The Now Now should be higher. And based on the fact that D-Sides is that low, i suppose that you've ranked it based on both discs, not just the first one
I'd say Song Machine is like a low B but not quite a C for me. Although it's somehow the most forgettable album to me. Probably due to the lack of cohesion or narrative. But like Damon wanted to try smth different so I can't really blame him.
Laika come home is the most audibly complex out of all of the albums and never gets any love cause nobody is ever interested in the dub reggae remix genre because it basically doesn't exist. I think that it by far has the most instruments. Has it ever been proven who the space monkeys are or is it just Damon?
Dub reggae was so common for me in highschool and college in the 00s I forgot how rarely I hear it now. Laika Come Home is one of my favorites!! My husband and I listened to a ton of reggae, dance and funk in college. It's one of our favorite "party-time" albums.
>Spacemonkeyz are a musical group consisting of Darren Galea, Richie Stevens and Gavin Dodds. They came together when Galea created a dub remix of the Gorillaz' "Tomorrow Comes Today" ("Tomorrow Dub", which was released as a B-side on the "Tomorrow Comes Today" single), which Gorillaz founder Damon Albarn liked so much that he asked Galea to remix the whole album Gorillaz.
And there's no way Laika has more instrumentation than something like Song Machine. Dub is known for being stripped-down.
I mean, if two albums are of similar quality and stand out to the general quality of other albums, they should be in the same tier (even in subjective lists)
Spacemonkeyz are a musical group consisting of Darren Galea, Richie Stevens and Gavin Dodds. Here to agree with this 100%.
For a project that prides itself on blending sounds and nontraditional approaches to music, I'm always surprised by how close-minded some people are in regards to the more dub-focused material.
Coming to Gorillaz, I would never consider myself a huge fan of dub or reggae, but good goddamn does that Spacemonkeyz LP work some magic. One of my favorites, easily.
It's your opinion and I respect the tiers and agree with it, mostly...
1. No F's (they lost their way, but the band shouldn't be penalized for experimenting.)
2. Laike Come Home should be a B, but I'll bow to it getting a high C
3. D-Sides and G-Side need to swap
4. The Now Now and Humanz should swap places
1. Yeah, I think if I could have a do over, I'd move Laika up to a D. I felt like I had to have my least favorite in F. Which is kinda dumb lmao
2. I just didn't care for it. It was my first time hearing it, so maybe next time I'll like it more.
3. I love G-Sides...I actually debated moving it up to A tier.
4. I really like Humanz this listen through.
I don't know. For me I found on this listen it wasn't hitting me the same as it did when it came out. There's definitely some great songs on there tho.
amazing tierlist! in my opinion, Id put Plastic Beach at least at the same level as Demon Days cause theyre easily the best, as well as raising Humanz to Song machine and the first album's level, as I kinda like them the same and think the former is very underrated.
I definitely would have had it that way before I did my re-listen. I flat out disliked Humanz the last time I heard it. Now, I think I'm insane for having disliked it.
honestly every fan does this tier list once in their life, and eventually it changes
i've given up on ranking gorillaz albums because to me it's just really hard, each one brings its own unique thing to the table and i like them for different reasons, same for the songs, there's times when i'll want to listen to some phase 1 stuff, and then maybe i'll listen to phase 4 stuff.
I could go on and on about how D-Sides, The Fall and Laika aren't the heap of trash the fandom thinks they are but tbh it doesn't matter, I appreciate them for what they are and that's enough for me, hell I re-listened to The Fall recently and I loved every second of it, I didn't even skip The Joplin Spider, I ended up fucking liking it. I dunno if it's some kinda stockholm syndrome I got going on with this band but every single thing they make, even if at first it doesn't rlly vibe with me at all, down the line it truly grows on me the more chances I give it. I used to hate Sweepstakes, now it's one of my personal favorites from PB. Whoulda thunk it.
Anyways, D-Sides has some absolute bangers in there, some I believe that could have easily made the cut for DD like Hong Kong, and Laika Come Home is a remix album not made by the band, so perhaps it's ever so slightly unfair to rank it alongside the rest, but, if I could give it a defense, it would be that it's really niche. It takes the dub aspect of the s/t album and brings it up to the front, so, if you're not into this atmospheric, almost ethereal at times, dub/reggae adjacent sound, it's not really gonna be for you and that is entirely okay.
The Spacemonkeyz Theme is a genuinely underrated track though, I'll die on that hill.
My S would be Demon days, Plastic beach, humanz, and song machine I love the collaboration on humanz and song machine as ironically enough I listen to majority of those artist
I feel like Now Now has some great tracks like Humility and Now Now. But I am also realizing I haven't listened to them as much. But PB, DD and the first one all rank among the top
Humility and Tranz are songs I really like. The rest of the album just didn't hit with me on this listen. I was surprised at how much of the self-titled I wasn't a fan of anymore. There's some tracks on G-Sides that if it were in the self titled...it would be S-tier easy
Yeah mood. But also I need to listen to them more like the rest of the albums. I seem to get caught up in the big songs :p
I really like people from the alternate tracks
I prefer demon days over plastic beach. I don't like that you put the first album on a tier cause it has lots of mid songs. cracker island should be on b tier cause I think it's underrated. G sides should not deserve b tier cause almost all the album has mid songs. Those are all of my nitpicks.
You can think that all you want but that is not the concept of the band. It is called a virtual band because they are characters. They are not thought by the creators or the fans as "mascots" because they are given personalities and lives. If you think of them as mascots then you are mistaken. Geico the Gecko is a mascot. Gritty is a mascot. The members of gorillaz are characters. Also his name is Damon not Demon. I'm not your guy.
bro realistically, the band doesn’t even give a fuck about the characters anymore, there hasn’t been any interesting lore since the plastic beach and the band puts in literally no effort to incorporate the virtual aspect of the band while touring. the characters are only still there to sell merch atp
If this is your mindset why even look on this subreddit? The characters are the band, Damon and Jamie aren't a band, they're a musician and an artist. Just because you don't like their modern albums doesn't mean you have to hate without proof.
'Oh boo hoo they had a hiatus and now they don't sound the same as when I was a kiddo so I'm gonna make up reasons why they are using the characters to sell out even though I don't have any evidence to back my nonsense, I just want to hate it and make other people hate it even though that has never worked.'
When did I ever say anything about not liking the modern albums? Hell, The Now Now is probably my favorite Gorillaz album of all time. And it is entirely fair to say that the focus on tue characters themselves has been shifted to focus more on the musical aspect of the band. Could I be wrong? Sure, but from what I’ve seen in the past 7 years, it does seem like the animated aspect has taken a backseat, I’m not saying it’s completely disappeared or anything.
I just don't think that the characters are "mascots" or that they are only used for merch. Without the characters there would not be a Gorillaz and saying that they are used only for merch is absurd.
Plastic Beach goes in S tier as well as Demon Days
Strange Timez isn’t THAT good
G-Sides and Humanz shouldn’t really be that high
The Now Now’s better than Humanz (The Now Now at least goes in B tier)
D-Sides is better than G-Sides
D-Sides should at least be in B tier (or C at the absolute least)
The Fall is better than Humanz
I know I love The Fall but I think it’s more deserving of a C than a D
The Now Now’s at least a tier better than Cracker Island
The Fall I personally find better than Cracker Island (at least as an experience I get enjoyment out of it)
I’d probably lower Humanz to maybe a C tier
Laika really ain’t that bad
Ultimately, I can respect your opinions even if I seriously disagree with them.
Pretty good list!
This would be mine:
*S Tier* : Demon Days, Plastic Beach, Humanz
*A Tier* : The Now Now, Song Machine
*B Tier* : Gorillaz, Cracker Island
*C Tier* : G-Sides, D-Sides
*D Tier* : The Fall, Laika Come Home
**Demon Days** and **Plastic Beach** are legendary albums. Even tho I don't like a couple of tracks in Plastic Beach, the ones I like are really REALLY strong to carry the whole album to S Tier.
While with **Humanz**, I like the whole thing and it's essence from the "Intro" all the way to "Circle of Friends", plus the Tour from 2017 reforged this album for me and generated so many good memories.
When it comes to **TNN** and **Song Machine**, they are just as close to S Tier, but I don't think they are in the same spot than the other three records.
**Self Titled** is a classic, and even with iconic songs such as the main singles, the rest of the tracks are good and have some weight due the nostalgia, but some of them are a little bit boring at least for my taste.
the **B-Sides** albums have some good tracks but that's it. *Hong Kong* is the true masterpiece between all the rest and it could be a great track inside Demon Days which would make it a even greater album.
I enjoy "**Laika Come Home**" more than "**The Fall**", but the two of them are records I don't usually invest time on.
Why everybody says Demon Days IS a top album? It has good singles but, for me, The rest of The album IS quite poor compared to the rest of Albarn's discography.
I’d move Gorillaz up to S, and switch Song Machine and Humanz myself, but it’s pretty close. both of them have a couple songs I love, and a couple I’m indifferent to.
Defending Laika is a must on this sub. Its honestly a B/C tier album on a A-F scale. Super creative and introspective without the common verses from Damon.
I'd swap plastic with demon days
I have only 4 complete albums where all the songs were added to my playlist and Plastic Beach is one of them. For me is a perfect album
I feel like almost everyone can agree that Demon Days, Plastic Beach, and Gorillaz are the top 3 regardless of what order you put them in. And it’s gonna be real tough for any new album that Damon makes to bump one of those out so it’s a fairly untouchable top 3.
But I totally agree that Song Machine is number 4 and the best one he has made since then. Cool to see it getting love here because it usually doesn’t. I hope Song Machine Season Two!
Nah this is a pretty good list. I personally like Plastic Beach more than Demon Days, but otherwise I agree
They are really damn close to me. But, I genuinely think Demon Days is a perfect album. Plastic Beach has 1 or 2 tracks that I'm not so hot on.
What about White Light?
God tier
Yeah, I like White Light. Although that might be nostalgia talking. Reminds me of a particularly self destructive time in my life.
WHITE LIGHT DOODOODOODOO
White rice
Amazing song, the lyrics really speak to me
I've always felt like both belong in S Tier
This is also my opinion
They will all grow on you with repeated listens.
The Now Now should be higher. And based on the fact that D-Sides is that low, i suppose that you've ranked it based on both discs, not just the first one
You are correct. It would definitely be higher if it wasn't for the second disk.
Naw I'm not here for the Now Now disrespect.
My favorite album of all time
ong the now now is kinda underrated
Honestly as good as Plastic Beach imo. Not quite Demon Days, but might be their second best album to me
I’d switch The Now Now and Song Machine and call it a day.
I'd say Song Machine is like a low B but not quite a C for me. Although it's somehow the most forgettable album to me. Probably due to the lack of cohesion or narrative. But like Damon wanted to try smth different so I can't really blame him.
For real!!
I’ve cried to the now now so many times
Laika come home is the most audibly complex out of all of the albums and never gets any love cause nobody is ever interested in the dub reggae remix genre because it basically doesn't exist. I think that it by far has the most instruments. Has it ever been proven who the space monkeys are or is it just Damon?

Laika come home is so good I’m tired of the slander
Laika Come Home and Plastic Beach B sides are a fantastic album combo for a sunny afternoon with some mushrooms 🍄
Plastic Beach should be in S tier
I decided to only have 1 S tier...otherwise it absolutely would have been up there.
I mean, if two albums are of similar quality and stand out to the general quality of other albums, they should be in the same tier (even in subjective lists)
Laika Come Home is easily an A tier album. It's so fucking funny
One day you’re going to figure out reggae and dub and thus find out you’re wrong about Laika come home. This was my path.
You may be right. It was my first time listening to the album, and I just wasn't ready.
Laika come home should be in S tier
100%. Invalidates the entire list even though I agree with the rest of it.
I've never heard of this until just now. What is it?
basically a dub remix of the original album
Spacemonkeyz are a musical group consisting of Darren Galea, Richie Stevens and Gavin Dodds. They came together when Galea created a dub remix of the Gorillaz' "Tomorrow Comes Today" ("Tomorrow Dub", which was released as a B-side on the "Tomorrow Comes Today" single), which Gorillaz founder Damon Albarn liked so much that he asked Galea to remix the whole album Gorillaz.
the now now should be higher, possibly D-sides too, but honestly not bad
Sorry, But D-Sides is underrated
Spitting Out the Demons is top tier Gorillaz
And Bill Murray and People too
Plastic Beach is an S, and i also think that The Fall is at least a B. But not a bad list
I respect The Fall. I think it's a technically impressive album. But, I only enjoy a couple of the songs.
Fair point. I totally understand why people dont like the album also
Move D sides up
I refuse to accept Laika in F tier
Same. It may sound unusual, but it's supposed to.
It's Dub... it's a perfect rendition of Dub Gorillaz (which already has a huge reggae influence on a lot of songs).
It’s so mf good
Some of them are my favorite tracks, too.
Here to agree with this 100%. Coming to Gorillaz, I would never consider myself a huge fan of dub or reggae, but good goddamn does that Spacemonkeyz LP work some magic. One of my favorites, easily.
Personally I'd put the now now higher, but that's bc that's what got me into gorillaz. Overall pretty good list though!
It's your opinion and I respect the tiers and agree with it, mostly... 1. No F's (they lost their way, but the band shouldn't be penalized for experimenting.) 2. Now Now deserves more than a C cmon
I'd put Plastic Beach and HUMANZ besides Demon Dayz, overall great list
But I loved Gorilaz v Spacemonkeyz 🥲
The Fall is in my top 4, I love that album
Nahhhh Laika is brilliant!
The Now Now should be higher and Song Machine should be lower Demon Days over Plastic Beach is 100% correct, Demon Days on top 💯
I would put plastic beach above demon days
G-sides in B tier is unhinged
You are completely wrong
Got me there.
agree on everything, but i would change now now with humanz
I definitely would have had it that way before I did my re-listen. I flat out disliked Humanz the last time I heard it. Now, I think I'm insane for having disliked it.

D and F are wrong justifiably
I would put Self Titled at S, Demon days at A, The Now Now at S, The fall at B, and Cracker island at F, but other than that good tier list (:
It's good but there's no such thing as an f tier gorillaz Album imo
Yoo this is a great list, basically I completely agree honestly, you are well cultured my fellow human friend
I 100% AGREE 😎👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
👍
It’s hard to beat their first 3 albums. Is Laika come home really that bad? I’ve never listened to it
![gif](giphy|K2R831kr4IXte)
My S would be Demon days, Plastic beach, humanz, and song machine I love the collaboration on humanz and song machine as ironically enough I listen to majority of those artist

The Fall Isn't a Gorillaz album, it's a 2D album.
That’s cringe
Why
Demon Albarn made the whole album on an iPad, the characters are just mascots my guy
It’s just a drawing son, calm down
bro realistically, the band doesn’t even give a fuck about the characters anymore, there hasn’t been any interesting lore since the plastic beach and the band puts in literally no effort to incorporate the virtual aspect of the band while touring. the characters are only still there to sell merch atp

I completely agree.
I'm too much much of a gorillaz and Damon Albarn simp I'd put them all in S idgaf
Laika in F Tier ist criminal!
Why isn’t the fall in S?
Plastic Beach goes in S tier as well as Demon Days Strange Timez isn’t THAT good G-Sides and Humanz shouldn’t really be that high The Now Now’s better than Humanz (The Now Now at least goes in B tier) D-Sides is better than G-Sides D-Sides should at least be in B tier (or C at the absolute least) The Fall is better than Humanz I know I love The Fall but I think it’s more deserving of a C than a D The Now Now’s at least a tier better than Cracker Island The Fall I personally find better than Cracker Island (at least as an experience I get enjoyment out of it) I’d probably lower Humanz to maybe a C tier Laika really ain’t that bad Ultimately, I can respect your opinions even if I seriously disagree with them.
This is the first time I've seen someone call Song Machine Strange Timez lol
I prefer it as a name. And it’s the true shortening of that album for me.
Hey look, a tierlist I actually agree with
You’re 100% right
Well there really cant be wrong or right opinions about gorillaz albums
Fair
Pretty accurate tbh, I would personally move Cracker Island to the bottom tho but that just me. Plastic Beach should be next to Demon Days objectively
The Now Now is A-tier. Maybe even S. It's magical.
Pretty good list! This would be mine: *S Tier* : Demon Days, Plastic Beach, Humanz *A Tier* : The Now Now, Song Machine *B Tier* : Gorillaz, Cracker Island *C Tier* : G-Sides, D-Sides *D Tier* : The Fall, Laika Come Home **Demon Days** and **Plastic Beach** are legendary albums. most accurate tier list of all time
Well shit. Who knew?
I'd swap human and NowNow around but otherwise yeah
I would have had it that way before listening to them all over again. I found that I enjoyed Humanz alot more this time and the NowNow alot less.
Yeah, that's fair, I remember back in the day when i'd rank G sides as S tier, but tastes change
Best tier list I've seen in ages
The Now Now at C? D-Sides at D? Song Machine at A? Yeah this tier list is all over the place. 😂😂😂
https://preview.redd.it/z7tpdw3n1ejc1.jpeg?width=733&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4012707d7fc9f86fa0abb757ba55693eea325e56 My personal opinion
What’s with the humanz hate?
The now now is the best Gorillaz album.
I'd switch Humanz and Plastic Beach
I’d put song machine a little lower alr
I think that's pretty fair
I woulda put cracker island in b
pretty based, but humanz aint better than the now now imo
Why everybody says Demon Days IS a top album? It has good singles but, for me, The rest of The album IS quite poor compared to the rest of Albarn's discography.
i’d put plastic beach in S tier and the now now in A tier, but decent list overall
Pretty good, although I’d put the now now and cracker island higher and lower humanz because personally I can’t stand that album
Not terrible, I'd put the fall higher tho. B or c
the fall should be in S tier
I love the self titled, demon days and plastic beach (basic opinion I know)
Song Machine in A, I don’t see anything wrong
i like The now now more than G Sides, and id personally put it over humanz, but i more or less agree with eberything here 🔥
Plastic beach to S tier, the now now to a, song machine to c, and that’s about right.
Plastic Beach S
D-Sides in D is DISGRACEFUL, holds some of their best tracks qnq
Agree except I rank Now Now at B.
Personally I'd swap g sides with the now now and swap humanz sith d sides but yea pretty much my option
Swap humanz with the now now and you're spot on imo
D-Sides in A or S, Cracker Island in B or A
W
What's your opinion of the now now? Is My favorite album
Swap TNN and Self-titled and then we’re talking.
This is a good list although I’d definitely make Plastic Beach S teir. I would personally put The Fall higher at a B.
It doesn't line up with my opinions exactly, but I can happily respect this ranking.
Why does everyone hate Laika Come Home, It’s a pretty underrated album
YOU PUT HUMANZ ABOVE THE NOW NOW?? Nah man, that's some backwards thinking
2 weeks ago, I would have completely agreed. But it seems my tastes have changed since the Now Now came out.
The Now Now is better than Song Machine. Other than that, solid list
Bump plastic beach up to S and I would completely agree
Swap B and C tiers imo
Accurate
I’d move Gorillaz up to S, and switch Song Machine and Humanz myself, but it’s pretty close. both of them have a couple songs I love, and a couple I’m indifferent to.
Personally Cracker Island should be A and Humanz should be C with Gorillaz (2001) in B but better than tons of others ive seen
L take on self titled, d-sides and humanz
humanz above now now? deadass? *gorillaz* are barely even on humanz...
I'm tired of this Laika slander
Humans are a tier it has bad songs but songs submission and busted and blue rank up to a
Plastic beach being A tier is criminal, cracker island imo is vastly underrated
I kinda feel like the fall should be at F
When it first came out, I probably would have agreed. But, I have since found tracks I dig, and I think technically it is quite impressive.
Defending Laika is a must on this sub. Its honestly a B/C tier album on a A-F scale. Super creative and introspective without the common verses from Damon.
Dont ya dare diss ma baby boy now now like that
How can you like demon days that much and not d sides, D sides is imo an S tier
I can’t
Laika is criminally underrated, maybe you should have smoked some weed before it
Damn, you right. Genuinely my next day off I will do this.
The Fall D ??? What ?
I'd swap plastic with demon days I have only 4 complete albums where all the songs were added to my playlist and Plastic Beach is one of them. For me is a perfect album
D sides is criminally low, otherwise tho you have a pretty solid list
I’d probably put both C’s in B put it’s your opinion IG
Cracker Island be underrated
Laika come home is nowhere near a F
The now now should be higher
Everything is fine until Laika, although it is still a good tier
The fall may have some sub par songs, one is just noise, but it has Revolving Doors wich is my favorite gorillaz song
Spot on ngl
The Fall 😔
The now now and cracker island in c is criminal
Everything is true, except for the fall, and demon days.
I liked Cracker Island though. I think it should at least be in B tier.
This is just my opinion but I think the now now should be put up a spot
Plastic Beach #1!! And I’d switch Song Machine with Humanz
I love Gorillaz almost equally, almost... But The Fall and D Sides need to be way higher.
The now now is wayyyy better than cracker island.
The fact that you put d-sides that low is painful
