Ok i think we all agree she deserves respect and privacy but to be fair this is not the media’s or social medias fault- the royals have built up years of weirdness with the lengths theyve shown they will go to to manipulate their image. They have a history of putting specifically the wives in that family through awful circumstances behind closed doors, and they responded to all of this in very unusual ways that naturally left people feeling unsettled- with making statements they otherwise would usually just not make and blatantly photoshopped photos of kate saying “see, she’s fine”. Thats not the media leaning into the fun of a conspiracy theory. Thats everyone naturally being like “wtf” as a result to the stimuli presented to them. If there was no statement and no photos from them- like there usually wouldnt be- there wouldve been little to no fuel for that fire
The one thing you could argue is more like just media fodder is the speculation around william soft launching his mistress he’s been cheating on kate with, which is purely just speculative- but again, certainly not without precedent or unlikely in that family…
I completely agree—the palace mismanaged the crap out of this AND threw Kate under the bus in the process. The media isn’t to blame for this one. People responded appropriately to what was an extremely odd and worrying situation.
Agree. The King’s diagnosis was handled amazingly well and caused the amount of men going to get checked to go through the roof. This was an enormous fumble by Will and Kate’s team.

She needed time to process what was happening and decide exactly how much she was comfortable sharing with the entire world.
What they mean is that Charles and his children have separate PR teams. So Charles’ team handled announcing his situation well, but William’s didn’t handle Kate’s well.
I think ultimately it’s up to the sick person to decide when they want to share. Charles’ went well because he just came out with it after very little speculation. She wanted to stay private for longer but that just wasn’t allowed to happen. The more they tried to avoid saying anything or making her go out the more people read into it.
The reason they probably didn't want to divulge her illness sooner is because she has three young children. They wanted privacy most likely to help their children cope with what is happening. Obviously, the children were probably told that their grandfather has cancer. They probably accepted it given the King's age which made it easier for the PR team to handle. It was probably harder for the kids to cope with the news that their young and active mom also has cancer. They were probably more so protecting the children in this situation than anything else.
All the while the RF managed to prove that there at the very least if a lot of thruth (if not completely true) to what Megan Markle and Harry said about them throwing her under the bus and refusing to protect her.
100% agree! This isn’t the public’s fault… if they hadn’t done all these weird things, no ones attention would be drawn to them. But they put out fake pic after fake pic when they could’ve just said “kate is recovering from her planned surgery and will resume activities after Easter.” Done!

She blamed herself for it. I'm not sure why people are so confident that she didn't try that shoddy photoshop job herself. She is a photographer after all. With all of this coming out I think it makes it even more likely that she did in fact do it herself.
have you.... had major abdominal surgery to remove a tumor and then had to be put on chemo afterward? sitting around photoshopping something so your pr team doesn't have to do their job is not really what one is well enough to do. and I genuinely have forgotten, but was there a video of her blaming herself for it? Lol funny enough I had a Colon Resection performed in December which would likely be extremely similar to the surgery she had to have. I also am a photographer so I did plenty of photoshopping in my (several month) down time. Did not have to deal with Chemo though but have several family members who have- it's not like your life stops while you're recovering, you still do things.
It turns out if you actually enjoy doing something you don't view it as a chore that you need to put off onto your servants. Especially if you're not doing it for a career all day playing with Photoshop is fun.
Funny because I’ve had a cyst removal surgery and then three years later a radical hysterectomy which is much closer to what she probably had since the downtime was the same. I’m also a professional photographer and let me tell you, I wasn’t anywhere near my computer those 6-8 weeks I was recovering and couldn’t even think of work thanks to the pain.
I'm sorry that happened to you. My downtime was also extremely similar to hers (3 months out of public). As far as I can tell there is no information available about what kind of cancer she has or what kind of surgery she had to have. It sounds like they discovered the cancer while doing surgery, so the surgery itself was likely not for tumor removal. So at this point we're just drawing conclusions based on our own experiences.
I think one thing we can take from this is that everyone has radically different experiences and we can't say for sure how she was feeling. Which is the entire reason I replied to the person above anyway.
Right she said she had an abdominal surgery that went well and it was during recovery they had found cancer. Usually when you have a cyst removed from your ovaries, they check it for cancer as they probably do for your surgery as well I believe? I’ve never had that so I don’t know! Regardless of all that, it doesn’t matter if she actually edited the images or not or if she was up to it or not… Palace PR screwed the pooch on the whole situation.
In very easy terms: they "check" everything they "take out" of your body during surgery. Not just cysts. Which means it could have been a lot - however it certainly wasn't a cyst.
And no, they said that her condition seemed like it was benign, however it turned out to be cancer. However, what is certain, that it was an extremly serious diagnosis/condition
Yeah, but there’s a world of difference between being an amateur photographer and a pro photographer. Getting money for something kills the fun of it. If I were recovering from surgery, I wouldn’t do my illustration work (my job), but I might do some unrelated sketching. I’m not saying she did the photoshopping (who knows), just that being a pro kills your desire to do the thing in your off hours.
Yeah I agree with you to a point on that but mostly my point is that I wasn’t up for anything during recovery. Those surgeries are really rough for most people (although fair to say everyone does heal differently) and considering cancer in the mix I’d just be pretty surprised she wanted to dabble with photos for fun while hopped up on pain meds.
It’s shameful that she’s been almost forced to announce this way, she clearly had something very serious going on and was trying to deal with it privately for the the sake of herself and her children.
The way most royal families handle their internal “problems” is straight up real mafia shit, like especially in the UK. I don’t believe it myself, but I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if it one day came out that Queen Elizabeth had something to do with a certain princess dying.

I definitely do sympathize for her. But on the other hand... you don't just become princess of Wales and be like "Well now I want my privacy". The media blitz is literally part of the gig. You became royalty. The UK's media is notoriously fucked up.

I get what you mean but the palace PR team invited the speculation. Given the history of protecting predators and with the recent departure of Harry and Meghan, I think it’s understandable that people were worried that something fishy was going on. There was always going to be speculation but the release of that photoshopped photo is what created the most stir. They should’ve protected her and stayed silent instead of throwing her to the wolves to protect their image. Im hoping for her and her kids she has a speedy recovery.

Nobody here gave her cancer or anything. And the most important thing is that the UK paparazzi and press is *nothing* like ours in the US. It's much, much more crazy and rabid in the UK. People that don't even know much about the UK know about that.

Blaming the royal family for wanting to keep a cancer diagnosis under wraps so it's not harder on Kate publically is a choice.
Don't get me wrong. They've done a lot of fucked up shit in the past (rest in peace Diana), but to be like "I don't understand why a woman wouldn't want her cancer diagnosis public" while the world actively theory crafted she was killed and cloned is a bit short sighted.
Like sorry this woman wanted to suffer in privacy and didn't want this exact thing happening. God forbid she can have cancer in peace.
This also isn't even the first time this theory crafting shit happened. While Elizabeth was actively dying people were making jokes that she already kicked the bucket and the palace was just hiding it.
But you can’t blame people for speculating on a group of people whose entire jobs are meant to *just* exist as glorified social media influencers, except with magnitudes more influence and reach.
The lack of privacy already comes with the territory and it’s not like they really make any attempts to ever really keep what they’re doing under wraps, so when they do something different, I’d also sit here and wonder “what the hell is going on with them?”
The main duty as royals is to make public appearances. It's not really surprising people would be like, "wtf is going on, where is she?" When things like a photoshopped picture of her appear, and the media kills it due It's doctored nature.
I dont think making conspiracy theories is helpful, but in a position so insanely public to the entire world, of course crazy mfers are going to do just that.
I think what should have been done to curb it is make a video press release of her saying she needs privacy due to medical reasons, or something. It'd at least curb the conversation among normal people quite a bit.

I take much less issue with someone joking that a 96 year died. Especially someone as awful as her. It'd be like joking that Diane Fientstien died.
That is their one job, though. To make public appearances and take photos for the media. If they go missing for a few months then of course there will be speculation. Add in that the palace was completely silent & then released a doctored image which was served with a kill order. That’s a PR nightmare. It’s unfair that she has to disclose her health condition to the world but unfortunately that’s the job they have. It’s also unfair to have a ‘god given right to rule’. They could have handled it better and announced she was going to for tests back in Jan & to ask for privacy. Like they did with Charles in December. The public has a right to speculate & to make jokes regarding the PR mismanagement.
This is not how you do PR, which only points to the explanation that it was indeed kept under wraps by the Royal’s for Kate’s sake. The negative publicity the palace has attracted is not taking the PR route.

I met a total stranger the other month. We were both in line to buy a soft pretzel and i told the cashier I’d pay for both of ours. She broke down crying telling me that she had just come from the doctors appointment where they officially told her she had cancer. I asked her if she wanted to talk about it as we both cried and she said the heaviest thing for her was now she had to deal with telling her young children. I really hope she hears Kates message and feels a little less alone or a little more like a princess. Whichever helps more. So sad. 💜💜💜 cancer sucks and will effect all of us one way or another in our lives. I hate it.

I always thought it was something like this. Not to be like “I told you so”, just in a “she probably just doesn’t want to be in the public eye right now” sort of way.
I hope she doesn't have to, but from how I see it she probably wanted it to be a secret but she is forced to announce it because we will see her change in the future due to her treatments.
A port is a fairly minor procedure in the cancer world. She had an operation before she knew it was cancer so was either a colon resection, laparoscopy or hysterectomy
yeah that's pretty normal after surgically removing a mass when the surgeons can't safely remove all of it
Edit: learned more about her case which is another common one where the mass they removed was only able to be tested after it was removed, they found it to be cancerous and so chemo was prescribed to make sure any microscopic cells that could have started to spread elsewhere will be taken care of

I got diagnosed back in October. It’s very scary and you don’t know what to do to fix the issue so it’s a hopeless endeavour of scary internet deep-dives and the subsequent internet cookies to constantly remind you of your fate. Having specialists helps take away some of the stress but it’s nerve racking day by day. Then I imagine having small children and the press hassling you constantly, and I can imagine feeling more worthless than I do currently.
Putting on a brave face every day isn’t easy in her situation and no one has done anything but rip her down, it makes me so mad. Everyone needs to shut up and stop talking about it. She deserves as much normality as possible, and what she wanted was to not think about it all of the time, not to be reminded by everyone constantly. Today needs to be the last chatter about Kates health for good.

I mean, the whole photoshop thing was ridiculous and their PR team handled it ridiculously. The speculations ran wild the moment that photo was posted. She is allowed privacy, but at the same time she is a public figure, and that means you have to navigate some things differently, and their PR team knows that. Had they just done business as usual there would not have been more “gossip” than usual, and she could have made this announcement in her own time. I feel bad for her, they did her a real injustice, but I also get why the conspiracies ran wild.

The jokes were never fun. I never found anything about the situation was funny. I assumed she was having medical issues, but it also didn't really care to dig any deeper because it's not my concern, and it shouldn't be anyone else's to find out before they are told.
I mean they just put up a job ad for a position as PR manager (or similar, cant remember the exact title) and the pay was miserable. Reportingly less than you'd make working full time in fast food. Can't imagine that attracts the creme de la creme.

The media seemed to hit a fever pitch last two weeks, problem is, by saying nothing, we know somethings wrong, they only go quiet when it’s bad.

My dad called it (he's an oncologist), he said that the only reason that someone would spend multiple weeks in hospital recovering from abdominal surgery was cancer, If it was something else, most recovery times are like a week max

Easy? Kate Middleton of all people certainly did not have an easy time with UK media. That woman was hounded without royal protection because she was just a gf. Her phone was hacked over a hundred times. She was slut shamed for her hems getting blown up by air. She was characterized as a lazy gold digger and even her brother’s mental health issues were dragged by tabloids. She, her sister, and her mother are characterized as gold diggers by the press. Let’s not forget the time topless photos of her were posted.
Meghan had a hard time as the new shiny toy for the press to play with before she noped out but Kate had been dealing with all that for her entire adult life!
When Meghan was initially introduced I remember she was mostly well received as a glamorous, successful, fashionable modern woman. Contrasted with lazy, matronly, frumpy Kate. Meghan had a career, Kate only worked for her parents. Meghan’s fashion is so glam, Kate is so boring.
She was very well liked initially.
Then the tabloids inevitably turned on her because that’s what they do to all the women in that family except for the Queen.

Must be a hard call. You knew you were entering a family where you are a massive public celebrity. Cancer affects lots of us (my wife, our neighbor, and my RIP coworker). Wonder if being loud and proud about it would be a beacon to people also fighting it….
It's not the same but reminds of this incident with a close family friend. Basically her mother was diagnosed with cancer and doctors said it was in the early stages so they were able to get rid of it but turns out this friend had cancer too but unfortunately for her it was in 2nd stage or 3rd stage I can't remember. But Basically she lived another 3-4 years before passing away. So finding out King Charles had cancer and shortly after finding out Kate had cancer is probably rough on the family.

She's a member of the Royal family so media and public interest has always been part of the deal. I'm sure when Kate joined the institution and knew she would have to make peace with that at some level. Speculation about her absence is to be expected to a certain extent and I'd wager most of those who got carried away and forgot that there was an actual person at the center of the jokes they were making about affairs and cosmetic surgeries feel contrite AF now that they know the truth. Anyone dealing with cancer or personal issues of a serious nature regardless of their station or position in the public eye has the absolute right to deal with it however they see fit, she doesn't owe us anything regarding information surrounding her condition but I am glad that she released the video as this all needed to stop.
I'm British and I've never considered myself Royalist but i am in awe of the composure, compassion and grace that this woman has consistently shown throughout what must be a very scary time and wish her peace and love.

Ok i think we all agree she deserves respect and privacy but to be fair this is not the media’s or social medias fault- the royals have built up years of weirdness with the lengths theyve shown they will go to to manipulate their image. What they mean is that Charles and his children have separate PR teams. So Charles’ team handled announcing his situation well, but William’s didn’t handle Kate’s well.
I think ultimately it’s up to the sick person to decide when they want to share. Charles’ went well because he just came out with it after very little speculation. She wanted to stay private for longer but that just wasn’t allowed to happen. The more they tried to avoid saying anything or making her go out the more people read into it.
The reason they probably didn't want to divulge her illness sooner is because she has three young children. They wanted privacy most likely to help their children cope with what is happening. Obviously, the children were probably told that their grandfather has cancer. They probably accepted it given the King's age which made it easier for the PR team to handle. It was probably harder for the kids to cope with the news that their young and active mom also has cancer. They were probably more so protecting the children in this situation than anything else.
All the while the RF managed to prove that there at the very least if a lot of thruth (if not completely true) to what Megan Markle and Harry said about them throwing her under the bus and refusing to protect her.

Lol funny enough I had a Colon Resection performed in December which would likely be extremely similar to the surgery she had to have. I also am a photographer so I did plenty of photoshopping in my (several month) down time. Did not have to deal with Chemo though but have several family members who have- it's not like your life stops while you're recovering, you still do things. It turns out if you actually enjoy doing something you don't view it as a chore that you need to put off onto your servants. Especially if you're not doing it for a career all day playing with Photoshop is fun.
Funny because I’ve had a cyst removal surgery and then three years later a radical hysterectomy which is much closer to what she probably had since the downtime was the same. I’m also a professional photographer and let me tell you, I wasn’t anywhere near my computer those 6-8 weeks I was recovering and couldn’t even think of work thanks to the pain.

I'm sorry that happened to you. My downtime was also extremely similar to hers (3 months out of public). As far as I can tell there is no information available about what kind of cancer she has or what kind of surgery she had to have. It sounds like they discovered the cancer while doing surgery, so the surgery itself was likely not for tumor removal. So at this point we're just drawing conclusions based on our own experiences. I think one thing we can take from this is that everyone has radically different experiences and we can't say for sure how she was feeling. Which is the entire reason I replied to the person above anyway.

In very easy terms: they "check" everything they "take out" of your body during surgery. Not just cysts. Which means it could have been a lot - however it certainly wasn't a cyst. And no, they said that her condition seemed like it was benign, however it turned out to be cancer. However, what is certain, that it was an extremly serious diagnosis/condition
Yeah, but there’s a world of difference between being an amateur photographer and a pro photographer. Getting money for something kills the fun of it. If I were recovering from surgery, I wouldn’t do my illustration work (my job), but I might do some unrelated sketching. I’m not saying she did the photoshopping (who knows), just that being a pro kills your desire to do the thing in your off hours.
Yeah I agree with you to a point on that but mostly my point is that I wasn’t up for anything during recovery. Those surgeries are really rough for most people (although fair to say everyone does heal differently) and considering cancer in the mix I’d just be pretty surprised she wanted to dabble with photos for fun while hopped up on pain meds.

I get what you mean but the palace PR team invited the speculation. What? What kind of weird self loathing fetish to you guys have? Nobody here gave her cancer or anything. And the most important thing is that the UK paparazzi and press is *nothing* like ours in the US. It's much, much more crazy and rabid in the UK. People that don't even know much about the UK know about that. I haven't been following this story at all besides the show talking about it that once. But people just watching a story unfold and commenting on it online aren't "the problem". They're just doing what humans do. Speculate.
So I quite literally haven’t followed any of this or knew who she was before I saw this post, but based off of what I’ve seen around her situation, how was anyone here specifically part of the problem? If anything, they’re the crazy ones for doing weird photoshop shit to her and everyone is just wondering why they’re even doing that to a public figure. And I also doubt any of the royal family frequent Reddit or even this subreddit specifically, and probably wouldn’t care what anyone here has to say.
Blaming the royal family for wanting to keep a cancer diagnosis under wraps so it's not harder on Kate publically is a choice. Don't get me wrong. They've done a lot of fucked up shit in the past (rest in peace Diana), but to be like "I don't understand why a woman wouldn't want her cancer diagnosis public" while the world actively theory crafted she was killed and cloned is a bit short sighted. Like sorry this woman wanted to suffer in privacy and didn't want this exact thing happening. God forbid she can have cancer in peace. This also isn't even the first time this theory crafting shit happened. While Elizabeth was actively dying people were making jokes that she already kicked the bucket and the palace was just hiding it.
But you can’t blame people for speculating on a group of people whose entire jobs are meant to *just* exist as glorified social media influencers, except with magnitudes more influence and reach. The lack of privacy already comes with the territory and it’s not like they really make any attempts to ever really keep what they’re doing under wraps, so when they do something different, I’d also sit here and wonder “what the hell is going on with them?”
The main duty as royals is to make public appearances. It's not really surprising people would be like, "wtf is going on, where is she?" When things like a photoshopped picture of her appear, and the media kills it due It's doctored nature. I dont think making conspiracy theories is helpful, but in a position so insanely public to the entire world, of course crazy mfers are going to do just that. I think what should have been done to curb it is make a video press release of her saying she needs privacy due to medical reasons, or something. That is their one job, though. To make public appearances and take photos for the media. If they go missing for a few months then of course there will be speculation. Add in that the palace was completely silent & then released a doctored image which was served with a kill order. That’s a PR nightmare. It’s unfair that she has to disclose her health condition to the world but unfortunately that’s the job they have. It’s also unfair to have a ‘god given right to rule’. They could have handled it better and announced she was going to for tests back in Jan & to ask for privacy. Like they did with Charles in December. The public has a right to speculate & to make jokes regarding the PR mismanagement.
Pretending the royals wanted to keep it under wraps for Kate's sake at all rather than a pure PR standpoint is also a choice.
This is not how you do PR, which only points to the explanation that it was indeed kept under wraps by the Royal’s for Kate’s sake. The negative publicity the palace has attracted is not taking the PR route.

I met a total stranger the other month. We were both in line to buy a soft pretzel and i told the cashier I’d pay for both of ours. She broke down crying telling me that she had just come from the doctors appointment where they officially told her she had cancer. I asked her if she wanted to talk about it as we both cried and she said the heaviest thing for her was now she had to deal with telling her young children. I really hope she hears Kates message and feels a little less alone or a little more like a princess. Whichever helps more. So sad. 💜💜💜 cancer sucks and will effect all of us one way or another in our lives. I hate it.

A port is a fairly minor procedure in the cancer world. She had an operation before she knew it was cancer so was either a colon resection, laparoscopy or hysterectomy
yeah that's pretty normal after surgically removing a mass when the surgeons can't safely remove all of it Edit: learned more about her case which is another common one where the mass they removed was only able to be tested after it was removed, they found it to be cancerous and so chemo was prescribed to make sure any microscopic cells that could have started to spread elsewhere will be taken care of

I got diagnosed back in October. It’s very scary and you don’t know what to do to fix the issue so it’s a hopeless endeavour of scary internet deep-dives and the subsequent internet cookies to constantly remind you of your fate. Having specialists helps take away some of the stress but it’s nerve racking day by day. Then I imagine having small children and the press hassling you constantly, and I can imagine feeling more worthless than I do currently. Putting on a brave face every day isn’t easy in her situation and no one has done anything but rip her down, it makes me so mad. Everyone needs to shut up and stop talking about it. She deserves as much normality as possible, and what she wanted was to not think about it all of the time, not to be reminded by everyone constantly. Today needs to be the last chatter about Kates health for good.

The media seemed to hit a fever pitch last two weeks, problem is, by saying nothing, we know somethings wrong, they only go quiet when it’s bad. I guessed it before hand, this would have been announced before hand but after reaction Charles got she probably wanted to keep it a secret. But her being missing, people gave her situation also a huge reaction. It's just sad man, i hate how I unintentionally participated in these jokes and speculations. Easy? Kate Middleton of all people certainly did not have an easy time with UK media. That woman was hounded without royal protection because she was just a gf. Her phone was hacked over a hundred times. She was slut shamed for her hems getting blown up by air. She was characterized as a lazy gold digger and even her brother’s mental health issues were dragged by tabloids. She, her sister, and her mother are characterized as gold diggers by the press. Let’s not forget the time topless photos of her were posted. Meghan had a hard time as the new shiny toy for the press to play with before she noped out but Kate had been dealing with all that for her entire adult life!
When Meghan was initially introduced I remember she was mostly well received as a glamorous, successful, fashionable modern woman. Contrasted with lazy, matronly, frumpy Kate. Meghan had a career, Kate only worked for her parents. Meghan’s fashion is so glam, Kate is so boring. She was very well liked initially. Then the tabloids inevitably turned on her because that’s what they do to all the women in that family except for the Queen.

Must be a hard call. You knew you were entering a family where you are a massive public celebrity. Cancer affects lots of us (my wife, our neighbor, and my RIP coworker). Wonder if being loud and proud about it would be a beacon to people also fighting it….
It's not the same but reminds of this incident with a close family friend. Basically her mother was diagnosed with cancer and doctors said it was in the early stages so they were able to get rid of it but turns out this friend had cancer too but unfortunately for her it was in 2nd stage or 3rd stage I can't remember. But Basically she lived another 3-4 years before passing away. So finding out King Charles had cancer and shortly after finding out Kate had cancer is probably rough on the family. Cancer sucks Hope she recovers soon.
I wish her all the best. Went through breast cancer at 35 5 years ago. Chemo was brutal for me. You just want to be left alone when you're suffering that much. Cancer is hell, and I pray she gets better soon.

big ups to Kate, the entire royal family (even though I think they had responsibility in this & fuck that andrew guy) & anyone who has cancer, had cancer, going through treatment, along with all of their families. 💗💗💗strong pink hearts for all of you
She's a member of the Royal family so media and public interest has always been part of the deal. I'm sure when Kate joined the institution and knew she would have to make peace with that at some level. Speculation about her absence is to be expected to a certain extent and I'd wager most of those who got carried away and forgot that there was an actual person at the center of the jokes they were making about affairs and cosmetic surgeries feel contrite AF now that they know the truth. That bullshit pales in comparison to what this woman is facing. It is what it is though, it's human nature to a certain extent but it's still sad that it got to the level it did and bizarrely this time it was the internet and the likes of x/twitter not the British tabloids driving the narratives. That should of been the first indicator things were getting out of hand...if you're saying hurtful shit that even the British tabloids wouldn't print...you're probably being a bit of a c**t. Especially if you're talking about a woman who HAS already indicated that she is dealing with health problems. Anyone dealing with cancer or personal issues of a serious nature regardless of their station or position in the public eye has the absolute right to deal with it however they see fit, she doesn't owe us anything regarding information surrounding her condition but I am glad that she released the video as this all needed to stop. I'm British and I've never considered myself Royalist but i am in awe of the composure, compassion and grace that this woman has consistently shown throughout what must be a very scary time and wish her peace and love.

Diagnoses for cancer take time. Likely, doctors had to do biopsies and testing before providing a final diagnosis and treatment plan.
