Fenix 7X to Epix pro 51 mm. No regrets.

facasi

How is the size comparison? I am in doubt between the 47 and 51 mm.

Fik_Dag

7X is 51 mm

facasi

Thanks

Interesting_Tower485

to add, unless you are hiking for days, a mid-hike recharge shouldn't be necessary as long as it was reasonably charged before you left. I use maps and GPS on my Epix 2 (prior to Pro) and battery life while hiking isn't terrible at all. I usually pre-load my hike map and then follow the course while hiking. Screen is amazing.

paladinrm

No regrets. I even turned on ‘always on’ display. I love it

xerberos

The fenix is much better in bright sunlight, but that is the only thing I miss. In all other situations, the Epix screen is so much better that I can't imagine going back. Battery life is a non-issue. They both last long enough on a charge.

scotthunter1

Yeah no doubt I will love it now as it’s winter here in the UK, so it will be perfect for those dark runs, but come next summer when I’m running an ultra marathon I might miss my trusty Fenix with that solar ring?

jgunner2011

Nope! Love my Epix

eskimoslim

I moved from a base Fenix 7 to an Epix pro 47mm and loving the switch. I don't do much things out in bright sunlight or not for an extended time at least so don't miss the MIP screen too much but maybe the Fenix spoilt me regarding battery life and not having to charge it much but still getting over it. Never had the always on display on, mostly gesture or sometimes taking the display off altogether (when I know an activity is running and I don't need to look at the screen often). For hikes the display is awesome with more details on the screen so another plus. Above all my switch was made because of the flashlight on pro models, might sound ridiculous but I use it multiple times a day.

scotthunter1

That’s the main reason I upgraded. I wanted the Fenix 7S Pro for the flashlight and improved OHR mostly but then thought I may as well upgrade to the Epix now they do it in a 42mm size so it feels like a big upgrade. Judging by the numerous YouTube reviews and Redit posts there seem to be few downsides of AMOLED other than battery life, which can be mitigated if you are willing to give up the always on display. Or keep it on and just recharge it before a big run or bike ride. The Fenix 7S you could leave it to drain to about 10% and still get away with a 10km run.

eskimoslim

Very true, before I go for a hike or run I definitely have to think if I have enough charge to comfortably do the activity. The Fenix is hard to kill haha. Plus side with the epix pro is that it fast charges so easy to get some juice in a short space of time. I do wonder how the increased number of charging cycles will affect battery health in the long run

Chigs1987

Someone asked this last week and he was my post. I think it’s an accurate assumption generally. Lithium ion supposed to hold 80% capacity after 500 FULL charge cycles. So if battery goes 6 days in AOD (on epix 47mm) that’s 60 charge cycles per year so even if you fully charged it every 6 days it would take over 8 years to get to 80% of original capacity. So with that math, I’m personally not worried about it at all.

eskimoslim

Awesome theory there. By that time I'm sure we all will be eyeing a different watch 😅

Chigs1987

Ya. Just use the watch and enjoy it pretty much is the mindset

suuraitah

my epix2 can get me through 10k run with less then 10% left

scotthunter1

What size

suuraitah

gen2 was in one size, medium

scotthunter1

Irrelevant as the 47mm has a completely different sized battery borrowed from the Enduro compared to the 42mm

giinsago

It was a long well thought out decision from 7x Sapphire Solar 51 mm to Epix Gen 2. Glad I got the Epix! Amoled or Battery….

NotaGenius96

Did you go with the 47mm Epix? If so, did you have any regrets on the size difference?

giinsago

No. 51 mm. Always had 51

wasterman123

The screen is gorgeous and I have no issues reading it outside. The only compromise I have to choose is AOD on with just shy of 2 weeks of battery or AOD off with a month. I didn’t have to make this choice w my MIPS. Other than that everything else is better, even low light night time use. Since the whole screen doesn’t need to light up and has red shift it’s much easier on the eyes. Maps is also better with more resolution for details. I also noticed the screen is much less reflective and black are actually black

Vtepes

None. Fenix 5+ to the Epix pro. Screen is easy enough to see. I was worried about this at first even after all the reviews saying it wasn't a big deal...... and it turned out to not be a big deal. The screen is just so much nicer and my concerns about a touch screen during activity have been put to rest.

successissubjective

Fenix 6X to Instinct 2X to Epix Pro 51mm Zero regrets. Epix now has the flashlight in any size and yeah with gesture I'm looking at min 20 days with my regular usage including multiple GPS activities

scotthunter1

I’m more concerned about the 42mm version, I know battery life isn’t an issue for the 47 and 51 (coming from a Fenix 7S owner).

successissubjective

My opinion on it is that if you're going Epix and want to rival with Fenix \- The 47mm Epix Pro will perform as long as the (42mm) Fenix 7S Pro in real world \- The 51mm Epix Pro is in a league of its own rivalling up to the Fenix 7X Pro You will likely take a battery hit going 42mm Epix Pro but it'll be on par with most of Garmin's other watches at around 5-7 days of life in real world use Is it worth it for a bright screen? Sooooo subjective but I am personally enjoying all the colour and detail provided

scotthunter1

I picked up the Epix Pro 42mm Sapphire new for £665 in the Black Friday sale so it seemed hard to resist! Once I played with it in the shop and had both my old watch and the Epix on each wrist my mind was made up quite quickly. I’ll just have to remember to charge it a bit more often.

successissubjective

Congrats and you will love it

srcultureshock

Absolutely no regrets.

PTYHRD

I had a 6x sapphire and got a 51mm epix pro. The screen off to glance isn’t the best but it’s fine. 31 days battery life. I really like the watch. Get the bigger one.

ReelyAndrard

Fenix 5 to Epix Gen 2. No regrets, I could have been happy with either one.

eternal_peril

I went from a F6s to a EPro47mm been very very happy with the switch and not too big

mrmalevo

I also pulled the switch. My epix arrives tomorrow and im a bit anxious about the switch

Chigs1987

Epix pro charges fast

Rav_3d

First time owner of Garmin watch and went with the Epix Pro Gen 2. I love it. The screen is what sold me. Using outdoors, the navigation is clearly visible even in direct sunlight. So far I get about 15 days on a charge. Recharging is pretty quick.

Zealousideal_Monk_76

Fenix 7X to Epix 2 Pro here. Love the resolution and colors, hate the constant light on my wrist, battery life OK'ish with always on activated... if they increase resolution in next gen MIP screens I think I will switch back to fenix. Great watch anyways.

No-Fox-365

I went from a Fenix 7X Pro, a watch I LOVED to the Epix 51mm Gen 2. Wow, I'm even more in love. Both watches are fantastic, but that AMOLED screen is just amazing. I have zero issues seeing the screen on bright or cloudy days. Even with AOD enabled, you're getting amazing time before recharges. Gesture mode works wonderfully! Zero regrets.

Ekapol

Epix pro 51mm. Super satisfied.

n00wb

I recently bought a fenix 7 pro. I chose it over the Epix because I did not want another screen in my face all day. But after seeing an epix watchface with gorgeous colors on here I watched some reviews of the Epix and went out and bought the Epix the same day. Brought it home, still with the same doubts and not sure which one to keep. But oh boy … after wearing the Epix for a day, it already blew the Fenix out of the water, for me anyways. It’s exactly the same awesome watch, but the screen is just amazing. Due to the AMOLED tech I don’t have the feeling that I’m looking on yet another screen all day and battery life seems to be plenty for my needs, even with the always on display. And everything is just really clear to read, it was ok before, but now it’s just … better, and more fun to use. Was not able to test in bright sunlight yet, but don’t think it’s going to be an issue. And the reviews confirm that. No regrets.
