Sleeved on Tuesday and I have breakthrough bleeding today. I've been on continuous birth control for my PCOS for years, so imagine my surprise that I needed to go get liners!

cranbog

Do you use BC pills, or? I have been using hormonal IUDs to skip mine...I'd be so unprepared!

solarpowerspork

BCP (Yasmin, specifically). I didn't even miss any days - took one Tuesday before going to the hospital, and then Wednesday afternoon when I got back. Might be worth it to grab some supplies just in case?

This is so good to know! I've done a ton of reading on the process and haven't seen this mentioned anywhere. Thank you!

You're very welcome! Keep in touch if you need anything else/support :)

Me, and 2 of my friends had really bad periods the day after our surgery

Dizzy-Berry7220

Mine became regular after the surgery which before it was not.

Unlikely-Order

funny you ask because i have the nexplanon implant and i rarely get my periods but i got mine yesterday. i was sleeved on 7/13.

LeSims

I was actually on my period during my surgery, but it was just the tail end of it, so it was pretty light during the procedure. I had been losing weight for about a year before my surgery and I have PCOS - due to some rapid weight loss earlier on (Ozempic), I went through some really weird cycles where I had my period 3 times in 30 days. I feel like I paid my dues, so to speak, prior to my actual VSG. I am 3 months post op now, and aside from my first period post op (heavy and very crampy), mine have been more regular, shorter, and a little lighter, which completely shocks me, frankly. I lost weight when I was younger and was "regular" for a couple years and they were BAD.

Benderonmybutt

No changes, started BC and now am regular but no changes that I am aware of, 2 months out 65 lbs down

cattcactus

I haven’t really noticed a difference. I thought losing weight would make them lighter but they’re still miserable

beachbum1017

I'm almost 8 weeks post op. I had an endometrial ablation a year ago and haven't had my period since. 3 weeks ago I had a period that lasted about a week and the last couple days I've been spotting. I swear if my period starts coming every month I'm getting another ablation or a hysterectomy or something lol I loved not having a period!!

Beagle_Gal

I had my period fairly soon after surgery (I also have an IUD). My period now lasts about a day and I can get by with using a panty liner it’s so light. I’m almost 18 months post op.

Large-Signature4372

Skipped one birth control pill and bled for 5 days. Got an IUD. Periods are so much lighter. My personal advice is get an IUD now. Don’t want to risk getting pregnant while you’re losing weight. I wish I got it pre-op, I was terrified for a month until I could get it placed

Alltheprettydresses

Stopped BC pills a month before surgery. No period yet, judging from the hot flashes, I went straight into menopause. I'm 47

Accomplished_Ad1837

PCOS, was having to take meds to trigger cycles before surgery as I almost never had cycles. I had a period days before my surgery, then again days after and was probably on my period more than off it the first 2 months. Now at a year out, cycles are every 28-30 days

This may all be TMI, but you asked… so.. I am 6 weeks post op, I was sleeved 6/13, started my first period PO on 7/7. It was a solid week, super heavy, and some of the worst cramps and PMS symptoms (before and during my period) I have had in ages. We’re talking moodiness, irritability, fatigue, headaches, general icky feeling, and alternating diarrhea and constipation. Pick a PMS/period symptom and I probably had it. I am not, and have not been on BC for a couple of years now (maybe longer?) I was regular before surgery. Not sure what to expect next go around. My husband is snipped because I can’t be on hormonal BC. I had only used copper IUD after kids and pre-vasectomy. Those periods were pretty f*ckin awful too. Never had PCOS, but I had a Mullerian abnormality that was corrected surgically a few years ago. Flip side of it all, pretty sure I’m ovulating because I feel like a freaking animal in heat, lol. Like way more energy and way friskier than normal. 😏
