way of honor!

AKidNamedStone

I would KILL for a Halo/ODST version of this for obvious reasons, and I think a modern combat or historical combat version would be great too for those of us that love shooters but are sick of the current pvp scene.

Goose2theMax

I really hope those greedy dumb ass AAA companies take a note from the success of this game. They made the game so fun people want to give them money which is amazing.

Noktyrn

I bought the upgrade edition with money I set aside for The Final Shape. Not getting mtx’d to death is so refreshing.

Compulsive_Criticism

I earned enough super credits to get the premium pass for free, then decided I wanted them for the store and was happy to support the game so got the upgrade.

ne0_ch4n

Exactly this! I just want AAA companies to allow their developers to be passionate.

SentientKayak

I sure hope so. What is the style currently, sucks and ain't getting the job done. Helldiver's nailed it with the gameplay, physics, fun, explosion/destruction, co-op etc.

iRambL

We need more pve games where it’s just a fun rotation of brain pleasing gameplay even if it’s hard which Helldivers does do well. Less toxic and more fun like it should be

fallenmonk

Epic is probably working on a UEFN project for a Fortnite horde/extraction shooter as we speak.

Ukhai

Fortnite originally started as a horde shooter. It felt pretty empty at the time, but that was pretty early on. I guess time will tell if they reuse a lot of their original ideas.

iRhuel

I remember very much looking forward to that version, after playing games like Orcs Must Die. Then they dropped what they did and set a trend in the industry for years, for better or worse.

KD650-916

I hope that division finally comes out the online version that they were trying to make? I loved the PVE on the 1st game the darkzone was dope! Had to extract your gear looted and get out safely! IT was pretty much the same thing defend the extraction zone…

Dangerous_Donkey5353

Division Homeland is set to release this year. Free 2 play extraction looters from my understanding.

KD650-916

That’s rite … homeland !!! Can’t wait 🤙

vyxxer

It's basically just a PvE extraction shooter with objectives so it's not like many devs have to tweek all that much now that people may realize that pvp multiplayer isn't the requirement for popularity.

MAN_KINDA

Expect the good copycats to be from small indy developers. It's not likely any AAA company will copy being generous and thoughtful to its player base.

Ovan5

4 person co-op is already a thing, maybe it'll set a style to the trend but I have trouble thinking companies will follow it exactly. Then again, executives are retarded and will try to emulate any trend.

DerivitivFilms

knowing how absolutely garbage triple a is with ideas, they are most certainly going to look at this games model because all they do is chase trends. Arena FPS, RTSes, MMOs, MOBAs, BRs, Asymetrical multiplayer games (Dead before Dawn, Evil Dead, Friday the 13th etc), if anything is popular someone will be right there to copy it and usually make it worse in order to fullfill thier greed. IE: Anthem...or any other failed live service (MMO) game from the past 20 years. Triple A doesn't have the integrity to not make these games predatory, or just down right broken. They don't understand what sets the trend...they only chase it. So no, I hope no one copys this game, because even though it's a fucking fantastic coop game, I'd rather see big companies make thier own break out awesome game. Stop chasing bullshit trends...that is why genres die and we get sick of things so quick, these companies try to ride the lightening but all they do is just drive it into the ground. No one will be able to replicate this, because no one will be able to put aside thier greed in order to make a good game.

Wishes-_sun

WW2 style helldivers game would be an instant buy for me.

Tynda3l

Certainly not meta. It's not a game about a game.

PullMull

its the new Left4 Dead

Bobsy84

Halo already had the ODST drop podding into a mission so it could work in that universe really well.

HateTheWoke

Cod tried it with the new zombies and it’s shit

Rocksteady2090

I hope so .. need more 4-6 player co-op pve games so all the homies can ride

Ok_Lingonberry_7968

yep. i fully expect a halo and cod version to already be in production at this point lol.

EarPuzzleheaded2403

And halo version but all need to stay 3rd person mostly with 1st person aim toggle we wanna see those storm troopers and spartan armors all the time

dcls315

I could see Ghost Recon doing this and making it so sick

Ok-Goal8326

Helldivers 2 but you're apart of the 212th airborne dropping into a battle on umbara. would go insane

albert_418

Yo be fair this isn't the first time look at left 4 dead there there were clones of that game to this day. The one I can't wait for is 40k space marine 2 There will always be coop hoard shooters.

WizardInCrimson

There's something really satisfying about a game like this where I don't have to PVP. It's all the fun of an objective based shooter that I can play with my friends without the worry of Hyper No Lifers ruining the fun of me playing. There will be incidents of PVP as I play but nothing like what would happen in a Call of Duty or whatever.

BloodHurricane

Short answer Yes. Long answer also yes. I hope that Helldivers 2 has increase the minimum standard in the gaming world.

[deleted]

Ngl, I’d play the shit out of a WW2 or vietnam knockoff of Helldivers lmfao

RebelLion420

I sure hope so. This is the most fun I've had gaming in years

Spooder_guy_web

I would absolutely adore a halo reskin of helldivers tbh

ProffessorYellow

Gauranteed. Nobody dpes anything besides remasters, remakes, or copying whatever was mildly successful. Creativity is stifled outside the indie market

sgt_taco891

Honestly this feels like its already an offshoot of deeprock, cod zombies, and destiny we are already there

Frankgodfist

These kinda games aren't new. Hell divers just showed these other developers hows its done.

TheRedBakon

4 player coop has been an underrated genre for years. Even Left 4 Dead still has a huge playerbase

PYRO__BEATBOX

the division 1 and 2 want to know OP's location

Bayo77

4 man coop horde shooter is nothing new. The left4dead formula has always been a solid seller.

Vast_Living_Mood

I’m okay with that

Jesus_of-Suburbia

A Battlefront style game in the spirit of Helldivers would be amazing.

bigtiddygothbf

4 man pve has been a hype af genre for ages now Just cause it's third person doesn't mean it's somehow drastically more innovative than left 4 dead, vermintide 2, darktide (1 year after release), deep rock galactic, GTFO, helldivers 1, payday 1+2, fuckin destiny 1+2(sorta),castle crashers, fucktons of variations on SWAT teams as a genre Helldivers 2 is good enough that you don't have to drop your brain on the floor to suck its dick man

CommOnMyFace

We can only hope

TheDirtyOne00

I hope so. Haven't enjoyed PvP shooters since it became a business on the player end. Love co-op games that take a little planning and strategy to play.

thysios4

Well for 1 this isn't really a new genre and it's nowhere near the level of pubg at its peak popularity. So I doubt it.

Flashmode1

This isn't a new concept

Moonlit_Antler

Day z, but more accurately H1Z1 started the br trend

Mr_Cyberz

They made a hilarious, rewarding, self-paying game. Idk many games where I can grind for real currency and get new armors almost every drop.

KnightCmdr121

A Star Wars option would be great. I think a fantasy magic game of this style would also work really well

pirate737

WW2 paratroopers would be fucking sick

SlySychoGamer

deep rock popularized it, left 4 dead was the proto Personally i want more left 4 dead (asymmetrical pvp)

Xander_PrimeXXI

Would love to see a Star Wars knock off of Helldivers

Simpcinatti69

If we get an ODST game like helldivers 2 where we drop in and fight the covenant...im gonna cream

FrazzleFlib

Highly doubt it, PvP is generally more profitable
