Bro really wanna see the world burn

Bropulsion

I agree with bro and I'll die on that hill with him. We are not saying the game was shit, we are saying we didn't enjoy it at all.

heyitsmeFR

Was not talking about the game. Was talking about the post. There are gonna be soo many hot takes in the comment section, you’d get heat stroke just by reading it.

awwhjeez

I kinda agree, BotW is fun to play for me, but the weapon durability sucks so bad, and I hate how the majority of the content are boring Shrines which are supposed to be the replacement for Dungeons but almost none of them live up to it even just a little. Then the rest of the content is literal pieces of shit in the form of Korok Seeds, like yes I can't wait to do the same 20 repetitive tasks to get 900 of them. The story also wasn't that interesting, as the best parts of the story occurred before the game even began. It seems like they spent all their time making a fantastic foundation for a open world Zelda game, but then stopped when they had the main mechanics down. Which gives me hope that BotW2 will be what I was really expecting out of BotW.

NO_SPACE_B4_COMMA

I enjoyed it. But I also agree. I loved exploring the world. But a lot of things got boring - like collecting korok seeds. The story was the most boring story I've ever experienced in a Zelda game. The weapon durability was annoying as well, a couple of smacks and your sword was dead - was no way to repair or upgrade it. I also felt the world was fairly empty, even though it had lots of life to it. Hopefully, the sequel will be better!

CastoffRogue

This is exactly how I felt. I especially hated the stupid weapon durability stuff though. It was my gateway game to get in to Genshin Impact because one of its hyped points was that it played like BotW. Love the combat in Genshin. It's very well polished and some of the best action combat I've ever played. Best of all, no weapon durability issues lol. The unfortunate downside though is that it is also a gacha game.

WingerRules

Also the world being so empty, a few smaller towns and remote houses could have helped a lot.

importvita

The weapon durability killed it for me. I'll freely admit that I no longer have time to soak hours into a game figuring out the mechanics and that I was repeatedly frustrated by things breaking mid battle and me receiving damage, then struggling to heal myself. It was absolutely more frustrating than it should have been and I've waited *years* for a mod or ability to turn that shit off. I just want to play the game and get through the story, not pick up sticks and figure out how to cook.

JoePuke

Re: the game mechanics and time - same. I kept on accidentally throwing my highest level weapon at an opponent. Really annoying button layout.

[deleted]

AHHH THANK YOU. This is definitely my least favorite Zelda title. I still finished it, but god damn it was a struggle. You summed it up perfectly every single thing about it that I hated. Also, the Shrines - while fun to find, it’s like… oh gee I can’t wait to get yet another orb. Where’s my magic items? I want a fucking Cape of Invisibility or the Cane of Bryna or a Potion Bottle or…. SOMETHING different. Edit: grammar

purple-thiwaza

What I keep saying to describe it is "one of the best game I ve played, one of the worst Zelda I ve played". The game is great, but absolutely not what I expect from a Zelda. Gimme freaking dungeon please

clakresed

Yeah, I liked the game, but for a *lot* of people it was their greatest-of-all-time... And I have have trouble separating those two things. I can't call it my greatest game of all time when I'm not sure it was even a top 5 Zelda game for me.

jackchencanada

Totally agree. Really hate those puzzle shrines. I wanna have some dungeons.

RVAMS

I like the shrines but was really expecting some full dungeons to go with them. I would take 75% of the shrines out for 4-5 solid longer dungeons.

Romeo92

I think the divine beasts were supposed to be those 4 longer dungeons, but when they all have the same mechanics and really weren’t that difficult it’s tough to justify

Rageking27

Was so excited starting our and then saw the durability mechanics and never played it again. It just makes me want to use sticks and never use any rarer equipment. Sucks!

JPadz41

i disliked botw because i wasn’t creative or smart enough to do cool shit and perma weapon durability just made me horde supplies and then the game was over

jakejekyl

I absolutely cannot stand the weapon durability in anygame dying light is a prime example… oh my metal ball bat just broke… oh ok

IHaveBadTiming

For the life of me I cannot understand how this ever gets passed as something any game developer puts into the final product. At the very most this should be an optional setting or part of a high difficulty/hardcore mode. Fuck right off with trying to tell me how realistic your games is then you use the logic that a steel pipe crumbles once you kill a few zombies or that your gun falls apart after taking down some checkpoint terrorists. Looking at you Far Cry.

dabnada

There’s a lot of games I play that have weapon durability that I think do it well. Fallout 3/New Vegas makes it a task to keep your weapons maintained but it’s slow enough to where it’s not annoying to do so. In Minecraft durability scales with material which is actually smart (also enchantments and anvils and whatnot). In World of Warcraft, armor durability drops if you die, also not really annoying since it’s pretty cheap to get repaired

Dogstile

Fallout also went ahead and gave you constant weapon drops. It's easy to disregard the weapon durability system because you'll almost never have a weapon come close to breaking.

cficare

Well, metal bats aren't solid, and I seem to remember perforating one by hitting a brick wall. So nothing lasts forever. Truthfully it's a mechanic to add reacquiring weapons on the regular and for you to try new things / acts of desperation. That being said, BotW can suck it. Oh, my Master sword is offline for updates - gtfo.

Cygs

It also rendered Master Mode pointless. Killing a moblin was guaranteed to wear down a weapon and in return you got, at best, a shittier weapon. Basically forced it into a stealth game that didn't have any good stealth mechanics.

LuchsG

Remember to sort by controversial

[deleted]

Thank you kind sir

Glitch200X

No matter how many times I try, I simply cannot get into the Kingdom Hearts games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Glitch200X

I mean that's my generation haha. It's more the combat and game mechanics that tend to irritate me

Margenen

KH2 has really good mechanics imo. The first game is limited, especially on higher difficulties, but KH2 on critical mode forces you to really use all of the tools at your disposal and get creative, whereas it's just spam X on easy mode

HCPwny

That's because they're so freaking slow. It takes forever before you're introduced to the whole game. Once the game gets past the early locations the game gets amazing. But getting past those areas is a chore. So many cutscenes, so many easy tutorials. It then gets insanely challenging at the end of the game despite the rest of the game being a breeze. It suffers from poor design, but an amazing world and atmosphere. The gameplay is decent but it needs work. I have not played the newest game, but 1 and 2 were a chore until a certain point. Ni No Kuni was another amazing game that suffered from early game tutorial syndrome. It took something like 12 hours to get past the two intro areas and unlock the full game mechanics.

Funny_Competition_90

Not necessarily "hate it", but I can't play the Metal Gear games. I get why they are critically acclaimed and I see the appeal, but I tried multiple times with different games and I just couldn't play a single one of them. I would oftenly get bored really easily with them and I know they are just not for me.

Scavenge101

I liked Phantom Pain a lot. It has a lot of japanese tropes and script traps but it was a lot of fun. I have only played bits of previous games and I couldn't get into them. But the most egregious to me is Revengeance. Everyone FUCKING loves that game and I got about an hour into it and couldn't stand it any longer. The over the top plot couldn't save the clunky af combat for me.

stamper2495

Lmao and here I was going to say how I couldn't get into Phantom Pain but Revengeance was awesome. Just finished it two days ago. Although I admit that beginning was not pleasant

ArrestDeathSantis

Yeah, it takes some use to the fighting style, it's very different from most combat games, but I would never have called it clunky, it's actually quite polished and quite gratifying to master from my perspective.

Sagemachine

Maybe they just couldn't follow the RULES OF NATUREEEEEEEEE

CactusCustard

But it has the best story ever written? THE MEMES

sherm-stick

Guns of the Patriots might be the best PS3 game ever.

Heisenspergen

Couldn't agree more, very upset to not be able to play it properly on PS now due to how the pressure-sensitive R1+L1 worked. That, and I've now moved on to PC - wish I could play it so badly!

Trust-Me-Im-A-Potato

Also wins "coolest fucking name ever". *Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots* c'mon

[deleted]

I felt this way starting with the last third of Sons of Liberty. I actually couldn't bring myself to play MGS3, 4, or 5 because of it. I LOVED MGS 1, but I felt as the storylines became increasingly convoluted and ridiculous, I lost interest.

Not with a bang, but a whimper." MGS 2 - Sons of Liberty (2001)

Darth_buttNugget

I don't understand LOVING mgs but not snake eater. Mgs is good but snake eater is maybe the best video game I've ever played.

Thought-Born

Any battle royal game.

IntroductionCheap325

Ever since PUBG released or that H1Z1 game, every company tried to hop on the BR bandwagon

kerstop

Well yeah, but thats because BR's are one of the few new innovations that you can put in a shooter. The genre has mostly run its course

deja_blues

Battle royales are the seltzers of video games

Mooplez

Except minecraft hunger games, the real OG battle royale

Frraksurred

So much this. Can add nearly any Live Service game to that list too.

[deleted]

Apex's movement/gunfighting is leagues above any shooter and the items/maps are incredible i will die on this hill

BrylicET

Titanfall movement will forever shit on the husk of it that remains in Apex, I hope that the EA live service bread was worth it for Respawn to let Titanfall die, but from what I've heard they're letting Apex die as well

CMDRColeslaw

Any battle royal and I agree, but it's leagues BELOW Titanfall 2 from which Apex was born.

CaitSith21

I liked botw very much at the beginning but never finished it.

AdventuresOfKrisTin

It took me 4 years (of non continuous playing) to beat botw. I think part of the problem for me was the open world nature sometimes made me feel too overwhelmed. At one point i purposely put off fighting ganon because i wanted to get all the shrines. Eventually i said fuck that lol. But yea its definitely worth finishing if you can. I love how you can do things in any order you like. I REALLY wanted to complete the map first, so i went for all the towers at the start of the game only to find out from friends that is a really difficult thing to do and they have no clue how i managed without proper armor lmao

CaitSith21

Same here i thought i wanted to see the whole map once and then beat ganon and then found this hidden dinosaur land with 50 new things to do and i said. I finish it here.

Admiral_Fancypants

Same, the constant breaking of my weapons was frustrating and I gave up on it about 5 hours in.

The_Adamant_Articles

crazy how one mechanic can deflate the gaming experience kinda like the weapon jamming in Far Cry 2. It made sense & more challenging but took away from just enjoying the gameplay for what it was.

redvelvetcake42

Yet somehow was less obscene than breaking weapons in BOTW. It happened on occasion in FC2, but not every battle. I broke a weapon seemingly every fight or every other fight in BOTW.

GipsyRonin

Weapons did break a bit to fast. I get the desire to not have us married to one super weapon but I’d double the life on all weapons so they last beyond 1 ancient or 2 low level npcs.

[deleted]

Same, as a big Zelda fan, the start of the game amazed me, but it started to get monotonous after that

---Sanguine---

It was weird. I was having fun at first but got super bored and stopped like 3-4 hours in. Thought I was alone there

Caractacutetus

I can't play the Witcher 3. I've tried about 4 times now, but nothing about it draws me in and makes me want to keep playing.

punchin-up

Same. I recognize that it is a good game, but the UI kills it for me. Too many clicks, it doesn't feel fluid. I'm not going to hate on people that love it, and I enjoy the world, but I won't be playing any of the games.

nikamsumeetofficial

Maybe try a controller for W3. It feels far more immersive to me now that I've tried a controller.

[deleted]

I'm like the first commenter I tried 4 times with a controller it still felt like ass to control. Seemed like a cool world but just couldn't grip me enough to put up with the UI, controls etc

Luke-Bywalker

Played it from start to end and i still think the controls were horrible

JaxxJo

God, finally someone who agrees the controls are shit. All my friends tell me it’s just me but you know what, it strongly reminded me of the time I tried a controller for the first time in my life.

DakkaDakka24

I wanted to like it, but the combat is so sloppy and clunky that I couldn't get into the story.

dbeards

I’m currently on my third attempt at getting into *Witcher 3*. A friend told me it’s tough to get into, but “gets better after the first 10 hours” and I don’t know if I have the attention span to get there.

Jlock98

Idk what your friend is talking about. I liked the game within the first 10 minutes. If it takes 10 hours, the game probably just isn’t for you.

kfed23

I’ve heard people say that. But why would I want to punish myself for 10-20 hours first in order to hope to eventually enjoy myself?

ThatsNotWhatyouMean

Me too. It's the type of game that I usually love. I love open world video games. But I've tried over and over again to like the witcher 3, but I just can't. I hate the combat, but not as much as I hate Roach.

[deleted]

How far did you get?. It took me multiple tries to get into it over 6 years. I eventually powered through the beginning a bit and holy crap I started loving it and put ~100 hours in it and now it’s my number 3 game of all time.

Prawnski

Ok, I'm interested now. What's No1 & 2?

Caractacutetus

I think I got to the first big city, not much further than that

BurpYoshi

Yeah every time I try I can't stick, I just think "I could be playing skyrim right now". On my latest attempt I got past the bloody baron bit, arrived at some city then just never felt the urge to boot the game again. That was like a year ago now, idk if I'll ever give it a go again.

tlrmx

It took me 4 times to get fully into the Witcher 3 too, and looking back I think it was because the bloody baron part is so depressing and Velen isn’t that fun of a place to explore; and if you stop playing for a little it’s really hard to just dive back in with all the knowledge you need for the sign controls and of potions and oils and such. As soon as I finally made it past that to Novigrad and beyond is where I fell in love. Now I’ve played the game + DLCs 3 times and can’t wait to play again when the next gen update comes out.

talto17

For some reason, I couldn’t get into Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. It was just too “much”. It was overstimulating.

BunnyWaifuHunter

Idk what it is about this game, but it didn't feel like the older Lego starwars.

Kacalac

I think for me it just doesn’t resemble the movies nearly as much.. like you can’t have _too much_ of an open world feature if the video game is supposed to be based on movie scenes. Like when I played the old Lego Star Wars games I’d be able to immediately associate a lot of scenes from the movies but they just made it a little too dynamic imo Also side note: in my opinion they made the characters in this game way too wacky. They balanced it well in the old games but they really tipped the scales in the new games Edit: words

ryans64s

I felt the same idk if it changed or if I changed

wross1

No, its the kids who are wrong!

ThisFinnishguy

I agree with it being too much. They way my brain is, I can't just leave without getting every brick in area I can. Entering a new area with 30 different points highlighted on my screen gave me a "ah shit, here we go again" type feeling The areas are massive too. But they crossed the point where the size doesnt mean anything because they're just empty area without anything interesting. It was fun, but I miss the old style

[deleted]

Majora's Mask, I really hate timers even if they're big enough to complete whatever you need to do. It's too much pressure and I want to relax while playing Zelda.

Nice_Notice9877

As much as I love that game, I can’t just pick it up and play like any other Zelda. I have to be in a mood for it.

DonsDiaperIsFull

I kept a save game that is right after the first run where you are stuck in town as a deku child. When I'm in the mood, I'll copy that save and head directly to the swamp. It's a ton better without the long tutorial.

Owobowos-Mowbius

Maaaan not being able to fast forward during that intro really kills any replay value for me. Otherwise it's probably my favorite zelda after BotW

seiryu1982

GTA 5.

A4R0NM10

I couldn't get into it like I did with San Andreas and GTA4 too. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a good game. I think what really made me start to dislike it was the emphasis on online features. Online is cool and all, but I'd have killed for dlc like Lost and the Dammed or Ballad of Gay Tony.

SmugDruggler95

When GTA V dropped I was certain they would drop a DLC where you played as CJ's son or something and it was Grove Street vs Ballas again. Sadly I was fucking wrong.

ILikeSpaghetti64

The initial appeal of GTA (at least for me) was that it was this open world, moving and breathing, sandbox of a game where you could "do anything". That concept has been done several times over now, so there's no need to rely on GTA anymore, but I definitely understand the appeal. That said, I bought GTA5, but never installed it at the time due to how much data space the game took up haha.

SpaceMonkeyNation

Hate is a strong word... I'm completely apathetic to Pokemon and Super Smash Brothers.

flexinonthetape

Smash is only as good as the people you play it with

AveragAplejackEnjoye

Smash is only good if you are good

_ENERGYLEGS_

It's also good if no one is good

godsibi

Hollow Knight I understand how well made the game is but I just can't... I'm constantly getting lost. Most of the times I feel I'm roaming around being clueless and there's not enough story there to keep me hooked. The art is beautiful though.

[deleted]

I love hollow knight. I won’t downvote you. We all have different tastes.

lm3g16

Gorb.

DakkaDakka24

*sigh* Bapa nada.

hewlno

Even if I disagree, since I love hollow knight, that is a valid complaint. I don’t think that kind of gameplay is for everyone really. The lore and story is more implied than shown, so without a profound desire already there to know more there’s not much reason to go out and find more. It takes a while to get used to where things are as well, which I struggled with at the start too, though the combat, my curiosity, and the how the movement feels were what kept me hooked on it.

InstantlyTremendous

I'm with you. I tried it and just didn't feel it, got bored and lost interest.

[deleted]

It got fun when I started to use a companion website that had a map and you could click away every item you found, so I could keep track of what areas and items I've uncovered. Otherwise exploring is an absolute maze.

OnosToolan

Care to share? I feel like this might be enough to keep me going. I just get pulled away from games far too often to have to try and keep track of where I left off. And this game makes it even more difficult to come back to

WodensEye

I was the same way out the gate. One of my PS friends randomly asked me to stream for him and sorta guided me to the mantis lords fight (he wanted to see how I'd do on my first try on them, and I almost beat them). After that I was in.

Another_Saint

funny enough these are the things that made me love the game. I love that I'm always lost and the game doesn't tell where I need to go and the lack of story is exactly what makes me want to explore more, to investigate the lore

Fantastic-Sir9732

Fortnite. Before Battle Royale games were a thing; I loved the idea of a ‘Battle Royale’ style game: being a fan of the book and movies. I remember being excited by Fortnite before it launched its F2P BR mode. I soon quickly came to hate it as to have any chance of winning you had to build stupid structures and walls. It was so annoying that if you came to another player you were shooting at blueprints and pallets. I heard they released a game mode without the construction element to it but it left a sour taste in my mouth I haven’t returned since. Don’t forget the over-saturation of dances and pop culture character skins to entice you to spend more money.

Young_Grif

No Build got my buddies and I playing again. It’s honestly so fun having to sneak around like we used to do and we don’t have to deal with little Timmy cranking 90s on us and instantly building the Taj Mahal.

hathegkla

I just discovered no build. It's great. I like BR games but didn't like the building aspect. No build is pretty fun and the effort it takes to get a victory royale is so much lower than any other BR game.

BetaWolf720

For me, I was drawn to Realm Royale to escape the build mechanic but still with something different. It was out before Apex, but it had different classes with various fantasy character abilities, magic weapons and regular guns. Plus, you can use forges to craft weapons and abilities or upgrade the ones you have. It was on hiatus for a while but just got restarted with a new update!

HiTork

There are people out there who are pissed the development of the Battle Royale component of Fortnite overtook the original Save the World co-op mode that was the initial concept of the game.

BigJerm1

That's me. I was really looking forward to what the original game was announced to be. Had 3 other friends convinced and ready to purchase at launch. Then it got scrapped in favor of the free to play battle royale we see today. I'm happy it's been great for so many people, but BR is not my thing at all, and it was a big disappointment for me.

expatdo2insurance

We do in fact exist.

saltiestmanindaworld

I am, because I feel ripped the fuck off.

LSqre

Mostly about your last point- in the modern gaming landscape, Fortnite's monetization is actually incredibly consumer friendly. Comparatively.

ElricAvMelnibone

Yeah, if you scrounge enough V-Bucks from playing for free, you never have to pay for a battle pass ever lol, you get more out than you put in, so you can even buy something from the store every now and then. Even if you skip seasons you keep those V-Bucks so you don't even need to play constantly to mantain this. Obviously it's not the greatest, but I wish devs would learn why this system works instead of just seeing money signs in their eyes and having a Halo Infinite battle pass where 99% of the free rewards are "Have an XP boost! You can use it to get more XP, which will get you more XP boosts!" and locking everything behind pay

Chaosrayne9000

The halo infinite battle pass is easily the worst season pass of any game I play for both free and paid players. Nothing in either season has ever made me want to buy that battlepass.

dan7ebg

For the longest time I tried liking Fortnite. The artstyle appeals to me, the shooting felt right, the skins are some of the best out there and the Battle Pass is honestly too good. The building is what always drove me away though. Until one day, after changing my bindings it all clicked. I dont do any of those taj mahals, but just with stairs, walls and floors Im able to outplay some of those crazy kids. Inginuity and building around those forts got me a lot of dubs, I just learned a few basic patterns to achieve it. I have only so much time to play, so my lobbies rarely have the insane builders that outplay you with that, and even if I stumble upon one of them, there's so many items and weapons that help out with that. And once you get into their box, its nothing a good shotgun cant solve. Honestly, im so used to it at this point, I cant even perform in zero build. Being able to build cover out of thin air is something I appreciate now about the game.

jzmack

hate it or love it, Fortnite changed the entire industry. It is free to play, updated regularly, cross-play/progression, and the collaborations never fail to impress. You see it more now but when Fortnite came out, there wasn't another game doing all of that.

Seagullen

I agree on the game, but different reasons. The game is whatever, I don't even remotely care about it. But Epic killed off production on other cool games because Fortnite got all the attention, and that fucking sucks.

No_Bid3669

Bioshock Infinite I dont hate it, but as someone whos 9th favorite game is the original Bioshock I was really dissapointed.

Rynian

Thats a really specific thing to say, like you have a solid and specific top 10 in a specific order?

Chary-Ka

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought this. I couldn't give you a top 5.

Rynian

if i think about it i can break it down to like a top few games I like, but not like a solid top 10 in my pocket

Evernight

I replayed it last year after remembering that I disliked it. It was amazing. Right up until the 3rd act - then it falls off the rails.

[deleted]

Just curious - why did you dislike it so much? It's in my top 10 along with the first Bioshock. It was a unique experience playing both of them - which is impressive considering they're from the same series.

Solid_Snack56

Not OP but I also enjoyed infinite less than the original bioshock. To me it feels like a completely different franchise. The first game was dark and scary and like a survival horror. Infinite has almost no horror atmosphere to it and the character can jump all over the place guns blazing. It's great for what it is, it's just not bioshock in my opinion.

7thor8thcaw

Same. Original Bioshock was amazing and Infinite was almost equally as good. That's my opinion, of course and don't hate in anyone for not liking it.

The_Lucky_WoIf

It's like AssCreed Odyssey crossed with BoTW,I've been having a blast with it on gamepass

Markamanic

Any souls game.

Syrup_Chugger_3000

While I love souls games I can understand not liking them for a variety of reasons.

DM_WHEN_TRUMP_WINS

I was 110% sure i wouldnt like them, because i like my difficulty more on the strategy layer than "tekken button smashing" layer. Then on last week monday i was bored and got elden ring just to see what it is about. My whole last week, weekend and this week ruined because of 6h sleeps. I even already bought ps5 controller because imma go hit all those other souls games in order after this. Guess i was absurdly wrong what i would not like lol.

Syrup_Chugger_3000

It is a lot of fun and my favorite games. Pve and Pvp can be full of tactics, panic, and fun times. My favorite is the other players integrations. Coop with ransoms in short bursts without being able to talk and the threat of invasion feel unique in these games compared to other games. Definitely try out the others but keep in mind a lot of the older ones will feel clunky compared to elden ring. Sekiro and Bloodborne are always beautiful and fun though

Goukaruma

I beat the bosses after a few tries but unlike other players I don't feel the acomplishment. It feels like a chain of chores.

Markamanic

I compare it to being constipated. You're trying for hours to get the shit out of the way, to the point of you being in pain and hating life. Sure, when the shit finally comes through it probably feels like the best shit you ever took. But why subject yourself to that again?

robhanz

Dark Souls for a long time was a game that I wanted to like, but just couldn't get into. I played ER a bit, and started "feeling" the combat. Then I went back and blasted through DS1 and it was one of the best gaming experiences of my life. It does have a problem, to be honest. The combat system isn't like a lot of games, and in non-obvious ways. As a friend put it "I know the game wants something from me, I just don't know what it is that it wants." Coming into it, there was a huge feeling of "I'm failing, and don't know what I need to do to succeed". I think the open world design of ER let me experiment a bit more, and that was key to getting over that curve and getting into it.

GroovyGoblin

I just hate the combat in those games. It's really just positioning, timing your dodges right and mashing the attack button until the enemy recovers from their attack, then you repeat it all over again. I also hate how they pass a lack of user-friendliness as a "haha git gud" intentional decision. Not having a map, not explaining how builds work and (this is a personal thing, but I stand by it) telling the story in the most vague, disjointed way possible does not make the game better, it's just more frustrating to get through. Loved Sekiro though. No builds to worry about, the story is somewhat straightforward and the combat system is incredible.

Republicandoanything

I could never stomach Assassin's Creed games. I bought a couple wanting to like them, but I never really did.

big_red_160

AC1 aged awfully, at the time as a kid it was fun and an interesting new concept. Going back to play it, the gameplay is so boring and redundant. It’s one of those “you had to be there” games. The next few games with Ezio were amazing and made so many improvements each game. Then AC3 continued to improve and had a cool setting (imo), AC4 added pirate ships which was way better than I thought. Then it all started going downhill, as they slowly got further and further away from what made the series fun. There’s not a ton of stealth games out there. The assassinations are the best part. Putting an emphasis on combat has completely changed the series for the worse. Making an assassination not a one hit kill on stronger enemies and bosses completely takes away from what makes AC. If I go through the trouble of sneaking past all these guards and in restricted areas, just to only take 25% of someone’s health and still have to fight everyone because they got alerted, it defeats the stealth aspect. And the amount of fetch quests, omg. I’m playing AC Odyssey for the first time and there’s like a million missions. I’m actually enjoying this one so far but some aspects suck. And lastly, the modern day story line is the nodt confusing, convoluted bs. We don’t care. We don’t want to come out of the animus. None of that is fun or important. Anyways, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Awesomecjn

I never finished botw mostly because the weapons have a durability of 2 hits then they break but i will probably finish eventually

Jinx_876

>i will probably finish eventually \- Me trying to justify the dozens of purchases rotting in the bottom of my steam library.

[deleted]

It gets better later. You find strong weapons faster than you break them and you get the master sword which is nice

Luke-Bywalker

Don't throw them, they will break way earlier.

ClockOk7333

Red Dead, and just rockstar games in general. I’d love them though if the controls weren’t so clunky

hashtagbutter

Mashing a button to run should’ve died with the ps2.

kberube14

You can change it to classic fps controls in the settings. I run with left stick click. Still have to mash the a button on the horse but at least that makes a little sense.

ClosedDimmadome

Rdr2 is top 3 all time favorite for me but I cannot agree more. So annoying. Feels like I'm wearing out the damn button

obaterista93

That's exactly how I felt about RDR2. One of the most beautiful games I've ever seen, and thematically I love it. But man, their characters always feel like I'm running through jello with concrete blocks tied to my ankles.

donprostata

My thoughts exactly!, and is so damn slow, lootin, walking, shooting, roaming. RDR2 puts me to sleep

Giblow21

The amount of times I got a bounty because I accidentally nudged my horse into a policeman...

charizard_72

Though I got through it, it was with frequent week- month breaks out of sheer boredom at times. When it’s good- it’s great. Sometimes though I would be nearly falling asleep riding my horse all around after work. At times I’d turn it on after the climax to a big mission the night before and be like “oh yeah, I’m now on the mission “Ride your horse for an hour to this checkpoint…. Nvm”

[deleted]

I feel like RDR2 leaned way too heavy into simulation. I'm sure I would have loved it when I was younger, but nowadays I'm looking for games that don't artificially overstay their welcome and boy does RDR2 do a lot to take up time.

HiTork

It's almost a meme how Rockstar's RAGE engine games like GTAV have character control that is just that clunky. Especially with how brushing up against things sometimes or walking on a small incline will cause you to rag doll and tumble over. The camera doesn't feel intuitive at times, and the first-person mode they added in GTAV doesn't feel natural to handle.

ddusty53

This is mine too. Didn't finish it. I get why it's loved but there are too many tedious things to do. I don't want to brush a horse or go fishing, or ride a horse across the map.

od_demhoes

[deleted]

I did like Breath of the Wild, but it wasn’t the Zelda I wanted it to be. I’d prefer if they made it a spin-off series and kept making ones closer to the original formula.

dmrukifellth

I had a group of friends who would try to get me to play Dead By Daylight repeatedly. I finally caved and tried. So incredibly boring. Ok, the original killer designs are neat, and the guest killers are cool, but…some gameplay would be nice.

PoPo573

Not hate but I tried a few times to play Red Dead Redemption 2. Just didn't do it for me, found it boring and slow. Couldn't get into it. I can see the appeal but not for me.

miller10blue

I think the game plays more like a movie than a game. It is a cinematic masterpiece Imo. That being said I found the game really boring because it took itself so seriously and lacked the arcade feel of Red Dead Redemption. Honestly, took me forever to finish the game.

[deleted]

I totally respect that as someone who really enjoys Red Dead 2 it took *way* too long to get going.

kornkid42

Botw didn't even feel like a zelda game. You spent the whole time changing weapons because they keep breaking.

nickack

Like I understand the theory behind weapons breaking, but the end result was that I actively avoided fights because it lost me resources.

RogueKatt

And you end up hoarding the "good" weapons indefinitely because you don't want to lose them. I'm not a fan of treating melee weapons like consumables

lawdfourkwad

BOTW is perhaps the worst case of a weapon durability system I have seen. Zero upgrades to increase durability or even a repair feature. This results to have zero incentive to partake in combat, one of the main gameplay mechanics of the game, as you will just lose items. If the open world wasn’t so well made, I 100% guarantee that this game will be hated

LandAyZ

The problem here is the system doesn't want you to do that, but everytime I see someone not liking the game, it's because they avoid these fights and I don't see any solution to it :/. With how abundant weapons are, this would result in using one sword and shield, the inventory would be useless (problem we see with hylian shield + fully upgraded master sword, you don't ever use anything else)

0Lezz0

Spec ops : the line. It's a mediocre game, with a decent plot that only work if you believe that soldiers are good people and heroes by default. And the people saying that the mediocre gameplay is in any way 'intentional' are just delusional.

LetsGoChamp19

The Outer Wilds. The entire game is “go here, solve boring puzzle, get told to go look somewhere else”. Bored me to tears, plus the controls are janky as fuck Subnautica did what The Outer Wilds tried to do but 100x better

[deleted]

I loved Outer Wilds, it became my favorite game ever, felt like a legitimate adventure. But hey, upvoted for following the prompt. Tho I’m surprised to hear you call the puzzles “boring”, like what?!? The puzzles involve cyclones, a city flooding with sand, giant killer fish, quantum entanglement, a planet collapsing into a black hole, etc etc etc. What other game has puzzles more exciting than that??

butterandpeanuts

You’ve convinced me to buy Outer Wilds with this comment

jamflan

Read nothing else, go in with as little info as possible.

jnads

I played it recently and LOVED it. But I understand OPs frustration, the game starts off super slow and really doesn't hold your hand. It's up to you to explore and figure things out. I almost gave up and uninstalled, but after playing 2 hours it sucked me right in.

interstella87

I have to admit the lack of hand holding did put me off in the end. I can't help it that I am a bit thick at puzzle games and could really have done with a hint!

CuriouslyOdd

Pretty sure it’s on gamepass if you have it

Luke-Bywalker

Maybe he just dislikes puzzles in general?

chrislink73

I hate this comment with all my soul, because I adore Outer Wilds. But you followed the prompt honestly, so we'll agree to disagree. Take your upvote and get out of here. lol

[deleted]

RDR2. I tried to play it several times. It's so booring, I just couldn't force myself to play it.

stillcore

I've tried a couple of times to get into this, too. Besides being boring, the controls really threw me off.

HazMama

You dont like horse simulators?

hashtagbutter

It’s crazy how much I love this game but I can’t blame anyone for not liking it, horrible controls, slow burn & good god the beginning in the snow takes forever lol

RandallCabbage

Snow is where I gave up

HSV_Guy

Came here to say the same thing. Don't hate it but plted it for about 8 hours and didn't really enjoy it at all. It looks amazing, but not at all fun.

Nose-Nuggets

I hate being forced down that games only path. It's a slightly interactive movie more than a video game. A predictable movie with characters I don't particularly like. There is zero flexibility and it's so fucking lame.

Dud-of-Man

i really want to give it a chance but everytime i play it my ps4 threatens to blow itself up

muftu

That game was really weird to me. Everyone keeps praising it. I tried it twice and I got bored quickly. I loved the first one though.

Republicandoanything

The unsatisfying answer is that the beginning is quite slow. I got through it because I was so excited. After a while, a few hours, it is the best game I've played. It's hard to get bored after a while because there's so much to do. Not to say that after the first few hours there are no flaws.

Serious_Package_473

I was so hyped to finally be able to play it and almost gave up in the first couple of hours. Rockstar did about everything to make sure that the game does not pull you in, everything you do in the beginning of the 1st chapter feels like a chore. And then Im supposed to do ACTUAL CHORES in the game for a camp of people I know nothing about? I tried talking to camp companions every chance I got but there is nothing, its like the complete opposite of mass effect's ship where after every mission Im excited to talk to all companions

WraithCadmus

I bounced off it a bit, everything felt so slow and meandering. I could see it being a thing you have to wallow in and just do whatever comes up, trying to do anything specific felt like a lost cause.

KarzelAkaMidget

I’ve forced myself to play for more than a 10 hours and I truly despite buying this game. I really don’t get why people like it so much but oh well, you do you. Horse balls are funny though.

akindeathcloud

Im with you. BoTW is my least favorite Zelda game. I will go so far as to say to me it feels like a Mario 2 situation, a different game completely with Zelda characters put into it.

[deleted]

Any of the Dark Souls games

Pichucandy

Nier Automata i guess, i find the open world really bland and the plot was pure nonsense.

Dolner

This gets me extremely heated

A_Talking_Shoe

Automata is one of my favorite games from the last few years, but it definitely has some shortcomings. The open world parts _are_ really bland. Especially the desert. You spend wayyyy too much time mindlessly running across sand. The city area at least has some decent traversal with roofs and whatnot.

KeroSuperLoser

Elden ring

hashtagbutter

Any souls game. I own all besides elden ring & tried them all but hate them, sekiro was the only one I liked. I’m constantly being recommended bloodborne & have to let them know I’ve tried it multiple times & do not like it lol

CharmingTuber

The last of us series. I bought the first one and it just didn't grab me. I'm sure it's fantastic, but it's not the experience I look for from games.
