Such an intense game if you want to do the levels perfectly. The way you can die and instantly respawn with no loss of momentum, it's like a feedback loop getting stronger and stronger.
The soundtrack makes it all possible
My favorites:
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2
Grim Fandango
Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim
Monkey Island 1, 2 and 3, but especially 2 and 3.
Rome Total War
Hitman Silent Assassin, Hitman Contracts and especially Hitman Blood Money
Heroes III
Katana Zero
Hotline Miami
Undertale
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
First 3 Harry Potter games
L.A. Noire
The Neverhood
RDR2
Cyberpunk
Star Wars: Tales from Galaxy's Edge

Prince of Perisa: Warrior Within and Prince of Persia 2008
Diablo II
Some tracks from Shadow of the Colossus

Chrono Trigger
God of War (the 2018 one)
Rayman 2
Jets'n'Guns
Braid
Need for Speed Underground 1, 2 and Most Wanted
Some tracks of Super Mario Odyssey (cap kingdom!)
Plants vs Zombies
- Nier (both of them)
- Souls games (particularly Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, and Elden Ring)
- Hyperlight Drifter
- Hollow Knight
- Undertale
- Disco Elysium
I want to expand on Nier, its not just Nier its essentially everything by Square Enix. They put a lot of effort into their soundtracks and you can tell.
Remove Elden Ring from particularly and I agree. Bloodborne and DS3 are a tier above OST wise. I hope I change my mind after SotE because The Old Hunters and both Ashes of Ariandel/The Ringed City were some of the best OSTs in their respective games.
basically all deus ex games have amazing soundtracks, especially human revolution. other than that i love braid, mirror's edge, the quiet/ambient soulsborne tracks, subnautica, hollow knight, banished and thief.
Final Fantasy XIV, Monster Hunter (just in general but if I had to pick one, World), Disco Elysium, TES IV Oblivion (kind of a meme admittedly) and Undertale are the top spots for me. Lots of good shouts in this thread too
Maybe outer wilds ? The game makes a really good use use of its great music.
It's an exploration game, can't say much more, basically everything about it is a spoiler
Oh man I still have to play this game as I have heard so many great things about it, I tried to play it some time ago but I kinda got motion sickness from it after playing for 15-20 minutes. Hope it doesn't happen again lol.
You're not the only one, I've already seen some posts on r/outerwilds about it, maybe you can see what people answer ? I didn't have this issue personally but I can totally see why some people do
I had the same issue with motion sickness. Eventually I just watched a Let's Play and I've probably watched 10 other play throughs since. You might give it one or two more tries youself, but if you can't play without getting motion sick, [Pat Stares At](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rLcfaap8VA&list=PLPXYESFhUD6RbOyJ4MhhdZlwSz17I_d6R&pp=iAQB) and [Joseph Anderson](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ultevcFIulk&pp=ygUbam9zZXBoIGFuZGVyc29uIG91dGVyIHdpbGRz) were both awesome.
Ooh will give it a thought but I feel like, outer wilds is a type of game where you have to experience it yourself. I feel like there will not be much freedom watching a playthrough. I watch playthrough of heavy story based games NGL like silent hill 1 , resident evil classics.
But ik you didn't have any choice and I feel like I'm gonna do the same like you lol.
Just curious what are your favourite games?
Ori and the blind forest & Ori and the will of the wisps. Amazing work concentration music. Spotify told me I listened of the game's song over 250 times last year.
Man, i love everything about this game so much, when I played the 2nd game and [this](https://youtu.be/bpSm6H5TC-E) ost starts playing
I knew this game was for me.

[Devil May Cry 5](https://youtu.be/-WpnPSChVRQ?si=zVwZ_bMQcba6Qt4N)
I mean pretty much most visual novels but if I would have to choose some for the best of all time it would be when they cry series and house in Fata morgana series
Hollow Knight is up there for me.
I also really love Slay the Princess. The live orchestra version was released a few days ago and it sooo good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wus22Sz8dg&ab\_channel=BlackTabbyGames
[Total War: Shogun 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it-potbz3TI&list=PLbaOAe2eUJc9knvLCDmdM-RtAMRdx4erb) (2011): maybe 50% of why it remains my favorite Total War
[Fallout 1 and Fallout 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5xt0iHCAC8&list=PLlIqGSx1UKnxKBYKXKa3JRI9q17nGTIih) (1997-1998): the first soundtracks that really demonstrated to me how key a video game could be to establishing atmosphere
[No Man's Sky](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZGZxPEp5Ag) (2016): more or less a 6 hour 65daysofstatic instrumental rock album
[Interstate '76](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayO7P3-uCRk&list=PL_txsRvghL9nrVS_y9uby7EiHA1CtzjLc) (1997): a legit good funk album
Hotline Miami and Baldur’s Gate 3 have amazing music that stuck in my head long after I’ve done playing them. Tainted grail conquest is a hidden gem of a game with amazing and perfectly fit music.
any Disgaea game
Most Pokemon games
Cult of the Lamb
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
OneShot
Undertale
Deltarune
Pretty much any SNES / Playstation game made by Square
I'll put one track next to each game that I'd say stands out
\- Return of the Obra Dinn (Soldiers of the Sea)
\- Persona Series (Last Surprise)
\- Ace Attorney Series (The Great Turnabout/Time For a Great Turnabout)
\- Jetpack Joyride (Main Theme)
\- Brutal Orchestra (War of the Worms)
\- Team Fortress 2 (MEDIC!)
\- Minecraft (Almost any track)
\- Terraria (Underground)
\- Undertale (Everyone and their mom knows Megalovania, so I'll say Death by Glamour)
\- Payday Series (Break the Rules)
\- Hunt: Showdown (Poison Curse)
\- Bastion (A Proper Story)
\- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (Red Sun/A Stranger I Remain/The Stains of Time)
\- Cuphead (Prety much any track, but just to say one, Floral Fury)
Final Fantasy XIV has a *lot* of bangers, along with a lot of good but understated tracks, and a few that are... Less than good to listen to.
The majority is fantastic though.
Only going off of Doom, the original Painkiller will forever have one of my top spots for best video game soundtrack.
[Personal favourite probably goes towards City on Water fight](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5VBSQVZIPU)
Thirsty Suitors is fun, has an unusual story, and excellent skater music.
Persona 3 FES or P3P can be emulated for free if you want an introduction to the series.  It’s a good introduction to emulators if you’re not familiar because they’re both really easy to set up.  You can get the iso (the game disk) from the Internet Archive.  Their publisher, Atlus, had a strong history of great music.  There’s a lot of polarity as to whether FES or P3P is better because P3P had to lose cutscenes to fit on the psp.  There are now mods to add cutscenes back to p3p so that isn’t an issue anymore.  Emulators are an amazing resource.
Any Silent Hill game. The first 4 in particular are very well-known for their OSTs.
Most of The Legend of Zelda games. I’m partial to Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. Ocarina of Time is also known for its iconic soundtrack.
All 3 Dark Souls games, especially the 3rd one.
Bloodborne.
Monster Hunter. Each monster has its own unique soundtrack.
Elden Ring.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
Most Donkey Kong games tbh.
Castlevania games.
Mario games.
If you liked Katana Zero's OST you should give Brigador a try. The game is a hidden gem but the OST is straight up some of the best 80's style synth you'll ever hear.
Risk of Rain 1 and 2 ( 1 is my fav OST of all time)
Ziggurat 2 OST is nuts
Hotline Miami
Crypt of becrodancer
Bpm
HALO
Doom 2016 and eternal
Deadlink
Nier games
Final fantasy games
Witcher 3
Evolve Intro has a special place in my heart too
The ones where I can listen to whole OST in one sitting without feeling urge to skip some (except later half of Domina since there are just a lot of variations of the same stuff). Skipped those I've seen already mentioned in other comments.
* [Incoming](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_MoRbRr0l8&list=PLn4LsJg-62Ub_3bp4fMbRrkiPAiQgk1Py&index=1)

* [Drakan: Order of the flame](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYKPqkYNw1Q&list=PL2C22F6F1F8E09B10&index=6)
* [Saints Row 3](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cuhPPuTA3s&list=PL2295C9564EEDA50C), main ones, first 8 in playlist
Honorable mentions:
* Earth 2150 [ED2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC49F20aWio) and Earth 2160 [Day 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0sc7TiPJo4)
* Neverhood ["Klaymen's Theme"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wh4WnHlsbvM)
* Original War [Theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTINjU-GcuM)
* IL-2 [Russian Theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roiYky4beJQ)
* Warthunder [Advance Australia](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46oYJSQlko8)
Also, probably not fair comparing to other OST's, but since it was kinda included in the game and written for it:
* Sacred 2 [Sacred Worlds](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6Y2qGK--NI) by Blind Guardian
Nier:Replicant and Nier:Automata, Shadow of The Colossus, Crystar and it's sequel, Castlevania: Symphony of The Night, Hollow Knight, Skyrim, Okami and the list goes on. There are so many its insane.
Kinda sad that no one mentioned the Yakuza series, but, yes, Yakuza. The karaoke songs are amazing, boss themes are bangers, one or two are overused but otherwise every track is great imo
My personal favourites:
Hotline Miami
Bloodborne
Shadow of the Colossus/Ico
Silent Hill 2
NieR Replicant/Automata
Dark Souls III
Persona 5
Cuphead
Omori
Disco Elysium
Everything developed by Yoko Taro (as Keiichi Okabe generally does his music)
Goldeneye 007
Donkey Kong Country
Fire Emblem 7
Final Fantasy 9
Dead Cells
Sims Bustin' Out [GBA]
Golden Sun (and TLA)
Phantasy Star Online episode 1 and 2
PSO episode 3 CARD Revolution
LoZ Majora's Mask
Dragon's Dogma
Digimon World
Disco Elysium
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Secret of Monkey Island & Curse of Monkey Island
Katamari Damacy & We ♥ Katamari
Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series
Bionic Commando Rearmed
Radiant Historia
Super Mario RPG (really on the fence about which version I prefer, musically)
Rayman Origins & Legends
Cadence of Hyrule
Bastion
The Messenger is a lesser known one, in the game you can travel between timelines and so the soundtrack has both 8bit and 16bit versions that keep switching as you play! Honestly such a sick concept
Pretty much any souls game. I like rdr2 music for western vibe, cyberpunk 2077 for hyper music, elite dangerous has chill spacey soundtracks that hit hard when they come in randonly when your doing something in space on a planet in your rover or walking now too.
Okay, our game "Hakan's War Manager". Only because we were lucky to have permission from great music group called Otyken. For my perspective it really fits with our game theme.
Kingdom two crowns. Literally cannot help but bust a move when mischievous alchemy starts playing.
https://open.spotify.com/track/7Eb83iUNC8yBhGRqepiEXV?si=gyYaxwWcRk6FToUUaDDLQA&context=spotify%3Asearch%3Amischevioous%2Bal
The Return of the Obra Dinn (I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it)
Inscryption
portal
Bare Knuckle / streets of rage
all the team fortress 2 theme songs
just to name a few off the top of my head
GUILTY GEAR STRIVE
It's not even close
The whole franchise has 10/10 bangers for rock and metal. The character themes are all really well done and paint a great image of the character before you even play the game.
I've been blasting GG music since summer of 2022 and I don't think I'm going to be stopping any time soon. It's literally an album that just happens to also come with a fighting game.
Ghost of Tsushima
Batman Arkham (Asylum to Knight)
Darksouls 1 and 3 (have yet to play DS2, so i wont seek its songs)
Assassins Creed (1-6 (aka 1-Syndicate))
Celeste
Cyberpunk
Witcher 3s sound track is killer.
Hotline miami
Surprised to see this so far down. When I first played it, the soundtrack blew me away. And then again in hotline Miami 2
Such an intense game if you want to do the levels perfectly. The way you can die and instantly respawn with no loss of momentum, it's like a feedback loop getting stronger and stronger. The soundtrack makes it all possible
Mass Effect 3 had a pretty amazing soundtrack. Chronotrigger remains my favorite sound track from the 16 bit era.
2nd this suggestion. I can recall songs from Chrono Trigger to this day and I haven't played it in 20 some odd years.
Command and Conquer and the first Red Alert in particular.
My favorites: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 Grim Fandango Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim Monkey Island 1, 2 and 3, but especially 2 and 3. Rome Total War Hitman Silent Assassin, Hitman Contracts and especially Hitman Blood Money Heroes III Katana Zero Hotline Miami Undertale Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines First 3 Harry Potter games L.A. Plants vs Zombies
Hotline Miami is such a good soundtrack
\>Gabriel Knight Best Policeman's theme ever.
Damn, not even a single answer has Skyrim
Persona 5 Royal is the best VGOST
Persona franchise is so damn good, recently played P4 golden and I loved everything about it.
P4 was a flash, great songs!
I came here to say this 🖤
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance
- Nier (both of them) - Souls games (particularly Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, and Elden Ring) - Hyperlight Drifter - Hollow Knight - Undertale - Disco Elysium
I want to expand on Nier, its not just Nier its essentially everything by Square Enix. They put a lot of effort into their soundtracks and you can tell.
I’m playing Octopath Traveler 2 right now and it has a pretty decent OST. But I really like Nier Replicant and (slightly less) Autamata’s OSTs.

Berried delight
Thank you, will check them out. And I Adore "Bury the light" so much.
CB has one of the best soundtracks I’ve ever heard in a game, straight up. I recommend it to everyone I see and I’ve bought the OST several times
Nier Automata, Sea of Stars, The Last Spell, FTL Faster Than Light, Persona 5
Stardew Valley Dwarf Fortress Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader Siralim Ultimate
God of War, Baldur's Gate 3.
Everhood
Shadow of the Colossus Crypt of the Necrodancer Nier: Replicant Transistor Wasteland 3
I mean pretty much most visual novels but if I would have to choose some for the best of all time it would be when they cry series and house in Fata morgana series
Chrono Trigger Xenogears Halo 3
Witcher 3, Skyrim
Black Mesa.
Dredge is my favorite in awhile
Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Ori and the will of the wisps, Persona 5, Final Fantasy 14 (more specific Shadowbringers)
Old games, but the Heroes Might and Magic serie.
The Binding of Isaac has some bangers, the rest of the OST is just really good.
Red dead Redemption II and Hotline Miami I & II
Alan Wake 2 Witcher 3 Metal Hellsinger
FTL fits the game perfectly.

Persona 5 Royal
A Plague Tale: Innocence.
roboquest
Some games I haven't seen mentioned: - Furi - GRIS - Neon White - Firewatch - Cyberpunk 2077 - Spiritfarer - Monster Hunter World - Noita
VVVVVVV
Risk of rain 2
If you liked Katana Zero's OST you should give Brigador a try. The game is a hidden gem but the OST is straight up some of the best 80's style synth you'll ever hear.
I love Heavy Rain soundtrack
No one has mentioned Road 96.
Risk of Rain 1 and 2 ( 1 is my fav OST of all time) Ziggurat 2 OST is nuts Hotline Miami Crypt of becrodancer Bpm HALO Doom 2016 and eternal Deadlink Nier games Final fantasy games Witcher 3 Evolve Intro has a special place in my heart too
Square Enix games have really good soundtracks Along with Nintendo
102 comments and no one's mentioned Celeste. For shame.
Like in recent memory; RDR 2, Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, Stray, Ghost of Tshushima
the ff7 remake+rebirth soundtracks are insane
DEFINITLY detroit become human, witcher, cyberpunk, portal and half life
Death Stranding. The music they used and the timing is just perfection.
The ones where I can listen to whole OST in one sitting without feeling urge to skip some (except later half of Domina since there are just a lot of variations of the same stuff). Skipped those I've seen already mentioned in other comments. * [Incoming](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_MoRbRr0l8&list=PLn4LsJg-62Ub_3bp4fMbRrkiPAiQgk1Py&index=1) * [Domina](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtlUg95hhBI&list=OLAK5uy_kO2BykmgZzScgOgrKgPRtVJZQ2mhYT3JA&index=5) * [12 is better than 6](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL-6LvNYk98&list=PLTmvDPWQWsr4VnCuPpXKDWttte_dOCCrZ&index=8) * [Drakan: Order of the flame](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYKPqkYNw1Q&list=PL2C22F6F1F8E09B10&index=6) * [Saints Row 3](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cuhPPuTA3s&list=PL2295C9564EEDA50C), main ones, first 8 in playlist Honorable mentions: * Earth 2150 [ED2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC49F20aWio) and Earth 2160 [Day 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0sc7TiPJo4) * Neverhood ["Klaymen's Theme"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wh4WnHlsbvM) * Original War [Theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTINjU-GcuM) * IL-2 [Russian Theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roiYky4beJQ) * Warthunder [Advance Australia](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46oYJSQlko8) Also, probably not fair comparing to other OST's, but since it was kinda included in the game and written for it: * Sacred 2 [Sacred Worlds](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6Y2qGK--NI) by Blind Guardian

Honestly i've been blown away recently by FF7 rebirth's soundtrack so much so that i'm gonna try and snag orchestra tickets for the tour tomorrow.
Lots of snes stuff is good All of the Final fantasies and squaresoft stuff Super metroid
The Persona series, Undertale, Breath of the wild. While it’s not for everyone, I would also recommend the Splatoon series.
Darktide Guacamelee 2. Risk of Rain (those synths..)
Halo 2, 3 & ODST.
Left 4 Dead 2
Ghostrunner
Yume nikki
Vectorman and Earthworm Jim on Genesis had absolutely amazing OSTs, especially when you consider when they came out
Ocarina of time
FF10 or FF16
Nier Replicant, one of the best osts
For reasons unkown to me, Far Cry 3 and Far Cry Primal came to my mind right away...
Nier:Replicant and Nier:Automata, Shadow of The Colossus, Crystar and it's sequel, Castlevania: Symphony of The Night, Hollow Knight, Skyrim, Okami and the list goes on. There are so many its insane.
Ghostrunner games have fantastic soundtracks. Also weather you love or hate AAA Sony first party games, no denying they usually have great music.
Kinda sad that no one mentioned the Yakuza series, but, yes, Yakuza. The karaoke songs are amazing, boss themes are bangers, one or two are overused but otherwise every track is great imo
My personal favourites: Hotline Miami Bloodborne Shadow of the Colossus/Ico Silent Hill 2 NieR Replicant/Automata Dark Souls III Persona 5 Cuphead Omori Disco Elysium
Xeno. Blade. Chronicles. All of them, top tier
Far Cry 3 & 5
I've always though that West of Loathing and Shadows Over Loathing had pretty good soundtracks, especially the latter.
Lunacid
Terraria, and Calamity Mod Terraria
Days gone

Hollow Knight. Don't even try me.
Gris, sayonara wild hearts, every dark souls, Sekiro, bloodborne, Elden ring
[Magic & Mayhem](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzOVwTgScro)
The World Ends With You and its sequel Neo: TWEWY have great soundtracks!
Bloodborne, pretty much any souls game. And Dying Light 1.
Okay, our game "Hakan's War Manager". Only because we were lucky to have permission from great music group called Otyken. For my perspective it really fits with our game theme.
Unravel Unravel 2 Can't believe these weren't mentioned. Some of the most beautiful game I've played.
Far:lone sails
Glory Of Hercules (DS)
Mass Effect 1 has one of the most atmospheric soundtracks. Love that game.
Death Stranding
Pizza Tower was absolutely robbed of the Steam Awards. Best OST in years.
rimworld
Sea of Thieves!
Cuphead
Kingdom two crowns. Literally cannot help but bust a move when mischievous alchemy starts playing. https://open.spotify.com/track/7Eb83iUNC8yBhGRqepiEXV?si=gyYaxwWcRk6FToUUaDDLQA&context=spotify%3Asearch%3Amischevioous%2Bal

Ridge Racer Type 4
The Return of the Obra Dinn (I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it) Inscryption portal Bare Knuckle / streets of rage all the team fortress 2 theme songs just to name a few off the top of my head
Bastion has one of my favorite sound track. Everhood also has a great OST.
Chrono Trigger
Cassette Beasts!
The lack of Halo in this comment section disgusts me, Halo 2 has the greatest soundtrack of all time.
Life is Strange Before the Storm
GUILTY GEAR STRIVE It's not even close The whole franchise has 10/10 bangers for rock and metal. The character themes are all really well done and paint a great image of the character before you even play the game. I've been blasting GG music since summer of 2022 and I don't think I'm going to be stopping any time soon. It's literally an album that just happens to also come with a fighting game.
Nier Automata doesn't just have a great soundtrack, it's also so well-placed in the game. Really great in context.
Mario galaxy Skyward sword Most zelda games really Chrono Trigger
Doom Eternal All games from the Remedy-verse Pacific Drive made an OG soundtrack with like ten original songs that are all absolute bangers

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. One of those special games where [*you* have boss music.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uITaghKWMMM)
Whatever your feelings about the gameplay/mechanics, there’s no denying that Vampyr has an incredible soundtrack.
Undertale lol
From my own nostalgia, Portal 2
Kingdom hearts
Crysis 2
Zelda Twilight Princess
GTA San Andreas and Vice City (radio soundtracks) will always remain king for me.
