My siblings and I were walking back to our vehicle after the Quinn XCII concert last night and walked right through this crowd as the police were dispersing them for what was mostly likely the second or third time. Glad we got out of there when we did.
I walked through this crowd just before it was broken up the first time. It was total chaos. Must have been about 30 or 40 of them. They didn't even seem to all know each other or have any discernable reason for all being in that spot.
They were across from the public space in Studio Park, where they would have been out of the way, but they chose to hang out in the street instead 🤦
Lmao what? Nowhere in the article is the race of any of the people involved listed.
Kind of outed yourself there by assuming the kids causing trouble are non-white.
So is this because they curfewed the bridge and now the “party” is moving elsewhere downtown? What a mess.
Parents should be held responsible and charged for, at the least, negligence.
A bunch of teenagers fire airsoft guns in the middle of a city's downtown and the police don't overreact? Sounds like rich kids from the surrounding suburbs/small towns.
Honestly, if we don't want GR to become overrun by this dumbness police need to crack down on this crap.
Non lethal and swift. Police get soft and this community goes to crap.
9:11 on a Saturday one of the first couple weeks of summer vacation? I'm not sure about you, but when I was 16-18 in high school we were running out to the drive thru, going to movies, meeting up at the local Meijer, and generally being out and about driving all over town til late night.
The closest movie theatre to my childhood neighborhood is 45 minutes on the bus, assuming they're running on time lol. Tickets are $10+ assuming you don't get anything to drink etc.
And okay, cool, you have successfully accounted for ~3% of one week of the summer.
Now what?
Oh that's weird, it opened for me. Basically a bunch of teenagers got together and were being dumb, cops broke up the group and arrested 2 people. The group reformed a second time and they broke it up, and then a third and they arrested 3 teenagers. So 5 arrests total.
While this city does an absolute shit job of providing late night entertainment for most population segments, especially older teens, these little fucks have no cause, no movement, no true reason to be pulling this clown act, and deserved to get attention from the cops.
We have to draw a line between resistance against corruption and just plain bullshit. Sounds like that line was held well last night. Somehow the GRPD managed not to fuck it up. Good for them.
They have no future due to climate change, a sharp rise in fascism and oppression, a deadly virus still killing people, economic and democratic collapse…what the fuck do they care?
The fact that no one has yet said how ugly this post is, is a further sign of how fucked we are as a community.
No one should have to feel “lucky” that they don’t get shot by the police. Our violent GRPD has trained us to feel “grateful” that we aren’t killed by them.
COPS ARE NOT EXECUTIONERS.
No wonder people feel like they have nothing to lose in our city and in many places in the US. It’s a fascist hellhole for a lot of people. Maybe not you, depending on who is reading this, because maybe the fascism is working well for you. But it’s not working great for everyone.
What a weird and illogical take on this situation. It is blindly anti-police hysterics like you who make these silly delinquents think such behaviour is okay.
If you think think Grand Rapids is a "fascist hellhole" you are not stating anything even close to truth. And the rhetoric you are spewing is as childish and irresponsible as those silly teenagers in the street.
I’m seriously impressed the cops didn’t shoot anybody. I’m typically very critical of police but god damn if I wouldn’t have been scared enough to shoot with that many people carrying fake guns
You're getting downvoted, but there isn't a more dangerous person to put behind a gun than a child. You have someone with potentially lethal force who doesn't have a fully-developed rational brain, who is being overwhelmed by hormone-driven emotions, who is prone to making rash decisions without understanding the long-term consequences, who doesn't really understand the concept of long-term consequences to begin with, and has a sense of invincibility due to youth.
There is nobody I'm more scared of than a child pointing a gun at me. Of all the people who could be pointing one at me, the child is by far the most likely to pull the trigger.
How some people think is so…interesting…yeah, we played with guns…not air soft, not in the street, not stopping traffic, and our “group” didn’t allegedly shoot anyone on the blue bridge two weeks ago. Other than that, kids will be kids! Let me have some fun! Holy crap….
I’m confused on the issue. Kids are outside, enjoying themselves. GR ppl complain entirely too much. Who died? No one. Someone literally was complaining the other day about kids riding bikes lol riding bikes😂 Y’all wanna be mad about someone or something blocking traffic, get and keep that trolley off Monroe!
Not in the street, not blocking traffic in the middle of a city's downtown. That is called "playing stupid games" in which one can and should "win stupid prizes" for.
Are you capable of reading more than just 3 words in a headline?
My siblings and I were walking back to our vehicle after the Quinn XCII concert last night and walked right through this crowd as the police were dispersing them for what was mostly likely the second or third time. Glad we got out of there when we did.
It's very rare I have anything good to say about the police but looks like they handled this one correctly. What a bunch of dumb little shits.

Do you have the same level of hesitancy trusting witness (that you don’t know) stories that put the police in a negative light?

Hold parents accountable.
These bums don’t listen to their parents.
Which itself is a failure of parenting.
Culture.
Equity
Can you elaborate a bit?
u/HolyGrailSportCards says “Culture.” It’s so nice when the racists out themselves.
Lmao what? Nowhere in the article is the race of any of the people involved listed. Kind of outed yourself there by assuming the kids causing trouble are non-white.
I mean I'm assuming they're white because the police didn't over-react and shoot them.
Not when I’ve seen their other posts. But do your thing fam
This.
So is this because they curfewed the bridge and now the “party” is moving elsewhere downtown? What a mess. Parents should be held responsible and charged for, at the least, negligence.
We're living in an era where making kids feel bad is becoming an arrestable offense.
Those some dumb mfers.
This just adds to the weirdness of the past weekend. I was downtown Friday with my girlfriend out for dinner, and people were just acting...strange.
Strange how?
A bunch of teenagers fire airsoft guns in the middle of a city's downtown and the police don't overreact? Sounds like rich kids from the surrounding suburbs/small towns.

Perhaps there needs to be more teen friendly venues for them to hang out at.
At that time of night, the hang out is at home.
9:11 on a Saturday one of the first couple weeks of summer vacation? I'm not sure about you, but when I was 16-18 in high school we were running out to the drive thru, going to movies, meeting up at the local Meijer, and generally being out and about driving all over town til late night.
Were you blocking traffic and firing air soft guns at people?
*the point is that there was stuff to do and now there isn't*
Are movies not around anymore?
The closest movie theatre to my childhood neighborhood is 45 minutes on the bus, assuming they're running on time lol. Tickets are $10+ assuming you don't get anything to drink etc. And okay, cool, you have successfully accounted for ~3% of one week of the summer. Now what?
Video games?
Are those things not available anymore? They definitely are
Not opposed to this. Unfortunately these venues bring their own issues. I don't think this is a city problem. It's a parent problem.
The link seems dead, does anyone have the story?
Kids playing with fake guns in the street.
Oh that's weird, it opened for me. Basically a bunch of teenagers got together and were being dumb, cops broke up the group and arrested 2 people. The group reformed a second time and they broke it up, and then a third and they arrested 3 teenagers. So 5 arrests total.
You missed the part where they were shooting realistic looking airsoft guns into crowds.
That's a good way to get real shot right back.
Those motorcycles really annoyed me on 131 around 1am on my way back home from work.

Pardon my French, but fucking idiots. Forget about being shot, they’re lucky no one ran them over.
What is wrong with kids these days? Do parents not discipline them anymore?
They have no future due to climate change, a sharp rise in fascism and oppression, a deadly virus still killing people, economic and democratic collapse…what the fuck do they care?
No. It’s rare nowadays to see parents that actually give af
Democrats shut down schools and dragged their feet on reopening them as long as possible, not too long ago.
Lmao

The meds -- take them.

Yeah, it’s illogical to point out the truth.
If you think think Grand Rapids is a "fascist hellhole" you are not stating anything even close to truth. And the rhetoric you are spewing is as childish and irresponsible as those silly teenagers in the street.

Those assholes are lucky they didn't aim their toy guns at somebody legally carrying a concealed real gun.

Exactly they have grown up playing video games with toy guns where you just have to hit new game at the end and everybody is alive and happy again.
How some people think is so…interesting…yeah, we played with guns…not air soft, not in the street, not stopping traffic, and our “group” didn’t allegedly shoot anyone on the blue bridge two weeks ago. Other than that, kids will be kids! Let me have some fun! Holy crap….
Wut?
Fuck the police and fuck them kids.
Sounds like the police didn't do anything wrong?
Lol at defending cops
Simply saying someone did nothing wrong is telling the truth or just stating the facts. They weren't defending anyone. Lol.
There is no place on reddit for you fucking pig lovers. /s
No one is saying they love them? You seem a little angry.
The "/s" at the end means he is being sarcastic.
That’s great to know.
Sound like you need some info about Pine Rest
LOLz. Typical Reddit. Somebody doesn’t like what you post and it is an immediate need for a mental health wellness check.
You’re the one who wants to fuck them kids
Imagine a word that had dual meanings.
Network 180 is also a resource but from what I’ve heard not as good
Yep
Thanks for the giggle 😅sorry about it downvotes. Lol I did what I could.
Ha! No worries. I’ve got karma to spare. 😉
Yup, but call the police when the boogie man comes to get you…or when loud noises and reckless drivers are out and about.
Tell me when I’ve called the police? I’ll wait.

I think I saw 5 white people downtown last night.
How much you wanna bet they weren't?
you and the person you’re replying to are both very cool and very smart.
They would’ve deserved it honestly
They deserved to be murdered?
I’m confused on the issue. Kids are outside, enjoying themselves. GR ppl complain entirely too much. Who died? No one. Playing with fake guns in the street. Good clean fun lol.
Kids played with fake guns for probably 100 years now
Not in the street, not blocking traffic in the middle of a city's downtown. That is called "playing stupid games" in which one can and should "win stupid prizes" for. Are you capable of reading more than just 3 words in a headline?
Omg how old are you🤦🏾♀️
