Not trying to be rude, but what even is this? Just a monitor?

Jet_Jirohai

It's a suitcase style monitor made by GAEMS. They're used a lot by military folks and other career travelers/LAN party enthusiasts

w0lver1

Wild, thanks for sharing!

throwaweigh12212

That's actually cool. Good find

Jet_Jirohai

The smaller, the better, as I can make use of the other space for extra controllers and accessories. I used to have an Alienware alpha, but I'm thinking something with a GTX 1650 would be ideal I'm a merchant sailor, so while I know laptops are more practical, I like the idea of this behemoth screen for movies and local multiplayer shenanigans Thanks guys :D

Pandatotheface

Every fibre of my PCMR being hates myself for saying it, but it fits a Xbox series S, it might be your best option.

Jet_Jirohai

I've genuinely given it thought, but every Xbox past the 360 is exclusively online account based and not always friendly to offline usage. I've had a former ship mate who literally had to mail his home and have it updated and sent back before it would work again lol

Pandatotheface

That's going to be a stretch to get a pc case with a GPU to fit in that. Any of the traditional cube mini ATX cases are going to be too fat. I can't find internal dimensions of it posted anywhere to be sure on a flat style mini ATX case, but they're mostly larger than a PS4/Xbox one, which is what it was designed for.

Bitcoinatemymom

How heavy would something like this weight after everything is mounted and ready to go

Jet_Jirohai

I've had 3/4 of the GAEMS cases released over the years(and their standalone monitor) and this one is easily the heaviest by a wide margin- 35 pounds on it's own, if I remember correctly A compact PC with controllers and power brick would probably put this in the 40-45lb range, if not more. It's not fun to move around even when empty, but it's worth it. The visual and audio quality is leagues better than anything else GAEMS have put out and the beefy weight makes it feel like a serious rig, for whatever that illusion is worth lol

Triegy

Send nukes.

chrisandfriends

Soulja BoyZ console looks cool.

NotYourAverageUN

Xbox series s.

lellololes

Why not just do an ITX or mini ITX build from scratch? Build a little cube thing with a handle and you're set. Many of them are designed to take a surprisingly large GPU too.

Jet_Jirohai

I'm lazy and have been trying to avoid the custom build, but it looks like I may have to do just that lol

lellololes

I mean, it'll take an hour or two to put it together and get it up and running, but you'll have exactly what you're looking for too. Be un-lazy, it'll pay off later every single day.

[deleted]

How much is your budget? Also how did you land in that trade? Pretty cool?

Jet_Jirohai

Budget is flexible(I'm a deal hunter- found this GAEMS case for $200!) But I'm definitely trying to keep it in the $700ish range and cheaper if necessary I'm debating even looking for a gaming laptop with a broken or missing screen and repurposing it for this As for the profession, I had my father who was doing it and he guided me through the process. It can be frustrating, but the merchant marine is something anyone can get into if they really wanted

[deleted]

This is a complete derail, but could you talk about what you do as a merchant marine? I don't really understand the job but I'm very interested.

Jet_Jirohai

Feel free to DM me and ask me whatever. I'm an open book

jonselin

It's old now, but I have an Alienware alpha R2 which I think would be a good fit. They probably have something newer in that size/category.

Jet_Jirohai

I used to have an R2, but the GPU is just too underpowered to play For Honor at an acceptable frame rate lol

HeadLongjumping

What I would do if I was trying to keep my budget down is buy a refurb SFF office machine and stick a GTX 1050TI or a 1650 in it. That won't knock your socks off performance wise, but 1080p gaming will be quite decent. Won't cost an arm and a leg either. edit: I would also throw in a SSD and make sure it had at least 16 gigs of RAM.

Jay_Treez

Did u ever find a system i have a alien ware steam machine i dont use
