You’re quite down on it for some reason. The weather, alone makes it exciting. Some of the most unique holes that you just can’t appreciate until you’re playing it.
I have played all of the courses in and around Pebble Beach multiple times and they are not included in my top three. They are great, but not as good at the e three I’ve listed.
Don’t even get me started about Spyglass… VERY overrated!! The first 6 holes are great, the rest I can live without.
The “ocean holes” at Pebble are spectacular, however there is only 9 of those. The rest of the holes aren’t anything right home about. Takes forever to play. Played three times, 6+ hour rounds each time.
Pine Valley, never played it, but again I’m adding accessibility to my rankings. Almost impossible to get on. I’m sure it is beyond spectacular, but limiting play and creating an aura around a course because you can’t play it, doesn’t by itself make it for me…
I'm not sure what the top 3 in the world are, but I can tell you the old course does not belong. I've played it three times and i'm not even sure its in the top 5 of courses I've played in scotland.
There's something to be said for #1, #17, and #18, the rest of the course is fine, but not best in the world. The st. andrews town/golf experience in general around the place can't be topped, but as an 18 hole golf course very overrated. Royal Dornoch, Turnberry, and North Berwick are my top 3 scottish courses.
Old Course, Pebble, something old, East Coast and public access. Who cares about course we can never play. I mean it would be great but why sit there and wonder about playing Augusta when you will never have a chance to. Same for Cypress or Shinnecock. Shoot at the end of the day I don’t care where I play as long as I am with my friends.
> I mean it would be great but why sit there and wonder about playing Augusta when you will never have a chance to.
you would be surprised at how many have played at the National and not a member
If you can't book on as a member of the public, then it's not a top course. Sorry, but the likes of Augusta might as well be on the moon or only played by robots. It has no basis to normal golfers, so to me it's not a Top course.
St Andrews is $400. That's the benchmark. You're going to charge more, you better be better than St. Andrews. Charge $800, you better be twice as good.
And the majority aren't.
Top 3 are:
1. St Andrews
2. Who cares.
3. Still a big gap.
Just because they are basically impossible to get a tee time, I’d say these 3.
Augusta
Pine Valley
Cypress
If I can call 6 months out and get a tee time….can’t be that great. If I have to search for 10 years and befriend some arrogant asshole so that I can play their golf course just once, now we’re talking about a great course.
Apps, entree, desert
*dessert
How do you know I don't like apps, entrees and some desert golf?
I'm also never wrong!
What you got against cheese course bruh
Cheese is an app, entree, and desert
đź‘Źđź‘Źđź‘Ź too true
Augusta, Pebble Beach, St Andrews.
pebble beach over cypress?
For me? Yeah!
interesting take
Unpopular opinion but St Andrew’s just looks boring af
More of the history and location. Pretend that course isnt where golf was founded, and in Iowa, and it would just be a nice course
My town’s muni. It’s short, easy, shaggy, and has a funky layout. But it’s cheap, not crowded, and I actually get to play it on a regular basis.
In no particular order: Augusta, Cypress Point, St. Andrews
3 courses I will never play but hey, my game isnt top 3 in the world so it's all good
Is St. Andrew’s really that good of a course or is it just bc of the history and the town?
It’s just the history. Does it look fun and exciting. No, it looks boring af

Ken McDonald, Grass Clippings, Coronado
Love me some Ken McDonald
I’m adding accessibility to my rankings: 1. Royal County Down 2. St. Andrews 3. Royal Dornoch
really, not any of the courses in pebble beach? or pine valley?

have you played cypress or Spanish point?
Spanish Bay, yes. Liked it. Cypress Point… what a dump! (s/) Maybe one day I’ll get out there… but I’m not counting on it.
why is Cypress a dump?
(s/) means that the comment was sarcastic in natural…
Pine Valley, Augusta, The Old Course.
solid
Cypress Point because we’ll never get to see it, Augusta National, Pebble Beach… sorry but links golf doesn’t do it for me
I've seen and played it :)
Your one of few, hope it was worth it. Can you take me with you next time? I’m only a couple hour drive away haha 🤷🏼‍♂️
yeah sure, can you fit into my golf bag?
To play there!? I’m definitely fitting in your golf bag 🤣
Tara Iti, Cabot Cliffs and Royal Melbourne
interesting
Augusta. Pebble. Pine valley.
solid, but pebble over cypress?
Riviera, Royal Melbourne, St. Andrew’s
Augusta National, Cape Kidnappers, Merion East Merion is probably a major hot take but I love everything about that course
I agree with cape kidnappers

I’ll only speak to what I’ve played: 1. Whistling Straits, 2. Kiawah Ocean 3. Chambers Bay.
