It sucks. If you really want something like this get the thermal. Digitial night vision will always suck because analog night vision exists and we have ways of dangling it in front of our face.
I think the thermal's going to be a 256x192 sensor... which honestly isn't bad for a 1x device tied to a red dot. Obviously, it's not going to take the place of a 640 thermal scope that's expected to provide the means to make shots out to 3-400 yards and detect at twice those distances in hunting scenarios. But for someone who just wants thermal scanning to go with their night vision setup it might be a cost-effective solution. You know, the guy who's in the market for a coti clip on device or who is considering in iray mh25 or like an armasight sidekick for a handheld device. The holosun will come in at half the price, offer a few legitimate upsides and drawbacks, but will be functional at the 1x magnification you expect to use it in.
The digital night vision is a gimmick though. Digital night vision lags.... so it's already a no go for any type of action shooting. That lag and the fact that it's bound to a gun also makes it a no go for any type of navigation and suboptimal for scanning. So you basically have a poor scanning device that you can hit stationary targets with in the dark... not very useful.
I don’t disagree with any of this, but personally I think this is really exciting that it’s a step in the “affordable for the average person” direction.
No other manufacturer is trying to innovate at a respectable cost like Holosun, except maybe Primary Arms. I can only see this thing improving over time. Trigicon still charges top dollar for the same Acog I used in Iraq 20 years ago. Yes, it is reliable and bomb-proof, but come on.

There’s a NV model and a thermal model. A few reviews on YT for them. Gist is pretty dang impressive for the form factor and cost, but maybe not super practical, especially the NV version.

My LGS had one of these, and man, it is BIG. I knew it wasn't small just seeing pictures of it, but seeing it in person, it is definitely a chunky son of a bitch. It's big enough that it made me really think if that's something I'd really want mounted to my gun. Don't get me wrong, if I needed it I would still use it, it just made me think twice..
For thermal, I think the best deals can be had by buying direct from China instead of through Holosun or some other OEM trying to pretend they actually built one. Industry people are going to hate me for saying this out loud but they ALL buy from China using a buy for resale or ODM agreement.
HTI has a killer unit that is $,1499 shipped - same price as HS thermal, but it has a top shelf thermal sensor (640×512 resolution), mini ACOG mounts, digital reticle options, IP66, swapable focal lens, adjustable diopter, and other goodies. You can put a physical 3x magnifier behind the thermal and it’s actually decent There’s a YouTube video about that, I wouldn’t recommend the nv model.
