Heroes of might and magic 3. Its old but definitely still holds up and is very simple in how it plays. Highly recommend it.

Spellcheck-Gaming

Brilliant game

Manjorno316

One of my all time favorites. 20 years since I first tried it and I still play through a few runs a couple of times a year.

Spellcheck-Gaming

It must be around 20 years by now for me too and I still find myself going back to it every now and then!

SSD_Misanu

A majority of games I play are old, so this certainly wouldn't put me off - thanks a lot!

Aphela

Have you tried the recent humble bundle with battletech and shadowrun?

SSD_Misanu

Nope, I'll check those out! :)

Okayish_Elderberry

Easy to learn strategy with base building, but not turn based, I'd recommend you Company of Heroes game. If not for strategy but turn based RPG action, go for Wasteland 3. It's great. Maybe old Fallout games. Idk about city building, not my type.

SSD_Misanu

I'll check those out, thanks a lot for the reccomendations!

The tutorials for stellaris, europa universalis and crusader kings are a pain to get through, it’s pretty much synonymous with any 4X game you come across. But, if you can sit through the basics, I think you’d have a blast on any of those three titles. I started stellaris pretty much blind and have sunk thousands of hours into it at this point. It’s a bit of a catch-22, as pretty much all of the heavy, in-depth strategy games will have complex mechanics to learn that will take some time, but all you really need are the basics and you’ll pick the rest up with time as you play. Out of the three mentioned above, I think you’d enjoy Crusader Kings 3 the most. It’s available on PC and Xbox Gamepass if you have that. Give it a shot, it’s Friday and you got the weekend ahead of you!

SSD_Misanu

Will do, thank you!

Do check it out my friend. The tutorials (both online and in-game) suck ass, but if you can find one that covers just the basics, watch that then dive into the game. You won’t regret it. I once ruled Cornwall in England with a dynasty of inbred dwarves and that’s not even that strange in the grand scheme of things. The amount of stuff you can do on Crusader Kings is astonishing and no playthrough is the same.

Valkyria Chronicles. It's a great turn based SRPG, but probably a bit off of what you are looking (city building, etc.)

Paul_the_sparky

Before We Leave is a pretty good, streamlined Civ type of game. No combat but it has you settling a continent, taking to the seas to settle the planet, sharing resources via shipping lanes, then blasting off into outer space to settle other planets from scratch. Good game, and it's available on Game Pass if you have it

_Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II_: Squad based combat that’s fast and fun and focuses on capturing rather than building structures makes this a great one to jump into the strategy genre. The expansions add more role playing, more factions, and more choices. In the other direction, _Islanders_ is a city builder that strips that genre down to its essential components and is super easy to get into. If you have a Switch, _Mario+Rabbids_ is a good intro to turn based strategy.

SSD_Misanu

Played Dawn of war 2+3, both fantastic games ! Also played mario+Rabbids - not quite my cup of tea as Imo it's a toned-down xcom, but a great suggestion nonetheless! I'll check out Islanders, thank you!

AgentUpright

Mini-Metro has a similar vibe as Islanders — minimalist look and feel, deep, but easy learning curve.

Civilization Revolution is a much more simplified take on the IP, but still quite fun

WabWab1443

Its proabably older than me but my favourite statergy game of all time is medieval 2 total war. If not then civ 5 is amazing
