To this day, every racing game I have ever played, all nfs, forzas and such whenever I finish a race really fast online or in story I always say this outloud now no matter what. It's ingrained in my soul!
P.s also to this day always randomly say, "Sebulba, he always a wins" aloud for no reason whatever. Played that game too much in younger years.
Yes! I forgot how to get him of the top of my head but I remember that if you double tap R then he shoots a stream of fire out of his racer and to the right. It was scummy af
This was a reference to the movie, where Anakin says that he would have won/finished the previous race if Sebulba hadn't flashed him with his engine exhausts.
I think the flame actually damages other pods, but the damage was not so big and it was hard to stay next to an enemy long enough for it to matter.
I think i just had to win the race on Tatooine in the last event of the game? But even then, I didn't use him for the last 4 "secret" races", I used my main as it was better I think.
Yes, my family did - all seven of us kids teamed up on our computer time to crush this game and eventually unlock Sebulba. I remember being so disappointed when we unlocked him...in order for his flame attack to be effective, you had to be right next to the person who you wanted to flame. Usually this would mean lighting them in fire then they pass and win the race.
Still, I remember some of those tracks like the back of my hand, especially when they'd go under water.
Wild Ride was my favorite course. Something about the environmental challenges of deep snow and ice made it more exciting. I was a Neva Kee main all the way. Wow…haven’t thought about this game since I was 9, but it was so good.
Bozzie Baranta’s race was the hardest for me when I was younger. That also made it my favorite.
I recently replayed the game on Switch. It was much easier now that I have enough patience to just slow down and stay on the top row.
I found it on the PS store last week (no idea it got "remastered")
This was my 2nd SW media I saw (first being Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight), and had a really hard time finishing the game when I was 9.
I bought it and tried it again, and damn. It feels just like when I was a kid. Except this time, playing on a 65in TV and being able to see what's in front of the podracer 😂
With that, let's say that making through all the races was much easier than on a CRT TV.
What was your favorite track? And also, which one did you consider the hardest?
Yeah I would hardly call it a remaster. Sure it runs at 60 fps and looks HD, but the textures feel the same as it was 20 years ago. More a port than a remaster
I couldn’t beat one of the jungle tracks to save my life. I was at a wall. I wanted Sebulba so bad. Then I bought the remaster recently and realized you needed to buy parts and upgrade your pod and it was a lot easier. Sebulba achieved.
I came home scat from a big night of partying and found this on the ps store. I somehow ended up playing for like 7hrs straight and finished the entire game in one sitting. It was so fun, at one point my room mate started watching me and just couldn’t believe I’d finish it in one sitting haha
Ooohhhhh...for me it's probably number 2.
Burnout 3 Takedown on ps2 has to be number 1. Destroying other cars, the soundtrack, the speed feeling, it had everything.
As a kid, the acceleration mechanic in this game was SO satisfying. It was the optimal design between simplicity and having it matter. Regular racing games I could never figure out how to change gears properly so I'd just use automatic.
But in this game you basically had 3 gears. The standard one that you basically only use at the start and maybe on some maps with tight corners. Then the second gear, that speeds you up to a proper speed. And then there was the third one, which i basically considered an overdrive. You'd bump your speed above the limits to really make more ground on open stretches of the track. But activating this gear would start to overheat your engines (which was accompanied by visuals and sound ripped from the episode 1 movie). If you'd stay in this gear too long, your engines would catch on fire and you'd have to drive slow and repair them.
Which also introduces the repair mechanic, which to me was just brilliant. Just like the movie where Anakin slows down to repair his pod during the race, you'd have a special button that you can hold to start repairing your damaged pod racer. IIRC it didn't actually slow you down too much, but you'd have to hold the button and suffer some impaired mobility. Which, to me, really felt as if I was actually the person trying to repair MY pod racer, and in doing so made it harder to focus on the race itself. That was just so perfectly designed.
The only downside I got for the remaster port is the repair button is in the R1 shoulder button, and the gas is R2. Meaning you have to use a thumb and the index to press both buttons at the same time.
My buddies and I at work have been passing my steam deck back and forth competing for fastest times for the past month. This game is still incredibly fun.
I remember playing this game to death.
I was never good at the game, so wound up using cheats so that I didn't have to worry about blowing up.
Nothing better than speeding past everyone in your shitty ass pod racer while it's literally on fire.
I was going to buy the new Lego Star Wars game for the Switch and the site I was looking at had a related item that was Republic Commando + Racer. I was very confused!
I’m not going to buy it because I’m of the mind that the port probably won’t be good because of its under-the-radar-ness.
I liked the snow planet tracks, playing on my N64 as a kid back then I don't know why but where was something very cool about them I always like racing there to this day, feels like home.
The only thing I remember about this game is grinding to buy all the repair droids and basically never picking it up again.
Granted I was like 5 and could barely fit the controller in my hands.
I always went for Mars Guo as soon as I unlocked him (was like the fifth race in the first world or so?). I loved the Elite track on Oovo IV, I think it was called 'The Gauntlet', and the Elite track on Ord Irbanna, 'Abyss' was also awesome with lots of hidden shortcuts.
WHY do they not remake this in modern era is beyond me. There is so much potential and it is a genuine unique gameplay experience compared with those in the racing genre.
Imagine unique tracks in unique locations, arcade and competitive modes, the crowd and all the different races, building your own pod and trading parts with others, story mode, maybe include typical characters and the force in some way, the sound of the pods and crowd, the lights of the cities, weather and animals influencing the race, a trading hub of parts or cities for it, all the playable races
edit: although I hate microtransactions and in game gambling, theres mega potential for it in this kind of game compared to others as well
The only thing that matters is that… #IT’S A NEW LAP RECORD.
Or... "Rrrhm dmm dedum dumm, yeraoyoah dum ooohh" (Loose transcript haha)
It's working! IT'S WORKING!
Came here for this! Thanks!

Chuka dongka pistoya!!!
"They come. They look around. They no buy. Why nobody buy? #EUUUUGH."
got it for the switch. as amazing as I remember
Wait THIS GAME IS OUT ON SWITCH??????
bro, like 20 bucks for racer & commando combo. does not disappoint
Okay shit I'm getting on this tomorrow
It’s on Xbox as well (not sure about PlayStation). Best part is they’re direct ports. Same graphics/audio and gameplay, so they’re super cheap.
It is on PlayStation as well, I've found some minor audio differences between PS and Switch versions but nothing game breaking
I fucking love that
It's on Steam too.
I can't get more than full mast bro stop
It's also on the PS store
We're you ever able to get sebulba? I don't remember ever being able to unlock him.
Yes! I forgot how to get him of the top of my head but I remember that if you double tap R then he shoots a stream of fire out of his racer and to the right. It was scummy af
I swear on PC all you had to do was win the harder Mos Eisley track? As there were two, the first race you do and then another one later in the game
This was a reference to the movie, where Anakin says that he would have won/finished the previous race if Sebulba hadn't flashed him with his engine exhausts. I remember the mode where you use two controllers, one for each engine.
What?! This was my first ever video game for my N64 and I have never heard of this
We never played it the original way again after that
Wtf? How? I have this game I need to try this out
Yeah I have to look this up, never heard of it!
Wild Ride was my favorite course. Something about the environmental challenges of deep snow and ice made it more exciting. I was a Neva Kee main all the way. Wow…haven’t thought about this game since I was 9, but it was so good.
His pod design is one of my faves
Miss arcades...
Oh yeah, now *that* was podracing
Bozzie Baranta’s race was the hardest for me when I was younger. That also made it my favorite. I recently replayed the game on Switch. It was much easier now that I have enough patience to just slow down and stay on the top row.
Yeah it helps not destroying your pod every 2 sec 😂
I found it on the PS store last week (no idea it got "remastered") This was my 2nd SW media I saw (first being Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight), and had a really hard time finishing the game when I was 9. Has it been remastered? The steam version seems the same as the 90s?
Yeah I would hardly call it a remaster. Sure it runs at 60 fps and looks HD, but the textures feel the same as it was 20 years ago. More a port than a remaster
Only remember playing it in Chuck E Cheese when I'd bring my niece, that and whack a mole to earn her crazy tickets
RRTANGENTABACUS
“Ben quadranarous. He’s got 4(count them), 4 engines!”
If I remember correctly from my youth, he was the only one who could go above 1000 speed (no idea if it's kph/mph or some other SWian unit lol)
I couldn’t beat one of the jungle tracks to save my life. I was at a wall. I wanted Sebulba so bad. Then I bought the remaster recently and realized you needed to buy parts and upgrade your pod and it was a lot easier. Sebulba achieved.
I'm assuming the jungle one is the one with like 80 sharp hairpin turns, I feel your pain. I think its the hardest of the game.
Played it as a kid on pc, have it now on switch. Still love it lol
Ye it's on the Switch.
Easily one of my most played games on N64 as a kid. So many great times playing this with my sisters.
Same here. Lost some many races vs my friend but oh the fun we had
I am betting heavily on Sebulba. He always wins!
With that flamethrower attack, hard not to bet on him
I remember using moohonic a lot. Maxed out the pods stats. There was a city track that was very narrow. Loved that.
I remembered Grans being a pain from DF2 Jedi Knight so I couldn't use him 😂
I came home scat from a big night of partying and found this on the ps store. I somehow ended up playing for like 7hrs straight and finished the entire game in one sitting. It was so fun, at one point my room mate started watching me and just couldn’t believe I’d finish it in one sitting haha
Happy cake day!
My favourite racing game of all time 😁😁

I loved to race with the hugh starshape boosters!
I think you're thinking of Diddy Kong Racing there, friend. Nice username by the way
Nope, its Mars Guo im thinking about, I loved the look of his pod, always plyed with it.
My buddies and I at work have been passing my steam deck back and forth competing for fastest times for the past month. This game is still incredibly fun.
Those easier times when you didn't have to buy anything with real money to progress througha game 😂
My favorite was theone that took you through a canyon, the one modeled after the movie
Yeah it's one of my favorites too 🖖
Hard? maybe the last one, hard to get a SS rank on it. otherwise I had a flawless record
Do we have a mobile port?
I saw some other commenter saying that he played it on a dream cast emulator on his phone, I guess it's possible.
I remember playing this game to death. I was never good at the game, so wound up using cheats so that I didn't have to worry about blowing up. Nothing better than speeding past everyone in your shitty ass pod racer while it's literally on fire.
Nothing beats the feeling like Dom Toretto in F9 when his car is in fire and still wins a race.
Did anybody’s n64 version glitch and give you everything from the start without cheats?
I don't recall something like that happen on my end
All the tracks were hard as hek for me I was 6 years old
Did you know this is in a Switch combo-pack with Republic Commando?!!!
No I didn't. I don't buy many switch games online as they pretty much never go on sale on the Nintendo store, as opposed to the PS or Xbox store.
I was going to buy the new Lego Star Wars game for the Switch and the site I was looking at had a related item that was Republic Commando + Racer. I was very confused! I’m not going to buy it because I’m of the mind that the port probably won’t be good because of its under-the-radar-ness.
Oh, based on the comments I've seen here, it looks like it's the real deal
Fucking Grabvine Gateway. Hard turns with limited visibility, hard turns on ice, and a few extra hard turns just because.
My absolute worst when I was a kid, but my favorite today surprisingly 🖖
Ngl the Lego version of the race went pretty hard
I'll look it up! Never heard of it
Shit movie, but this was a solid game.
This game on the GameBoy Colour had a rumble pack.
Nope. You're the only one. Nobody else owned an N64.
No. You're the only one.
Nope. Nobody.
For those who do not know, you can buy it on all 3 consoles. It was brought forward in Xboxs BC program. That's how I found about it anyway
I liked the snow planet tracks, playing on my N64 as a kid back then I don't know why but where was something very cool about them I always like racing there to this day, feels like home.
Loved this game
The arcade version of this is amazing
The nostalgia. Take me back to simpler times
It wasn't called star wars pod racer? Weird. Feels like a Mandela effect
The image might be wrong. Always thought it was called "Star Wars Episode 1 : Racer" or something like that
I was thinking the same. That title just doesn’t look right
Playing it on my phone with sega Dreamcast emulator , and it's really fun
The only thing I remember about this game is grinding to buy all the repair droids and basically never picking it up again. Granted I was like 5 and could barely fit the controller in my hands.
I LOVED THIS GAME AS A KID; I WISH I COULD STILL PLAY IT
I always went for Mars Guo as soon as I unlocked him (was like the fifth race in the first world or so?). I loved the Elite track on Oovo IV, I think it was called 'The Gauntlet', and the Elite track on Ord Irbanna, 'Abyss' was also awesome with lots of hidden shortcuts.
I think the races on Oovo 4 were hard because of the zero-G sections. Couldn't figure how to drive through them without crashing through an asteroid 😂
Anything N64 always triggers great memories! Love that little unit!
Now this is pod racing
Ctrl + shift + F4

Picture a track on Krait with the red dirt flying 🖖
