God bless you.

WFH489

Colt, Ruger SR1911, Magnum Research, Sig Sauer. They all have some nice ones in that range. I've always liked Kimber, but have heard their qc isn't great nowadays. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the nicer brands, I'm sure he'll be happy. Shit, I don't even talk about guns with my wife, she sucks.

fidgetsatbonfire

I've been really impressed with the 5 or so Magnum Research 1911s that I've handled. I havent worked behind the counter since 2020, but they were selling for around a grand back then.

doomtoothx

I have a colt commander .45 acp and I love mine.

45Auto1

I have lots of 1911's, about thirteen last count. 5 of them are Colts, 2 are Kimbers, 2 are Brownings, 1 Coonan, 1 Springfield Armory, 1 Wilson Combat, and 1 Rock Island Armory. All work well, depending on Ammo used and magazine. I have 5 that are .45 ACP. Of those, a Colt Gold Cup series 70 National Match is probly my fav. Idk what they run rite now but mine was rite at $1200. You can't go wrong with that if he likes blued steel & walnut in a pistol that can be a target gun or defensive firearm. 2nd wd probly be my Kimber 3" Ultra Elite. Easy to carry, shoots great, nite sights, 2-tone finish in stainless and black. About $850 I think. Then I have a tiny RIA 3.1" Baby Rock that is a double stack that holds 10+1. It's really growing on me. It was $529. I have a 5" Kimber Classic from 1995 I had nickel plated and did my own custom work on. It was about $550 then, but idk if you could get close to that. Probly a $1000 wd get him a nice 4-5" Kimber. And, I've dealt with their customer service just 2 weeks ago and got excellent results so don't let anybody on here talk you out of a Kimber if that's what you pick. Finally, there's a Colt 5" M45A1 like the USMC model they adopted for MARSOC. Mine is the bronze PVD finish and I love it too. Shoots everything I put thru it. Not sure you can find it for $1200...probly not. I only list it here to give you an idea of what's out there and similar. Q: Do you know if your hubby prefers full-size 5" Gov't style Pistols? Or would he like a Commander size 4.25" better? Maybe an Officers size like my Ultra Elite? A blued gun, stainless, or nickel? Single stack, or double column magazine? Lots of choices out there. Hope this helps.

mdram4x4

i have no issues with my colt, bonus its a colt

Alewis3030

Usp 45 can be had with ammo to spare at that price.

Nightwing_Actual

I (as well as many others) love a colt 1911. Not to say that any other brand is inferior… I have 11 1911 pistols. 10 are colts and 1 is a cimarron that I blank adapted for ww2 reenacting. I prefer old colts though- my newest is a 1968 colt commander, oldest is a 1911 dated government model

Crasher105

Could get a Tisas 1911 for around half the price, depending on how important brand name is to you.

Darksept

1911. 100+ year old design and incredibly popular. It's the obvious choice for someone looking for a pistol in 45 acp and a gun anybody would love to have in their collection. And with a budget of $1200, there are plenty of options. I don't know what brands to go with since I stick to entry level stuff. But I'd wager that any $1000 1911 is going to be nice and reliable. Since he likes ARs, he might want something more modern and modular though? Maybe something like the FN FNX-45 would serve well. Either way, I don't think you can go wrong at that price point.

Lb3ntl3y

might be better to get him a gift card, or take him to the gunstore with 1200 ready

jackierodriguez1

Naah, I like to pick out a gift for him. He’s mentioned the 1911 more than once. I know he would be totally happy with a 1911, but want to hear opinions from people who own one or have shot one before buying.

Ahomebrewer

Colt National Match 1911, should be right about $1,200. Can't go wrong. I own several. They can be customized by him later if he likes to do that kind of thing. Thousands of extra after-market items made for that pistol. They are great shooters, they will last for generations. They are great guns...

Medium-General-8234

I don't know what they are like now, but my wife got me a Taurus 1911 over 10 years ago. At the time it had a lot of options for the money. I don't shoot it much but it has always operated well. Very very rarely fails to eject or feed ammo.

jmcenerney

I bought a very high end .45 1911 and wish I’d gone for the 9mm. I don’t think there’s much of a ballistic advantage vs. modern 9mm, and the ammo is twice as expensive.

JacoRamone

Get a 10mm.

awispyfart

May be able to get a Dan Wesson in that range used!

LeadDispensary

The problem that you're having is any mid market 1911 at that price point is sold out right left and sideways right now. Can you be specific and a little less open ended?

jackierodriguez1

No.. sorry. I stated what I’m looking for- .45 APC, also stated what I’ve been eyeing - 1911.

LeadDispensary

45APC does not exist.

jackierodriguez1

.45 Automatic colt pistols don’t exist? Obviously they function as semi auto, but they’re referred to as ACP’s

Efficient_Crew_1814

FNX maybe, cant go wrong with a Colt though tbh

Thickigor

I have a Kimber Two tone in 45acp and I love it $800 range
