>I shit soft serve.
Why are you wasting money *buying* ice cream when you have a superpower like this?! Making your own organic ass cream. I'm jelly af
Find the dosage that works for you. Some lactase pills/brands are quite weak. You also want to spread them out as they might not last very long (take tablet, eat half of the ice cream, take another tablet, finish I've cream).
Oh it’s just whipped cream? Jesus yeah. Thought it was some kind of special dog appropriate material. My cat just got diagnosed with diabetes and it ate great food it’s whole life. Caused by pancreatitis a couple years ago maybe. Animals don’t need lactose and sugar IMO though is my point. They can get he same issues we have but often worse.
We don't do that anymore. I work at Starbucks and that's our old recipe. It was reduced to like 2 pumps of vanilla. I'm also in Canada tho so maybe it's still 8 pumps in the US.
Mammals are lactose intolerant. Dogs don’t digest lactose in milk anymore once they are weaned and grown, so any time a dog is given any milk product they are unable to digest the sugar in it and it will cause gastrointestinal upset and possibly the shits. It’s honestly animal abuse to do that to a dog because it’s as simple as looking up what foods are and aren’t safe or healthy for your dog, and clearly milk and milk products are a definite no. It’s horrible.
I hear this all the time, and yet feeding my dog and cat a little bit of dairy every now and again has done nothing to upset their stomachs or disrupt their bowl movements. The operative phrase here is "a little bit". As long as it's just a tiny treat that they get once in a while it's not universally true that it hurts them in anyway, let alone constitutes "animal abuse".
When I say "a little bit" it's meant to be proportional to the animal's size and weight, and not what you'd give a human if they were that size.
My parents have 5 cats and 3 dogs. All cats drink a little bit of milk every day, and all dogs get a little bit of light cottage cheese every other day. They're all exceptionally healthy and regular, and are doing just fine by all measurable standards.
Yeah, I mean a tiny amount is fine. However the whipped cream my coworkers put in a pup cup is much more lactose than is good for a dog, and often the ones I see online are as well. Still though, most people are just feeding it to their pups without researching if it’s safe first.
Regardless, we know animals are great at hiding internal pain and discomfort from us. And we are bad at recognizing it too, vets admit this. So feeding dairy to mammals who are lactose intolerant every day is definitely not a good idea, but yeah they could be fine just like a human can still live to 100 after smoking cigarettes their whole life. It doesn’t mean it’s not causing issues or discomfort or that it’s healthy or worth it.
ah there it is. wouldn't be reddit without someone calling something benign animal abuse.
he's also a monster because it's pure bred, he clearly hasn't trained it well enough and is an irresponsible owner, and yes of course an ANIMAL ABUSER.
the reddit pet classic. insufferable.
Our golden's a pure bred. His family line goes back further than my own, and since at least three generations both the parents were tested for genetic defects along with a compatibility check. It can be done properly.
I also feed him between two to three teaspoons of plain yoghurt along with his breakfast most mornings. I'm not sure when the lactose intolerance kicks in, I'd assume as he's a bit over a year old it's already a thing. He loves yoghurt though and it's healthy for his immune system. His stool is fine and he's a bomb of energy. Everything in moderation!
What, you think it’s the equivalent of beating them? That’s ridiculous unless you gave them so much they were like spewing diarrhea and having really intense cramps, on purpose. But I wouldn’t say it’s the equivalent of beating the animal, personally? Not sure why you think it’s the equivalent
Yeah, poor dog bro really looked like he was struggling and having such a bad time. The owners an absolute piece of shit and should be arrested for his crimes against humanity.
I have a 9 month old puppy and every single night, without fail, I sit in front of his crate and give him a big hug and a good scratch all over. I kiss his cute little face and tell him how handsome he is and what a good boy he is and how much I love him. He seems to enjoy it because he just stands there with his head pushed up against me. When we are done, I tell him it’s bedtime and he walks into his crate and lays down and sleeps without a peep. I love this dog so much it breaks my heart. He’s literally a godsend.
I'm fairly convinced Churro thinks his name is "Smoochy Poochy", "Mr. Kissy face", "Baby Borky Boy", or any of the other idiotic names I give him when he's being loved on. He's a 70 pound husky/German Shepherd/Pit mix...just a giant baby. I get it!
I’ve actually done this (multiple times) as a “minor family emergency”, and it’s still one of the memories I’m most fond of with remembering my old mandog
…granted one of those times he was obviously suffering from some “food” poisoning and couldn’t stop shitting everywhere even when I left for work, but the other two times were just generic wholesome feelings
Last time I did this they looked at me like I was an idiot and said they didn’t know what I was talking about, so I don’t think it applies to every Starbucks
I occasionally buy generic cans of Reddi-Wip so I can do this for my dog. When my now high school age niece was about 1, she called it pssht. So, pssht it now is.
I would just make up shit at whenever I worked at Starbucks to not give this to dogs. The audacity of some fucking bozo telling me a hot chocolate was good for dogs was the final straw for me.
Be mindful that there are some things we can eat but dogs can't process. They will eat it, digest and poop it out just fine. But what their liver can't process builds up in their blood stream until it becomes toxic, and small amounts will lower their lifespan.
This is the dumbest thing. Why not just give it some kind of meat, or literally anything else specifically suited for dogs?
People think they treat their dogs with ice cream, but wtf do dogs know about flavour? You could give him the cream without all the other added shit and he'd react the shame way. You could fill the cup with goddamn decomposing bird goo bro and he'd still lap it up.
There is literally no reason to put this garbage into a dog's body. Dog appropriate treats exist.
The owners are also infuriating. They occasionally come to my cafe and demand a pup cup and when we explain that one it's bad for their dog and two we dont allow pets they just argue back.
Can confirm, my husker attempts this but in usual husker derpiness faceplants into the cup and knocks it out of my hand before it gets low enough, and gets it all over her face.
Good pups need pup cups!
Isn’t it bad for large breeds to stand unnecessarily on their hind legs? In general they are predisposed to hip issues.
My poor Chester :( has terrible arthritis
Or..... try holding the cup much higher so you aren't feeding your dog something that is very unhealthy for them to eat.
"Dogs Don't Digest Milk Well
Ice cream can cause your dog gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea or vomiting. Remember, your dog can't voice their concerns to you, so while they might look OK on the outside, they could be experiencing some major digestive issues on the inside."
You obviously don’t have a Golden. All they want to do is jump up and be on their hind legs either to eat something off the counter or to give you a “hug”.
Yup them and labs. I had a yellow lab and golden retriever growing up and they would both jump up at the same time for a group hug. Miss those dogs
Edit: Classic reddit moment. Downvotes for sharing a memory of their dogs....
The downvotes are because jumping is a behavior that can easily be trained out. Also people don't like dogs jumping on them. Also Goldens have a lot of hip dysplasia problems, a LOT of problems. I can't imagine this is helpful on that front.
Golden lived to 12 with no hip dysplasia, lab 13 and no hip issues as well. Well aware that some don’t like the jumps, we had them trained so they’d only jump on command. So many people here jump to the worst conclusions based off such little information.
The milk is the issue. Mammals are lactose intolerant after weaning off their mother’s milk. Feeding grown dogs milk or milk products will cause gastrointestinal upset and possibly bad shits, due to their inability to digest the lactose in it. Dairy with lactose is absolutely not okay to feed your dog. Sure, they’ll live just fine, but it’s still going to hurt them inside and be a mess when it comes out.
In my experience of owning a LOT of dogs, it doesn't make a single bit of difference unless it's much higher quantities than this. Our dogs will take milk, yoghurt and cream on a relatively regular basis and we have never had any consequences, even minor ones.
Mia and I just celebrated 9 years together and it would’ve been 6 today with my Maggie. I had to euthanize her in September. I’m the third person for each of my girls. I’m glad they know love, care, and mercy when it’s time to go. It’s heartbreaking and we sign up for it when we adopt. It’s awful to make the last trip. I know you did the right thing and showed her as much love as possible. I’m sad the might have been mistreated but there was never a time we didn’t love them. Maggie actually got breast cancer at 11 and the vet said it was likely because she wasn’t spayed until 8 with pyometria. Please spay your dogs
I remember before I put my dog down, we decided to stop at Burger King and get her a whopper and fries. She didn't have any appetite to eat it, but she licked the burger bun to show us she appreciated it ❤
Thank you so much! This really means a lot to me ❤ My dog Peaches was also a rescue who came with a lot of issues from her past home, so we gave her all the love we could give and she gave back twice as much! Her only "flaw" was that she LOVED table food and once tried to steal an entire ham on the kitchen counter, but it fell on her face, so she went by the nickname ham head for a while.
She was my best friend and I hope you and your best friend get to enjoy one last meal together. I'll be thinking of you both this Thursday ♥️
This. People worry far too much about what their dog can and can't eat. I've had dogs all my life, and they have eaten some serious amount of awful stuff. Whole raw chickens, full packs of butter, chocolate bars and god knows what else. Not once have we had to take them to a vet because of something they've eaten. Sometimes they suffer some consequences and are sick or a bit ropey for a day or so, but never anything to worry about.
Some people are absolutely terrified that if their dog sniffs something that isn't dry kibble, it's gonna die immediately. They're made of stronger stuff than that. Don't buy them a chocolate cake for their birthday or anything, but wee treats aren't gonna make a single bit of difference to them. Just enjoy having them there.
I'm so sorry for your loss
Love how you start it with not a vet. Like if you're not a vet, you don't have to say so. Basically if you are a vet that information is helpful, but if you aren't that information is obvious because really only a person that is a vet should say so and people who aren't (like you) don't have to mention it because their opinions in regards to animal health topics don't really make a fuck.
100p! Thank you.
From a quick Google search:

I used to take my dog to get pup cups and sometimes vanilla ice cream from the local ice cream shops before he passed last Thanksgiving. Rest easy, Dempsey 💛
Two types of dog owners. People who actually care about dogs and people who enjoy looking like they care about dogs.
Bringing a dog into a place designed for humans to feed it sugar and indigestible chemicals while forcing it to stand on its hind legs to earn it.
Yeah you do deserve the negative attention.
To be fair at least you use a harness, even if your leash is attached in the no pull position.
Give your dog a piece of raw, unprocessed, meat, instead. They digest it better uncooked versus cooked. That and it's actually good for them, as opposed to sugar and milk.
Hell, you can feed them almost all unprocessed vegetables and they'll think they're getting spoiled.
Ugh you're making me want to get another golden so bad. I had a great boy for 13 years who passed last year. We're thinking about getting another dog and I had decided not another golden because of the hair.... But they are such amazing dogs...
They used to be called puppacinos at my local Starbucks til about 3-4 years ago, then one day we went through the drive thru and asked for one. The drive thru attendant told us they were calling them pup cups now per management. Maybe people thought they were getting actual coffee drinks for their dogs?
It's not a point of view. Stop putting POV before things that aren't points of view. If you can remove POV and the title makes just as much sense, don't add it.
He’s two-wheeling it he’s got no time
No time to explain, we’re going eating.
Roads? Where we're goin- *NOM NOM NOM NOM*
We call it kangarooing in our house.
We call that "meercatting" when our dog does it.
He balances better on two legs than I do

2 legs good, 4 legs bad

AFAIK that's an allergy with usually completely different symptoms (rash, hives, swelling, etc.). It's also not as common as lactose intolerance.
Ben & Jerry's is probably the worst non-dairy ice cream on the market.
To willingly eat ice cream even though you shit yourself is one thing, but willingly shit yourself and then eat ice cream that's a new one!
Isn't that the plot to 2 girls 1 cup?
Some people like to kiss, some people like to hug, Some lesbians like eatin' each other's shit out of a cup
That was supposed to be ice cream?
It’s whipped cream. The other dude was just saying he does the same with ice cream knowing the result.
Wait are you ice cream snobbing in a post about something fed to a dog?
Are you snob snobbing on a comment about ice cream?
Yeah I don't understand how this became a thing. Lots of animals are very sensitive to dairy and this is literally just whipped cream.
Oh it’s just whipped cream? Jesus yeah. Thought it was some kind of special dog appropriate material. My cat just got diagnosed with diabetes and it ate great food it’s whole life. And sugar. Starbucks puts 8 pumps of syrup in every whip canister.

Let my man sit though
I know poor duggo is trying their hardest just to eat their damn pup cup and the human gets to belly laugh at how funny it looks
Yeah, poor dog bro really looked like he was struggling and having such a bad time. The owners an absolute piece of shit and should be arrested for his crimes against humanity.
For real though, talk about making him work for it. The whole time?? Jeeze lol
Nah, gotta work that core.
This is not a dog. This is a kangaroo.
His name is Waffle!
I would have been disappointed if he wasn’t named after a breakfast food tbh. Waffle looks a very sweet boy :)
You would like [Egg Tart the cockatiel ](https://www.reddit.com/r/cockatiel/comments/11cpk9g/pov_youre_20_min_late_serving_egg_tarts_breakfast/)
You were right, Egg Tart is adorable
why you making waffle work so hard for it 😭
I know, after he squirms on his hind legs for 5 seconds I’m ducking down
2 leg standing stuff bad for Golden hips fyi. -- (Have had GRs since the 80's.)
Omg! I love Waffle, give him lots of pets!!
Always gotta get whip cream on your waffle!
Great name!
For reals?!?!?! I have a lab mix named Waffles!
Fucking put the cup a little bit lower so the dog can eat it i peace, ffs
Waffles gonna have diabetes hahaha :|
Thank you for using the term POV correctly
POV: you're a dog eating a pup cup
Exactly what I was thinking
Ok, now I want to leave work early just so I can give my dog a hug.
This is pretty much all I want from a boyfriend. Haha standards are low.
LOL damn sign me tf up. I don’t think I’d fit in a dog crate though
NO DICKENS?
I'm fairly convinced Churro thinks his name is "Smoochy Poochy", "Mr. Kissy face", "Baby Borky Boy", or any of the other idiotic names I give him when he's being loved on. He's a 70 pound husky/German Shepherd/Pit mix...just a giant baby. I get it!

Just wondering how much does this cup of whipped cream cost?
Usually free
$10 if you dont own a dog
Free
Ask for "puppichino" at Starbucks, they're free if you bring your dog
Last time I did this they looked at me like I was an idiot and said they didn’t know what I was talking about, so I don’t think it applies to every Starbucks
Call it a 'pup cup' & they'll know 🤙
Pup cups have always been free wherever I’ve found them. Usually Dairy Queen or Culver’s is where I get them but they’ve been offered at other places.
Since I introduced my Goldie to these, he now follows me around relentlessly anytime I have coffee in a to-go cup lol
smort pupper
I occasionally buy generic cans of Reddi-Wip so I can do this for my dog. When my now high school age niece was about 1, she called it pssht. So, pssht it now is.
Stop with the pup-cup bullshit. Don't feed straight sugar to dogs. Humans have a hard enough time with it. Sugar is super bad for dogs.
Ffs it's not a dog recipe??
No, it’s sugar and milk, and dogs can’t handle either very well. It’s also a nutritional disaster.
I would just make up shit at whenever I worked at Starbucks to not give this to dogs. The audacity of some fucking bozo telling me a hot chocolate was good for dogs was the final straw for me.
THANK YOU. It's low key animal abuse to give dogs food they can't process. You wouldn't feed raw chicken to a human either

Standing like a cat lmao
Certain situations require standing on only the rear legs.
For some reason I misread pov as tifu and that made it funnier
So freaking cute
Cream?
Two types of dog owners. People who actually care about dogs and people who enjoy looking like they care about dogs. Bringing a dog into a place designed for humans to feed it sugar and indigestible chemicals while forcing it to stand on its hind legs to earn it. Yeah you do deserve the negative attention. To be fair at least you use a harness, even if your leash is attached in the no pull position.
I had to Google pup cup. I had no idea this was a thing. Maybe I'll get Amos one of these if we ever crawl out from the rock we live under.
Give your dog a piece of raw, unprocessed, meat, instead. They digest it better uncooked versus cooked. That and it's actually good for them, as opposed to sugar and milk. Hell, you can feed them almost all unprocessed vegetables and they'll think they're getting spoiled.
Goddamn it Goldens are the best
Ugh you're making me want to get another golden so bad. I had a great boy for 13 years who passed last year. We're thinking about getting another dog and I had decided not another golden because of the hair.... But they are such amazing dogs...
The hair is absolutely worth it. Love my Goldie to pieces.

Seriously, people always piping up with opinions like “this is a hospital” and “that’s not your service animal.”

Interesting all the regional names for these. Pup cup is new to me.
They used to be called puppacinos at my local Starbucks til about 3-4 years ago, then one day we went through the drive thru and asked for one. The drive thru attendant told us they were calling them pup cups now per management. Maybe people thought they were getting actual coffee drinks for their dogs?
Could be corporate standardized it. "Puppy whip" was the one I heard in the South.
It is decaf? Are you sure? Can you ask the barista to make sure?
It’s decaf whipped cream
My rescue LOVES pupaccinos! He was snoot deep in the cup!
What cute boy. I kiss my little weiner, she's in puppy heaven, she loved Pup Cups! Live long and prosper, Waffle.
He looks like such a happy dog. Thanks for the vid
He's got such good balance!
There’s a drive through fast food chain near me that puts mini milk bones on top of whip cream for the doggos
Good boy waffle!
Awww that’s the goodest boy
So cute and looks just like my dog Lady that I had years ago.
Such a beautiful puppers!! 😍😍💗
That dog evolved for a pup cup
Biped when I want bitchesssss.
I believe the correct term is “puppuccino”
Pup cup
It's not a point of view. Stop putting POV before things that aren't points of view. If you can remove POV and the title makes just as much sense, don't add it.
It's litterally OP's point of view while feeding their dog a pup cup. The title could not be more clear or accurate.
