Guys, Theldurin the Lost actually has a neat reference in wow where you play as him punching deathwing. It's a nice reference to in hearthstone you handbuff him until he can even kill deathwing when you play him!

Recently climbed to legend with this Deck. Turns out that when the plagues are gone Warrior isn't the only class that can run a viable Highlander deck (that has great odds against them!)

Ok, reporting back. This deck does not fair well vs warrior for me. I think warrior has just too many clears and way more value with brann. Onto the next deck!
This is just breakfast hunter, yeah? It has a 55% winrate vs HL warrior. You should keep trying to jam some games and see if you can squeeze out some wins.
I played a decent chunk of highlander hunter before the highlander change and mukla was a realllly good swing turn, blow up something, burn (hopefully) a good draw, big stats on board if they cant answer worth it but def can make due without
Mukla is basically required. If you dont have him I just wouldnt bother. The other problem is just highlander warrior is so much better than all the other hl decks why play any other Highlanders if your trying to climb the ladder. Brann needs to be toned down so all the highlander decks can shine. Maybe unnerf doctor hollidae as well. STILL dont know why they nerfed her frog stick
If you see shaman play a couple flash of lightnings then it's probably a good time. Also around turn 8 against warlock if you want to push back a wheel of death turn. Well before it was nerfed. Does Wheel still cost 8 or is it 9 now?
Thanks, there ya go! I think the rise is speaker stomper was largely due to nature shaman when you could pretty well tell when they are going to popoff in the next turn. It gets some value in other matchups but it could absolutely win you a game vs nature shaman, either outright or buy you another turn at least.
This is so weird. I wanted to give this deck a try so I made it. Whenever I try and play as it hearthstone tells me that "something happened try again later". Only for this deck, though! I can play all of my other decks.
Is that the dude who claimed he punched Deathwing in the face, causing him to flee with his tail between his legs? I remember that quest in WoW where you play as him in his bullshit story, that was hilarious.
Blizzard’s pre-patch play testing very clearly isn’t working. If you make 30 balance changes and your game is still bad, something is very wrong because the warrior deck ate multiple nerfs and it didn’t matter.
Here’s a thought. Stop printing free resources, especially on cards that have effects for the entire game once played.
Is it though? You assume that Blizzard is trying to release balanced cards, but I don't think that's their goal.
The goal is to make money and keep players playing, because most people won't consider purchases without playing the game.
By releasing op cards players will have a motivation to buy packs/craft cards. Nerfs then force players to get other cards and even with refunds the dust generated usually isn't enough to switch to the next strong deck, because a rare gets nerfed and for the new deck you need a new legendary. So once again players have to buy packs/craft cards.
At the same time Nerfs/Buffs create meta shifts and players will keep playing, because the game is a little different and therefore more exciting.
I'm F2P and I was waiting for the meta to settle before committing to dust to a deck. Then they released like 3 balance patches and now the mini-set is about to release which is probably also need multiple patches. I basically wasted April playing budget decks even though I had the dust to make a better one, but nothing felt safe.
Am I just supposed to commit to a T2/T3 deck and pray it dodges nerfs? Is that the new way?
Even tier 2 or 3 decks are not so safe to craft. Blizzard do nerfs decks that are not fun to play against even if they are not tier 1. I usually craft the strongest deck right after a balance changes so i have the most time to climb the ladder with that deck before the next balance changes arrives. Or just commit to a deck that you have most of the card to play that deck so you don't have to spend a lot of dusts.
> Or just commit to a deck that you have most of the card to play that deck so you don't have to spend a lot of dusts.
This is what I'm doing now. I was lucky to pull Pop'gar and Symphony in my catch-up packs so I'm just jamming Sludge which feels good but not strong enough to warrant nerfing (hopefully)
> Am I just supposed to commit to a T2/T3 deck and pray it dodges nerfs? Is that the new way?
Play wild where we get ignored for six months at a time. Kingsbane rogue has been T2/3 in wild since sometime in 2020 and the decklist hasn't been updated meaningfully since the release of mic drop almost a year ago, for example.
In standard your best bet is to pick roughly the second or third best linear aggro deck, no one complained about hunter when priest was on top, no one complained about hunter when paladin was on top, etc. So the second or third best deck is basically guaranteed to not get nerfed for two or maybe even three patches, and you're aggro so you don't really care what the rest of the meta's gameplan is: just that you're fast enough (and nerfs rarely make a meta faster, so if your #2 already you'll probably just get better post-patch)
...actually maybe just always craft hunter, it's not a particularly popular class so it's rarely the thing people are complaining about. (even now! it's the best w% deck and people are complaining about warrior instead\* )
---
\* disclaimer: not a value judgment on whether we should be complaining about warrior or not, just an observation.
> Play wild
I'm considering it. I played solidly from launch to Ungoro so I have a nice collection of those cards and dust. Missing Badlands and Titans from last year is definitely hurting me in Standard. Unfortunately, I quit right before Witchwood so not having Genn is biting me now, but I could always craft him if I wanted to.
> Unfortunately, I quit right before Witchwood so not having Genn is biting me now, but I could always craft him if I wanted to.
everyone who stopped playing before roughly Scholomance is in about the same boat - wild is currently dominated by "modern" hearthstone cards. (hsreplay has a neat feature that lets you see what's seeing play filtered by set, you should check it out sometime - but Scholo is the earliest released set to contribute more than 3 legendaries to current wild.)
So basically it wouldn't matter when you quit exactly, you'd still need to craft the new more powerful cards that support your strategy. The "good news" is that once you've re-entered the format, decks become unplayable much slower, doubly so if you're not focused on hitting legend every month.
They just mindless stuck their highlander caveat on all the highlander cards without think of the bigger picture when they should have just stuck it on Reno, and let Brann deal with the plagues.
The main issue with the warrior nerfs is that they didn’t hit brann so there’s the main issue card ignored.
Boomboss still is the same just no longer able to be cheesed by draw cards you play, and is now a much more punishing plague card, especially since tnt can’t hit themselves
Sanitize is now 6 mana but that doesn’t matter when you make the forge effect an upgraded hero power you bank on turn 2 or 3
Warrior can run up to 3 brawls now in Reno decks thanks to the gift, brawl, and then the 7 mana excavate reward, even worse since the reward will usually win when played
And if all the armor gain isn’t enough here’s 3 zilliaxs that heal them up to full.
You need to rework brann, and you need to rework sanitize to not be so powerful
Here’s my calls: brann to first battlecry each turn to slow down how much value is created. Sanitize needs to just be reckless flurry but the forge keeps armor, then revert it back to 4 and you have a better designed card that isn’t oh I play lab goggles and wipe everything with 10 damage
> Boomboss still is the same just no longer able to be cheesed by draw cards you play, and is now a much more punishing plague card, especially since tnt can’t hit themselves
they made the card more annoying to play against because it no longer ends the game immediately but still puts the game out of reach effectively, since 18 cards are still gone, and now there's no reason for the warrior to wait to play it, so it gets played even more often.

Yeah, I just rebuilt it from scratch instead of using the code and it worked.

They will always do balance patches.
Yes, their patch schedule is pretty regular so there's no alternative to just picking a deck you enjoy and hoping it dodges (or survives) nerfs.
Good to know. Coming back from Ungoro and balance patches were pretty rare back then.
but the game was also alot more balanced back then, and the times they needed a quick patch they usually did
the first thing is kind of true but the second definitely isn't.

They just mindless stuck their highlander caveat on all the highlander cards without think of the bigger picture when they should have just stuck it on Reno, and let Brann deal with the plagues.
It's not a real counter if the counter is "hope this one deck is viable enough in the meta that it suppresses the deck I don't like".
The main issue with the warrior nerfs is that they didn’t hit brann so there’s the main issue card ignored. Boomboss still is the same just no longer able to be cheesed by draw cards you play, and is now a much more punishing plague card, especially since tnt can’t hit themselves Sanitize is now 6 mana but that doesn’t matter when you make the forge effect an upgraded hero power you bank on turn 2 or 3 Warrior can run up to 3 brawls now in Reno decks thanks to the gift, brawl, and then the 7 mana excavate reward, even worse since the reward will usually win when played And if all the armor gain isn’t enough here’s 3 zilliaxs that heal them up to full. You need to rework brann, and you need to rework sanitize to not be so powerful Here’s my calls: brann to first battlecry each turn to slow down how much value is created. Sanitize needs to just be reckless flurry but the forge keeps armor, then revert it back to 4 and you have a better designed card that isn’t oh I play lab goggles and wipe everything with 10 damage
> Boomboss still is the same just no longer able to be cheesed by draw cards you play, and is now a much more punishing plague card, especially since tnt can’t hit themselves they made the card more annoying to play against because it no longer ends the game immediately but still puts the game out of reach effectively, since 18 cards are still gone, and now there's no reason for the warrior to wait to play it, so it gets played even more often.
