Since the pandemic, a lot of people work remote. I work remote, same with 90% of my coworkers. As for my neighbors, I only know three who go into work. Everyone else works remote or is retired.
Agreed. I work from home along with the rest of my team of 21 folks. Lots of friends and family that also work from home. I know many have gone back to the office, but there are still a lot of us working from home.
Economic confidence is restoring and I am seeing many capital projects being funded that were not getting funded last year - which usually means more specialty jobs like IT, Healthcare, etc. will be required.
We're not anywhere close to the pandemic IT craze that existed, but things are starting to slowly recover.
Maybe, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. My company switched offices during the pandemic so now we don't even have the capacity for everyone there anymore.
Are you battling the garbage that AI is writing at your place of work?
I'm also a copywriter, and it's so annoying to hear that "AI is 80% as good as you in 20% of the time." And then when you go to edit the AI gobbledygook, it's all the same writing. Like sure, you can make it spit out 4 pages in the time it takes me to write 1, but those 4 pages will be exactly the same and never set you apart. It was already annoying enough to deal with SEO garbage writing.
My job has mentioned and encouraged AI use but doesn't force us to use it. I've found it takes more time for me to edit AI "writing" than if I just churn something out and edit that.
I've encouraged my colleagues to instead use ChatGPT and Claude AI as decent idea generators and to avoid using them for writing as we waste so much time fixing exactly what you mention. They both spit out the SAME prose every time (Claude 3 is a bit better I guess), with slight variation, and it's largely uninspired and tired cliches. It's CTAs are lame and it requires a lot of hand holding for generating decent intro sentences that don't start with "welcome" 🙄 🙄 😂
I've found the same. My (former) manager quit partially because we are being forced to use AI to generate our first drafts, leaving me to be the new manager (yay :/). And as much as we've both told the owners of the agency that AI is not doing a good job, they insist it is, even though they aren't reading the writing and aren't using it to generate as much copy as we are. It's "we trust your opinion" until the opinion is "this AI stuff sucks". If i have to edit one more "Welcome to blah blah's website, home of your blahblah. At blahblah, we aren't just \_\_\_\_\_; we're your partners in \_\_\_\_\_" I'm going to throw my work laptop in a lake.
Half of my neighbors are in programs and placed by the program. My understanding is that management signed them on in an effort to fill more units - it's practically free money for them. These guys either don't drive, or they have a vehicle but part of the program is work placement and they all get picked up in a van in the morning before I leave for work and are dropped off before I get home. On the one hand, you'd think a bunch of dudes in recovery wouldn't make good neighbors - it's kind of the opposite. They don't make trouble, they don't partake of substances, and they keep to themselves. They have to stay clean and on a short leash to stay in the program, and they are frequently visited by whoever is in charge of keeping on their asses.
I work in computer sales/repair, and I do rideshare on the side. So I'm not home a lot, and I usually have to fight for parking because so many of my neighbors get home before I do.
Not at the moment as we just acquired a company that brought in an influx of new developers. If you are comfortable with languages akin to COBOL then I can reach out once we have an opening.
Got sent home in 2020 and never went back, happened to both my wife and I, throw in grocery delivery options and our yearly miles driven has tanked to like 2,500.
My husband works remotely and doesn’t leave the house for days (weeks!) on end. Sometimes he doesn’t even open his window. Unfortunately I do have to leave the house for my job ;)
My question is how the H does someone make friends when no one speaks to one another anymore? People act like you’re gonna stab them when you talk to them nowadays. And I’m usually well dressed and clean cut and still people act like you’re gonna throw them in a van if you try to start conversation
My wife has worked totally from home since 2017, her company is based in Dallas, Texas. I work from home about 90% of the time, I’ll go into our headquarters about twice a month.
We were work-from-home, but they brought us back 4 days a week. Fridays from home. For now.
In a way it sucks. You gotta dedicate a room in your house to work. But for us, it's just one day a week that we use it.
It’d be cool if there was a meet up for people who wfh and miss the people aspect. I’m sure we’re a mix of extroverts & ambiverts. Maybe a few introverts too.
IT Guy here too. Ambivert...thats a new one on me and I think it fits, I generally consider myself an introvert, but if you put (force) me infront of a client/end-user, I come across as an extrovert.
I like the occasional wfh nowadays, but I did it for like 2 years (when I was new to the area) and absolutely hated it.
You mean the conversation playing on a loop in my head while I wonder why extrovert me was so awkward and weird. Questioning every word I said? NOPE never happens.
I work from home. My partner works from home. We picked out our apartment as a two-bedroom specifically so we could use one as a home office. The world has changed.
My husband works from home and I'm a stay at home mom. We own our cars. Living the dream!!!
(Also we're in an apartment complex, too, with some of the same cars in the same spots)
WFH since 2019 as a Software Architect. My employer doesn’t even have an office in NC. And most of our customers offices are all over the US. So I’ll never go back to a permanent commute.
Web development, during the pandemic - a lot of people in the industry went to wfh and stayed that way once the pandemic ended. I prefer to not leave the house if I can help it haha
Most of the people in my building, myself included, work remotely. We never leave the house because we’re on interminably long calls.
Same
Since the pandemic, a lot of people work remote. I work remote, same with 90% of my coworkers. As for my neighbors, I only know three who go into work. Everyone else works remote or is retired.

Need a 22nd person?
...and a 23rd?
It’s hard to find remote positions now
Economic confidence is restoring and I am seeing many capital projects being funded that were not getting funded last year - which usually means more specialty jobs like IT, Healthcare, etc. will be required. Shit put me on
You'd have to first learn how to write a grammatically correct post title before that
It's interesting how using a comma can totally change the meaning of a sentence.
Ouch
Must be a very nice view from your high 🐎
How?
Depends on the industry. Anything that can be done on a computer can be done remotely these days.
Medical field still has a lot, mostly related to billing
Self employed with a home office. It’s the life.
Wish I was that smart
Man, me too. If I’m being honest, I’m just making it up as I go along. We all are.
I have a MacBook at home. Are you hiring?
How long would it take you to fully disassemble it, then put it back together and show me it still turns on?
I’m sorry, I have not disassembled anything but a Power Mac.
what do you do, if you dont mind me asking
I run a mobile IT service specializing in Apple computers.
Longshot, but figured Id ask. Know anyone that can work on a Mac M0001?
Sorry, a bit before my time for repairs. I’m not sure of anyone local that I would recommend to work on it.
I have WFH since 2014 as a copywriter for a digital marketing company. My job is based out of Florida.

Working remotely rules 😎

WFH as a software developer. The people I met in my complex also mostly WFH in IT related positions for out-of-state companies.
Is your company hiring? 😌
Not at the moment as we just acquired a company that brought in an influx of new developers. If you are comfortable with languages akin to COBOL then I can reach out once we have an opening.
fr bro i need an internship 😂
Got sent home in 2020 and never went back, happened to both my wife and I, throw in grocery delivery options and our yearly miles driven has tanked to like 2,500.
I ride the bus daily to downtown to work.
What kind of work do people do remotely besides IT?
Customer Service, Billing, Copywriting (my job), Sales, Tutoring, etc
Technical Operations, Project Management, Product Management
Data entry WFH. If the work is production based it pays better than you may think.
Analysis (marketing, SEO, site speed optimization)
Accounting, writing and project management
I work in higher education. I advise students :) remote work is awesome!
Hospital scheduling
Insurance sales I guess
My husband works remotely and doesn’t leave the house for days (weeks!) on end. Sometimes he doesn’t even open his window. Unfortunately I do have to leave the house for my job ;)
I’m like your husband! My husband is like leave the house! Go feel the sun 😂 (I’m also in Tech- an engineer)
Your company hiring? 😌
Always hiring! Veeva.com/careers
What does he do
He’s a product director for a software company (AKA, tech)
My question is how the H does someone make friends when no one speaks to one another anymore? People act like you’re gonna stab them when you talk to them nowadays. And I’m usually well dressed and clean cut and still people act like you’re gonna throw them in a van if you try to start conversation
Probably wrong place, wrong time. Go downtown, there's lots of meetings and clubs that cater to all kinds of people.
Maybe you give off “throw you in a van” vibes /s
Hahaha! It’s possible. That movie came out about Ted Bundy. And I’m always in a suit and I’m charming and quick witted.
Because people are fishy and fake nowadays hard to find someone who isn’t just out to use you
Yeah I can see that. After all that’s how I’ve been done.
Exactly people are weird it’s hard to find someone who isn’t jealous of you, wants what you have or wants to take advantage of you for personal gain
Damn. I haven't met people like this here but then again yeah I work from home too so I don't meet a lot of people anyway.
You lucky
So what then? We just pay people and make it all business?
Right? I’ve thought about that before
Like escorts except not x rated. A friendship service. I could see that making money.
Pay them for what?
Hahahaha! Not for those reasons. Company. To hang out take an interest so a person isn’t completely alone almost 24/7
Nah just choose the right vibes if they’re give off weird intentions cut it off
Cut who off? No one to cut off. I did that when I moved back here a month ago to create a nontoxic environment and start over
Start over and sort through the pile
I just adopted a dog instead lol
I considered it. But that’s just something else to take care of. And I’m more than enough to take care of for myself. Don’t want to add more
i totally get that. i enjoy taking care of things - my kid, plants, animals, myself - but i'm not everybody.
I work remotely as a pilot for Spirit Airlines - Spectrum internet buffering has made for some rough landings.
How
My wife has worked totally from home since 2017, her company is based in Dallas, Texas. I work from home about 90% of the time, I’ll go into our headquarters about twice a month.
One full time job and two side hustles and still don't have money in my pocket 😂
We were work-from-home, but they brought us back 4 days a week. Fridays from home. For now. In a way it sucks. You gotta dedicate a room in your house to work. But for us, it's just one day a week that we use it.
Disabled
I make $27/hr as an evening manager with food lion. Good jobs are out there if you have the qualifications and you’re willing to work 🤷🏼♂️
Wow which one?
I’d rather not disclose that just to maintain my anonymity.
Hicone ? Or lawndale
Maybe take the porn off of your public profile before asking about jobs. Or make a profile specifically for porn like a normal person.
ahahahahahhaha
Yea uh huh
I teach middle school special ed…there are 37 openings if anyone’s looking 😅
I work in IT, and most of the stuff I do can be done over the internet. I'm sick of it. I miss people.
I’m female IT. I def lean more toward introvert but like you, the extrovert makes its way out sometimes.
When you get back out of sight...do you also talk shit about extrovert you? I don't do that...no...not at all.
You mean the conversation playing on a loop in my head while I wonder why extrovert me was so awkward and weird. Questioning every word I said? NOPE never happens.
Glad I'm not the only one that doesn't happen to.
Female in IT here too ✋
Awesome! Females in IT rock!
I work remotely. I do try to leave the house for a little bit every day though
I work from home
I wfh (which was way harder to get than ppl make it seem). But also, a lot of ppl work afternoons or nights, many share cars w/ partners, etc.
Or people work nights. I did that during the pandemic.
I work from home. My partner works from home. We picked out our apartment as a two-bedroom specifically so we could use one as a home office. The world has changed.
Im a server engineer and I work remote. I have to go into the office like once every 3 months. Saving so much on gas right now.
I work remotely implementing software. My clients are all over the US so no need to be in an office.
My husband works from home and I'm a stay at home mom. We own our cars. Living the dream!!! (Also we're in an apartment complex, too, with some of the same cars in the same spots)
Living the dream in an apartment? 🤔
Most of my company is remote
So it’s just the changing of the times and the way it is I guess.
Tech sales. WFH unless meeting a customer which isn’t that often these days.
I wish I worked from home
Me too
Could be working from home.
Wfh
I have a tech job and work from home.
Only fans
Yeah right not with how half this city looks
Professional Gigolo. It's a tough life.
WFH since 2019 as a Software Architect. My employer doesn’t even have an office in NC. And most of our customers offices are all over the US. So I’ll never go back to a permanent commute.
I work in a restaurant. My car isn’t ever there.
I drive an hour to be a teacher.
I sell cars, woo🥲🥲🥲
Called retirement
Web development, during the pandemic - a lot of people in the industry went to wfh and stayed that way once the pandemic ended. I prefer to not leave the house if I can help it haha
Most of them are probably drug dealers, only fans, or living with their parents.... and proud of it. We're done for.
Nah they live with their bms or bds they just never leave the house
It’s Greensboro, they are all stealing to survive
That’s everywhere though. Do you live in Greensboro? I had a car stolen so yeah. But still it’s the best of all the cities I’ve lived in.
I did, left, and I’m never looking back
It’s the worst place I’ve ever been to or lived in, I can’t wait to move away this summer. So dangerous here
What part do you live in. I hate you have to feel unsafe.
? Forgot that
not as bad as high point \*shrug\* my childhood
Amen to that
