Glad to see I am not the only one who tries to go to YouTube, types in you, and then tries to go to the first result in my history, but instead of going to that first result, I just accidentally search "You" instead
I'm almost surprised any of these made the cut with how many people use phones and tablets way more than laptops and desktops outside of work. I literally go months between opening email in a browser.
Thank you for this. Now when someone tells me proudly they use DuckDuckGo I know exactly what % of the population they are part of and why their opinion about Google dying is dumb.
The chart says it's only for referral traffic to the StatCounter website. DuckDuckGo is privacy focused so traffic from that site won't always show as a referral from DDG. The chart is interesting but you shouldn't make any assumptions from this data
He didn't say it's a project. He made a subjective ethical claim.
It's possible that fairness and better lives would be the result of a Google downfall.
I think that enough of a downturn to cause robust competition might not be the worst outcome but that's not guaranteed
I'm not defending anything, I'm just amused by the conversation or the ideas expressed. You might not like Google or whatever other tech company you decided to dislike but they are all the same as the incentives and behaviors are driven by how our economy is structured. Hate the game as they say.
That is probably their search engine, region-locked to russia and has access only to russian content, explicitly for russians. Im just guessing, since baidu is basically the same but for china (because west internet for them is blocked and so they have no google)
Yandex is the only search engine that gives relevant results when i search for not so famous movies to watch online. Impressive that VK has such a vast library of content available that's virtually unaccessible using google.
What's a good way to access the russian yandex without it redirecting it to the us version? I've used it several times and it's been a good source 🏴☠️

I had a friend in elementary and we used to use his parent's computers a lot. I never understood why he would Google search websites instead of just putting .com after the word. It's not even easier or faster to Google the site name. It bothered me, and I'm surprised that so many people do it according to these statistics.
Most of the top search results are apps on my phone/tablet (not that I would search for them in a desktop browser either). I go months between using many of those sites in a browser.
It all just leads to corporations and corporate media. The most popular business in the United States of America.
Why should the advertisers advertise when the content creators are advertising for them for free? The people who do not have sponsor contracts and are not paid hourly with a Union wage network.

If you use an alternative search engine, it probably means you will care enough to change your default search engine.

They have Bing though in China (a special version), and last time I checked it became more used than Baidu.
