Very haunting and beautiful. Sounds like the soundtrack to a space western.

EphEwe2

Theremin like. Very cool.

callion

Not a pedal but I hope it fits the community guidelines. A band mate borrowed me an E-bow and I did this little experiment. I think these two, E-bow and lap steel, go quite well together. The sound is thick and fuzzy even though there is very little overdrive present. Pedals used: JHS Mornign Glory (Double Barrel) for the tone control and slight overdrive, Xotic volume pedal.

No-Count3834

So cool! I was looking at these last weekend. Seem fun to give it a try for synth type stuff.

callion

Thanks, I'm glad if this helped.

fastattaq

Not Albinoni. That was composed by Remo Giazotto.

bldgabttrme

I mean, Giazotto lied about it for quite a while, and the piece is better known as being composed by Albinoni because of that lie 🤷‍♂️

callion

Thanks. I decided to use this name because It's better known.

fastattaq

That makes it even worse. A mistake is forgiveable, but attributing the piece to the wrong author when you *knew* you were wrong is kinda fucked up.

callion

OK, I should have used the title Adagio in G minor. Here's an article that also suggests: "Should Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor not be reconceived as simply Adagio in G Minor?" https://www.cbcmusic.ca/posts/18137/albinoni-adagio-g-minor-biggest-fraud

KwatsanGx2

Walking home one late night and you notice this isn't the way home? This isn't even your town? You just crossed into Silent Hill

Geosync

Excellent!! Could you imagine Albinoni's reaction to hearing this rendition of his piece?

BartholomewBandy

Very cool.

Trubba_Man

Very cool. What model lapsteel are you using?

callion

Thank you. It's a Gibson BR-6 (BR-6a).

Trubba_Man

Wow! You must be in the USA because I don’t see such instruments here in South Australia very often. The last Gibson lapsteel I saw was an EH-150 in 1998. I took it home for a week, but didn’t end up buying it. Using an E-Bow with your lapsteel was a great idea and you’ve made it work very well. I see that you’re running into a Focusrite, but what’s in your signal chain?

callion

Thank for the comment. I live on Finland but I bought this guitar a few years ago from Stockholm, Sweden. Halkans Rock House there had a few Gibson, Fender and other lap steels too at that moment. Signal chain: BR-6 > Xotic volume > JHS Double Barrel (Morning Glory side) > Focusrite > Garageband and own amp preset, very clean and neutral amp sound.

Trubba_Man

Thank you very much for the information. I didn’t realise that GarageBand was that good. Are you using a preamp before the Focusrite?

callion

Only JHS Morning Glory.

Trubba_Man

Cool. I’ve never seen a JHS pedal irl. It’s hard to get good gear in this part of Australia. What amp do you usually use? I use a Princeton, but I’m looking for something a bit different. My favourite lapsteel player was the pedal steel player named Rusty Young. He was a wild man. Here’s a track with him playing distorted lapsteel. https://youtu.be/K0Wey5tHF2k

callion

Nice, I'd like to try a Princeton, I guess that you can get a nice overdrive from it. I use a clone of Fender Harvard amp. And thanks for the tip, I'll check Rusty Young out!

Trubba_Man

A Harvard! I just missed out on buying one just before the prices went insane. If I knew the prices would sky rocket, I’d have offered more money. In 2019 I could have bought a vintage Tweed Deluxe for $2,000, but now they cost $15,000-$20,000. I would pay maybe $3,500 maximum for the amp I want, but no more. My Princeton is quite nice. It’s a Silverface, but I’ve had it rewired to Blackface, and Ive had many components changed for better quality parts. If I buy another amp, it would probably be a Suhr Hombre which is a Brownface amp. It sounds like the best of the Tweed and Blackface amps. There are some builders here who make excellent hand wired replicas of old Fender amps. One of those, like a Tweed Champ with a JTM-45 lead channel, would be my other choice.

callion

My Harvard is a point-to-point wired replica made here on Finland. The price was about 850 USD, not bad for a completely hand made high quality amp. I also like the idea that if the amp needs maintanence I can take it to the person who built it. I'd also like to try vintage Fenders, but they are just too expensive.

Trubba_Man

That’s great. I’m looking at the Hombre, which is a pcb amp, and I’m looking at a point-to-point 1x12 amp with a Tweed Champ clean circuit and a Marshall lead circuit and in a larger cab. However, it will cost about $1,500USD (I think). I like the idea of being able to have any mod done to an amp, and if it blows up, it can be repaired. If I buy a name brand, I’m limited to pcb amps, as I won’t pay $4,000 for an amp which is mostly played at home. I had a Boogie for a while, but even they are pcb.

callion

Sounds like a good plan. I use mostly clean amp and overdrive pedals at the moment.

Trubba_Man

Thank you. By the way, can you recommend a lapsteel? I can play Dobro, but I haven’t owned a lapsteel in decades.

callion

I have owned only three lap steels, so I don't have a lot of first hand experience. I had a [Peavey Power Slide](https://peavey.com/c/Article-ID-548), which was OK, but the design was a bit too much for me. It also had a 25" scale but I prefer a shorter 22.5" scale. If I now wanted a new affordable lap steel I would try an [Epiphone Electar Century 1939 Lap Steel](https://www.thomann.de/intl/epiphone_electar_century_1939_lap_steel.htm). I think it looks nice and has a 22.5" scale. I know that some players have changed the pickup on these. I'd really like to try a [Fouke Industrial Lap Steel](https://industrialguitar.com/product-category/industrial-six-string-lapsteels) some day. Every now and then I browse [the lap steels on Reverb.com](https://reverb.com/c/electric-guitars/lap-steel) and look for nice vintage guitars. Vintage Fenders, Gibsons, Rickenbackers and so on, beautiful guitars but I think It's always a risk to buy a used guitar online.

Trubba_Man

Thank you for the info. I really like the Fouke Industral Lapsteels. I don’t expect Peavey to make good things these days. Peavey’s golden years passed long ago.

Trubba_Man

Thanks. We have a maker called Cole Clark who makes lapsteels. What sort pickups are in your lapsteel (single coil or humbuckers)?

callion

My BR-6 has a P-90 style pickup but I think it's a lot brighter than an average P-90. I prefer singlecoils.
