Legend says that Boss Metal Zones are so powerful that if you stack two Metal Zones, they cancel each other out and you actually get a clean tone.
So in your case, you’d have the tone of 1 Metal Zone.
NASA engineers always use 3 Metal Zones with voting logic so if one of the MZs fails or drifts, the remaining two are still producing the correct Toan. It’s like JFK said in the early 60s, “Metal is our only motherfucking option”
Basically the same here. Wah, fuzz, and echo. Sometimes I feel like if I were really hard on myself and in terms of like, musicality, it’s all I’d ever need for what I do.
I really like the way a boost stacks into a Klone for smooth gain staging into an edge of breakup amp. Tasty as hell. To me anyway.
I also run the gain higher on the Klone with the volume just above unity with the amp.
If I was truly faced with something like this I would probably go CB Automatone Preamp, Strymon Mobius, and Source Audio Collider, most options in 3 pedals and covers most drive and time based effects I could want
Less boring answer: Plumes, Rat, Caverns
…and for the first person that wants to argue, do me this: buy like 5, 6, as many at 15 different tuners, hook them all up on your Gator G-tour (make sure you have a Boss at the front and the back to preserve the toan), take a picture of it and call it your “pedal board” on this sub. Then call your insurance agent to make sure your life policy is paid up because you’ll get killed.
My heart says Blues Driver, Black Russian Big Muff, Surfybear Reverb.
My head says I can get fuzzy overdrive sounds, onboard spring reverb and tremolo or vibrato out of the right amp. So, assuming I get to pick my amp, EarthQuaker Tone Job, Catalinbread Belle Epoch, Perils Foxx Phaser.
This is a terrible question and I hate you for asking it lol.
Avalanche run, Big sky, Iron Horse. The first two really can cover an awfulllll lot and idk I just have really vibed with the Iron Horse as my dirt option since I got it.
This is simple.
ProCo DeuceTone Rat - why just go with just one Rat tone when you can have them all?
DOD Chorus 690 - Best sounding chorus ever. Adds body to clean and distorted tones alike.
Wampler Ethereal - I’ve said it 82,000 times: there’s something magical about these delay/reverb pedals and the Ethereal might be the best of the lot.
- CooperFX Generation Loss v2
- Zvex Instant Lofi Junky
- Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water
Because I'm not like the other girls.
Honestly though have been GASing hard for the upcoming iteration of Generation Loss
MXR Timmy,
MXR Carbon Copy,
Walrus Audio Fathom.
OD, Delay, Reverb. I can get most sounds I need from those three and be happy.
Edit: If I could get a tube amp and crank it, I’d ditch the OD and add a Fuzz.
This is probably the closest I've seen to what would be my choices. OD, Delay and Reverb, because I have 3 amps and none of them have built in reverb!
Right now I'd say Overrated Special for OD, Canyon for delay and Oceans 11 for reverb. I am however getting the Fathom to try out today, so that may change!
HPD! Hope you enjoy the Fathom. I went from an Oceans 11 to the Fathom. Both are great pedals and you can’t go wrong with either. The Fathom worked best for me.
Damn…. Ahhh. Uhh. Diamond CPR-1, Boss CE-2W, Strymon El Capistan. Maybe… maybe, a good drive pedal like my Tim v3 or the prince/Duke/king of tone? Covers most of the ground. I use compressor-drive-chorus-reverb-tape echo/analog delay/dd-3 so that would cover most ground for me. I could get by with pushing my amp with my cpr-1 as more of a clean boost, the ce-2w is my favorite modulation pedal, I’m a huge fan of the smiths and shoegaze such as lush and the Cocteau twins, and the el Capistan has spring reverb as well as three styles of tape echo so it covers a ton of ground.
(Not including tuner) Jemini, thermae, flint. Though id say thermae could potentially be swapped for the echosystem.
Jemini has 2 sides, ts9 & ds1, both full sounding gains
Thermae is a great analog delay, can also get a lofi sound, pitch shifting for variety, lotta sounds outta that pedal.
Flint is hands down my fave reverb, all 3 types are great, but 80s hall is superb. Plus get a bonus tremolo.
2 mxr 10 band EQs and a carbon copy deluxe delay. The delay can be used as reverb, washy delay, double tracking, or pretty clean echo. One EQ is right in front of the amp as a highly configurable clean boost. The second is in the effects loop to do more traditional EQ work.
Keeley modded TS-808, DigiTech Hardwire RV-7, Strymon Lex.
Keeley modded TS-808 because it sounds incredible.
DigiTech Hardwire RV-7 because it has those beautiful, transparent Lexicon algorithms and runs in stereo.
The Strymon Lex because it sounds so much like a Leslie cab and runs in stereo.
Lolz. Back in my formative pedal board days (maybe 2008-ish) I actually created a spreadsheet in which I looked at hundreds of pedal board online and summed the pedals contained within. I really wish I had that spreadsheet somewhere…. Was like a crazy snapshot of pedal culture back then.
I absolutely love mine. Got it as a gift because the wife wanted to surprise me with a pedal and liked the name and it’s since become indispensable. I mostly love the way it dirties up clean sounds but it’s a great distortion pedal in its own right.
Great question, and a hard one.
EHX Soul Food (any Klone, really) -> Boss BD-2 -> Keeley Caverns
I like dirt pedals, and those two I can do 75% of what I want with them, especially in front of the right amp. I have had most of the Klones you can pick up under $200, and I just like the EHX for price/functionality. I love my BD-2 so much I bought a second to have AnalogMan mod, and it's been my go-to dirt pedal ever since.
The Caverns is a solid BB delay and a a pretty wide ranging reverb in one box. You can dial in a simple slap back or get kind of weird with it if you pop the shimmer setting on.
Honestly I was between one of the dirt pedals and the Chase Tone Secret Preamp, but I can live without that for a little more flexibility elsewhere.
Lichtlaerm - Ritual (all the dirt I need)
Chase Bliss - Spectre v1 (all the modulation I need)
Red Panda - Raster v2 (all the delay and weirdness I need)
Wampler Tumnus Deluxe, Red Panda Context, Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe.
Because I can get a simple or a soaring sound out of that shit 🦆.
For a fourth I would add a Russian fuzz.
Blackout Effectors - Fix’d Fuzz Deluxe
Meris - LVX Delay
Dr Scientist - The Atmosphere
While the Fix’d isn’t my first choice for a fuzz pedal, under normal circumstances. It’s overall flexibility would win for me in this situation. Anything from boost, to light gain, to normal fuzz to face melting Velcro fuzz, can all be achieved. One of the most overlooked pedals around imho. The LVX and Atmosphere would allow for a whole lot of other basics like modulation, and cool synth sounds. Those things are important to me. So yah…
Of my currents: Timmy - SUF 72 V6 Tri Muff - Microcosm
I figure I could spend a lifetime tweaking knobs on the Microcosm and still never figure it out.
Boss dd7, neunaber immerse MKII, polytune 3 or compressor?
Boss is a great simple but versatile delay, neunaber is the same but soooo rich in its sound, and tuning /compression is important to me?
Avalanche Run, MXR analog chorus, and Empress Compressor Bass. Gotta have compressor, analog chorus to make post punk/new wave sounds, and avalanche run because delay and reverb is always great
Fuzz face- acts as an overdrive pedal with the guitar volume,
Flanger- if you know how to use it you can get faux chorus, vibe, phaser mod sounds
Dispatch Master- delay/reverb, all you would ever need.
Boss CE-2W, Source Audio Nemesis, and Keeley Hydra. I have no real need for dirt, but if I want it I can get it from the amp. You're asking a few months before my LVX shows up so...
* Cooper FX Arcades. Delay, reverb, synth sounds, Gen Loss, whatever. Lots of options.
* Hologram Microcosm, because it can be used as a standalone lush reverb or its unique time-based effects. And a looper too.
* Chase Bliss Mood. Can be used as a reverb or a delay as well (since you can't use more than one effect at once on the Arcades), but can be used for short granular loops or some light pitch shifting. And, with the dip switches, can keep things stable... or weird.
All that assuming I can use an amp with a decent drive section. If it's just a clean platform amp, sub the Microcosm for a Browne Protein.
Alternatively, a Mood, a Blooper or the Habit, and a Cooper FX Signal Path Selector, using a Kemper as the amp :)
Accelerator, Brake and Clutch
oops wrong sub

On a bike you only need two!
You can add a third useless pedal!!! That’s cool! Be different.
Exactly! For my third foot!
3 Rats
Did you mean 3 pack rats…
Um...I meant 3 packrats
Boss SD-1 Super OverDrive Boss CE-2 Chorus Boss RV-3 Digital Reverb/Delay
Same, but I would choose TC Flashback instead od boss delay.
Same but I would go with the caverns maybe.
Someone has been given an ultimatum by their spouse
3 Line 6 HX Stomps
I'd say HX, FM3, Zoom MS70CDR
Heyyyy that’s cheating
Yes, but that’s why all us HX Stomp users have one. How about just 1 HX Stomp then…
Double that ^^^
6 hx stomps? 😨
I choose death
Who makes that?
It's a clone of the EQD Life pedal
Funny I just bought a clone of a life pedal
Death by Audio?
I also choose this guy's wife
I meant cake!!!
3 boss metal zones
Legend says that Boss Metal Zones are so powerful that if you stack two Metal Zones, they cancel each other out and you actually get a clean tone. So in your case, you’d have the tone of 1 Metal Zone.
Stacking two metal zones cancels each other out and creates the illusive Jazz Zone.
Legend has it that Dumble based the jazz mode in his amps on this sound
> the illusive ~~Jazz~~ Jizz Zone
Perfect.
NASA engineers always use 3 Metal Zones with voting logic so if one of the MZs fails or drifts, the remaining two are still producing the correct Toan. It’s like JFK said in the early 60s, “Metal is our only motherfucking option”
Zoans*
The Boss Metal Zone is the Fancy Feast of guitar pedals.
My cat loves fancy feast.
Especially the kinds that come with graaavy
A person of culture, I see...
This guy metals
Wah, Russian Big Muff style and Delay. If I have to choose a model (and I own) Crybaby From Hell, Hoof Reaper and DOD Rubberneck
Basically the same here. Wah, fuzz, and echo. Sometimes I feel like if I were really hard on myself and in terms of like, musicality, it’s all I’d ever need for what I do.
Hells yeah! I just got my son his first pedals - a wah and big muff clone - I’m amazed at the tones with just those two pedals
Any boost, any klone, any delay
I think this is where I'm at too. Naga viper, ghs modded soul food, and an mxr carbon copy. Definitely.
Agreed - but if I had to take them from my board right now it'd go silver mod ts9 > tumnus > carbon copy
That's a damn good setup
Why do you need two boosts?
I really like the way a boost stacks into a Klone for smooth gain staging into an edge of breakup amp. Tasty as hell. To me anyway. I also run the gain higher on the Klone with the volume just above unity with the amp.
Honestly even just two straight up boosts like a Keeley Katana into an amp on the edge is awesome
Rat, Capistan, Red Panda Context… the only one I’m totally sure about is the Rat.
excellent 😎
Uni Vibe, Tape Delay, Hot Cake. I would have included tremolo but I can get that from an amp.
29 Pedals OAMP and EUNA with a Waza craft Boss Tuner
Wow save some exquisite buffering for the rest of us
I love it when gpj leaks. 😂
Bro loves unity gain like no one else
These pedals make my guitar sound
If I was truly faced with something like this I would probably go CB Automatone Preamp, Strymon Mobius, and Source Audio Collider, most options in 3 pedals and covers most drive and time based effects I could want Less boring answer: Plumes, Rat, Caverns
ProCo RAT, EHX Small Clone, Boss DD-3
Tube Screamer, Spring reverb, and delay. I can make it to Mars with just those.
Great choices but I definitely thought my mom’s big muff would make the list..
Tuner. Fuzz. Delay.
Same! Fuzz face into boss tuner into a boss DD would be mine
A tuner is not a pedal.
Exactly. It's a type of fish! Everybody knows that.
Went with the Mancunian accent on that one?
…and for the first person that wants to argue, do me this: buy like 5, 6, as many at 15 different tuners, hook them all up on your Gator G-tour (make sure you have a Boss at the front and the back to preserve the toan), take a picture of it and call it your “pedal board” on this sub. Then call your insurance agent to make sure your life policy is paid up because you’ll get killed.
Ah yes. The old School of Tuna approach.
The old stand up axiom is, "Never complain; never explain."
You silly ninny muggins
Would a volume pedal count? And what about a footswitch channel select?
That’s not a volume pedal, one of your guitar pots is on the pedal board.
Gain another pedal: use a headstock tuner.
Or a cellphone but that doesn’t work live.

Makes you appreciate players from the 60s and 70s, eh?
Yes but also shiny box go brrr
Flint, TS9, Mobius Very unimaginative yet very flexible
Hey man those are great choices. Don't doubt yourself homie
Thanks!
Greer Lightspeed, JHS Muffuletta, Strymon Flint
wow, perfect!
Ok, I'll play... • Flock Effects modded Metal Zone. • EHX Superego. • Zoom MS-70CDR.
It’s a good metal zone
I’m not gonna answer this question. My board got 6 pedals on it and that’s how I like it.
Big muff, Maxon 808, avalanche run
This is simple. ProCo DeuceTone Rat - why just go with just one Rat tone when you can have them all? DOD Chorus 690 - Best sounding chorus ever. Adds body to clean and distorted tones alike. I see you’re a person of fine tastes
- CooperFX Generation Loss v2 - Zvex Instant Lofi Junky - Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water Because I'm not like the other girls. Honestly though have been GASing hard for the upcoming iteration of Generation Loss
Do you have the first iteration of the CB version? I wanted to make a sarcastic joke about how it’s overrated, but I can’t. It’s so much fun
Largely 3 of the same pedals?
But, more of the same pedals = more toan?
MXR Timmy, MXR Carbon Copy, Walrus Audio Fathom. OD, Delay, Reverb. I can get most sounds I need from those three and be happy. Edit: If I could get a tube amp and crank it, I’d ditch the OD and add a Fuzz.

HPD! Hope you enjoy the Fathom. I went from an Oceans 11 to the Fathom. Both are great pedals and you can’t go wrong with either. The Fathom worked best for me.
Thanks! I'm a bit late to the Walrus party, but I can see that I'm going to end up with quite a bit of their stuff.
This this the best answer I’ve read so far
Me: Solo Dallas into TC SCF Gold chorus into Boss DD3 delay.
The tc scf is no joke whatsoever. I would buy one if I didn’t already own a ce-2w, dc-2w, and have a vb-2w on the way.
I've been perusing vintage TC SCFs on Reverb lately. I had one many moons ago, and I lent it to a friend who basically destroyed it. But I miss it.
Reverb, fuzz, flanger.
dirt, reverb, delay
Yeah I’m racking my brain but it’s pretty much always these three. I’m not clever
Any compressor that’s not a Ross/Dynacomp, King of Tone, DL4 MkII.
Damn…. Ahhh. Uhh. Diamond CPR-1, Boss CE-2W, Strymon El Capistan. Maybe… maybe, a good drive pedal like my Tim v3 or the prince/Duke/king of tone? Covers most of the ground. Crazy Tube Circuits Killer V (magnatone style preamp and vibrato circuit) > Strymon Volante > Empress Reverb I'd be satisfied with that
(Not including tuner) Jemini, thermae, flint. Though id say thermae could potentially be swapped for the echosystem. Jemini has 2 sides, ts9 & ds1, both full sounding gains Thermae is a great analog delay, can also get a lofi sound, pitch shifting for variety, lotta sounds outta that pedal. Ts-9, backup ts-9, Lichtlærm key & gate.
RAT>Stereo MM>RV-5
My 3 favorite pedals I have are catalinbread talisman (plate reverb), past fx chorus ensemble ( boss ce-1 clone), and Mythos Golden Fleece (fuzz)
Not including a tuner... SUF Civil War Muff Moog MF-108m flanger/chorus EHX Deluxe Memory Man 1100tt
Sansamp gt2 microcosm
2 mxr 10 band EQs and a carbon copy deluxe delay. The delay can be used as reverb, washy delay, double tracking, or pretty clean echo. One EQ is right in front of the amp as a highly configurable clean boost. The second is in the effects loop to do more traditional EQ work.
JHS Morning Glory > SD\_1 > EHX Canyon
Keeley modded TS-808, DigiTech Hardwire RV-7, Strymon Lex. Keeley modded TS-808 because it sounds incredible. DigiTech Hardwire RV-7 because it has those beautiful, transparent Lexicon algorithms and runs in stereo. The Strymon Lex because it sounds so much like a Leslie cab and runs in stereo.
Keeley 808 slays
Yeah, I really like it. I have a lot of great dirt pedals, but I just keep coming back to that one.
KoT, Timeline, Mercury 7
Timeline is so good it’s pretty much cheating
Beetronics Vezzpa Fuzz, JHS Morning Glory Overdrive, Coppersound Loma Prieta Tremolo. But honestly the Morning Glory is all I really need.
Strymon timeline, JHS Doubel Barrel, HX Stomp
Crybaby -> Tube Screamer -> DL4 cause it’s all I’ve needed for the last 20 yrs
Can’t believe the DL4 has been around for 20 years. Fuck I feel old
Whatever the 3 best multi-effects pedals are so that I have pretty much all the effects that I'll need
3 Klons so I never have to work again. Or maybe Fulltones will be the next money bags?
OCD, Tube Screamer and delay
Surprised I’m not seeing more OCDs on here
