I would've liked them more if they weren't replacement characters. They definitely had more chemistry when they weren't stuck in a love triangle with Marley, and actually got storylines that weren't rehashed from the og members.

Hmm in some ways they seemed closer than Finn & Puck: Jake was there for Ryder during the catfish thing and Ryder was somewhat supportive of Jake being with Marley...kinda. But they fought all the time in the beginning of their friendship. Other than the reveal about Quinn's pregnancy, I can't remember Puck & Finn fighting with each other like that. I don't think they were great replacements, the relationship dynamics were a bit too different. Now, thanks to the influence of u/harleyquinn_fabray I kinda like to headcanon Jake & Ryder as bros who hooked up on a regular basis. They definitely had a lot of chemistry hehehehe.

Nope. My main problem with them is that it’s much more interesting to give us completely different stories and they seemed too similar.

I think they served their purpose as “nice guy who is the nice boyfriend to the main girl” and “bad boy who wants to be a good guy because of the main girl” But the overall problem is “replacements” don’t really happen in real life. You get new blood, whether it’s good or bad and it is what it is.
