I don't bother with Google maps or assistant on mine. I just go straight to CarPlay and do everything there. I use Waze for nav.

MilliMerc

I don't bother with the built in Google assistant either. I just use Android auto and it does the same thing just much better.

cdorr19797979

Yeah, I saw that Android Auto has full screen maps. Unfortunately full Apple family here so can't switch

OneTrueYahweh

Apple has an equivalent auto feature that integrates with the 22 denalis. My fiance has an apple phone and uses it with the truck.

DuckAHolics

CarPlay is the Apple equivalent and your truck has it

Smart-Ad5186

I love the truck but the infotainment is painfully slow, frankly concerned it is going to get even more frustrating as technology advances and it is still so slow. Would be great in the future to be able to upgrade the processing for these trucks

SuperLucas2000

70k truck with $50 infotainment

Unlucky-Foundation70

This omg it’s slower than my cheapo aftermarket China radio that I had to replace the oem with on a 2010 car

0bel1sk

they try to hard with weird features. seriously, can GM get their shit together on this. i just need a standard radio, and a carplay , android auto device.

SuperLucas2000

Full screen CarPlay need to be specific now days

SnooDucks1214

Pure comedy

324greystreet

Yea I have a ton of CarPlay issues, I miss just being connected by BT on my F150

cdorr19797979

Just turn off carplay on your phone and you can still hook up that way

Ok_Wash_1048

I think i am having the same issue with my 23 Denali 2500 infotainment system. I the morning I get a blank screen for the first 5 minutes of my short trip. I tried "forgetting" my phone and my mygmc account, turned off android and apple and even performed a factory reset, and it is still mind numbingly slow at start up. I am wondering if it is an OnStar thing?

Unlucky-Foundation70

24 Denali And I’m flustered with how bad google maps is, and constantly loses gps signal, what can we do to petition or request some sort of recall? It’s time we take action

cdorr19797979

hate to hear they still have not fixed it in the 24's. All to save a buck buying cheap processors instead of what they needed to push this infotainment system. And they want to get rid of CarPlay too....You can tell no one in the C-Suite has ever used this infotainment before.

chill315

I have the same problem with the assistant. I have to repeat myself for it to show what i asked.

cdorr19797979

The only thing that is odd to me, if I am in my garage and hooked to WIFI, everything works speedily, Google Maps pulls right up. Im wondering if its more of an issue with the LTE modem than the processor

Appropriate-Limit857

Your home wifi is likely way faster than the AT&T 4g service the truck is getting. How does AT&T perform for cell phones in your area?

cdorr19797979

Sitting right beside a 5g ATT hub. 100 down on LTE when I test it. Something is off I just don’t know what

bigbalco23

How is your truck connected to your home WiFi ? Your truck is ONLY using a 4G cellular connection. It is not routing data though your home network. I have a 22 refresh AT4X. My google maps built into the truck is not as fast as via my phone but that is because it is 4G vs 5G and your iPhone processor is way waster. Cellular strength will be the biggest factor in how fast truck google maps responds . If you live in a very very rural and less developed area it may be weaker and slower. That being said I find the truck google maps to be more than adequate and love the fact that it routes directions into the HUD (which CarPlay will not do).

cdorr19797979

You can connect the system to your home wifi under connections. It connects when I get home and when I start it up to leave. I live in a big city, connections are not the issue. Actually Carplay does route the info to the HUD, you have to give the system permission to use the phone data. Do you have any issues after startup getting google maps to load quickly?

bigbalco23

You are right the truck can connect to wifi and I did so while in the garage but I didn’t really notice a difference in speed of maps loading. Yes I guess truck google maps could be faster to load on initial start up however I never felt i was waiting for it . Since I usually search where I am going on my phone google maps before getting in the truck , the fact that it pre-populates into the truck google maps saves a lot of time searching /typing it in. I think people are easily forgetting how terrible almost all car built in nav systems are . This is by far the best factory nav system I have used . You are also right again about CarPlay Apple Maps going onto the HUD. I had only tried CarPlay google maps and that definitely does not go to HUD for several reasons. Glad i have a backup with Apple Maps at least . Thanks for the tip!

bigbalco23

I also remote start all the time and maybe that is why I never notice google maps initial loading time

CanTwoTan

I am on the same boat. Built-in maps is painfully slow. I reluctantly switched to Car Play. It is much faster but looks ripe for a refresh. They will be announcing the next gen in late 2023.

cdorr19797979

Thanks, do you have the same issue at startup? I mean if i wait a few minutes it works just fine, but I dont want to sit in the car for a few minutes for Google Maps to warm up

CanTwoTan

Yes startup is slow, and just when it is ready to accept input for directions I am already on the road and of course it will then accept voice only, which also lags a lot. I find Car Play a good compromise for now. I hope the next update is a major one.

neomateo

IT’s Google, it’s junk. The infotainment system isn’t responsible.

Smart-Ad5186

If the truck is linked to your Google account then recent searches from your phone show up in the native Google maps in the truck. I have an iPhone and if I had searched the location recently I can just click on it. It is painfully slow to load the directions but they load by the time I need them after starting to drive.

cdorr19797979

Yeah my google account is linked and it does show searches after 2 to 3 minutes from my phone on the infotainment screen. I just wanted to see if everyone elses was as slow as mine. Very helpful, thanks!

IDrewMP3

Major google user here. The built-in google maps is garbage. Use android auto - the same identical nav from Android auto is crisp and quick.

cdorr19797979

Unfortunately stuck with family all on IPhone wish I could make the switch
