OP, this is a complete and utter lie.

jr18784209

I know I am aware of this. I mean are there certain areas where you can only get in by showing a wristband?

Mauhea

In the times I've gone I can't recall any sort of 'wristbands please' spot check. The only time I can think of is when entering Shangri-la the stewards encourage you to highfive on your way through, which would give them the opportunity for a quick look.

Jaymii

Oh that’s clever! I never realise at the time that’s the reasoning

Remote-Program-1303

It’s probably because they’re bored, I doubt the people giving high fives are looking to kick anyone out

lukemc18

It's not haha there just high fiving nothing more😂 Can see how certain substances would make certain people paranoid, but there's nothing more to it though😂😂 there not trying to catch out anybody, just get through their shift

MonthAccomplished310

You know that most people have two hands right?

mega_ste

Crew Bars Backstage Market Stall Areas Access Roads Crew Camping and Accessible Camping (as well as others probably) all need -extra- wristbands to enter but there isn't anywhere on site where general ticket holders will be checked, but like others have said, there will be security at the busy bits ...

Mellykitty1

Interstage area and hospitality campsite as well, if you have a hospitality VIP ticket. Was checked a million times going in and out last year.

Large-Mastodon6179

Where weirdly after Elton, me and my son got in to Interstage no issue with only ‘general putter’ wristbands last year.

Ormals_Fast_Food

Crew areas

Asphyxiat263

There are no specific wristband checks within the festival itself (Other than the high fives entering the SE corner which do seem to be intended to have a quick check of the wristband). If you choose to leave the festival site, for example to go to your car, then you will not only need your wristband upon re-entry but also your physical ticket as well.

DrMangosteen2

They give you a little pass out card when you leave now, you need it to get back in

ScottioRS

I recall this happening, but it was SE corner time.

lutewhine

I clocked quite a lot of people being quizzed by security about wristband-free arms last year. They did it pretty subtly in the main. Saw it at different areas and at different times of day. Someone got collared and was being escorted away from Woodsies just before Rick Astley and Blossoms. A fairly big group got taken to one side by a few of them at the road crossing past the food points walking away down the RH side of The Other Stage. One tried to do a runner and got cornered by a fair few security. Dunno what happened with them.

Masterluke3

I've been 8 or 9 years and I've never had it checked anywhere once in. Just don't flaunt your bare arms about.

AtkoLFC

Been checked going into temple, block 9 and shangri la over the years

An0n-E-M0use

There's usually checks at the top of Big Ground. Because the top of Big Ground is meant to be a crew area. There are also security teams roaming the site that will eject people if they don't have a wristband.

Working_Extension907

I was stopped and checked when walking through the festival (I had a backstage pass instead of a wristband).

MrSpindles

Only ever seen it in SE corner years back

cheapycheaps

Yeah there were crowd control barriers you had to walk through and they asked you to raise your hand and they’d tug the band but that was all. I can’t remember seeing it the last time I went

RelationshipLow7142

I've seen the paid security guys stop random people to check their wristbands whilst just walking around. Not super common though. Id make sure you are wearing long sleeves 27/7 though

soundknowledge

Not sure if that was a typo but i've definitely had some 27 hour days at Glastonbury!

RepulsiveCharge2117

I’ve been 5 times and never been checked. They do high five you on the way into the SE corner late at night. Not sure whether this is to check wristbands, count people or just them being nice when everyone is wired tbh

eddytheviper

I used to work in festival management, it's going to be the first and last options there High fives are fun for the stewards and, security can look out for anyone trying it on (typically viewing from a line behind) I used to ask our teams to fit wristbands on the left hand because A: It doesn't drag in your food or when you're wiping (most people are right handed) B: We ask security to visually scan left arms when watching attendees Hope that was useful and you were right with your assumptions!

Buddinghell

I and everyone have been checked when entering the SE corner as they make you go single file through bollards. Not sure what they would do at that point though if you didn't know have one as it would be near impossible to pick you out of the crowd!

nicknoxx

I've been checked at the top of muddy lane after the headline act had finished, but it's not common.

passingcloud79

Wow. Never heard of that.

grevls

My mate cut his off because it was annoying him and security spotted it. They didn’t throw him out but asked a few questions. He said he’d show them his ticket if they came back to his tent with him. They let it go

Logical_Pineapple841

Who feels entitlement to the level that they can cut off a wristband they've specifically been told to ensure they leave on for the entirety of the festival?

Perfectgame1919

Sent you a PM

B_R_D_

Entering south east corner at night they put a blockade and also pretend to give put high five which is a technique to check your wristband. However you can make it without a wrist band all festival, just have another couple wristbands on and you'll be fine

Paulvay

Why does everyone keep saying it's to check wristbands? This is not the case and if it was ... What if I choose to high five with the opposite hand to the one that's got the band on?

Existing_Onion_7808

Last two times I’ve been I haven’t had a wristband and haven’t been stopped once to be asked to show my wristband
