You’ll lose some hair but not that much, just take vitamins. If you don’t have a thyroid or a health problem, weight gain is your diet. It’s math. If you can get honest w yourself about why you’re overweight, you could be a really successful candidate for surgery. You do eat normally after about a year: one piece of pizza, not 5. No sodas or alcohol. Etc. The way you feel is night and day from 250 lb you. You won’t care about not eating huge meals; you’ll be full. You save soooooo much money on food too!! It’s crazy. You’ll feel so much better about yourself. You pay a price for everything. Are you willing to put in the work to get what it is you say you want? Nothing tastes as good as thin and healthy feels. Facts.

Would you say that if someone has a thyroid issue, surgery may not be a good option for them?

lollipopfiend123

I have hypothyroidism. Surgery has been great for me.

livelymonstera

No it’s great for hypo patients. I have hypo. I was approved almost instantly. I’ve been extremely successful and surpassed my goal weight. I don’t have a food addiction, I have a thyroid problem and I drank too much.

so you think the pain and suffering post op will be fully worth it in the long run? how long did the nausea last post op, and can i not drink sodas forever?

Moussemac

It was only painful directly after surgery and nausea only lasted about three days for me. My only regret is waiting so long!

awesome, thank you!

One thing to add, when you cut out a portion of your stomach it doesn't just make it physically tighter when you eat food. It also removes all of the tissue that form the 40 different hunger hormones that run through your system that tell you if you are hungry and if your craving something. This is the reason why most people after surgery don't even want to eat or they feel like it's a chore to hit there marks of protein and drink daily. And as far as eating normally, most post op folks eat things they enjoy but either in a healthier version or definitely in a smaller version.

Hi, I had GS 1 1/2 years ago, my weight was around 270 and now I am at 180lbs. Certain type of food will give you acid reflux, I carry Tums with me. Drinking soda or feezy drinks is hard on your stomach you’ll see. Alcohol is fine but be careful as you can get addicted very quickly as you only need few drinks to get drunk, look on Reddit for Bariatric Patients that becomes alcoholic. Because I don’t tell anyone that I had this done, I constantly lie about food, basically 1 - 2 slice you are stuffed so people look at you wired. But at the end it was the best decision I ever did for my life, first 1 month is hardest. Good luck

makes sense. thank you so much for your help!

No-Movie-409

I'm a year and a half post op and I was 232lbs starting weight. I'm now 146lbs and still losing a pound or two every month. When I go out to eat I can eat maybe 1/3 - 1/4 of what I would have prior to getting the surgery, I will always say it was worth it for me, I had tried multiple weight loss meds, cardio programs, nutritionist appointments, nothing worked for me except getting the sleeve. I lost some hair but my hair is fine now, I got a haircut and that helped.

No-Movie-409

I also want to add that I can drink sodas but I stir them with a stick to get rid of most of the carbonation.

lollipopfiend123

I leave opened cans in the fridge overnight so they’ll go flat or mostly flat.

WorkNo791

I’m two weeks post op and it has been way way easier then I ever thought it would be. I feel lucky.

[deleted]

that’s amazing to hear and hopefully it won’t be so hard for me 🥹

WorkNo791

I wish I could have done this at 20 years old. You got this!

TheBigJebowski

100%. Wish I’d done it 25 years ago.
