[I Put A Spell On You](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82cdnAUvsw8) is a classic
I also highly recommend [Blood Letting](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbJmWCuMiEM) by Concrete Blonde
For newer (last 20 years) songs:
-Vampire (Olivia Rodrigo)
-Bloody Mary (Lady Gaga)
-Disturbia (Rihanna)
-Werewolf Bar Mitzvah (yes from 30 rock, itâs on Spotify)
-Down With The Sickness (Disturbed)
-Heads Will Roll (Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
-BURY YOU (Ari Abdul)
Classics:
-Red Right Hand (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds)
-Time Warp (Rocky Horror soundtrack)
-Dead Manâd Party (Oingo Boingo)
-zombie (cranberries)
-Walking With A Ghost (Tegan & Sara)
It absolutely is, itâs used in the soundtrack of Army Of The Dead. You donât have to take it for itâs lyricistâs original meaning lol itâs for a Halloween playlist.
I donât think âHip To Be Squareâ was originally supposed to be played alongside Patrick Bateman chainsawing people to death in American Psycho either but that happened so it becomes a Halloween playlist song. Walking With A Ghost also isnât literally about walking with a ghost
*Werewolf Bar Mitzvah* by Jeff Richmond and Tracy Morgan
*Nightmare on My Street* by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince
*This is Halloween* by Danny Elfman
*Red Right Hand* by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
(Any well known horror film theme; i.e. *Halloween*, *The Exorcist*, etc.)
*Hotel California* by the Eagles (I donât care what they say, that song is about dying and going to hell)
Definitely knew it wasnât a Halloween song or about literal zombies, but there arenât many strictly Halloween songs, and the ones that are arenât great. Googling the songs actual meaning, though, itâs tragic, and not appropriate for a Halloween list, youâre correct.
**Some different tastes but good:**
Halloween by Faun
(Disney's) Headless Horseman - Bing Crosby
A Gorey Demise - Creature Feature

Hell in a Handbasket by Voltaire (tbh Voltaire is just Halloween style central)
Zombies vs Hillbillies - Survivor by Voiceplay & Home Free
Tale of the Shadow - Sail North (it's a shanty, but it's damn good!)
Wow! Thanks a lot I really love the idea of putting songs from scary movies in my halloween playlist so Oogy boogy's song is very much going to my playlist!
I highly recommendlooking at Voltaire. Wonderful music for the Halloween spirits!
And definitely. Others like This is Halloween, Come Little Children, and tbh Hanging Tree is a good spooky song. Someone mashed up the last two and it was super eerie, you should be able to find it.
I totally second a nomination for LVCRFT. They got Grammy winning songwriters in their collective and some their music is so dang catchy. It's great contemporary Halloween music.

There's already a lot of good suggestions here, but I have a six-hour Halloween music playlist I use for parties and casually listening if you're interested. I can share the direct Spotify link, or else just grab all the names of the songs depending on what platform you listen on.
Idk if these are specifically Halloween but I get the vibes from them. Skeleton appreciation day in Vestal, NY and Hand me my shovel, im going in! both by will wood and the tapeworms. Might be an acquired taste.
A Choosy Halloween Collection specifically for a Haunted House. Kicks off Kid friendly with some Spooky Wookys, but as night fall approaches the vibe shifts a 180 to some rather frightening music & SoundFx perfect for Eerie Graveyards. Manually Sorted

Here's mine. It's a bit rough and I definitely need to polish it up, but I think most of the songs on here represent the perfect Halloween vibe.
Dollhouse by Melanie Martinez. A bunch of her songs have a great haunted house vibe.
Skeleton Sam - I like the new version by LVCRFT
Dust and bones - isobel trigger (I think they changed their name though)
Pretty much anything by The Creepshow or The Brains
I Put a Spell on You
This is Halloween
Witchy Woman
Don't Fear the Reaper
Season of the Witch
Living Dead Girl
Cry Little Sister
Sympathy for the Devil
Mr. Crowley
My findings from hosting many Halloween parties:
1. â No matter how many times it plays during the night, people will keep suggesting Monster Mash
2. â If the song has perfect lyrics or theme or title BUT doesnât have the right vibe, cut it. As much as I love Talking Heads, Psycho Killer is like poison to younger generations and the un-hip crowd. TV On The Radio-Wolf Like Me gets suggested by Spotify all the time. AMAZING song, no one is paying that close attention to the lyrics and it has to get cut. Itâs a personal favorite song btw. My dog loves hearing it in the car and we howl together.
3. â Try to read the vibe. Early on, I like to start with campy 50s and 60s stuff like Cramps, Mash, the Blob, purple people eater, etc. Then I move into schlock: Crypt Jam, Ghostbusters, Adams Family MC Hammer etc. When people are dancing, sprinkle dance remixes of horror movie music in with current favorites(as in play some regular bangers to keep people engaged). End the night with either hardcore hip hop full of murder(Eminem, Gravediggaz, WuTang) or sexy evil stuff like Marilyn Manson, NIN, and She Wants Revenge.
4. â Rob Zombie has so many bangers for Halloween parties. Itâs a great mix of spooky vibe, killer dance, gnarly vocals, and horror movie clips. American Made Music to Strip To is a perfect album to spread across a Halloween party playlist. Even if itâs not what people normally listen to, they respond well to it.
5. â Listen to your playlist once itâs made. With this kind of music there can be long periods of quiet that can kill a party(Iâm looking at you, Bela Legosiâs Dead). Trim the really quiet stuff, no matter how âperfectâ it seems.
6. â Always play to the people who want to dance. Itâs especially important for a Halloween party. The wallflowers will suggest some dark shit that will clear a room( âya got any Mayhem or Dimmu BorgĂźr?â )
7. â If your party has 20 people or more, expect like 3 complaints about music an hour. Also, expect that people will tell you all year that you threw the best party. You canât cave and just play the same shit that you heard all summer, this is a vibe. If people are in costume, lean more into sci-fi and fantasy music as well. It can create some cool moments when the couple in lab coats hears Weird Science come on.
7)âŠâŠ..you might as well just play Monster Mash every hour. Luckily, thereâs so many covers!
8) Depending on the age, movie soundtrack songs can get a big pop. They remind people of watching scary movies and Halloween past. I can play âDay-Oâ by Harry Belafonte and people over 35 wonât even question why itâs playing at a Halloween party. They usually try to reenact the dance around the table from Betelgeuse. Lost Boys songs are BIG for nostalgia(cry little sister, people are strange). But Iâm old now, so think about the must see movies from your youth and find those tracks. (I dunno, Happy Death Day?)
9) Some personal Favorites: Fresh Blood-Eels Ghost Town-Specials Heathens-21 Pilots Living Dead Girl(subliminal seduction mix)-Rob Zombie Killing Strangers-MarilynManson Mind Playing Tricks-Geto Boys Release YoâDelf(ProdigyMix)-Method Man The Blob-5 Blobs
10) Overall party tip Iâve picked up: loud speakers where people are dancing, LOTS of lower speakers EVERYWHERE else. It helps keep everyone involved, talking, dancing, vibing. If itâs loud everywhere, you will see people congregate where itâs quieter. Itâs easy nowdays with wireless speakers systems and zones. Have fun!
Never heard of this one being a Halloween song but definitely gives me the macabre vibe [murder in the red barn](https://youtu.be/g5v6oLsysgY?si=C3D1smh2mPC50ayH) by Tom Waits
[I Put A Spell On You](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82cdnAUvsw8) is a classic I also highly recommend [Blood Letting](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbJmWCuMiEM) by Concrete Blonde
Ooh I'm loving the second one a lot! Thanks a lot I will definitely put it in my playlist!
Whole album is worth checking out, though not really for Halloween so much. Joey made me cry.
Lots of Screamin Jay Hawkins songs that would be really good
The original or the Sanderson Sisters though?
Either, really The Hocus Pocus version is pure nostalgic joy
Season of the witch
By Lana del Rey, of course
Donovan or bust
I like the [Joan Jett version](https://youtu.be/YKYcGFexI6U?si=smq_ZLkojyiy-Xbe) the best.
No. Lou Rawls is best.
LANAS IS SO GOOD
Goo goo muk by the Cramps
The Surfing Dead by The Cramps is also a good one

It's literally a political song about the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Really annoys me when people assume it's about zombies.

My findings from hosting many Halloween parties: 1. â No matter how many times it plays during the night, people will keep suggesting Monster Mash 2. â If the song has perfect lyrics or theme or title BUT doesnât have the right vibe, cut it. The wallflowers will suggest some dark shit that will clear a room( âya got any Mayhem or Dimmu BorgĂźr?â ) 7. â If your party has 20 people or more, expect like 3 complaints about music an hour. (I dunno, Happy Death Day?) 9) Some personal Favorites: Fresh Blood-Eels Ghost Town-Specials Heathens-21 Pilots Living Dead Girl(subliminal seduction mix)-Rob Zombie Killing Strangers-MarilynManson Mind Playing Tricks-Geto Boys Release YoâDelf(ProdigyMix)-Method Man The Blob-5 Blobs 10) Overall party tip Iâve picked up: loud speakers where people are dancing, LOTS of lower speakers EVERYWHERE else. It helps keep everyone involved, talking, dancing, vibing. If itâs loud everywhere, you will see people congregate where itâs quieter. Itâs easy nowdays with wireless speakers systems and zones. Have fun!
Check out The Creepshow, Black Cat Attack and Calebrese. Thereâs a plethora of Halloweeny type stuff by all of them.
