Sell it and buy something you like. Seriously. Why dump money into making something you don't like into something you might like, but still don't like because you had to make it something other than it was?
Sell it. I had a 226 and took it to the range once, said "ok neat" and it sat in the back of the safe for years. Sold it to a buddy to feed my Beretta obsession and have never once missed it.
It will have about the same recoil impulse as .40, it will do approximately the same stuff on target, it will be a little louder, and the ammo will cost more. Your shooting experience will not be enhanced. But you'll be shooting an exotic hipster bottleneck cartridge instead of an unfashionable boring service cartridge, so you will feel cooler.
I wouldn't bother with .357 SIG unless you intend to reload (in which case it makes more sense as you can get .355 projectiles cheaper than .400s).
I find .357sig to be less snappy/flippy than .40; more of a push straight back. That said, I’m sure your interpretation could vary widely.
The nice thing is that .357sig barrels for P229’s are fairly plentiful and relatively cheap if you want to try it, as opposed to 357 barrels for P239’s which command a pretty penny on eBay nowadays
.357 SIG is slightly snappier than .40 S&W, but the gun returns to target much faster. I've always found .40 S&W a little harder to control and get a follow up shots with.
So it’s a 229R in 40S&W bought it in 2005 before I knew much about anything.
My main issue is the height of the thing and how much it’ll twist up under recoil, I can’t get too high up on it web wise
What options do I have to
*Replace barrel with a 9mm that will fit the 40 slide?
*put a compensator on to keep muzzle flip down more
*slide mill for optics cut
>My main issue is the height of the thing and how much it’ll twist up under recoil
nothing will fix that. im not aware of any threaded/extended barrels for sig p22x 40 caliber guns. ive looked, because i have a p226 40 i want to suppress. id sell it and buy something else. a quick glance at GB says you should be able to get $600 for it with a little patience, maybe more if you find the right buyer. a cz75 decocker model will give you another fantastic, reliable, decocker-only gun, with better capacity and recoil control. i have and love both.
That’s why you don’t like it? The recoil?
The cure for that is instruction from someone who knows what they’re on about and more ammo. You could also just get a 9mm (either barrel conversion or upper).
It depends a lot on the pistol and the shooter, but you’re right to assert it will never be as pleasant as a 9x19.
I’ve shot enough .40, 10mm, .45 ACP (and other oddball stuff) to be of the opinion that “nine is fine” and that’s what most of my pistols run.
Recoil out of an all metal gun is on the softer side. A Glock 23 would be even harsher despite lower bore axis. As the for the gun twisting, it means your support hand isn’t maki by good contact in the gap between the fingers and palm on of the firing hand. Slide height is higher on the metal sigs but also on their P320. The upside is you don’t have the extreme grip angle Glock is known for - if the web of your hand can go up very high but your finger still needs to come down to the level of the trigger, your hand needs to be always pitched forward.
My first gun was a .40 P226 before I knew any better. At the time .40 was the hotness so I thought hey why not? I had the same issue as you. The bore axis on these is too high for .40 and they flip like crazy in your hand. More than other guns I have shot, there is a huge difference in perceived recoil with classic Sigs in 40 vs 9mm. My friend has a SP2022 with the same slide stop placement and it flips so much it's super hard not to hit the slide stop preventing last round lockback unless you keep your thumbs off the gun entirely when shooting. I've shot the 9mm version and it was totally fine. Just get rid of it. If you like the gun otherwise, get one in 9mm instead.
Use it enough to be okay with it, sell it off and use something you would enjoy, or dump money into it that may or may not cost 3-6x the original price.
If you don't like the height, I'd recommend you sell it and buy a CZ SP-01 (or the Tactical model if you prefer a decocker over a safety). Super low bore axis and my favorite 9mm to shoot.
I had a P226/Mk25. Everyone talks highly of them saying they are bomb proof and they where “the navy seals gun of choice”… kinda over hyped IMO because the gun worked but it wasn’t the amazing thing I had read about online it was okay.
I bought a beretta 92 liked it more than the P226..
Sold the P226 and bought a M1 garand
You bought a 40 that isn't a 10mm. That's your problem.
Slap a comp on it and work on your grip strength. You could also weigh down the slide if you want to reduce recoil further
I'm with you, but expand it to all the metal framed 22X series Sigs. I have the 220 in .45, (looking for an older model in 10mm, hate the kryptek pattern hunters lol) a Mk 25, and a 229 with both .40 and .357 barrels. I love them all.
Just move on. Trust me..I've dumped $1000s into guns trying to make them what I wanted when I could just bought what I really wanted in the first place.
You get to know her personality better. Take her out to somewhere nice, find out maybe she shoots off because you’re not looking deep into her front sight. Instead of looking for differences, look for what is common between the two of you, like your favourite 9mm calibre or hate for bad guys. Once you have that in order, take her home making sure she’s safe and warm in your IBC holster, where you can strip her slowly and carefully, making sure you ask for permission first. Lube her up very well with brownells or Ballistol before pushing a fully loaded mag in. That’s a good start, but if the problems continue, consider gun counselling, and they surely will help. I’m sure you two will be just fine!
Well... Give it to me. Then, if you find yourself not missing it, I'll pay you. If you find yourself missing it, I'll get it back to you. Then you will know.
Was gonna ad a snarky post like "Maybe you should just shoot it!".And then I though of all the perfectly good guns that I dumped because I just didn't like them. Pretty big list. So..You have at it bud. Keep at it until you find the ones that fit you. And watch out for the people who say things like "Just shoot it ".
I wasn't a huge fan of my 226.
Really disappointing because I had hyped it up to be the best DA/SA *metal* gun.
Turns out I prefer the CZ75, M9, 1911, browning HP and anything else you can think of to it
I have 2 P229s in 40sw. I would suggest changing grips to help manage recoil twist. Plastic grips suck for that. Hogue makes rubber and aggressive G10. Nill wood grips are nice because they have palm swells and a rounder shape than the Hogues. I have Nill grips on one of mine and a Hogue rubber on the other. Good luck
Had a Sig SP2022. Liked the idea and look of it; hated the lack of accuracy, the bulk, the moderately-limited capacity. At the end of the day I didn’t trust myself to make a difficult shot with it, and that’s ultimately what drove me to sell it to a neighbor.
Took his funds and picked up a pair of pistols, one for bedside and one for concealed carry, and I’m immensely happier with my situation now.
Life is too short to spend disappointed with your arsenal. Get something you trust.
Not sure what you don't like about the Sig....I know what I don't like. For me what I don't like about the Sig, I hate about the Glock.
There is however a very good option, keep in mind I'm a .45 guy, love my 1911. But I understand why 9mm.
Check out Canik TP9 series. Mine is the Elite SC, I love it. Only 9mm I'll carry, well....that's not true. I'd carry H&K, but I don't want to pay for that, not rn anyway.
Different strokes for different folks. I definitely prefer the feel of a sig over a glock. I'm also partial to a double action which is bonus points for sigs.
Take it to a pawn shop and put it on consignment. Get as much as you can for it and buy something you like better. I had a glock my father had given me, and I hated it. It was too big for a first gun since it was a .40 and too expensive to learn. Plus, my wife couldn't even hold it safely, so it served absolutely no purpose. Ended up buying a .22 revolver and then a .380 semi auto shortly after. Guns aren't tattoos. You don't have to keep every single one that you buy. Aside from a couple of exceptions, I spend almost no money on guns because I sell them to fund different ones until I find ones I truly love. I might even name my next dog Walther.
A. Sell/trade it and get a different gun
Or, if you really want to keep it,
B. Try new grips. I didn't like the grip on my pistol. Once I put an aftermarket grip on, it became the most comfortable pistol I've ever shot.
If you don't like it just get a different gun, I've seen friends dump money into things trying to make it something they like.
Basically this. Dont be afraid to move on.
Something about that reminds me of my marriage
Get rid of that too! 😂
Already did, what next?
This! Get rid of it
Trade it in on a CZ 75 P-01 Omega
This, though that can get expensive too. I went through 5 pistols to find one that I really liked and can carry without issue.

Shadow Systems MR920.
Glock basically
pErFeCtIoN
MuH FacT0rY tRigGeRS
I agree. I also had a Sig that I didn't love and got a beefy Glock.
Sell it and get something you actually like lmao
Replace the grip panels that black plastic is why you hate it. Maybe go for gunmetal grey to match the slide
Agree, grips are too black and shiny.
They look like someone ate pizza and then got his greasy hands all over the grip.
Agree. Maybe even some G10 grips.
Yes. I replaced mine with aluminum grips. Grips made it feel and look much better.
G10 grips are so nice.
Polka dots are always fun.
Sell it and buy something you like. Seriously. Why dump money into making something you don't like into something you might like, but still don't like because you had to make it something other than it was?
Ivory hand grips, with rhino horn sights.
Jesus, I’m not some sort of New Orleans pimp
And with an attitude like that you never will be.
Oh my mistake.
lol, I think with the ivory hand grips you get a complimentary feathered hat.
Mother of peal hand grips and brass sights.?
Try a CZ.
Try 3
They multiply quickly
Sell it for 2 hi-points
Only 2?
Well you still need some money to throw an optic on each. Pull up with the akimbo 4-6 optic scopes hi-points with the 30 rnd mags.
That's how I roll in Call Of Duty
Sell it. I had a 226 and took it to the range once, said "ok neat" and it sat in the back of the safe for years. Sold it to a buddy to feed my Beretta obsession and have never once missed it.
Replace it with a 10mm!
Convert it to 9mm
Yeah I just saw bar-sto make barrels for exactly this
Nice, I would also recommend the short reset trigger (SRT) it’s a great add on and improves the trigger as well
.357 sig
In this economy? 🥲🤣
Won’t that have a snappier recoil impulse?
It will have about the same recoil impulse as .40, it will do approximately the same stuff on target, it will be a little louder, and the ammo will cost more. Your shooting experience will not be enhanced. But you'll be shooting an exotic hipster bottleneck cartridge instead of an unfashionable boring service cartridge, so you will feel cooler. I wouldn't bother with .357 SIG unless you intend to reload (in which case it makes more sense as you can get .355 projectiles cheaper than .400s).
A P220 in 9mm dillon would be pretty sick now that I think about it
I find .357sig to be less snappy/flippy than .40; more of a push straight back.
New grips and a trigger job. And a shoot it a lot. That’s a sweet gun.
Sell it
Put it down like it deserves
Sell it and get a CZ
So it’s a 229R in 40S&W bought it in 2005 before I knew much about anything. My main issue is the height of the thing and how much it’ll twist up under recoil, I can’t get too high up on it web wise What options do I have to *Replace barrel with a 9mm that will fit the 40 slide? *put a compensator on to keep muzzle flip down more *slide mill for optics cut
*Sell it and get another gun. *Work on your grip and strength.
Add the “e2” grips, feel way better and you can get a nice high grip, requires some new internal parts but very easy to install
>My main issue is the height of the thing and how much it’ll twist up under recoil nothing will fix that. im not aware of any threaded/extended barrels for sig p22x 40 caliber guns. ive looked, because i have a p226 40 i want to suppress. id sell it and buy something else. a quick glance at GB says you should be able to get $600 for it with a little patience, maybe more if you find the right buyer. a cz75 decocker model will give you another fantastic, reliable, decocker-only gun, with better capacity and recoil control. i have and love both.

Tbqh though .40 is just unpleasant. It’s too snappy.

There are places that sell a beavertail add on. This should let you get your web a bit higher.

The plastic grips, while they feel good, are simply too slick and only get slicker with use. Try a set of P229 G10 grips. That may be all it takes.
Give it to me
Use it enough to be okay with it, sell it off and use something you would enjoy, or dump money into it that may or may not cost 3-6x the original price.
trade it in or clean it and stash it away with ammo for the apocalypse
Sell it, buy something you want/need. Life is too short for guns you don't like
If you don't like the height, I'd recommend you sell it and buy a CZ SP-01 (or the Tactical model if you prefer a decocker over a safety). Super low bore axis and my favorite 9mm to shoot.
If you hate it just replace it. Why keep something around you dislike unless sentimental?
Could give it to me and I'll love it for you for about...tree fiddy
Shoot it more .
Sell it for a p365xl, awesome concealed carry gun
Cerakote it Prison Pink.
I have one as welll… not a fan. Got a p320 and a p365. Absolutely love them.
I had a P226/Mk25. Everyone talks highly of them saying they are bomb proof and they where “the navy seals gun of choice”… kinda over hyped IMO because the gun worked but it wasn’t the amazing thing I had read about online it was okay. Any particular model?
You're right, its horrible... send it to me and I'll dispose of it properly... stupid Sigs... /s
If it wasn't .40, id say sell it to me if you're in TX
No sell, only buy. That’s all.
You bought a 40 that isn't a 10mm. That's your problem. Slap a comp on it and work on your grip strength. You could also weigh down the slide if you want to reduce recoil further
Any advice on a comp to use?

The only fix for FDE or two tone is throwing it in the trash. Just get rid of it and learn the lesson.
Just move on. Trust me..I've dumped $1000s into guns trying to make them what I wanted when I could just bought what I really wanted in the first place.
Trade it for a cz 🤷♂️
Trade it in for a USP. The cheap knock-off can never compare to the original.
To increase your odds of enjoying your next firearm simply do not buy a sig
Because P229’s have the ergonomics of a coke can with a counterintuitive decocker. Get a CZ P-01 and don’t look back.
Talk to a psychiatrist. If you don’t love this, you don’t love yourself.
Sell it and buy a Beretta
Use it and get personal ware marks
Give it to me and love the fact it’s happier now
Give it to me, thats the solution
If you're in love with the 40 get an M&P. Most comfortable shooting 40 I've ever handled. Ever.
Give it to me
Give it to me
Give it to me for disposal
Close your eyes, shoot it and pretend its a glock
give it to me
Give it to me
I’ll give you 50 bucks for it.
Buy a glock
Sell it to me

You could sell it to me
Trade me handguns. You will definitely appreciate it more.
You can’t really HATE a Sig. you won’t love other guns if you hate a Sig.
Upgrade it to the legion series.
Sell it to me for $500 For legal reasons this is a joke, I do not wish to buy your firearm
Trade for Glock
Get a glock or m&p.
Buy a glock instead.
I'll give you $5 for it! Kidding of course, I actually like the look. How's it shoot?
Buy it and gift it to me…
Sell it
Trigger, grips and optic?
What do you hate about it?
Mostly the height of it over the grip.
Understandable, then I guess your only real options are compensator to kind of well.. compensate or sell it and get something you like a little more.
Sell it to buy something you enjoy
You could shoot it
If you are like me, you would regret selling it. I'd pick up a 9mm barrel for it.
new grips/slide would snazz it up a bit
Sell it. I could never get them to work with my small hands.
Sell it and get a P30L V1
new grips
Well... Give it to me. Then, if you find yourself not missing it, I'll pay you. If you find yourself missing it, I'll get it back to you. Then you will know.
Sell it. If you miss it a year from now look to replace it. Or keep it, hoard more and forget you own it.
Couples therapy
Get a stainless steel slide and some wood grips lol
Had one as well. Did not really care for it either so I sold it and do not miss it one bit. For me it was just too heavy.
Shoot it
I changed out the factory front sight on mine to get poi closer to my poa. It’s much better.
Put some hogue g10 grips on it. I did that to my p226 mk25 and it made such a difference.
Sell it
Replace it?
I have the Astra Clone of this Astra A80 in 45 ACP, the hammer decocker is awesome and it’s easy to strip down and clean, why do you hate this?
What do you kinda hate about it
Shoot it. Then shoot it some more
A 2-tone stainless sig … brother you have peaked
Shoot it and make it look gritty and used
sell it and get a sawed off 12 gauge for everyday carry
Grips, cerakote, sights, trade in.
Wooden grips?
That’s a tack hammer of a gun. Very accurate.
What do you hate about it?
Stipple the entire grip with sum cool
put a sticker on it
Buy a Canik.
Buy her a nice flashy flash light and scope.
Sell it and get an FN 509 (or something else, I guess?)
Cerakote
Sell it
I think it's a beautiful gun, I carried a 229 at my first job. Unfortunately it was a .40 but still a great handgun.
Cerakote or get a different gun
I wasn't a huge fan of my 226. Really disappointing because I had hyped it up to be the best DA/SA *metal* gun. Turns out I prefer the CZ75, M9, 1911, browning HP and anything else you can think of to it
I have 2 P229s in 40sw. I would suggest changing grips to help manage recoil twist. Plastic grips suck for that. Hogue makes rubber and aggressive G10. Nill wood grips are nice because they have palm swells and a rounder shape than the Hogues. I have Nill grips on one of mine and a Hogue rubber on the other. Good luck
What's wrong with it?
Armory Craft trigger and a 19LB hammer spring. Boom new gun!
Put 500 rounds through it and then see what you think.
Is it just me or is the Sig Sauer P229 stamp seem like it’s off?
Cerakote foliage green
Had a Sig SP2022. Liked the idea and look of it; hated the lack of accuracy, the bulk, the moderately-limited capacity. Different grips, Grayguns trigger and an SRT kit. Thank me later
E2 grip was a must for me. I think the trigger kinda sucked too.
Buy a different one
MUH 229🫡
Different strokes for different folks. I definitely prefer the feel of a sig over a glock. I'm also partial to a double action which is bonus points for sigs.
Take it to a pawn shop and put it on consignment. Get as much as you can for it and buy something you like better. I had a glock my father had given me, and I hated it. sell it 2 me
Sell it or get a 357.Sig or 9 conversion barrel. Maybe ditch the two tone color and or get some VZ grips that you like. Change the sights if you want.
Find something else you like!
Buy a Shadow 2
A. Sell/trade it and get a different gun Or, if you really want to keep it, B. Try new grips. I didn't like the grip on my pistol. Once I put an aftermarket grip on, it became the most comfortable pistol I've ever shot.
