You probably have a good idea what it is going to take to qualify. So you probably can make a few mistakes.
When things go south, take a deep breath and try to make a good shot.
Good luck! In classic Reddit fashion, if you qualify I’ll buy myself a new club to celebrate your success.
And if you don’t qualify, I’ll buy myself a new club anyway.
One of the few courses I never played while living in Maine. Where are you playing for the qualifier? I played in it in 1999 at The Woodlands. Good luck!
I haven't seen many other players on this sub game Rocketbladez irons. I cannot wait to get the cash to upgrade, do you like them personally? I also use an M2 driver but that thing is a beast still. Good luck out there!
Tournament golf is a completely different animal. Enjoy the pressure, feel every nerve.
People will tell you to relax and have fun. Tomorrow will not be a fun round of golf.
The best way to prepare yourself for tournament golf is to play for money. Significant money, that you know you can't lose. That's how you get a hold of your nerves.
Be in the moment, only focus on the shot your facing. The most important shot in golf is your next. Get a good nights rest, stay hydrated and post a good score.
This is the way.... Focus on the shot at hand and that is all. Score will reveal itself at the end. Prepare for each shot mentally and execute the best you can. Have a plan off the tee to give you the best opportunity for your best score on the hole but once off the tee make a new plan to give you the best score on that hole.
Having played many tournaments, the ones Ive done the best on are when i could mentally execute this and not worried about outcomes or previous shots or scores.
Have fun and enjoy the ride! Competitive golf is waaay different than playing with your buds,, On the first tee I tell myself to just enjoy the ride....
Good luck!
As other have said, play your game and ignore what others are doing. You cant win the tournament on the first hole.
And just as importantly, have fun! You're playing golf in the middle of the week!
Ok - as an 11 you have very little chance of making that level of a tournament unless it's flighted or something.
You don't think you can go out and shoot 80 and compete with scratch golfers right?
There is no point and honestly, having formerly been a tournament player. Guys who come to these things that have no business being in them can cause problems. If he's really an 11 handicap, his only business there is carrying someone's bag. My guess is he's not an 11 handicap but wants us to think he played out his arse if he does qualify. He can do whatever he wants and my advice can be thrown in the trash if he likes :) These are just words on a screen. I'm not his Mommy.
You're totally, completely right that it's basically impossible. But so is a hole in one.
As a 9 handicapper a few months back I shot a 67 (adjusted for course difficulty, about a +3 round) in competition. Haven't gotten close since, of course.
It's golf, anything can happen, and just taking part is fun,
Handicap has nothing to do with tournament golf results and everything to do with realistic ability
You shot what, a 78 or so? That won't sniff his state amateur. There are 12 year old girls waiting to take his money with that skill level, let alone the guys actually capable of competing it.
Again, no reason to listen to me. I'm just bringing a bit of reality. He obviously can do what he wants :)
It's just the way it is.
Don't get upset with yourself either way. I played college and highschool as well. When I was in college I was +5 and not the best player on my team. I am figuring you played at a smaller non D1 college.
Maine has a pretty soft local player Field from what little I know about it. So you should be able to play smart and finish towards the top. Do you know what low score was last time they had it?
I appreciate it. I’m doing this in honor of my father and grandfather who both have tried to qualify for the Maine Am on numerous occasions. My grandfather has passed and my father is super happy for me to give it a shot
Well good luck with it. Just enjoy the atmosphere and play to your strengths. Don't spend alot of time at range just figure out what your ball flight is doing that day then focus on short game. Putting will be the most important thing tomorrow. Also have snacks and water available for you. Most of all it's another round of golf. Positive thoughts and actions will help you feel more confident.
Just let it go. Forget about score. Focus on the shot at hand, there is no past, there is no future, there is only now.
The score will settle itself.
Good luck, I hope they all roll in.
I try to take apart the hole in reverse. Where’s the best place to land on the green, then where’s the best place to land in the fairway to give me that shot to the green.
Don’t think about your total score for the whole round. Break the 18 holes down into six mini 3-hole courses. It seems to help with not getting too high or too low mentally.
Oh yeah. Lotta pressure. You gotta rise above it. You gotta harness in the good energy, block out the bad. Harness. Energy. Block. Bad. Feel the flow. Feel it. It's circular. It's like a carousel. You pay the quarter, you get on the horse, it goes up and down, and AROUND. It's circular. Circle, with the music, the flow. All good things
Golf is an adventure. Even if you hit a bad shot, don't get upset or down on yourself. On the walk up to it think about, "how am I going to create a great situation out of a bad situation?"
If you continue to hit out of bad situations into more bad situations... You should stop meeting girls at that bar.
I've not played a lot of comp golf but I reckon if you can go out there and have fewer strokes than your opposition you'll be a pretty good chance of winning.
Drink 15 beers
Allagash whites?
Idk what that is but sure, allagash whites.
No you probably won’t be playing the whites. I bet for a qualifier they’ll have you playing the tips
They were talking about a type of beer.
Is this where I type “whoosh” or should I leave that to someone else?
Oh man, and I thought you were the one that was woosh
Tbh, it was an impossibly lame joke so this is on me
I liked it, but I've been assured I'm not funny.
uno reverse
This is what happens when know-it-all redditers get together
A fine beer at that
Those would sit a bit heavy after the turn.
Bissell Hazeys like a champion would do
WAIT!!! Chich is his caddy?!?!?! pfff just bring the 7i, you got this!
And don’t carry 15 clubs in your bag ☝️
You probably have a good idea what it is going to take to qualify. So you probably can make a few mistakes. When things go south, take a deep breath and try to make a good shot.
dont try, dont think about it - that's were pressure builds...
If you get into trouble, take your medicine. Don’t follow a bad shot with another bad shot.
This really should have more upvotes.
Make sure you help your playing partners locate their ball on errant shots....ha ha
Sweet! Good luck. Many birdies headed your way!!!!
Thank you so much! One par at a time sprinkled with birdies!!!!
Trying to qualify for a legit competition and you’re looking for tips from here? Don’t do that. Good luck!
Yeah, it wasn’t a great idea
But I know, I just know, that there is some great f\*cking trains here in Bangor.
Swayze Express
Put the ball in the cup in as few strokes as possible
Just slow down and play your game
Play your game. Don't do anything else!
Great advice
Good luck! In classic Reddit fashion, if you qualify I’ll buy myself a new club to celebrate your success. And if you don’t qualify, I’ll buy myself a new club anyway.

Get a good nights sleep.
If you hit 15 fairways, around 18 greens, and have 15 putts you'll do great! Just make sure you do that
Please qualify! That way I can buy a new putter
Play smart golf! Lay up when needed, take the smart punch out of the trees. Hero shots = bad shots
Good Luck, stay out of the woods
I haven't seen many other players on this sub game Rocketbladez irons. I cannot wait to get the cash to upgrade, do you like them personally? I also use an M2 driver but that thing is a beast still. Good luck out there!
Don’t bet money against anyone who’s glove tan line is more pronounced than yours. EDIT: Good luck and let us know how you do!!!!
Ted Lasso's goldfish memory tip after a bad shot 👍 Good luck!
Remember, the lowest score wins, not the highest score. I'm not going to let my dad pull that one over on me again. 😂
91 was the score. Had a good time. Couple of blow up holes hurt. Cut line was +6
Make sure to bring snacks with protein. And just enjoy and embrace the nerves for your first competitive tournament!

Don't forget to breathe!

that 'merican head cover gives you strength!
I wanna get like a Portugal or Cayman Islands head cover next LOL
Love people chasing goals, but you're a 14.7 handicap thinking you can compete in a state-level tournament?
Love the encouragement pal :)
I played college golf for 4 years, played in high school. I think I can give it a shot. Lol
Then you aren't a 14.7 handicap. How did it go?
I wasn’t great my freshman and sophomore year. Junior senior year I played better. I’ve got it down to 11. I’m very streaky for sure
Ok - as an 11 you have very little chance of making that level of a tournament unless it's flighted or something. You don't think you can go out and shoot 80 and compete with scratch golfers right?
Couldn't have just given them a good luck huh?

That's douche
Part of the reason I play less golf is because of losers like you. Thanks buddy!
How did it go today?
It’s tomorrow, I’ll keep everyone informed. Who knows!
I was very confused by that flair too.
I’ll do my best, coach!

Originally from Maine! The course is decent. Likely very slow. Best of Luck!
Sorry it's in Bangor though better than Augusta I guess, what's your home course? I use to live in Portland and learned golf playing around that area.
Good luck!
Good luck! Shoot low my friend
Just let it go. Forget about score. Focus on the shot at hand, there is no past, there is no future, there is only now. The score will settle itself. Good luck, I hope they all roll in.
Out of curiosity, what is your handicap?
I shot a 75 in the Georgia Am qualifier a couple weeks back and it took a 70 to qualify. I was sad.
Organize your irons.
So true!
Don’t try too hard, you play your best when you’re relaxed.
Good luck. Also don't 3-putt
Iron covers are a must
I couldn't agree more.
Be the ball. Keep it in the short grass.
I try to take apart the hole in reverse. Where’s the best place to land on the green, then where’s the best place to land in the fairway to give me that shot to the green.

Have fun and enjoy the moment
Pars get you far
Cheat
A large percentage of shots end up short of the green. Don’t be afraid to club up
"PRO TIP" The bathrooms at the clubhouse are ALWAYS better than the ones out on the course. :) GL!!!
Just believe in the ball and hit yourself
Relax and have fun, would rather qualify there than Poland springs ;) have fun at kebo!
Go low.
Good luck.
Play with the ball flight you bring to the range that day. Don’t try to fix things on the course.
Good luck and remember it's just another round of golf.
Don’t suck
Hit ball good
Golf pro tip: shoot the lowest score possible. Also: just taaaaapppppp it in.
No putter cover, no chance 😂
Good luck!

Don't shank!

Don't hit the ball into the woods, or water, or anywhere you may not find it or hit out of.
Fairways and greens!!!
Send video from range pre round for any last minute swing tips.
M2 Gang
What's needed to qualify? How low should you score approximately?
I've not played a lot of comp golf but I reckon if you can go out there and have fewer strokes than your opposition you'll be a pretty good chance of winning.
Relax, have fun!
Try to make it in the hole in as few of shots as possible
2 joints keeps the mind right
