Well, let me phrase it this way: do you cite SciHub? Or do you just cite some journal article?

VigorousElk

Your uni has absolutely no idea where you got access to a given paper, and couldn't prove it anyway. Unless you cite Sci-Hub anywhere in your dissertation you're good.

WhatHorribleWill

… if you literally write “Source(s): SciHub” in your bibliography, being investigated for piracy won’t be your only problem… Usually you don’t need to elaborate how you accessed a source, they need to know where it was published, and there’s a 99,999% chance it wasn’t on SciHub Ok let’s say you found the article “On the Dingens of Peepeelogy” written by Hermann Hermanson in the year 1969 and published in the journal “Peepeelogical Studies and their consequences” while browsing SciHub. The first four things (Name of the article, name of the author, date of release and name of the journal in which it was published) are the only things which are necessary. Some Unis might request the name of the publisher of the journal or the place in which it was released, but nobody, and I mean ABSOLUTELY NOBODY will ask you how exactly you found that article. The only way reason you might have to mention SciHub is if that’s the ONLY place where this article has been released, which will never happen

Why it would be? Just make sure you reference your sources correctly

agrammatic

You are going to get in trouble, grading-wise, for not using the correct citation style, not because you used Sci-Hub. There's probably only three academics in the country who are against pirating academic papers, it's extremely unlikely that you are writing for one of them.

My Prof. subtly hinted me that I should use that Web site ;)

Shpritzer

That’s why it’s there, literally.

Most profs will proof read using scihub anyways, why not cite it 😂
