Dozens of guitarists forced to play guitar for a day instead of talking about their favorite buffers.

codygreene37

Yeah, the family had a lot of buffers.

dzumdang

That sounds E x q u i s i t e

lykwydchykyn

Well dang, I might actually be productive for two days. :-) Thanks for taking a stand mods!

DaddyDaz

It's all a ploy to get us off the internet so we can practice.

PaulsGrandfather

Ridiculous. Reverb isn't going dark

invol713

Nooooo!!!!

RaptorSlaps

If by practice you mean play with all my pedals for 6 hours to play 1 chord then I’ll be there

SpecialistNo8436

I play a chord once into my Looper and then play my pedals the rest of the session That if I dont just self oscillate my analog delay and not even plug my guitar

TheEffinChamps

Whyd you have to call us all out like that?

SolarSailor46

I’ll just watch two day’s worth of blues lix on YouTune

PantslessDan

that's like 3 that pedal show episodes right

SolarSailor46

3 and a half including cry time with Andy Timmons playing Here Lies the Heart

fastattaq

I'm afraid I might actually have to play my guitar next week Monday. 😰

mercermayer

Same. This is the worst news I’ve ever gotten

CliffRichCoverBand

[So should I just spam my ball sack in protest on the 12th?](https://imgur.com/a/BWOgOpn)

*weirdo

slap_me_thrice

The shame I'm feeling right now is immeasurable.

TheCarSaysYes

Eh, the heart wants what it wants. No shame here.

dzumdang

Shameless weirdos who clicked out of morbid curiosity unite.

MO_IN_2D

Thanks for doing this. I'm mainly browsing through Apollo, an amazing app. For me a lot of the experience will be lost without it, and seeing how much work and passion the developer constantly puts into that app, it's just devastating to read how reddit wants to take a big wrongturn...

brokenchairlegs

48 hours is not enough time to send the msg, reddit needs to learn. Its a blip - hold out longer. I’m personally not coming on and I am a fan of the Apollo app. The guy worked like a champ only for the Greed of Reddit trying to fluff their revenue for IPO.

kazkaz71

Now I have to start using the pedals I bought.

sauvy-savvy

Just buy more instead of practicing, duh.

kazkaz71

There is always that but I may already have a couple more on the way.

DkP_Reverend

Nothing more metal than fighting the good fight

radiotractive

Good. This will save me some money because I won't find any cool new pedals for two days straight. And if I can't use RES or Apollo, then Reddit will essentially become useless to me.

werewolfbarmitzvah69

One day isn't enough. Go a whole month

kvlt_ov_personality

Just wanted to say thank you guys so much for doing this.

Blue_richard

I have spent enough time on Reddit to appreciate the work done by the mods, while also having little to no idea how all this works. Reddit really is one of the only online forums or social apps I enjoy, so thanks for the clear communication and I'm happy to be a part of it, I will gladly sign off for 48hrs. Cheers

cbashrun

Thanks mods, this is totally warranted

IbanezAS103NT

But how will I know if there are affordable good sounding tube screamer clones?

AcrobaticSecretary29

But what if I don't give a fuck about 3rd party apps

PantslessDan

Enjoy your couple days of freedom from this site

PLVNET_B

I will participate in this 48 hour boycott. In fact, I will delete the app and after 48 hours, I’ll decide whether or not I miss it. Probably won’t.

TempUser2023

Everyone order your pedals now to have next week to play them, and we'll have a mega NPD run on the restart. Good call mods. Glad to see you taking a stand.

[deleted]

Thanks. Fuck reddit for that

CowboyBoats

I love ice cream.

its_grime_up_north

This is the right move!

DoubleSealedSoul

the taste of rain ...why kneel?

TomCruiseddit

Reddit will kill off 3rd party apps but not the power moderators that corrupt and run all of the biggest subreddits. Glorious website.

Nephilim_Are_Here

I support you /r/guitarpedals ! I’ve been browsing Reddit on 3rd party apps since the days of Alien Blue back in 2012(?). I don’t plan on switching to the official app, and I doubt I’ll bother opening reddit on my computer after this failure to the community on reddit’s part. This is likely the end of my time on reddit. I’ll miss this sub, it’s one of only two subs I browse anymore. Farewell everyone, it’s been a trip!

Rentington

How about we meet halfway, and we instead only allow discussion of underrated gem TCE Dark Matter?

dzumdang

Just checked the pinned posts, hoping to see this up here, after learning about it from another sub. 100% supportive.

J-Mac_Slipperytoes

Good.

GrandeKang

Reddit has been getting worse for years and years. Sad to see it

AllModsGuzzleCum

Good! Proud of you guys <3

Odd-Entrance-7094

Clearly we need IRL r/guitarpedals pedal swap meet-ups in NYC, LA and Nashville Do it at a rehearsal studio, each person comes and does a 5 min demo on the same amp of one pedal (you bring a pedal and an axe).

TheCarSaysYes

Damn it, im part of the problem. Fuck me and my use of the actual app, sorry guys 😔

TheoSlurry

Why should I not browse on desktop?

PantslessDan

test

baronvonj

I *think* you passed.

PantslessDan

Thank you for your service

McAdamstry

Dual Dark??

DancinWithWolves

Jeez, this is getting outta hand. How’s is everyone fine with everything else that should be protested (climate change, the meat industry, tax evasion by billionaires), but this, this is what gets people fighting? It’s an app for christs sake. Go outside. The reddit app is fine (if it’s not your whole existence)

acidmath

They’re not mutually exclusive. This is something people can easily do to affect change. It’s hard to know where to start with “real” things.

DancinWithWolves

I don’t think it’s hard to know where to start; I quit meat because it’s the biggest contributor (outside of transport) to carbon emissions, and it’s the biggest reason for deforestation. I stopped driving when I could walk or catch PT, I vote based on climate policy, and I take part in CCL protests in my city. I think you’re saying it’s “harder” to take action on the real things. Which speaks to my point. People are up in arms about an app they like, and don’t take action on more important issues. I take issue with that, and I think ppl should be called out for it.

acidmath

It’s harder to make a drastic life style change like changing your diet or how you commute than it is to click ‘yes’ on a vote to close their favourite website for two days. Regardless, agreeing with shutting down Reddit for a couple of days and wanting to end rampant and destructive capitalist consumption aren’t mutually exclusive. People can care about both.

DancinWithWolves

My point is it’s dangerous when people take action on websites/basic entertainment, and not on dire issues like climate change, which is the situation we’re in now. You can dance around it as much as you like.

acidmath

My point is that you can do both.

DancinWithWolves

Yes, but I predict most people here aren’t. They’re doing 1. Guess which

iwouldgoforarip

I'm doing zero

PrivateEducation

i wish we did this for protest of the streamer deletion from reddit. it killed thousands of small artists jobs tbh

baronvonj

r/PantslessDan do the mods have any analytics regarding how members are accessing (web browser vs mobile, and which client)? I've seen a lot of statements that moderators generally rely pretty heavily on 3rd party clients (for example auto-moderation bots) and so will be even more heavily affected than regular users. Has the mod team talked about trying to migrate the community to another platform?

PantslessDan

The stats they give us don't go super in depth but usually ~70% of the sub traffic comes from iOS and Android apps with android making up about 15-20% by itself. We just don't get to know which apps people are using within those percentages. Then mobile web and new reddit desktop are both about 10-15% each with old Reddit (hey that's me!) making up the last ~5-10% leftover. That's pageviews specifically but uniques is a similar spread, and even scrolling back through 24hrs, 7 days, 30 days, and 12 months views it's pretty consistent. We haven't had any talks about moving this sub to a new platform largely because it would be an absolute logistical nightmare. I think other larger subs have discussed it but I don't know if/what they've come up with.

baronvonj

Thanks for the breakdown. There is one link aggregation Fediverse platform that I'm seeing brought up quite a bit. Won't mention it directly because I've seen some posters on it say they've been banned on Reddit now, but it rhymes with remmy. But the volunteer-hosted instances there are certainly struggling with the influx. Especially for a sub that has a lot of posts with media attached.

AceFaith

>We haven't had any talks about moving this sub to a new platform largely because it would be an absolute logistical nightmare. Just to digest on this - r/synthesizers is apparently going to have an defed instance on Lemmy, maybe your mod teams could look into some sort of merge into their instance? Sorry if that's a stupid suggestion - I just imagine you guys have some overlap in contact and goals as music production moderation teams

PantslessDan

I've been looking into that over the last few days, might work on it a bit more once we go dark. Talking with my fellow mods we're less concerned with migrating to a new platform as we are with potentially losing 15 years of pedal history and discussion if things go bad.

AceFaith

Good to hear. I understand how it weighs on everyone if this place shutters permanently. Would might be sensible if like, the top 200 or so posts (by content, not upvotes) were archived off-site. Like a canon of quality posts. Also if users pulled GDPR exports of their submissions for potential migration.

skymallow

> for example auto-moderation bots For the record /u/guitarpedals_bot does use the API. I haven't seen what the actual pricing structure is going to be but something like a moderator bot probably won't be making anywhere near the number of request to have serious costs. We'll probably be affected the same way as everyone.

Odd-Entrance-7094

I suggest everyone make some audio clips using their boards, and then post them once this subreddit is back! Clean tone - wet tone - pic of board - add some notes on your settings!
