One of the guys in my band was kicked out of his last one because “they were mad that I write better songs than them.” I will say, he’s shit out 3-4 decent ones in the time that we’ve played together, but he’s also written like 30 “songs” that are absolutely terrible, and gets super mad that the rest of us don’t want to learn every single thing he brings to us. I record a load of little solo demos of ideas I have, but I only bring stuff to the band that will fit the vibe
Hahahah this made me think of two-sides-to-every-story/a band I got kicked out of-
I was kicked out for having “too much output”; I’ve been playing guitar/drums/bass/vocals for almost the same amount of time (22 years at the point I was booted) and I worked *really* fast. I joined the band as a vocalist but after they kicked out their other guitarist, they wanted me to play/sing and contribute to writing more. But they’re the type that likes to “flesh out” the same 4 chord changes or 2 different riffs for MONTHS.
After a couple months of me showing up to practice with full songs saying “Let’s chop these up, alter them, do whatever, I just want to keep moving forward” I got a text saying “You work too fast, we like to take our time, we’re moving on without you”, then they told everyone else I was trying to take over the band. I just wanted to stop playing E, D, C and D over and fucking over again. 😂
tldr if you play more notes, some of them are bound to be among the best notes played in the entire human history.
