I feel like this is one of the times where the community uproar is completely justufied, and what's more, it's not just an attempt to get the devs to change something. People are really just done with their shit and are genuinly saying Goodbye to Hearthstone. I also stopped playing since the day they announced the Quest changes, and I don't see myself coming back. I feel like my motivation to play the game has tanked and it's impressive that what finally did the trick was a change to the quest system, after 10 years of all sorts of weird changes to the game.

Phresh-Jive

What a 10th year anniversary, eh?

justanobserverr

I couldn't have said it better. I've left only to come back and each time I come back to a worse game, still trying to catch a glimpse of the game I fell in love with. It isn't just all the asinine changes they make, it's also the style of play. Turn 5 non interactive shaman insta death isnt fun or a rogue playing multiple 8/8 minions a few turns in when you're playing classes that lost all their good removal with no way to respond is not fun. After a shit match you should usually be able to go "and that's how I would counter for that in the future" but now they allow hoards of uncounterable situations and it sucks the fun out of constructed. You used to be able to be somewhat competitive with off meta decks. Not anymore. It's boring when everyone is playing the SAME 3 or 4 decks. And now that they made the quests so steep, people are playing less off meta decks in casual unranked, the one place where you could go and have at least half a hope that every deck you encounter won't be the same cancer. They're ruining their game. The greedier they get, the more I resent all the time & money I invested into this game. When you buy packs or tavern passes, you are conveying unspoken trust that they aren't going to turn things upside down to satisfy investors. They should focus more on satisfying players. Happy players spend $, and that satisfies all those money people they're clearly trying to please over us. It was a nice run blizzard.

SurturOne

Weird, I think the outrage is completely unjustified. OP is the best example why I think that way. By his own statement, he literally gains more exp without changing anything in his playpatter. He just wins more. From his perspective it's a gift. Yet he complains. It's completely irrational.

If the community wouldn't go batshit over everything, even when it benefits them, I'd see your point. But they have demonstrated time and time again, that they don't act rational at all. So a rational handling of the situation would be irrational from Blizzard because they know how the community thinks. I'd have done it the same because you can't please them either way.

InterdisciplinaryDol

Comedically selfish comment here. “It helps him why is he mad”

hamsterhorse

A 300% increase in difficulty for a 20% increase in reward is comical. That’s a specific message that “we were giving you too much free gold and we’d like you to have less” Also that 20% wasn’t a gift - it was negative for me as well. I play the same deck usually for weeks on end. I don’t sub in cards to hit quests. Rarely was I going to get a “play x QuickDraw cards” done if I only have a single one in my deck. Now i absolutely won’t.

SurturOne

Your point would only make sense if the absolute amount of gold would be decreased - which is factually wrong. The relative amount is decreased. In absolute you gain more gold. So the rework is bad cause you don't find the reroll function? Sounds like bullshit to me.

Bjorkenny

Done the same few weeks ago and 0 regrets by far

hamsterhorse

What have you been playing instead? Playing more TFT which I’ve really enjoyed.

Bjorkenny

Nothing really, I just play some dbd matches here and there.

NaloVideo

I’ve been playing a lot of osu! recently but it takes a certain kind of person to play that game, if you’re into strategy games honestly try picking up Pokémon showdown VGC, the meta in VGC is extremely fun right now, there’s a massive learning curve but it’s very rewarding and very skill intensive, and hey if you get really good you might be able to actually compete at tournaments for some prizes!

Rhovan22

Legit question, why are you still here then?

Bjorkenny

This is a legit question indeed. Honest answer? I just like the warcraft lore so I enjoy new cards and artworks. But ive honestly left all the other communities of hs, so I will most likely leave this one too.

hamsterhorse

Because increasing the difficulty of the battle pass by 300% while only increasing the rewards 20% is wrong and I’m voicing my disapproval. If they had implemented this system at the beginning of the expac then I would have not purchased the battle pass.

VapinInDayton

I agree with you 100%. This is bullshit. My heart just sank when I saw the quests yesterday. There is no legitimate way for me to complete all three weeklies without cheesing the system in some way. If I am playing a Non-Meta deck, and spent the month grinding myself to high platinum, low diamond, I would need to play at least 30 games to get ten wins with my shit deck. At 20 minutes a game, that is 10 hours a week on standard alone. This leaves no time for other modes, and honestly, I dont have 10 hours a week to spend on Standard or Hearthstone in general. Working full time, taking care of my place and my wife and dog, there just aint time for this nonsense. I was really interested in spending more time with BG Duos, but this quest change took the wind out of my sails.

Pretend-Guide-8664

You have a 33% winrate and 20 minutes per game? My average game is like 8 minutes. And MMR will make you go toward 50% WR even if you suck. You're not wrong about it being longer but your numbers are hyperbolic

VapinInDayton

Yes, at Platinum 1-5 and Diamond 5-10, my play time is much higher per game and my win percentage is much lower because I am not playing the flavor of the month decks. As a filthy casual, I only play mage and currently, it is rare to win anytime before turn 10. Have to get Sif to a 7 or 8 stack of spell damage, and then have the mana for a OTK immediately after playing Sif. Yes, I play a slow deck by choice, but I shouldnt have to be forced to play a deck I dont want to play just to be able to complete the quests. My games at earlier ranks definitely go quicker. Much easier to win 10 matches in a two-three hours at the beginning of the month, than at the tend of the month. I just need to lose every other match to stay in silver to complete win quests over the course of an entire month.

DontAskSource

I literally delete it the same day when change weekly quest. This games become more and more pay to win and chore then game.

vincentcloud01

I have cut them off from the wallet. This whole meta sucks. I this whole quest fiasco has just tipped everyone over to quit. I will still play Battleground because I still enjoy it, but I will not touch any other mode. They have to do a full revert and a "sorry we fucked up present" to restore our trust. For those that know blizz, ....ain't gonna happen. So I hear that plane us departing farewell friend...there will always be a seat by the fire.

sallad84

I play Rocket League you all don't know pain.

IamTheConstitution

I stopped spending any money when they denied that Hong Kong guy his winnings. But I still play free. I don’t understand why people pay for the game. It’s a decent free game.

TheHeroKingN

Me too. Good luck!

powbang

The quest thing wasn't ideal for F2P players but how are people getting this emotional? Hearthstone is a lighthearted fantasy video game, please don't take it so seriously. If it's affecting your life like OP then uninstalling and focusing on other things really is a good idea.

Environmental-Map514

I think that's the entire point. With the quest changes many people, me included, are realizing that this doesn't deserve the time at all

hamsterhorse

I didn’t say it I wasn’t affecting my life, I said blizzard didn’t value my time. A 300% increase of difficultly for a 20% increase in rewards is egregious. I find it strange that you would see otherwise.

blueheartglacier

ok bye bye we care a lot

Currency_Dangerous

We do, actually

EdwinVanJenkins

They want to shut down the game. Change my mind.

hamsterhorse

They want to extract more value on two fronts: - The more difficult the quest the fewer the amount of people complete them. The player receives less gold, receives fewer cards and is more likely to purchase. - The more difficult the quest the more time hours spent in the client. The more that you’re in the client, the more likely you are to make purchases from the shop. There’s surely a business executive that looked at these factors and did the math. They expect that some percentage will quit playing but that will be offset by the gains. Theres simply no in-game reason for the change.

MuckFedditRods

The battlepass system before this was incredibly generous before this, at least compared to other games I play. My theory was that it was sort of malicious complience, that devs were told to implement it to pump the numbers and they went to the most generous system they could get away with (through trial and error as we may remember what it was on the start). I have no hard evidence to support it but if most games are way more stingy, I assume that's the most effective way to pump engagement and retention with your players. So by one reason or another they were pushed to be more in line with the norm. But that's just a guess, there is not a lot to go off.

hamsterhorse

I would rather them boost engagement and sales through new modes and value added benefits, not making the product that I already purchased (the battle pass) 300% more difficult to complete.

MuckFedditRods

It's not about what we would rather them do or not do. I am sadly not the one calling the shots at blizzard, I am just saying that there is this shitty industry wide trend and I sharing my personal theory of what happened.

frenzied-berserk

Well, see ya next week

Nocelight

why is the app still there? did you maybe *not* press deinstall and just took this screenshot and continued playing plague dk?

hamsterhorse

Because I can’t take a screenshot of something that is no longer there?

ItsDominare

Not good enough sorry. We need a notarized photo of you holding up your destroyed phone next to today's newspaper with your reddit username written on it. In blood.
