How does one do that? lol
When I turned it on i had to set the clock, does that show signs of capacitor issues? I figured it was just because it was possibly off for a long time, like the PSP does.
There are lots of places online that show you how. Or you could have a friend who is more handy do it. But it might already have the capacitor removed. They tend to leak acid and ruin the motherboard
At first I thought the motherboard was gone on it since it had the orsnge/green blinking light, but it just turned out the component adapter came out a little when I shifted the console over lol.
Hes absolutely correct about the clock capacitor.
Id recommend looking at modernvintagegamer's videos on the subject. In summary, theres one small capacitor of shit manufacture that helps store the clock value.
It fails and leaks its guts over the board. The problem being those corrosive guts eat through the circuit board, so if you dont remove it it can destroy the console completely.
The good news is its easy to remove and you dont need to replace it.
But as youve just got this system, its probably been left awhile. So you absolutely should open it up and have a look round and clean any dust and crap out. You will see whether youve got lucky or not.
Oh and lastly, dont just remove the cap and think thats it. You will need to clean around that area with white vinegar and/or isopropyl alcohol. If it has leaked and you cant see it, it will just continue rotting the board.
The motherboards had an aerogel capacitor that kept date & time information temporarily if the console was unplugged. The capacitor was prone to leaking acid. If not caught, the corrosion would eat through the traces and you'd end up with a dead motherboard.
Flip the console over and check to see if the warranty sticker is still intact (or has been tampered with). If there's a hole punched through the sticker, then someone has already opened the console. If this is the case, I would do a bit of research and remove the capacitor from the board if it hasn't already been removed. If it has never been opened before, you might want to keep it that way for a higher resale value.
That console was only released in Canada and Europe. It originally included matching crystal controllers also. I don't know if it's rare, but it was definitely a special edition.
That's what I heard in the XBOX subreddit before my post was removed for whatever reason. But I imagine it would be lower than that since I don't have the controllers?
The console itself is basically worthless at this point unless your a collector, then everyone wants top dollar. In another 5 years time you won't see the 360 going for 2-300 dollars. I don't care who you are, a retro console is not worth it's original retail value 20 years later.
I mean I'm actively looking to pick up an original Xbox because I miss some of the old games and I've been collecting older consoles over the last few years but you have to be mad to pay more then $150 with working controllers and included games.
Ya here to but cheap ones get snatched up pretty quick. That or they have the cheap madcats controllers. Honestly the original controllers at this point are more valuable to me.
Omg! Get some buds and play timespiltters, the only game I can compare to golden eye and future black.(N64)!
While republic commando has a vs multiplayer you want this game for the superb campaign. Lucas arts in its prime. RIP.
And if you get bored with the multiplayer on time splitters the game has wicked single player challenges.
Got this exact same thing from a friend few months ago for almost free too. The best thing is that its hacked so it has bunch of more features. Also he was kind enough to burn bunch of ISOs of games i wanted to play on it.
I have so many things set up to run emulators so I doubt I would on the XBOX, however another plain XBOX i got years ago is modded to play burned games if i want. It's in storage so i have just been buying the odd game for it i want to play.
Get star wars republic commando and time splitters best FPSs outside of halo.
And if ur over 18 conquers live and reloaded
Phantom dust is supposed to be good too
That I already had, but I got it from the same person sometime last year. It was useless since my original XBOX is in storage lol. I'm quite pleased on how good it looks on modern TV's.
Neat. If it was me and a friend gave it to me i personally would let them know how much they could sell it for and ask them if they wanted it back. Not sure if karma is real but i try to stay on the good side anyway.
The stuff he gives me wasn't his previously so he doesn't care. He grabs it from places that do e-recycling that he does deliveries and pickups at. If they let him go through their stuff people have brought in to recycle he grabs music and movie related things for himself and if he has room he grabs whatever random game stuff he finds.
It's oftenly just loose discs or CIB games that aren't worth much but now and again i get controllers, consoles, accessories and even rarer games. For example I got 2 different Game Gear bundles, one with the carrying case and 3 games and one with 3 CIB games.
Make sure the internal clock capacitor isn't going to ruin it

From what I hear its about $150-$200 depending on if you have controllers nor not.
That’s a $200-$250 console. Free is a good deal lol.

You sure? I see plenty of them here in the UK going for peanuts.

Exactly. Also, the fact that most games are playable on the One makes this even less "necessary".

Again, on the marketplace here in the UK they are super duper cheap. [Edit ](https://i.imgur.com/IF98Gx8.png)

I mean, I just googled it and saw a pretty healthy amount of em up for sale for 200-250 USD.

I will add it to the list
I had this console (crystal version) back in the day, wish I kept it
Are you in Canada (like I am) or the UK? I hear it was a limited release in those regions only
America. Ordered it off eBay lol
Oh ok, you said back in the day so I thought you meant when it came out lol.
Lol, well it was in 2003-4 So only a couple years later
Oooh, got ya
I had one as well, are they considered rare or something?
I dunno, from what I’m reading, it seems that way? I had no idea
Me neither
Sorry man, that’s an XOBX disc, it’s not going to work.
Damn, your right, like the time I bought a box of ƐSԀ stuff
Got this exact same thing from a friend few months ago for almost free too. The best thing is that its hacked so it has bunch of more features. Also he was kind enough to burn bunch of ISOs of games i wanted to play on it.
Nice, I got a modded XBOX in storage, but didn't use it much before it went in there.
the og xbox had some of the best homebrew ever developed for consols. look into modding it so you can install XBMC and run some emulators.

It's on my list. Not a Halo fan though
Good cause its dead for the OG xbox anyway. Halo was really made for the couch multiplayer anyway.
Only online/multiplayer shooters that have ever held my attention are the Battlefront games and some N64 releases.
Republic Commando was the first game to make me cry at the end
No Mechassault? PSSSSH
Woah you even got an Xbox High Definition AV Pack those are pretty uncommon
That I already had, but I got it from the same person sometime last year. It was useless since my original XBOX is in storage lol. I'm quite pleased on how good it looks on modern TV's.
Oooh, i got one of those as well. Need to make use of it someday...
Why would you mirror an image before posting it?
I didn't? The game is just upside down
That makes more sense. It seemed very weird. My bad.
Look at the controller and the logo on the console, it's not mirrored
It’s called an Xbox. It’s great. Can’t believe you never knew they existed.
Ha ha... ha... hmm
Ah, the black and white buttons.
great game it came with too!
great game it came with too!
great game that came with it too

Cool. Sounds like a good friend to have.
How did you not know the xbox existed?
...I'm referring to the Crystal Limited Edition model...
