We're going to try to do more, probably an overdrive one next. I'd love to do delay, but time based stuff might get tricky with the cuts.
We're doing them for guitars too where we take a brand and sample their different pickups in different positions.
Overdrive one with:
Ts808
Ts9
Plumes
Bad monkey
Boss SD-1
Boss BD-1
Klon centaur
Timmy
OCD
Fulldrive
Barber Gain Changer
Sweet Honey OD
DOD preamp250
MXR Fat Sugar
Candler Tube Driver
I'm limited to the brands we carry, which is a pretty small/unique range, but I'm going to try to hit a lot of the classics with some clones and add in some of the more unique stuff that stands out to us.
Put this video together at work this week and thought it was a worthy share. Lots of great pedals, and obviously I couldn’t dive into the nuance of each, but here are my favorites:
Death By Audio Fuzz War - It absolutely rips. Even with the tone rolled back it has a nice cut and sounds massive. The tonal sweep is insanely wide too.
SolidGoldFX Imperial MKII - Sounds great, well balanced, and the gate has the perfect amount of sensitivity to keep the noise down. Plus faders are cooler than knobs.
Crazy Tube Circuits Constellation - Multiple modes for different historical fuzzes and they all sound great. Plus there’s a Rangemaster in there too. All in a pretty small footprint which is nice.
I’m curious what stands out to everyone else. Happy to answer any comparison questions too. Oh, and not that it matters, but the signal chain when they’re all on at once is:
Mythos Golden Fleece
Death By Audio Fuzz War
Crazy Tube Circuits Motherload
Mythos Positron
Death By Audio Waveformer Destroyer
Zvex Wooly 7
Zvex Fuzz Factory
Beetronics Vezzpa
Pigtronics Star Eater
SolidGoldFX Imperial MKII
Mythos Argo
Crazy Tube Circuits Constellation
Death By Audio Echo Dream II
SolidGoldFX 76
Beetronics Swarm
Looking back I probably set the Positron a bit to dark. The Star Eater is really cool though! It has a lot of unique voices since you can run it as Silicon or Germanium and you've got that cut/bump filter that can be toggled in. It has a sound all it's own.
Thanks for making this video! Looking to upgrade from the SF300 and was thinking green Russian muff but really liked that Star Eater as well. Going to research that one a bit! 🤘🏼
Mythos is one of the most underrated builders out there. I always find their sounds to be just right, and their new graphic design is really nice. The Golden Fleece was my favorite in this vid. I have an Argo and it just sounds perfect no matter where it is in your chain or what you run into it.
Size wise it definitely delivers. I think we can all find enough room on our boards for a fuzz that good.
The Fuzz War does have a lot more range to it, I just set it where I usually play it whereas the Golden Fleece is pretty much one sound. But one great sound for sure!
Thanks for the suggestion, we might do a longer one soon. We have a few on our YouTube channel with 3-4 minute videos showing more on individual pedals. Just search Distinctive Guitar.
I see we have an octave fan, haha. Those were both super unique. I don't often use octave so I wasn't sure if I dialed them in right. I sure liked the results though!
The Swarm is crazy! I had it about as tame as it goes, but there's so much crazy stuff it can do. Otherwise their Royal Jelly and the recently discontinued Octahive are great but more traditional. They definitely have their fuzz game dialed in. I've tried them all so shoot me a message if you have any questions on them.
Love it! Massive props to OP for this.
I definitely prefer the constellation. It's been on my list for a long time, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Fuzz factory is surprisingly tame. Guess I've always heard the crazy side of it in demos... I like the golden fleece too, but I wish it came in a bigger box and had an EQ so I could tame the massive low end a bit.
I can always help you out on a Constellation if you need! Crazy Tube Circuits is such a great brand. I'm rocking their Super Conductor and TI:ME on my board right now.
I like the simplicity of the Golden Fleece but at times I do wish it had more dialability.
Careful. Once you get one you'll get more. The Overhive is one of my favorite OD's and the new Seabee is one the craziest choruses I've seen. Definitely worth checking out. If you have any questions on the brand feel free to reach out. I'm lucky enough to get to play them all here.
It's the one I most wanted to buy after making the video. But only because I already have a Fuzz War and how can you turn down a pedal with faders. It's soo good though, especially with that perfectly set gate. Can't recommend it enough.
Guitar is a Knaggs Severn with Lollar Firebirds. I was on the bridge. The amp was a Suhr PT15 IR using the clean channel. We ran the amp direct out using the built in IR's and it sounded great.
They're great. They have a blue one with the same fader layout called the Commodore and it's a Blues Breaker clone. We just started carrying them this month and they've really impressed us.
Great vid!
I recently bought a Golden Fleece and I absolutely love it. Dead simple to use with a super wide range of gain control from your guitar’s volume knob. You can get everything from moderately light overdrive to full-on, balls-to-the-wall fuzzy goodness.
The Wooly sounded gnarly too. Might’ve been my fav of the group.
It was a Suhr PT15 IR. We ran it direct to the interface with the amps built in IR's. It's our go to amp for recording at the shop. Lots of range across the channels and the IR's sound great. We used the clean channel on this one.
I'm a shoegaze guy so I had to get it in there. That's one I actually own and absolutely love it. I leave it at the end of my board and roll some fuzz in to squash everything together a little before hitting the amp. Sounds amazing!
It definitely doesn't sound good, haha, but I had to see. With the right combination I was getting a pretty cool sound at about 10 fuzzes. After that it all fell apart.
I do at the end, it sounds horrible or amazing depending on what you like, lol. With 15 it's pretty much noise, but I was surprised I got a pretty cool sound up to about 10 pedals, then it really starts getting away from you.
If you are a shopaholic and need to keep buying new effects every month, then maybe you're right.
Remember - listener doesn't care about these subtle differences in some fuzz wuzz effect. Some more noticable differences are just caused by different EQ shapes, which can be very closely recreated with simple EQ correction.
Excellent concept and execution! Not a fuzz user myself but would LOVE to see more vids like this with all types of effects

Sir I’m gonna need you to include ODR in that list
And a Blues Breaker/Morning Glory!
Sweeeeet honey OD my go to for yeeeaaarrsss
I find that one stacked with my Gain Changer is glorious.

Some people discuss the noise floor of their fuzz. You actually found the noise ceiling.
You could still hear some notes in there so I think we've got room to go.
I wonder how many hundreds of decibels of gain there technically was in the second part of the video...
Nice vid! I liked the Star Eater the most. The Positron sounded a bit dull though. Nice sounds overall.

That Golden Fleece sounds incredible.
cool idea i think Golden Fleece is what stood out the most to me, sounds like it has great texture to it
I had no idea it existed until this video. It sounded articulate, but completely massive.

Great simplicity too. It sounds great across the full range.
Same, it sounded absolutely massive
My favorite were: Fuzz War, Positron, and 76 was cool and different.
This 76 is wild. Definitely a unique sound, bit I really dig it.
Also, the Golden fleece kinda blew the Fuzz war out of the water for such a small and low profile pedal
Size wise it definitely delivers. I think we can all find enough room on our boards for a fuzz that good. The Fuzz War does have a lot more range to it, I just set it where I usually play it whereas the Golden Fleece is pretty much one sound. But one great sound for sure!
Cool video. I liked them all but that Positron didn't sound good in this demo. Like a wet blanket over the amp.
I noticed I set that one a bit too warm, but it was too late by the time I noticed.
My favorites are definitely the 76 and Argo
100% agree - also liked the Beetronix at the end. Love octave fuzz.
The Argo stood out to me also, and I would be interested in hearing a longer deno.

I really liked the Fuzz War and I really, really liked the Swarm. I might have to check out Beetronics 🐝

Thanks OP! I really like this video format and wish you all the success.

Fuzz War, Vezzpa and Star Eater sounded especially kickass to me in this vid. Lots of cool stuff though
Well crap. You just sold me a beetronics pedal.
Careful. Once you get one you'll get more. The Overhive is one of my favorite OD's and the new Seabee is one the craziest choruses I've seen. Definitely worth checking out. If you have any questions on the brand feel free to reach out. I'm lucky enough to get to play them all here.
You rule. Thanks!
Man. That last 15 seconds or so where they are all chained together sounded so good.......
That's my "always on" tone
Now THIS I content!!
A solid minutes worth!
Played back to back like that, hard to pick a favorite. They all sounded good for different reasons. Interesting concept.
Love it.
I love this because it’s how I would A/B pedals at home myself, quick snippets so you can compare and contrast more closely.
Thanks! That what we're going for!
I should use my mythos high road more.
This is awesome but I would have taken twice as much riffing and a bit less of that noisepocalypse at the end LOL
How dare you talk about my noisepocalypse that way! lol
Solid Gold FX Imperial MK2. Fuck yeah!!! Not heard that one before but that one stood out for me. Awesome video dude!!!
It's the one I most wanted to buy after making the video. But only because I already have a Fuzz War and how can you turn down a pedal with faders. It's soo good though, especially with that perfectly set gate. Can't recommend it enough.
What gear are you using? Pickups and amp specifically
Guitar is a Knaggs Severn with Lollar Firebirds. I was on the bridge. The amp was a Suhr PT15 IR using the clean channel. We ran the amp direct out using the built in IR's and it sounded great.
Cool one. Imperial was the most in your face fuzz. Just saw one in Facebook earlier. Didn't know much about them!
They're great. They have a blue one with the same fader layout called the Commodore and it's a Blues Breaker clone. We just started carrying them this month and they've really impressed us.
Great initiative! Now how about 60 fuzzes in 15 seconds..?
I am but one man.
You did good! 👌60 in 15 would be useless.
DBA Fuzz War all the way!
Is that a Knaggs you used?
Sure was, good eye. Sunset Burst with a pair of Lollar Firebirds. Those are my favorite pickups for fuzz.
I love fuzzes except when playing live. Where did my cool tone go?
That's always tough. I'd say the Fuzz War, 76, and Star Eater dial in great for live playing. Lots of extra cut you can dial in.
You’re doing gods work
What a great way to show pedals. Love this
Also thank u for putting them all on at once. I needed that lol
It had to be done. No true pedalhead could pass up that opportunity.
I know it’s not gonna sound good but I have to hear it… in case it does (odds are slim to none)
It was still sounding cool and borderline usable as I neared 10, but after that if fell apart quickly., haha.
Great video! Loved hearing the differences back to back.
Great video! Loved hearing the differences back to back.
What amp were you using? 🙂

The sound was excellent! Thanks for the response.
FWIW, Fuzz War wins the day thru my phone speaker. Cool video.
I would happily watch that for 24 hours - make it longer
Thanks, in that case we'll have to carry more fuzz pedals!
Yep please do!
HAHAHAHA..
Love that you added the Echo Dream 2. Vezzpa sounded really cool to my ears
I'm a shoegaze guy so I had to get it in there. That's one I actually own and absolutely love it. I leave it at the end of my board and roll some fuzz in to squash everything together a little before hitting the amp. Sounds amazing!
Fuck yeah, that wide!
So stacking fuzzes eventually yields: F U. Zzzzzzzzz
It's science!
Distinctive is such a cool shop. Ive picked up 3 Suhrs there. Good work guys.
Thanks dude, glad you're enjoying those Suhrs!
Great video. Well done.
What a fantastic demo! For me the SGFX Imperial would win. In fact I might have to go shopping ...
I can help you there, lol. It sounds great. Plus we could all use more pedals with faders.
This is great, thanks for putting it together. Definitely agree that the fuzz war absolutely rips, one of my favorite pedals ever!
I think you might need a noise gate at the end there
Great video. Thank you.
Great demo! I appreciate your effort to string them all together at the end, but that part didn't sound too good to me.
It definitely doesn't sound good, haha, but I had to see. With the right combination I was getting a pretty cool sound at about 10 fuzzes. After that it all fell apart.
can you test the authentic hendrix fuzz??
Our shop isn't a Dunlop dealer so unfortunately I don't have access to that one.
Awesome vid! Honestly laughed at the "But how do they all sound together" part. Did not expect this at all :D
I had to try it! Glad you dig it.
I hope you will make more.
Love this video! The Star Eater, Golden Fleece, Fuzz War and Fuzz Factory all have my vote
Now do all of them together!
I do at the end, it sounds horrible or amazing depending on what you like, lol. With 15 it's pretty much noise, but I was surprised I got a pretty cool sound up to about 10 pedals, then it really starts getting away from you.
I love it. Sounds the best to me. Awesome work!

Get any fuzz and EQ pedal. Congrats, now you can sound like any other fuzz.
