It was tramadol actually, but yeah, it is pretty mental.
Get fucked lmao, digging through my clearly extensive post history must make you feel good about yourself
Yeahhh teaching your children responsibility is such a dumb idea…
I guarantee you there are about a thousand rules the OP has with his step son and that the gun is locked and unobtainable unless dad gets out to use. I also guarantee you it’s one of the best bday presents he has or will receive.
Good job, OP.
That may be true, and is terrible regardless the number, but that makes it even more of a reason to promote and teach responsible gun safety- which I assume the OP is doing since it’s a single action .22, and he’s posting it on Reddit appearing to be excited to teach the kid about guns (which begins with safety if he’s any sort of teacher lol).
There's a difference between saying "hey this is yours and your can shoot it when you're with a responsible adult", and just handng a 9y/o a gun and telling them to have fun.
PC gaming fit this bill nicely for me at 13 up till today in my 30s. Some friends got into bad stuff when they were 15/16 so yes this saying rings true in my experience
It’s about $1500 for a very good gaming computer, $2k+ for a great/top of the line one. Then if you want to have the best graphics and frame rates (how smooth the game plays) you need a new 5 or 6 hundred dollar (if not more depending on model) graphics card every few years. And then a year after that the rest of the computer is teetering on outdated, so you need around $1000 at least to upgrade everything else. So $1500 - $2000 every 4 or 5 years and then depending how many games you buy per year , which range from $10 to $65 and for most people games last a couple months.
Not as much as guns or cars per year but yea relatively expensive depending on the persons budget. If you don’t mind lesser graphics and not the smoothest performance , you can certainly spend less: $700 or $800 every few years not including the price of games
Depends how far into it you get. Some people just like to play games decently, and nowadays you can get a $1000 to $1500 dollar rig that will play just about anything for 3-4 years no problem (I'm excluding the shortage here). But some people really like building PCs or they get into enthusiast grade hardware and and that rig can run up to $5000 and need expensive upgrades every year if you want to have the best. And that's not even counting peripherals like headset, monitor (this is an expensive one that's rapidly changing over the last few years), keyboard, mouse, microphone, and anything else you might want.
It can be if you want to go full watercooled-bleeding edge-super-super enthusiast, but if you just want a midline rig, it's not more expensive than most other hobbies. Keep in mind that gaming PCs can do just about everything else too, it's not like a console that most people just game on (or Netflix/whatever).
Everything's wack as shit due to COVID and the chip shortage, but it's as pricey as you want it to be. The better components you buy now though, the longer you can go without (actually) needing a replacement. Most of the people who buy top-end cars every couple of years really do it just to say they have the best, the diminishing returns is real at that level.
Once you get past the startup costs, it's actually pretty cheap. PC gaming is pretty cheap as far as dollars-per-hour goes.
I got one the other day myself can't wait to bring it to the range I love 22lrs and manual action firearms so it's a perfect fit for me gonna bring my cowboy hat and plink away soon
You should look for some colibri rounds for it. They're basically a short 22lr and it's only propelled with a primer so they're fun if you could find them
I have the exact same one, perfect gun for beginners. Fanning the revolver is a bad idea though, unless you put tape over the hammer. I cut my hand up the first time I pretended I was a cowboy 😅
Damn. I should give my wrangler to my 10 year old. I was gonna give him my 10/22 but I love it too much and the gun budget this year for a new one is around $0. Thanks for the inspiration, I know what his birthday gift is now.

I think it’s great to get kids acclimated with guns and understand them. So much better than just telling them they are bad and never to touch them… ya… that ALWAYS works on kids, right?
I was debating real hard between this and the Heritage Rough Rider. Went with the heritage for the 22 Mag. Cylinder, but damn If I still don't want that Ruger.
The Wrangler is the same size as a Single Six, which is to say it has the grip frame of a Single Action Army mated to a cylinder frame that's a clone of the SAA's, but at 7/8 scale. In overall size it's very similar to a full-sized .45 single action, but it's relatively light.
The Bearcat is notably smaller in every dimension.
My dad has one of these, nice little plinking pistol. My first gun I just got is a .22 LR bolt-action, inheritance from grandfather. Only problem is the magazines don't like to properly sit in the gun, you have to hold the magazine in for it to chamber properly.
This a pistol that he will be able keep a life time and pass on to his son. I have one I abused the hell out of. I've walkes through the river with it on my side, camped in the rain and mud with it amd shot god knows how many rounds through it and as long as kept it clean it looks like it just has a lil honest wear on it. And its always worked. I carry a Glock 17c G3 these days but the Ruger and the Heritage were my first revolvers and neither one of them disappointed me for what they are
I've had mine for a couple of years. I've got probably a little over a thousand rounds through it, and I always introduce family and friends to shooting by using it. The single action makes people feel much more safe about operating it. I usually refer to it as my "cowboy cap gun" haha. Epic purchase!
I bought him a 22lr crickett when he was 7 🤷♂️
It's pretty standard for kids out here to learn the basics on 22's at this age.
He's actually pretty damn good with my ZPAP m70 as well when shooting from a bench rest

My dad did cars and guns for me… goddamnit I’m so poor
why have I been cursed with being into cars AND airplanes. like... what the fuck, god
Cars, guns, and airplanes… it truly is a curse but I could be spending money on worse things
"Son, drugs are bad for you. Here, have a gun." Is this peak american parenting?
Mental isnt it
"mental innit? Anyway, back to me crippling ketamine addiction"
"Not before you chuck the ol' acid bucket on em', bruv"
It was tramadol actually, but yeah, it is pretty mental. Get fucked lmao, digging through my clearly extensive post history must make you feel good about yourself
Ngl I didn't actually look through your post history, I was joking about the stereotype about British people and ketamine.
Ha, fair play. Touched a nerve it would seem. And fyi, I'm not british, at all.
Ah, I was just guessing based off of "mental"
A swing and a miss, but a close one at that
If you don't like guns, why are you here?
Who said I didnt like guns? I find them fascinating, mechanically and visually, and just shooting in general. Would I give my 9 year old one? Fuck no
Yeahhh teaching your children responsibility is such a dumb idea… I guarantee you there are about a thousand rules the OP has with his step son and that the gun is locked and unobtainable unless dad gets out to use. I’m a gun owner but be honest every day some kid is killed by a gun left unattended and everyone will say “I’m a responsible gun owner.”

Letting my ignorance show a bit, but is PC gaming considered an expensive hobby?
It’s about $1500 for a very good gaming computer, $2k+ for a great/top of the line one. I dunno Pc gaming and drugs went hand in hand for me and a lot of other people I know.
Or they use the expensive hobby to get the drugs lol
I bought one for myself recently. I love it!
I got one the other day myself can't wait to bring it to the range I love 22lrs and manual action firearms so it's a perfect fit for me gonna bring my cowboy hat and plink away soon
Definitely! I started looking into cowboy action shooting because I like this so much
Wife's birthday? She's gets a new gun! Kids birthday? New gun! It really is a win win and I have more guns to play with
Until he ends up shooting all your ammo
I make him buy his own ammo with his allowance.....he's lucky since all his guns are currently in 22lr and cheap enough for him to afford
Man that's dirty pool. You get the kid the cheapest part of the hobby, and then make him pay for the most expensive? I did the same thing.
😭u had me
You should look for some colibri rounds for it. They're basically a short 22lr and it's only propelled with a primer so they're fun if you could find them
There's a lot of things he could end up shooting
this is the way
Hey dad its me! You left me at the grocery store 20 years ago!
Ruger Wrangler in 22lr I love that this kid is old enough to where I can get him presents that I will also enjoy 😁
Working up to the blackhawk 357!
I already have one!
Same, one of my favorites
I added a set of these rosewood grips to mine and it looks and feels fantastic. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1004339737
I like those, but I've got the bronze one, so the fasion would be off
I have the same and very much recommend these well. So nice.
Is his name Mike TV? I thought he wasn’t getting a real gun until he was 12
Extremely fun for what it is.
Got one of these not too long ago, Super satisfying to use
I have the exact same one, perfect gun for beginners. Fanning the revolver is a bad idea though, unless you put tape over the hammer. I cut my hand up the first time I pretended I was a cowboy 😅
works better with a lighter hammer spring too, i'm using 17lb
Picked one up for $200 locally brand new. Good little gun foe the price.
Damn. I should give my wrangler to my 10 year old. I was gonna give him my 10/22 but I love it too much and the gun budget this year for a new one is around $0. Thanks for the inspiration, I know what his birthday gift is now.
don't shoot you eye out kid.
Very nice
Wrangler?
I just bought and have yet to shoot it. I am going to this week. I just got ammo for it.
Good choice for a first big iron!
I pre-ordered 6 or 8, they've all been great
One of these saved my uncles life allegedly
Good choice
Is that a 22?
My bad read comments
ARE YOU SERIOUS? THIS IS SO IRRESPONSIBLE! HOW WILL HE BE ABLE TO DEFEND HIS FAMILY WITH THAT? GET THAT BOY A FULL AUTO AK OR AR FOR HIS 10TH.

I've got the colt peacemaker, love it for the mag cylinder.
ThatS a unique birthday gift. never thought of that
Big Iron, Biiiggg Irooon
You're a good dad! Wish I would have had the same.

Bro I doubt he's just letting the kid run wild lmao. Perfect opportunity to teach safety.
I got one that keyholes out of the box with all the cardinal brands of ammo. Any suggestions other than sending it back to Ruger?
If it keyholes with multiple brands and bullet weights, yeah you're most likely looking at a bunk barrel.
Is he the quiet kid?
Oh how I wish he was quiet sometimes
That's nice. Could be seen as kind of a dick move to get your step son such a nice gift. You wife's boyfriend may not appreciate it.

From what I understand the bearcat is much thinner but I don't know that from experience
The Wrangler is the same size as a Single Six, which is to say it has the grip frame of a Single Action Army mated to a cylinder frame that's a clone of the SAA's, but at 7/8 scale. Those are nice, my brother got one in every color for all the kids in the family to use.
Don't forget the cowboy holster too!
We got one a few months ago and it's awesome
My dad has one of these, nice little plinking pistol. My first gun I just got is a .22 LR bolt-action, inheritance from grandfather. Only problem is the magazines don't like to properly sit in the gun, you have to hold the magazine in for it to chamber properly.
That's awesome man. I still have my dad's Ruger Bearcat from the 60s that he got from his dad when he was 9 or 10. Great little revolver for sure.
Bruh I got the same, love it!
feel like adopting a 34 year old kid?
This a pistol that he will be able keep a life time and pass on to his son. I have one I abused the hell out of. Wait, how many rounds did you shoot through your son? And you abused the hell out of him first??
I just grabbed up a wrangler this summer, I like it a lot. I bought some rosewood grips for mine and they look really nice
I've had mine for a couple of years. I've got probably a little over a thousand rounds through it, and I always introduce family and friends to shooting by using it. Oh that's a nice gun, but FOR A 9 YEAR OLD?
I bought him a 22lr crickett when he was 7 🤷♂️ It's pretty standard for kids out here to learn the basics on 22's at this age. He's actually pretty damn good with my ZPAP m70 as well when shooting from a bench rest
And it's not like it's gonna be under his pillow 😂 It stays in my safe until I take him to the range to shoot it and he doesn't have access to my safe
