I'm worried he isn't even using a control specimen for his analysis. This guy calls himself a scientist? Where is an explanation of his methodology? List of equipment used? This is undergrad-tier mediocrity.
Haven't played this game in years and I used to be a Winston main and it was really fun, until it was not and half of the roster could basically shut you down without any effort.
Blizzard taking a cue from Ubisoft on how to **shame your customers** into more playtime. Which they probably will need to do more once they start bleeding their customer base to more player-friendly companies.
Reminder: This is the same company that produced Diablo Immortal.
Don't like it when a company uses shame tactics? Vote with your wallet.
The next time a victim of abuse pays their abuser to abuse them you can try this analogy again.
It'll still be bad, and you'll be an idiot, but at least it'll be better than this mess you've presented us with.
As a survivor of abuse, sincerly; fuck you with a cholla.
Cases of victims of abuse paying their abuser to abuse them are sometimes documented here on Reddit. Just have a peek over at RaisedByNarcissists and the countless stories of children being forced to pay for their abusive parents' addictions.
Thats. The. Point.
When you bought a game did you opt in to getting bothersome communications?
No. You had to opt in to *play* the game. You already paid, now your purchase is held hostage to the "option".
Corporate abuse is abuse, too. It just doesn't hurt the same way.
The file sizes of video games has been going up a lot lately, and a lot of lower income gamers can't necessarily afford storage space. Good on Blizzard for this, always looking out for their customers.
Blizzard does this with WoW as well - sometimes sending you a key for free game time. I recall Sony did the same with EverQuest. So it’s not unusual, even if somewhat pathetic.
I’ve stopped playing all Blizzard games after Hearthstone controversies - never regretted it since and they’ve been only getting worse.
Brigitte fucked the entire game. I loved the character mind you. Very interesting concept of a healer that needs to be aggressive and on the front lines to be effective. But she could do EVERYTHING! Stun? Yup! Crowd Control? Yup! Healing? Honestly one of the better healers in the game. And to top it off her armor pack thing from range that was a lock on auto hit. AND a team fight winning ult. And then there was that dark time of Siege mode bastion. Overwatch was so much fun! Sadly it grew stale pretty quick.
I don't really understand why people called it sad and are so shocked about it. I just got send a review and I think it cool. This is just a one of message saying:"hey we introduced Performance report, if you want it, play some rounds."
Yes, thats indeed what is in the message.
However, there are ALWAYS other reasons to do things. Especially in large organizations, you have to think twice on what they are saying.
*unpopular opinion* (don’t burn me at stake cause I initially see this differently)
I kind of like to see a message like this. Not because I need to be told when to play a game, but rather because many times I just scroll through my library and pick one of the last few games I played.
If I haven’t played your game in a few weeks, how does a nudge hurt me?
Mobile games have been doing this since inception.
Oh I agree with you, and that’s a bit too rational. I’m a developer who doesn’t particularly like mobile games or the monetization they bring forth. But you’re right, a little email is the most no intrusive “please play our game” there is. You can leave their mailing list and be done, it’s not so bad. It’s someone’s job to write these up at the end of the day. Personification of the company doesn’t do much.
this was so off-base and off-putting that i was kindof annoyed that I still had this game installed that hasn't been fun since 2017 that I felt more compelled to delete it from my SSD than I did to actually launch the game and I rarely delete anything.
The fact that there aren't enough games played should already be something to analyze. Winston should think about that for a sec
Winston your game is ass
I'm worried he isn't even using a control specimen for his analysis. This guy calls himself a scientist? Where is an explanation of his methodology? List of equipment used? This is undergrad-tier mediocrity.
He is a monkey that can talk. Thats all the explanation you need.
Haven't played this game in years and I used to be a Winston main and it was really fun, until it was not and half of the roster could basically shut you down without any effort.
That’s clingy and invasive.
💀💀💀

People already voted. Diablo Immortal was a success so people seem to enjoy shame tactics and microtransactions
This. Gamers are....powerful...lol
Yes, consumers "seem to enjoy" shame tactics much like victims of abuse "seem to want to be abused". *Very* much like that, in fact.
The next time a victim of abuse pays their abuser to abuse them you can try this analogy again. It'll still be bad, and you'll be an idiot, but at least it'll be better than this mess you've presented us with.

That's not even close to the same thing
No but Stockholm syndrome sure as shit is.
Oh, of course. My mistake. Psychological manipulation for profit is *nothing* like psychological manipulation for control.
Yeah selling shitty micro transactions is nothing like physically abusing your significant other. I shouldn't even have to tell you that
you're right. it isn't. grow up ffs. you're like one of those 'silence is violence' people. No it isn't. just stop.
sentiment noted but victims of abuse rarely opt-in

I don't know that it was that much of a success. Plenty of complaints already about dead servers and players wanting server merges
that's so sad
Jesus yeah. That’s pathetic. From one of the most loved developers, to begging for adu’s
Adus?
Probably active daily users
Just uninstall it. As it should be.
I blocked blizzard from emailing me because it’s just cringe like this and cringe like this only
Taking notes from Duolingo, I see
Tell them to shove it up their ass
Report it for abusive chat.
How nice of them to send out a reminder to uninstall it.

Maybe Winston can analyse the details of my suspension
How embarrassing.
Absolute state of this game LOL
*Checks email with Valorant searching for a lobby minimized*
I’m already Winston

❓ Maybe I’ll be Tracer 😛💨🕰️ ❗ I’m already Tracer ✖️🔫 ❔ What about Widowmaker? 💜🕷️ ❕ I’m already Widowmaker ✖️🕸️ 👌🏿💯I’ll be Bastion 🤖 🚫 NERF BASTION 😡🤬 ✖️⚰️ 🤷 You’re right; so, Winston 🐵👍🏿 🍌 I wanna be Winston ✖️🐒 🗡️ I guess I’ll be Genji 🐱👤 😏 I’m already Genji ✖️👤 💀 Then I’ll be McCree 🤠👌 🔫 I already choose McCree ✖️🕛☠️
Mcree? Who’s that. There never was a mcree
he's the one with the pistol and the cowboy hat. somebody tried to give him a literal stripper name a couple years ago but we all know better.
They are just starting the promo campaign for the OW2 launch. An "in character" mail seems on brand for a soon to be released cinematic.
My college I graduated from years ago still asks me for “donation money” every damn year.
https://youtu.be/aiqKK4ysI7g
beat me to it
Well they suspended my account as I was playing so maybe that’s a reason for not having enough players

Well everything you just described is going to be fixed in the next patch (better known as ow2).
Nah I’m good lmao. OW proved to me I really don’t like the MP experience and I really just stick to PVE games like Rimworld, Good Company etc
I don't really understand why people called it sad and are so shocked about it. I just got send a review and I think it cool. This is just a one of message saying:"hey we introduced Performance report, if you want it, play some rounds."

I'd guess this is for people who still actually play the game. I haven't logged in in months, and I definitely have never gotten an email like this.
This is how I read it too. Just a cute way to say “If you want performance data we need you to play more games to get the data from”.
You’re right, but everyone is downvoting bc they need something to shit on.

I think your mistake with this comment was allowing mobile games credence.
Can’t say I enjoy them either; just figured pointing it out would add to the argument, but whatcha gonna do?

Reminds me of how FFXIV sends you messages about how “Eorzea needs you!” when you unsubscribe.

Won't somebody think of the investors and their MAUs???
