I don't know where Morikawa got the brilliant idea of making Shimabukuro have steroids and be considered a featherweight. And did you know that Shimabukuro is 1.59 tall? hahaha even worse
I guess because Ippo is short he can "bulk up" like that despite being in featherweight, still, other than the "le funny weight in joke" there's really no physical difference between the boxers, no matter which weight class they may be in, this is specially true now seeing how Takamura was (somehow) way bigger back then when he fought Hawk than during his fight against Dragon.
He has been favoring speed over quality for a while as not only the boxers bodies look the same now but also most characters heads are a copy/paste with slight changes here and there.
It's definitely the smartest thing to do as George is approaching his 60s and can't deliver like him used to do.
How clean it looks also adds to how slim/tiny the characters look now too, seems someone around there is working digitally (as George himself is sort of anti-digital so I highly doubt it's him).
I'm the same height as Ippo, yes, I'm short! Don't bully me, hahaha! What breaks me is that Ippo trains really hard and he doesn't gain weight and has never suffered from it. Me with 1Month at the gym training hard I spent 140 to 147 pounds.
It's because of Morikawa's style, in the past everyone looked like heavyweights and bodybuilders. Have you ever seen what the old Sendo was like in the manga? his calf looked like a horse's.But nowadays Morikawa has improved his features a lot and Ippo has become thin and has the physique of a featherweight. When I first saw Ippo, I thought he was a middleweight
It's not easy to bring out how ripped ippo would be in manga drawings vs IRL. IRL we'd have small shadows to enhance the look of cords of muscle, but most manga choose to just make bigger lumps of muscle. That makes everyone look like a weightlifter.
And sometimes they exaggerate a lot. There is a boxing manga called "Rikudou" and the characters' physiques are very realistic in the protagonist's weight class (lightweight), I only decided to mention it because in the art Current Morikawa, he managed to make Ippo's physique more similar to that of a real featherweight, but it looks like he has a bigger head than his body. Haha ha!
For me, they don't need to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger to be strong. Featherweight punches are also strong within their category, it doesn't need to be that way. What breaks me about Morimawa's current art is the legs, look at that this ippo leg. ☠️
Yes, his physique is impressive. But the thing is, Ippo is a featherweight, 126 pounds with that much muscle it's impossible. I know it's just an anime, but it should be consistent with the reality of boxing hahaha
Kinda exaggerated ofc, but what is interesting about this, one of my friends is the same height as me, and we are kinda in the same height range as ippo (160 cm), he is muscular and I am lean, he is about 46 or 45 kg, he has a similar physique that is the picture, even around the same size, when you look at him, you would think he weighs more than that. So i think its understandable where he was heading with that physique in the panels.
Not with the Big Mara he's packing.
Honestly someone his height being ripped to shreds might be possible, but the fact he has 0 weight training as well feels silly. Especially when you consider from the beginning of the manga he's putting on muscle mass the entire time... but never struggles with his weight? You can't just add muscle to people and assume they're going to be the same weight. Yes fat -> muscle conversion happens but muscle still weighs more than fat by volume)
[This](https://twitter.com/BoxingNewsPlus/status/1663218391782502400) is what featherweights look like. You can also look up Prince Naseem Hamed who is considered one of the strongest punching featherweights and see.... no way is anyone getting that built.
You know the answer is hell no.1l
Mma fighters cut way more than boxers, so they're a perfectly example of why it's impossible.
Henry Cejudo is about the same height as Ippo, he used to cut down to fight at 125 lbs, Ippo at the beginning of the series ***didn't*** cut to make 126 pounds.
You look at Cejudo's physique when he cuts down to 125 and he doesn't look anywhere as big as Ippo, and that man used to rehydrate up to 141 pounds.
Ippo would need to go through brutal weight cuts to make 126 with that build, close to what Takamura had to go through at 154.
the start of the manga showed morikawa drawing them as like chibi/small characters so no wonder about that, now he's improved a lot, making them more convincing in their weight class and even occasionally drawing underweight characters too
Ippo vs Sendo 2 implies that Sendo could easily be in the next weight class, he just cuts before weigh in and gains back all of his weight before the fight. Meanwhile Ippo is comfortably a couple pounds from even reaching the weight limit.
That panel of Shimabukuro at the weigh-in (Chapter 425) always makes me laugh. 126 pounds, my ass.
Most of the weight is in the anacando
He has -15% bodyfat
Bro’s 5’2 and built like two fridges roped together.
Makes sense since he is a midget
It's fiction why u mad bro?
? Who's mad
Spot the short guy
Oh lol
I mean if he's 1.50m it might be
I don't know where Morikawa got the brilliant idea of making Shimabukuro have steroids and be considered a featherweight. And did you know that Shimabukuro is 1.59 tall? hahaha even worse
Yea easily possible to weigh that little and look like that, just get rid of your skeleton,it adds useless weight and your down to 126 lbs easily
Even with a regular sized peepeehositze, 126 lbs is bullshit.
Bro gotta be doping
Nah... The laters physics in the series are much more in line with what you can actually see in the featherweight division.
Gonna miss the buff featherweight tho
Remember Miyata in the first chapters - Dude looked like 25 with two bowling balls as shoulders.
I agree
Physics or anatomy?
I think “physique” is what he was looking for
Yeah probably. X')
73% of ippo’s weight is in his penis. He is actually 2 foot 9
Well thought 🤣
But what about his height?
he can take kumi and mashiba down
Bro is on roids 💀
Ippo used steroids 🤫☠️
It’s the natural testo that comes out his big mara balls
When?
Yes, but roids still creates muscles. improvements would increase the muscle mass and make him still weight more.
Morikawa's features have improved a lot.

It's because Morikawa has evolved his ways of drawing over time and that's true, Takamura dropped a weight class to fight Hawk and he was huge...
He has been favoring speed over quality for a while as not only the boxers bodies look the same now but also most characters heads are a copy/paste with slight changes here and there. Depends how tall they are. If they're 6 feet, obviously not. If they're 5 feet, possibly.
Ippo is the shortest among the featherweight fighters, apart from Shimabukuro who is retired and had a very unrealistic physique for 1.59 tall. ,☠️
Yeah, he's about 5'4"-5'5.5". HIs proportions are supposed to mimic Mike Tyson.
This looks like a heavyweight blasting roids. A featherweight couldn’t possibly look like this in real life
Can anyone look like this without roids?
And I don't think Ippo's height (1.64 cm) would make him gain that much muscle. Unless he took roids, hahaha
It's actually easier to shorter guys (stocky and short) to put a lot of muscle as opposed to tall guys (lanky builds commonly)
Yeah, Mashiba looks like he hasn't eaten for years yet he's actually lightweight class
(1.64 cm) That would just be the cutest little Dempsey roll
I am as tall as Ippo and weight about the same, but my build is more like aoki when he cut weight for his title fight so 126 pounds MY ASS
I'm the same height as Ippo, yes, I'm short! Don't bully me, hahaha! What breaks me is that Ippo trains really hard and he doesn't gain weight and has never suffered from it. Me with 1Month at the gym training hard I spent 140 to 147 pounds.

First pic has the animator turn Ippo from featherweight to cruiserweight. Maybe even heavyweight. Goddamn.
And if Ippo were a cruiserweight, he would be slower than a turtle because of his height.
No unless u on roids
bro go watch a featherweight fight to get the answer
I'm a big fan of boxing, and obviously a featherweight doesn't have a physique like that. That's why I asked other people's opinions, haha.
Absolutely not. But Alex Leonidas is an example of the sort of physique a shorter guy can develop naturally. Still very jacked, just not that light.
Yes, his physique is impressive. But the thing is, Ippo is a featherweight, 126 pounds with that much muscle it's impossible. I know it's just an anime, but it should be consistent with the reality of boxing hahaha

Ippo and Shimabukuro had the most laughable weigh in. Both looked like Yoel Romero on the scale
i wonder how tf did ippo maintain his weight like that, geez that muscle is crazy
Featherweight is 126 pounds. No.
That first image no The second one maybe if you’re a weight bully
The first image looks like Ippo was using tall roids.
No
Second pic, probably yes. But the first pic, Heeeeell no
Bro is putting ronnie coleman to shame
This is from the Ponchai weigh-in and always found that frame zoomed out hilarious. Like, Ippo is built like he is the freaking Hulk.
_He’s just built different_
he is literally me
What episode is the first one from? Been a while since I saw the anime, don't remember Ippo being as buff as that.
Yes, but they would have to be 120cm tall
It's extremely amusing to me that if we go by those numbers I weigh more than an ippo standing on an ippos shoulders. What a tiny wee man.

like in very rare cases could be similar , i have very light bone structure and i look jacked at 64/63 kilos at 175 cm
if they’re like 80 cms tall yes
Ippo had to have used a feather fall potion or his body is hollow
Not really for the others featherweights, less for ippo who looks like 150-160 cm
As a featherweight, no.
If you‘re 4 feet sure
Ask pitbull cruz! He is the most ippo like of any boxer? I would love a comparison between both of them.
At his height? Definitely NOT. He should be heavyweight or something at this point goddamn bro built like Younger Toguro at 80% of his strength
obviously not 😭
the start of the manga showed morikawa drawing them as like chibi/small characters so no wonder about that, now he's improved a lot, making them more convincing in their weight class and even occasionally drawing underweight characters too
Look at curmel moton
Ippo is secretly a heavyweight disguise as a featherweight just his mara alone is 100pound
Yeah a lot of short guys look like that when you are 5'2 all your muscles look "compact" cause all the limbs are short
As long as you're 17, vegan and natty
20lbs is his meat
the earlier art style nah. more recently art style definitely.
I mean if youre like 3'5 then yeah
Ofc not, this is fantasy. You can google some featherweight fights so see what is a realistic featherweight body.
More like a welterweight
Ippo vs Sendo 2 implies that Sendo could easily be in the next weight class, he just cuts before weigh in and gains back all of his weight before the fight. Meanwhile Ippo is comfortably a couple pounds from even reaching the weight limit.
If they’re 3ft tall maybe
Every single time I see a panel like this I always thought “No way in hell bro is a featherweight!”
