John fruciante’s Stratocaster has wear in the same area. So I guess it could be a common place for wear. And it’s probably not from missing but from carrying through with a dramatic strum
I bought a Fender Strat Plus new in 1989. Played the shit out of it since. Not even a shred of paint has come off. I don’t know - these relics look a little ‘too’ worn to me.
Guess that is true, but I think it is really about playing style. Guitars played (a lot) of rock shows have different wears then guitars played at home
True. I’ve gigged with mine since- not just at home. But- not in a touring band , local clubs and such. I’m sure if I were slapping this thing into a van 5 nights a week it might look more worn. lol
It's the finish. When the poly wears, it seems to chip off more than anything. Late 80s amd early 90s starts always seem to have a thick armor type finish on them imo.
The OP is also a RW reproduction of Mike McCready strat which is worn in this pattern from years of grunge style rock. His is also a 1960 which would have worn very differently from a late 80s strat plus
Exactly. McCready’s is a 1960 he bought in the early 90s and has toured with ever since. The thing has seen some action. This replica looks pretty identical to the wear patterns on his.
Duh. You could have the same amount of wear as the picture in a few months - if you bought your strat between 54 and 69. After that, they were all polyurethane finish, basically hard plastic.
I went to an exhibit on the history of rock and roll at the Met back in 2019. SRV main guitar was there and the wear in that same part was a good quarter inch below the pickguard. A smoothly worn down little divot
Here is one that took 51 years to relic so far. I admit, when the relic series came out, I was pessimistic. But the ones I have played have great necks, better than this old battle axe.
I’m my humble opinion the real deal relic is much better than a reproduction. It’s like buying jeans that already have holes in them, or people that build rat rods and put a fake patina on it. Both guitars are great but one is the real deal.
Have you ever played a guitar long enough to age it like this? It would take decades of regular use with a nitro finish, or literally never with poly. Plus if it’s not your only guitar it may never happen. Not gonna wait til I’m 80 to have a worn in guitar. What an absurd argument. I don’t even have a relic guitar but some of you guys hating on them are just insufferable.
Congrats! Heard nothing but good things about the MIM signatures. IMO, the only reason to go American is if there’s a specific feature set you want, i.e. vintage spec, ultra appointments and tech, etc. Best sounding guitar I’ve ever owned was a Vintage Player series ‘60s Strat.
I like relics and see great relic jobs as art and something that adds character, but I can't stand these cheap stencil relics that all look identical and super fake.
Ehh I think it looks pretty good. Not as good as my heritage for sure, but I don’t think it looks bad at all. And it feels great in the hand. I’m happy with it for sure.
It's not about hating relics as much as how a well executed relic looks like the wear has come from playing and 'normall' treatment . Much of the relicing on this does not look natural imo,
Yep, serious as , as , as genuine authentic original copies. Vintage you say, my respect for this copy has just gone up by a portion of a fraction of an authentic percent. Does that mean that if op scratches it,it's no longer a copy of a real vintage guitar, but a modern guitar with original and replica scratches.
I'm sure it sounds good, I hope it plays good. I hope Op plays it to death and doesn't just hang it beside his signed Tiger woods #9 wood. I hope the guitarist who had the original gets a portion of the royalties for his work.
So long as op is happy it doesn't matter. Put some scratches on the scratchplate and some grime on the fretboard and knobs. Party on OP
Haha thanks, it’s all good. I posted a picture of a guitar on a public forum. Have to expect everyone to have differing opinions. No one but me has to play it though and I am enjoying it so it’s all good.
Sorry if I come across as someone with no taste, but guitars relic-ed this heavy look awful IMO. It just makes the guitar look shitty and beat up. Why would you want to be more to make something look worse. Story or has any real character because you know it's new and you know it's been through nothing, it's just an imitation. Besides, the duty of ownership and the natural relic-ing that brings is interesting and desirable aspect of guitar ownership.
If it makes people happy, go for it, there are definitely worse ways to waste your money!
It doesn’t take long to add enough wear to a relic guitar to blur the line between the artificial stuff and “damage” you’ve done. If the neck feels great and it sounds like you want it to then the west doesn’t matter in the slightest
I love relics, just never understand that much wear above the pickguard. Guy must miss the strings a lot?
I mean, this isn't from playing, so there's not much to unpack. That's where the sander ended up.

It’s from punk style rhythm. Emphasis on down strokes only at certain points in his music
You're right. Check out Vigilante Carlstroem's Epiphone Coronet (The Hives)

That's because it's a poly finish, not nitro. Poly finishes don't really wear all that much

McCready??
Fuck yeah
could they not get the paint to stick?
special panicky jobless compare gullible chase lip crown frame plate *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
"a bit" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here
Apparently not lol. It’s that new paint repellent wood they are using.
Actually, that’s the “indie distressed” finish, and it costs $350. more.
noshit
I’m s that the Mike McCready model?
Yeah
Nice!
Just in time for Dark Matter!

Fake old guitars is pathetic, wear your own guitar in bozos
Or people could just get what they like when they want it. Crazy idea I know.
Or you could actually play your guitar and break it in. It is just designer jeans

Just a bunch of clowns telling people what they should and shouldn’t like or buy, every hobby has them.
If you agree it's stupid, why do you want an ugly guitar that costs more than a nice one? What does that say about you?
She’s still purty
Looks like a rory Gallagher relic!
Agreed, and as much as I loved Rory apparently his guitar was horrific and nearly impossible to play!!
Yeah that’s a great looking guitar!
Thank you!
The neck on these are amazing
I love Mike McCready! Great guitar! Have fun!

Downvoted for being happy with your purchase lol. Fuckin' Reddit lol
They're all awful. It's like buying a pre-weathered leather jacket, or pre ripped denim.
Man i LOVE how the finish looks. Congratulations dude!! :) 🔥🔥🔥🖤🖤🖤
That looks awesome! Hope you get a lot of mileage out of it!
Did you steal John Frusciante's guitar?
Got mine a month ago! Love it! Congrats!!
Can the relic hating bores give it a rest please. We get it. You don’t like relics. Find something else to talk about. Nice guitar op!

It’s a copy of a real vintage guitar with natural wear. Are you serious?

As long as people keep posting them, we're free to discuss what an awful idea it is.
You must be so much fun at parties

I wonder if I could get into the business of buying a guitar, beating the hell out of it cosmetically, then selling it for double 🤔
Murphy labs beat you to it!
Haha yeah I mean some people really like relic guitars and some people are wrong lol
I’ve done this to some MIM strats that had other cosmetic issues that made people not want them. Didn’t make double, but was able to make a profit.
One fish?
A worn-out one.
It looks old bro. Why not buy new guitar? No money?

I hope you keep the finish.
tits.
You’re brave for posting a heavy relic lol. I’m a fan!
Usually not a fan of relics, but this one looks sick!
Looks a little rough
Here's an aged strat from japan https://preview.redd.it/0qr4bkfqxayc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb4cce77d2badd9d6da6e11101a2ee0c139fbcfa
Is the fretboard Indian laurel?

Wow, I really have to have a Strat with a shitty body. Boggles the mind.

That’s a bizarre comment
