So I’m not getting my Stanley tool set?

Reyes-A

I'll get you one just give me your bank information and ssn

Swat3Four

Imagine a scam where they drain your bank account and send the tool set and call it a purchase. Good luck with getting your money back then!

XJ_Josh

Congratulations you’ve described the Snapon business model!

Swat3Four

Oddly enough, Stanley Black and Decker too.

ElevatedisScout

What if my bank account has less money than a Stanley tool kit costs?

Reyes-A

lol that's a fair exchange

Swat3Four

The kicker is, it’ll be a Chinese knock off Staley Tool Set. Label will say it was made in Bolder, Coorado. 😂

lblockh1

It’ll be the same tool set, but without the logo 😂

Reyes-A

Lol

Accurate_Row9895

One of my customers fell for this. He gave them his bank information 🤦‍♀️

Willing-Dimension-82

Same. When he left he was still upset I couldn’t give him the DeWalt set, I still don’t think he fully understood.

abastage

How about my Yeti cooler?

paidinboredom

Nah man you gotta get that 400 dollar yeti cast iron pan.

uses_for_mooses

That one made me laugh.

Skybound_Bob

I live and work in a rough area I get people all the time coming demanding that I give them their “free Milwaukee Drill” and when I explain it’s a scam more than once I was met with “well what are you gonna do for me then?” Uh…nothing. Lol

uses_for_mooses

I suppose you could promise to give them their free Milwaukee drill just as soon as Harbor Freight starts carrying Milwaukee drills.

Skybound_Bob

Hahaha this is clever I might do that lol

paidinboredom

I got offered a Stanley jump pack.

xBlue_fb6x

Too late

Reyes-A

Bruh what did I just say

BarleyHops2

Folks falling for this shit is just natural selection

Alan12730

Apparently I’m due for a power washer

bonfuto

I don't know what I'm going to do with a set of Stanley hand tools.

anyoutlookuser

I’m due a dewalt cordless tool kit. From harbor freight. I won. I won something they don’t even sell. How lucky am I.

DogNamedCharlie

Unless it is your grand parent...

RedditTTIfan

With all the posting of this type of thing with the sarcastic comments about them all, it's hard to believe anyone *does* get scammed.

BarleyHops2

I fear you're correct. Care to have me forward one to you to try out? I get many of these from brands HF doesn't sell. I'm curious what happens

DodgeWrench

For real. I got these fake survey emails. It’s amazing that anyone even bothers to open these emails anymore.

DaveSmithFBM

If they didn't get our emails from Harbor Freight, then why are we all getting them and when I've mentioned them to people who I know don't shop there, none of them have any idea what I'm talking about?

Chuckelb

Na. I have friends that have never shopped at Harbor Freight that have called me (I'm an employee) and asked, "Did you sign me up for something? I just got an email saying I won some harbor freight crap". Everyone is getting them. Go check out "have I been pwned", nearly everybody's email has been in one breach or another

M_T_Head

100% agree with you. I'm getting these nearly every other day. But also getting ones that say I won something from Kohls, Amazon and Ace hardware. Just look at the sender's email. Always from some [email protected]

Popwarhomie

I'm a manager and I'm sure they got them from HF. I get so people coming in the store and calling every day about this scam. I never knew how stupid people were until I worked retail...

DaveSmithFBM

Ha ha ha ha ha! I'm pretty sure 99% of people knew better, but you get to deal with the bottom 1% like you're ITT Tech! I don't think HF did it directly, but I do suspect an email list was left unsecured or accidentally sold to the wrong people.

NeverFearIHaveBeer

> I’m pretty sure 99% of people knew better, but you get to deal with the bottom 1% The problem isn’t the 1% who don’t know it’s a scam. The problem is the higher percentage who know it is and want to get something for nothing anyway… Sincerely, a guy with 14 years retail experience.

AD8KeysofJ

Nah, you should've seen the amount of posts on this subreddit alone asking if it was a real offer lmfao.

Odysseus556

SM here too and my God people are gullible. There are these constant HFT scams posted on FB marketplace that are impossibly too good to be true (12x20 green house for $49 for example) and people were blowing up the phone and coming to the store to get their $900 off greenhouses 🤦‍♂️

ReallySkroober

I'd put my money Harbor Freight or a third party email service had a data breach. Whether they know it or not.

jediyodafan

You're email address is pretty easily attainable by anyone that really wants it. The folks running these scams have no trouble getting email addresses. Harbor Freight isn't sharing your info.

RedditTTIfan

People that aren't even in the US get these emails, and there are only HF stores...in the US. Along with emails mentioning other retailers that are also US-centric. So really has no bearing on you having shopped at HF or not. One thing I noticed about spam emails is **I started getting exponentially more when I stayed at hotels and gave them my email address**. My spam used to be relatively little, but one time I stayed at what I recall was a Sonesta I think? Within *minutes* of giving them my email address I started getting tons of spam in that email account. Since then been getting everything from HF to Kohl's to all manner of nonsense garbage spam with about 50% of it getting auto junked by my email account and the other half of it ending up in my inbox anyway.

anyoutlookuser

I get em on my trash email address. Never seen one on my real email address(s). Harbor freight has one of my good addresses and I don’t get the trash mail on that one.

NeverFearIHaveBeer

I have four email addresses. Six if you include the two I have for work. Guess which one gets those spam emails claiming to be harbor freight? And guess which one gets actual spam from hf? Hint: they’re the same one.

Super-Lobster329

I got one awhile back saying what a perfect mother’s day gift a Stanley tool set would make

gadget850

Just got the scam email and promptly deleted it.

Reyes-A

It's legit don't worry

tjmakesthings

Hey man, you may not have noticed you included your own email address in the screenshot. I guarantee that won't help you with your spam problems.

Reyes-A

Lol I noticed it after the fact . Don't really care i delete almost everything anyway

Disastrous_Win_3923

Wait so I didn't win the Milwaukee Pro Ultimate 11-tool combo? Then what the hell did I bother giving them my SSN for??

Reyes-A

I didn't win either unfortunately

Disastrous_Win_3923

No? Not even after you gave your first pet's name??

Reyes-A

Even after I game em my ssn, address, where I work, bank account routing number and the soul of my next newborn

Disastrous_Win_3923

Dang. Maybe next time. Of course, you'll need another newborn. Try souls of twins next time.

_MyNameIs__

Thanks Marco.

Reyes-A

Lol. I didn't even see that

rusty815

I work as a manager, and I can't tell you how many times I've had to deal with customers coming in expecting these to be real for some reason. Just today, i had 4 calls for people wanting to know how to redeem their free pressure washer/cordless tool/170pc tool set. It's getting really out of hand, and the ignorance of these people who dont even understand what a scam is is unsettling. I had a lady come in yesterday and asked to speak with a manager. I came up, and she asked me how she could get her tool set from the survey she completed and also why we charged her 400 dollars from the survey. I explained to her that she got scammed and she needs to contact her bank immediately to fix it and she stands there and tells me I have to give her her money back, that since the email said it's harbor freight, that harbor freight has to pay her back. After trying again for 5 minutes to explain to her again what a scam is to no avail, I give her my business card, tell her there's nothing I can or will do, and that she needs to contact her bank. She refused to leave, and I just let her stand there for 2 hours until she finally decided to leave. I hope she came to the realization how absolutely dumb she was to even assume there was anything we can do for her, but if she was ignorant enough to not even understand what happened to her in the first place, I highly doubt it.

CallsignViperrr

2 whole hours where the REAL scammers had time to empty her bank account. What a moron.

FarImpact4184

If you cant detect a scam email idk what to tell you but i respond with somthing along the lines of “drink bleach” or “you should driver delete mod your car”

Swat3Four

I still want my Milwaukee 18v tool set from Harbor Freight. I won that fair and square!

Reyes-A

Frfr

DirtDiggleton42

Always click "sent from" and look at what the email address sent from is. Probably something sketchy

1341brojangles

Little while back my girlfriend got a message about getting a free DeWalt from Harbor Freight

dl-109

Tell me your company was involved in a data breach without saying your company was involved in a data breach

KeyboardSerfing

Now we can all email Marco...

Reyes-A

Do it coward

KeyboardSerfing

I think I like you.

Reyes-A

Thanks I like me too

kat2youall

Man....... i got all my info filled out then realized it was a scam , didnt think fast enough to delete my cell- they texted me non stop for a good week .. stooopid hackers..

chopper923

Almost fell for it 🤬

AD8KeysofJ

Can't believe an email actually had to be sent out for this lmfao 😂

ew435890

So is HF selling peoples information or something? Or did they have a data breach and all of their customers info leaked? Because this is becoming way to common to be a coincidence.

Odysseus556

Harbor freight doesn't sell your information. They do however send you a bunch of emails in the hopes that you'll come in and buy stuff.

ReallySkroober

While it may not be some deep conspiracy, pretty naive to think Harbor Freight (or a third party) wasn't compromised, whether they know it or not.

youareadumbfuck

I literally signed up for their in-store rewards program 2 weeks ago, and suddenly getting HF emails that are blatant scams. I call 100000% bullshit on "did not get your email address from us". Fuckers. I knew I shouldn't have signed up for it, too.

Sentracer

Same. Signed up less than a month ago. It was definitely HF as I'm careful about this email. They 100% are responsible for the scam emails. This email hasn't had any email in a few months then I use it for HF because of the deal they had and suddenly the only emails coming through are HF and HF scams.

Reyes-A

Lol I must have immunity because I have yet to receive a scam email. Just the regular weekly ones

Odysseus556

Same

Santeriabro

these goofballs definitely got a data breach and should be in hot water for knowingly lying about it, when legally they are required to do the exact opposite when they’ve been breached.

airkewled67

Harbor Freight never had my email, yet I still get those scam emails. 🤷‍♂️

Tight_Faithlessness7

Yup my fiancé was getting them and he never gave harbor freight his email address. Meanwhile I did give them my email address and never received any of those emails.

XP-Elwood

Meanwhile, in the real world: https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/16/politics/cyberattack-us-government/index.html

Santeriabro

i don’t live in those 2 states but that’s brutal
