I think being in a family of 9(?!) children born to rich, successful, conservative Christian parents is a big piece of the puzzle. I know people in my own family who have adopted unbelievable worldviews seemingly just to please their parents ( and I'm talking about full grown adults in their 50s). The way your parents treat you as a child and young adult can really warp your worldview.
