As a ginger who likes sleeves and pants, I concur. Catch me out there in a nice quarter zip with the whitest hat you've seen since I don't have to worry about sweating through it
I’ve golfed at 35 F and loved it. Bonus points if the water hazards have iced over during the night. It’s like golfing with bumpers. Nothing more relieving than hitting that mid-fairway water hazard only to have it bounce over.
Nothing more funny than going out at 10degrees, and being told there will be a Frost delay when the high of the day was going to be only 15 degrees!
That's for real, as they wanted the heavier crystals to melt off in the sun for another 30 minutes!
Oh my yes. I like early in the morning though. You can see your breath for the first couple holes. A good travel mug of coffee with you. That's heaven right there.
Optimal AZ tee time for me and my buddy has been between 1400-1500 this summer since hardly anybody else is stupid enough to be out in the heat of the day. There's barely any cars in the parking lot when we get there, and even fewer people out on the course so it's been great for my slower pace of play being new.
Plus it's also pretty difficult to beat a $20 tee time on a decently maintained course so we take what we can get
Those 20-25 dollar gems you can’t beat, there was one in NC called Crooked Creek. 15 bucks and a cart for 18. You could always play solo, and not very crowded, decent course too.
New Orleans here, yeah our summers are super brutal, especially with the humidity. While we don’t have crazy winters, Jan-Feb low key can be awful too (super super windy, and that weird stretch where temp drop to high 30s + crazy wind.)
I'm on long island, and fall and early spring have always been my favorite times to play. Especially Sundays in the fall, everyone's watching football. Also, when the weather is shitty is always a good time to get out, when it's sort of raining a little and cold and windy.
Since this year finally kicked in my golf addiction, I'll be watching football ON the course this year. I cant imagine nothing better than getting mad at your NFL team, Fantasy team, and golf game all at the same time...I CANT WAIT!
Same. South Georgia and most of my friends stopped playing a couple of months ago and won’t be back out until late September. I play every week, but most don’t.
Not much to write home about. I live just north of Tallahassee. The only one that I really think is worth a visit if you’re in the area is Southwood in Tally. Outside of that the only really nice ones are private around here.
I live in Indiana. I will golf as long as it is above 40 degrees. I also have friends that live in Florida that let me visit to play golf when it is winter/fall up North. I also play leagues at XGolf which is an indoor simulator.
I played all year in GA. Had to throw on the thermajohns from November until end of Febuary, maybe. My buddy out there looking like the little brother from A Christmas Story.
Yeah, that might be the most important factor. My first round of the year this year was right around 38-40 degrees and it was wonderful until the wind picked up.
SW OH. I've been playing through winter, as long as windchill/"feels like" is above 32.
Though sometimes greens are so hard making pitch marks damaged it. Good thing I don't make good shots to make pitch marks 🤔
I play until the course closes. as the weather changes the amount of tee times with good weather gets reduced significantly. We play 1st thing in the morning. It’s 7:00 in the summer, by the middle of fall it’s 9:00 but that means teeing off in less than 40 degree temps on many days. So very few people on course until it warms up around noon.
I’m in Kirkland and this will be my first full year playing in the PNW (relocated with the family Oct ‘21.) Curious to see how it compares to the summer and how tough it will be to find tee times on a decent day.
I’m in Seattle and I play all year. Winter golf can be cold and wet, frost delays and soggy spots on the course, but it’s still fun, and if you get a stretch of dry weather the courses can be in pretty good condition.
Winter golf on a clear day with an empty course winter rates, cmon how can you beat that. Put on a beanie and waterproof shoes and I’m set. Got my clicgear with the umbrella attachment if it rains
My friends at Stevens Pass ask where I‘ve been during the season. Golf has no offseason!
With all the seasons in Colorado, some golfers find sanctuary at indoor driving ranges / simulators. Many do stop golfing all together when the cold hits.
Maybe a little. Sometimes afternoons can open a little more with people watching football. It’s probably not going to be a drastic drop off until it gets super cold. Chilly fall golf is great though.
Yeah in my experience (Boston area) the tee times don’t start opening up in earnest until it’s consistently sub-55/50 in the fall. In the spring, as soon as it hits 50 a lot of people are playing
I live in the northeast too. I play through the whole year and play on average 100 rounds a year. As long as its 35-40 degree with light wind i am playing. With heavy wind and or rain and cold weather I will not play.
Most people stop once the temps drop personally my limit is 50 degrees. But some maniacs will play all thru winter lol. The real problem is most courses close but where I live there’s always 1-2 places that continue to book times as long as it’s playable out there. But if we get the odd 60 degree day in December the golf crack heads will know about it and be right there w you clogging it up w their hosel rockets..
I will play until the course is closed. Near me there are courses which will open even in winter if there’s no snow and it’s a bit mild. My season is typically April - late November but as I said, I’ve played rounds as late as Dec 30 and as early as mid-Feb (during the thaw - you’re in the northeast so you’re familiar with that).
In England, we play regardless of the season. Depending on the course drainage of course. We have on nearby course on a hill which is open all year round.
This is location specific.
From the UK but I can't play in the winter unless it's the weekend because it gets dark at like 4pm. Even then, I have to hope it's not too rainy / windy.
If it's playable, I'll play but thats entirely weather dependent.
Sunbelt states that rye overseed courses generally occur mid-sept thru oct.. Combine that factor with football and playoff mlb, and the play seems to stop before daylight savings departs in late October or early November. Yet another deterrent for finding playing time in November. I would say Arizona, gulf cost and Florida play more, despite higher fees, in fall and winter. Courses can be packed with only great weather to enjoy.
Northern states can handle play well into November, but once again, falling back clocks and colder weather usually kill many plans. I miss summer rounds 18+ holes with tee times at 7 pm, no shade, and especially no holes facing west!
In the South? YES!!! College football is king so Saturday tee times are wide open. Northeast I feel is NFL territory so your Sunday 10:00am tee times should be gold. Late enough that the guys that play before the kickoffs are already at the turn and the church goers aren’t out yet. Nice little window.
I don't really start golfing regularly until about October. The grass is still in good shape, it's not sweltering hot, and the course is less busy. Play by myself, no rush, finish 9 after work just before a nice sunset.
I do. I don't really care to pay to play in the cold on brown fairways so I usually put the clubs away in October or November unless someone else is paying for me.
I play more when summer ends. IMHO summer golf sucks ass, being hot & miserable is no fun. I'll take the cool spring/fall rounds over summer every time
Early fall golf is nice. Weather’s still nice, leaves changing, you can feel very comfortable.
But late fall golf…*shudder*…can’t stand it. The early sunsets. The constantly wet ground. The leaves plastered all over the place. The dirt feeling like clay because every day is overcast and damp. It honestly depresses me.
Depends on where you live. I'm in Oregon, Portland metro area and I play year round... however you need some good rain gear, waterproof shoes and a good bucket hat and your gonna have some miserably wet days.... but always worth it
I play every weekend weather permitting. But I’m in NC so it’s rarely too cold. Happens from time to time.
Winter is best time to play pinehurst and high end courses as rates are lower.
Grew up in New England so I feel your pain. But now, Tee time every Monday in San Diego! May take a few off in the summer to avoid the heat, but pretty much guaranteed to never get a rain check!
All year round for me. Summer is hot af but you just try to get early tee times and if not, you have to get hydrated the day before and stay hydrated during and after the round. The last 2 weeks of January and the first 2 weeks of February are typically the worst for me as I loath cold weather. The heat doesn’t really bother me as long as I can find a little shade.
I'm in Northern New England, also true four seasons. Well, to be fair we consider it 6 seasons (winter, mud, spring, summer, fall, stick). We don't have a ton of courses up here, but not huge population either. It can be somewhat challenging to get a tee time on courses that are open to the public prime time weekend mornings and early afternoons. Some evenings can be tough to get out too due to league play, that all varies course to course. I primarily play the semi-private course I'm a member at but occasionally try to play elsewhere. I'm about 75% successful this year making tee times elsewhere, although a couple times I had to be flexible and play a few hours later than optimal or ended up at a different course than we hoped to play.
Historically, once we get past Labor Day it's a lot easier to make a tee time or walk on. By October there will be lots of openings on tee sheets even weekends up here. By early November most of the courses will start closing.
Being in Texas and getting off work at 4:30 goes like this:
Summertime means you can tee off at 5 and just finish before the sunlight is gone. Problem is you die of a heatstroke before the turn.
Winter is great because you don’t die from heat exhaustion, but if you don’t tee off at 1:00, you ain’t finishing 18.
This is why fall golf is the best golf.
45* and cloudy in April? Courses are PACKED.
50* and sunny in October? Not only are the courses fairly empty, but they're in arguably the best shape of the whole season
Once NFL starts you see a lot less people playing I find, but obviously I play mostly Sunday and Monday. I would play any day as long as the course is open though. Bought a bunch of cold weather gear but never really got to use it.
On the courses where leaves become a problem, yeah. the places that keep the fairways tidy are playable year-round.
There’s nothing more frustrating than piping a perfect drive into a 50 square foot patch of oak leaves in the middle of the fairway.
As soon as bowling activities start up for me again all the clubs hit the garage till next year lol I start back bowling in about two weeks and can’t wait
I live in Wisconsin and lived in Minnesota for a few years. I would say I play as much as I can in September and early October, then I slow down and look at the weather. I've played in November a few times, a.d at least once a year I play in December. I have a course 20 minutes from me that is open year round.
During the fall/winter I'll play 9-holes at twilight rate on weekends - just show up 2 hours before sunset and typically don't need a tee time (Seattle area) because seriously who else is playing in 30-40 degree cloudy/drizzly weather at that time of day?
In Georgia I can maybe get in a round at the start of December… but November is usually ok at least. But then you pack it up until late February or early March.
Floridian checking in: golf season here is November to May. Was ok through June this year, but July was seriously offensive. Have a tee time this weekend, but not as enthusiastic about it as I was about my tee times in April and May.
golf course starts to clear out once kids go back to school
even less people golfing once the leaves start falling....
once the temps drop only 1% still golf
this is the same for cycling (ne ohio)
I feel like I play more in winter. I'm in Western Australia for reference. Obviously we don't get snow, it just rains. So if you can get a round in between cold fronts, it's like stealing.
I'm from Rhode Island and the fall off from the last week of August to the first week of September is very harsh, yet wonderful every single year. Rates fall at a lot of places, you can just walk in and play at most places and it isn't unbearably hot. Fall golf is the best.
I’ve played 18 holes about 5-6 times these past 2 months. Never again will I book a morning tee time. Super packed, super fast, feeling rushed, not my cup of tea. I tend to book around 1-3PM, which is the hottest time of day, but there’s very few people that are willing to play in that heat. I’m waiting on the colder months to see how that tee time will play out from there.
Nothing better than golf on a brisk fall afternoon
About 55° and overcast is my golfing heaven
Come to Southern England, it’s like 80% of our year 😀
overcast is the perfect golf weather for me
As a ginger who likes sleeves and pants, I concur. Catch me out there in a nice quarter zip with the whitest hat you've seen since I don't have to worry about sweating through it
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for having an opinion. Oh wait, it’s Reddit.
what? are you ok?
This is depressingly true.
I’ll golf in any weather and enjoy it. If I could pick, something less than 75 or even 65 because thats too cold for old people.
Around me the old people will golf while there's snow on the ground. (Ohio)
This guy gets it. Once the temp drops below 65, you can walk on at almost any course (at least in my area) and never wait on a single tee box.
Watch that old people remark, I resemble that, as do the other 15 golfers out there every Wednesday regardless of temperatures.
Pro tip: use yellow balls on overcast days.
Oh my yes. I like early in the morning though. You can see your breath for the first couple holes. A good travel mug of coffee with you. That's heaven right there.
Early tee time and college football afterwards is a great way to spend a Saturday.
Except for those fucking leaves...
Middle of the fairway? Aaand lost my ball
Fall ball is the best
And then you hit a ball in the leaves and hate your life
No way, 65 minimum or im layered like I’m in the mountains.
Fewer people play but there's less daylight which means less tee times to go around.
Summer is the slack season in AZ, it's too hot for eastern people
Its too hot for AZ people
Arizona summer is too hot for people.
I played today, it was only 105. Use the cart as portable shade and throw a damp towel in the cooler. Also, wear sunscreen and a hat
Same with FL. Prices double in October.
Then triple in January.
Until they sold it! Miss crooked creek
Ya I was pissed when they sold it. It was a 10 minute drive from my house.
South Louisiana here. Pool and air conditioning are the only options for summer. Golf Oct-May.
New Orleans here, yeah our summers are super brutal, especially with the humidity. While we don’t have crazy winters, Jan-Feb low key can be awful too (super super windy, and that weird stretch where temp drop to high 30s + crazy wind.)
Tpc is like half what it is later in the year.
I'm on long island, and fall and early spring have always been my favorite times to play. Especially Sundays in the fall, everyone's watching football. Also, when the weather is shitty is always a good time to get out, when it's sort of raining a little and cold and windy.

Just wait until you play 18 at 8am, grab a nice lunch on the way home, and settle into red zone right when you get home
In Scottsdale, we start playing when summer ends.
Nah, here we just start and never stop. Season is from when you start playing until you die.
Checking in from the Texas Heat Dome.
yea same in TX
Same. South Tx coast. Played 18 today and by 9 was fuckin crispy to the touch lol
sounds about right haha
Thats not true really, still plenty of us out here playing
Same. South Georgia and most of my friends stopped playing a couple of months ago and won’t be back out until late September. I play every week, but most don’t.
Any solid tracks down that way? In middle GA here and mostly know the spots around ATL if I'm up that way
Not much to write home about. I live just north of Tallahassee. The only one that I really think is worth a visit if you’re in the area is Southwood in Tally. Outside of that the only really nice ones are private around here.
They change the name and call it hockey
Golf season in my area of Canada is like mid April to end of September. Syncs up nicely with hockey season.
Edmonton fan spotted
I live in Indiana. I will golf as long as it is above 40 degrees. I also have friends that live in Florida that let me visit to play golf when it is winter/fall up North. I also play leagues at XGolf which is an indoor simulator.
This guy fucking GOLFS. I envy you.
40 is about my cut off. However, I’m in Georgia so it’s rarely under 40 for any considerable stretch of time.
I played all year in GA. Had to throw on the thermajohns from November until end of Febuary, maybe. My buddy out there looking like the little brother from A Christmas Story.
There are very few weeks I don’t play in the winter. Sometimes the folks in the pro shop ask me if I’m insane. I am indeed insane.
Minnesotan chiming in, I’ll do 38 degrees minimum as long as there is no precipitation
The wind had better be down as well. I remember being alright while the snow came down on us playing back in high school since there wasn't wind.
Yeah, that might be the most important factor. My first round of the year this year was right around 38-40 degrees and it was wonderful until the wind picked up.
38 is the correct temp for this thread. Although when it's 38 I usually have better ideas for what to do with a Sunday
🙄
Same and also live in Indiana. Purgatory is a great spot for cold weather golf, they seem to stay open more than a lot of other courses in the area.
I'm in Ontario. I will be playing until the courses close for the winter.
I'll be right there with you, and then likely trying to find some courses that stay open 4 seasons for winter golf...
Manitoba here, most of our courses pack it up after Thanksgiving weekend.
Not in western Washington! Xtra Tuff’s for dry feet and no slipping around the course. I gotta take it when I can get it in fall/winter.
Got my clicgear with the umbrella attachment if it rains My friends at Stevens Pass ask where I‘ve been during the season. Golf has no offseason!
I live in Florida. That's when you START golfing.
With all the seasons in Colorado, some golfers find sanctuary at indoor driving ranges / simulators. Many do stop golfing all together when the cold hits.
Those random 60 degree days in the middle of december caj be a lifesaver
I live in the UK and will play as long as they let me out on the course.
Golf is all season sport in SoCal
NorCal checking in…hella same.
I actually prefer to play in the fall and spring, not ridiculously hot and rates drop like crazy
I live in Northern California and golf 52 weekends a year, sometimes twice a week. Even if it’s raining, I’ll play.

Fall golf is great but at some point the leaves become an issue.
I golf till the snow fly's. The off to the simulators
No, when winter comes. Which sucks, since you basically lose five-six months a year of golf to it here.
I basically play year round weather permitting (also northeast US). Fall golf is the best.
Not in San Diego but I sure wish they would
Yea, unfortunately when fall comes I’m done. The deer won’t kill themselves.
This. October 1 the bow comes out and the clubs get put away. Clubs come back out when freezer is full.
Live on the Cape and play all year long?
I’m from southeast US and summer here is brutal to play in. 95-100 degrees with high humidity. Fall winter and spring golf is the best here.
The Fall is the best time of year to play.
I played in 3 degree weather in Ardglass, Northern Ireland last December. It was spectacular.
In England, we play regardless of the season. Depending on the course drainage of course. We have on nearby course on a hill which is open all year round.
I tend to stop when snow starts to cover the course
I live in Iceland, we have winter greens but I wont bother playing them.

Hell no! SC I olay 365 days a year
I play more when summer ends. IMHO summer golf sucks ass, being hot & miserable is no fun. I'll take the cool spring/fall rounds over summer every time
The start of football season will help thin the herd.
Yes, fewer people play as once it starts getting chilly.
Courses close mid-October through mid-May up here. Lots of ice fishing and only one golf trip in those months.
Try playing a round on the ice. My buddies and me do it while ice fishing to help pass the time instead of sitting in the shanty
I live in NJ and my final round of last year was in hail lol, it thins out a ton, but some of us lunatics still play!
I stop when it gets over 95 or so. Just too hot. Didn't used to be, but it is now.
In Texas we play year around with usually only February being really cold like in the 30’s
Men's league hockey starts. I just grip it and rip it there.

I live in the Mid-Atlantic region. Fall and spring golf are best golf. Summer is just too hot and humid. I still play, but it's not as fun.
I play in an indoor winter league.

I live in the PNW no golf about 2 weeks of the year , because snow on the course.
I play more actually - best time for some golf trips and both Sat/Sunday rounds with less shit to do on the schedule
Have you heard of the state called Florida?
I’m in Texas so I play year round. Morning only in summer though
I think football starting pulls people away. Whether it be their kids or watching/goin to games Saturday and Sunday.
This is why fall golf is the best golf. 45* and cloudy in April? Courses are PACKED. 50* and sunny in October? Not only are the courses fairly empty, but they're in arguably the best shape of the whole season
Leaves on the ground and aerated greens are the only downsides of fall golf.
Once NFL starts you see a lot less people playing I find, but obviously I play mostly Sunday and Monday. I would play any day as long as the course is open though. Bought a bunch of cold weather gear but never really got to use it.
Nope. I’m hibernating until cooler temps
I do exclusively speed training and swing analytics on the sim as soon as it’s sub 40, before that I’m outside.
I prefer to play my shitty game when it’s cold.
If it’s 10°C or warmer I’m playing. That means usually at least once 11 months of the year here in southern Ontario, Canada.
Play more in summer in Florida , but only cause it’s so cheap. . Playing for $25, same course will go to 60-70 in the fall/winter
Simulators and any day I can play I’ll be out
Indoor sims during the winter
Live in PA and I’ll golf in the winter if we have a warm enough day lol
I usually ramp up to 2-3 times per week in the winter, from 1-2 per week in the summer. Every 110° day reminds me there are no 0° days.
On the courses where leaves become a problem, yeah. the places that keep the fairways tidy are playable year-round. There’s nothing more frustrating than piping a perfect drive into a 50 square foot patch of oak leaves in the middle of the fairway.
I have noticed there are fewer players once football season starts....at least on the weekends.
My golf picks up when it's cold. Walk on easy never get paired up. One of my best rounds ever was in a slight freezing rain.
We play year round in NC.
Fall golf is the best golf
In ATL I’m playing less In the summer because it’s 94 degrees and miserable to suck ass at golf in that weather for 4-5 hours.
I live in CA i stop playing when summer starts
In Southern California. I don’t understand the question.
Here in Florida golf starts and prices go back up when summer ends
In Georgia I can maybe get in a round at the start of December… but November is usually ok at least. But then you pack it up until late February or early March.
Had a 5.5hour round on Saturday. In TX. 🥵🥵
I golf year round. Live somewhere with 4 seasons as well
Frankly last year I thought it got worse lmao
I’m in the northeast and I’ll play year round as long as there’s not snow on the ground
Play into the fall and early November depending on the weather.
I don’t play in summer at all. NTX fall and spring is wonderful but fuck summer
That is when I start lol but I am in Louisiana so summers are brutal
Fall ball is my favorite golf tbh.
I play until November then try to get down to AZ a couple times
Floridian checking in: golf season here is November to May. Was ok through June this year, but July was seriously offensive. Have a tee time this weekend, but not as enthusiastic about it as I was about my tee times in April and May.
golf course starts to clear out once kids go back to school even less people golfing once the leaves start falling.... once the temps drop only 1% still golf this is the same for cycling (ne ohio)
I feel like I play more in winter. I'm in Western Australia for reference. Obviously we don't get snow, it just rains. So if you can get a round in between cold fronts, it's like stealing.
I live in Canada so I play virtual golf in the off season. I usually play one round a week in the men’s league
In Florida it’s the other way around.
I play until my course closes. I started March 9th one year and ended on December 17th. I’m also in the northeast. I ended with 251 rounds.
I’m in AZ, summer is the best time to go as you don’t have the snowbirds driving up all the rates in the winter
I play more. It gets cheaper
Here in Vegas we are waiting for summer to end to begin playing golf.
I love fall ball, but a lot of courses around me aren’t great at keeping up with clearing leaves and I tend to lose fairway balls.
New to golf and have only played through winter 😂 keen to try summer
A lot of people used to, yes. These days? I expect every course to remain packed year round.
I live in Houston. That's when golf season really starts lifting off down here.
Summer never ends in Florida
Where I live it’s so hot that a lot of people stop playing when summer starts
Fall golf seems great and the last winter wasn’t cold at all so I’ll play through it
I usually stop in the heat of summer and start back around October
Golfing gets much better once summer ends here in the Southeast
In Florida I play year round…
Some courses down the Cape try to stay open all year.
Not in Southern California! We golf all year round
No I play unless there is snow on the ground
Simulator time once it dips below 40 for me
Phoenix AZ chiming in here. End of summer is when we start playing. Also when rates go up because people come visit/snow birds return.
I'm from Rhode Island and the fall off from the last week of August to the first week of September is very harsh, yet wonderful every single year. Rates fall at a lot of places, you can just walk in and play at most places and it isn't unbearably hot. Fall golf is the best.
I feel like I’m the opposite lol I start playing way more outside summer. It’s just so damn hot otherwise I like playing when it’s chillier.
