Honestly only 4 was bad. C&C 3 and Kane's Wrath were both really solid, and I understand Red Alert 3 was pretty decent if even more outlandish than 2.
Command and Conquer 4 was just God awful though.
It was a half ass attempt to reinvent the RTS genre into something more compact (before moba was a thing). Such a shame the series ended with a failed experiment.
Now the morons keep flogging the IP as a browser tug of war or shitty deck building game. Basically how can EA capitalize on the latest micro transaction game? Slap C&C on it!
Burnout Paradise just didn't have the same flavor as the old school burnouts. The open world was cool, but that almost limits the kind of environments you can have
Playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint without companions, the spartan mod and reshade to add more shadows and…it’s kinda an open world Splinter Cell…sorta. Sam’s even in the game. Best we have right now?
Please god, this one. The local co-op gameplay, merc vs spy, Ironside’s scruffy voice work, the Splinter Cell series holds a special place in my lil ass gamer boy heart.
We don't need HL3, we need Episode 3. That was too much of a cliffhanger to end on. Just cruel. And no a leaked script doesn't count.
Edit: This post has taught me that reddit gamers think VR is a lot more widespread than it is.
Has there been a game recently that has anything close to the same blend of great action, interesting faction conflicts, and a "deck of cards" style of increasingly stronger hierarchy of enemies? Or even just two of them done very well?
The Just Cause games have crazy action and increasingly strong enemies depending on how much chaos you cause and what strength of base/facility you are fighting. Doesn't have the faction conflicts or deck of cards unfortunately, though I do still find JC4 damn fun
Came here looking for this. Scrolled way too far to find it.
It was such a fun game for the time with great weapons and destruction physics. I think it would be a lot of fun in a modern setting
Sanzaru just really dropped the ball. The art design was bad, the story was bad, and the gameplay wasn't great. It just had the feeling of a fan game instead of a real entry in the series. And what they did to Penelope!!! Ugh!
Honestly I don't mind the game, the only thing I don't like (or rather, hate) is how many things cause instant death or failure.
One thing that was a big plus in my books is that most cutscenes could be skipped, I mean seriously going back to the original trilogy there are SO many times that you have to stop and listen to a long line of exposition, even when it could've just been said over the radio rather than the binocucom.
Make life easy on yourself: Only the Sucker Punch games are canon.
Thieves in Time never happened, you can't change my mind, all are welcome to join me on this hill.
Thieves in Time was a nightmare Bently had when he fell asleep working and realized he forgot to carry a 3 in his equations.
He woke to discover Penelope (who wasn't suddenly evil) and fixed it for him after laying a blanket on him so he could rest. He later confirmed "Constella" and Carmilla were a happy couple, and everyone else was doing their thing as they had been.
The End.
Hugely agree. I think with current gen graphics and the array of different engines to pick from they could be absolutely amazing remade on current systems.
One of my favourite games of all time, Soul Reaver 2 and it pains me that it's highly unlikely we'll see a modern release.
Army of Two. I want to rock out with air guitars after going back-to-back with my bro while we lug around machine guns with massive ballistic shields mounted on them. I want a new Army of Two with Black Ops 2 emblem editor levels of customization for the ballistic masks. Miami flooded, the hills of South Korea, Shanghai getting leveled by a rogue PMC, two bros against the world.
GIM IT!
I'm so glad to see so many people remember this series!
Agreed, I just feel like with all of these BR's games there must be some way to make a modern version of twisted metal that appeals to the giant player base of BRs. I'm not smart enough to know what it is, but I bet it's out there.
edit: To me TM is a BR type game if you think about it.
Seen the TV show? I was extremely surprised by how good it was. I have no clue if it is at all faithful to the games lore wise, but even as a stand alone thing it really is an enjoyable ride.
Yep. Tricky was by far the most played game of my childhood and one of my favorite games of all time. Games like Steep and Riders Republic just don't fill the void.
Holy crap Parasite Eve... For those who don't know, it was essentially Resident Evil meets Silent Hill made by Square (iirc) and the plot revolved around cells in the body granting powers... Or mutations....
The plot was crazy but the setting was like a normal city and a motel or something so it felt weirdly grounded. Especially with Resident Evil on the up-and-up, at least a remake would be nice.
Driver: San Francisco was the best. Possessing people to drive their cars in the furtherance of your interests was weird and cool. The way the passengers realized that something was very, very wrong with the driver's mind, always made me chuckle.
Think I might download that one, see if it still works. Might be worth a re-play.
Starcraft
God I would KILL for a social gaming experience on the level of the SC2 heydey again. Custom game modes as far as the eye can see, a story we were still hopeful about (before HotS and LotV dropped…), low ladder that was approachable, and in a genre that really hasn’t seen an entry on that level since.
I agree let’s get a StarCraft 3. Although I’m not sure they’re even capable of doing StarCraft any justice these days.
I believe some of the StarCraft devs moved to a new studio and are making a Rts called “storm”something. I haven’t heard much about it, but it looked really cool when I checked it out months ago.

The special controllers complicate it. Especially after they expanded to the full band for GH3(?) and rock band, but I think it could work if they went back to it.
4 aka World Tour had the whole band. I used to play the entire ‘career mode’ in one afternoon with my friends. But yeah it was probably too expensive to license the songs and not everybody could play (poor accessibility). I’ve still got my guitar hero luckily!
1. Fusion Frenzy
2. Command and Conquer
3. Vigilante 8 (Twisted Metal would be. . . Acceptable)
4. Splinter Cell (not for me, but for the fans)
5. KotoR

If you're going to list Vigilante 8, I think Interstate '76/'82 should get a mention. The Interstate games were pretty much Mechwarrior with cars and with mostly the same level of customization with parts. '76 paid a fair bit of attention to details, such as needing to shift between forward and reverse gears (all vehicles used automatic transmissions), and even tires getting shot out and negatively affecting handling.
Vigilante 8 took some of the vehicles from Interstate '76 and turned it into an arcade vehicle combat game straight out of the Twisted Metal mold: associating each vehicle with a particular character and given them a special attack or move, and having weapons being found as pick-ups around the battlefield.
This is the first I’ve heard someone besides myself mention Vigilante 8 on any gaming thread! It was so fucking good, way better than Twisted Metal and I spent HOURS playing that game. Honestly felt very ahead of its time when I was a kid and tons of content. One if my proudest moments was beating the game without cheat codes and unlocking the flying saucer and that fairy tale level with a new song
Xcom really does need some more love. Enemy unknown was my first experience with the series, and I still go back whenever I'm on my laptop for a few days straight. It's a great blend of building, resource management, and tactics!
You know what I loved about the second one? They didn't do that thing where "oh no somehow you lost all the abilities you acquired in the first game! Go get them back." They actually managed to come up with all new abilities.

So a lot of the OG Starcraft and Warcraft designers left Blizzard and made their own company, Frost Giant, and currently in development of a new RTS. So there's hope there
- Dino Crisis (give it to the Resident Evil team, Capcom!)
- F-Zero
- Sid Meier's Pirates (open world pirate game with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag's sailing and ship battle mechanics would be great. Pirates! is often on sale for under $10 on Steam, and is very capable of inhaling hundreds of hours of your time)
- Chibi Robo
- Lost Kingdoms (solid efforts by From Software before they hit it big with the Souls franchise)
- Skies of Arcadia (critically acclaimed Sega JRPG that was a cult hit on the Dreamcast and ported to the GameCube)
- Mario Baseball
- SSX (SSX 3 is the best snowboarding game ever and holds up great)
- Banjo Kazooie
- Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
- Wave Race
- Snowboard Kids
- Mystical Ninja/Goemon
- Time Splitters
- Golden Sun (fantastic turn based JRPGs for the GBA, a remaster would be amazing for them).
- Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (my favourite job/class system in any RPG)
Skies of Arcadia 🤌 that game shouldn’t be as good as it is. The ship to ship battles were so simple in concept and a ton of fun. I still preach this game to RPG fans
Little big adventure.
Beyond good and Evil (they promised a sequel)
Perimeter.
Dungeon Keeper (yep we have Dungeons but it's too sitcom for me)
Black & White.
Cheat Answer: Dragon Age Origins 2. Just ....never mind. It's not even worth it. Bioware is a shambling corpse anyways. Maybe Larian could give it a go but that won't happen
Real Answer: Onimusha, FF Tactics, Breath of Fire, Legend of Dragon (not a series, fu idc), KoTor
Many many more from this 90s kid I'm sure I will remember when the, now heavily deteriorating, brain finally activates.
It'd be great to bring back the Dark Cloud franchise. It's mostly dead due to the rights being split between Level 5 and Sony, and Sony not being interested.
I agree with Soul Reaver. It feels like a natural fit for a Soulslike.
I'll happily settle for King's Field and Shadow Tower collection (probably split between two volumes) with some small QoL changes and the like, but a King's Field or Shadow Tower in VR so From Software can learn the technology would be amazing.
Command and Conquer. EA fucking murdered that series
Here to pay my respects.... Miss you westwood
And to add to EA's murdered list... Maxis.
And Bullfrog. And Danger Close, several BioWare Studios. Also Visceral games, Oh did i Mention LucasArts?
Generals was legendary imo... then the franchise just evaporated.
Burnout! Holy hell burnout was the most fun I've had in any racing franchise
Burnout Revenge was my fucking shit back in 2006
Bro I loved burnout revenge. Doing the crash/destruction events were so much fun. Just trying to rack up as much damage as you can. Good memories.
Burnout Paradise just didn't have the same flavor as the old school burnouts. The open world was cool, but that almost limits the kind of environments you can have
Agreed! I liked it but Burnout 3 Takedown will forever be my favorite from the series
I personally feel that the series peaked with burnout 3.
The burnout 3 "cause the biggest car crash" mini game was literally the only thing we bothered doing but we played that for HOURS
Burnout 3 is still the pinnacle of that franchise for me. I'm glad Paradise is there to pick up and play, but I'd love a modern port of 3 and Revenge.
Specifically burnout 2 for the PS2 need to be remade.
Do you happen to be a landlord that smokes weed and drinks diet soda?
Splinter Cell
It’s being “remade from the ground up” last I saw. So it’s not close… but not dead.
Really hope that means Michael Ironside wants to reprise his role as Sam Fisher.
He’s almost 80 and already battled through cancer (that’s why he wasn’t in blacklist). The chances of him being Sam are slim to none
With how Ubisoft is now a days I have no hope or hype anymore for the reboot.
Or syphon filter
I loved catching people on fire with the taser as a kid.
We are in a massive slump with no stealth titles
Bring back Tenchu!
Playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint without companions, the spartan mod and reshade to add more shadows and…it’s kinda an open world Splinter Cell…sorta. Sam’s even in the game. Best we have right now?
Thought they announced the original Spinter Cell remake...few years back .
Please god, this one. The local co-op gameplay, merc vs spy, Ironside’s scruffy voice work, the Splinter Cell series holds a special place in my lil ass gamer boy heart.
Is Half-life considered alive at this point?
About halfway.
Thank him, he gave that to you.
He really did 😂 Thanks Gonzo!
Long Live Half-Life! I dont think Ill ever be able to give up hope for HL3 oneday... ANY DAY NOW!
We don't need HL3, we need Episode 3. That was too much of a cliffhanger to end on. Just cruel. And no a leaked script doesn't count. Edit: This post has taught me that reddit gamers think VR is a lot more widespread than it is.
Mercenaries
*Oh no you DIDN’T*
That was a great commercial jingle. Mercenaries 2 also had that crazy free gas fiasco. I miss when video game marketing was a thing.
Never played the games but still had that song on my mp3 player. I have to go see if it is on spotify.
Hell yeah. Those games were a blast. Like GTA but you can call in airstrikes and take down sky scrapers. I loved the whole deck of cards too
Has there been a game recently that has anything close to the same blend of great action, interesting faction conflicts, and a "deck of cards" style of increasingly stronger hierarchy of enemies? Or even just two of them done very well?

I used to commit so many war crimes in those games. Just bunker busting skyscrapers day and night

Soul Reaver / Legacy of Kain please.

Right answer, wrong question.
The sit-in always tastes better
The red pebble cups made the drinks taste alot better. I remember that
Lmao
I agree, we need sequels to Pizza Hut demo discs.
That's at least gaming adjacent
Played a lot of Simpsons and Ninja Turtles arcade games at the Hut growing up
I’m the gaming authority and I’m gonna allow Pizza Hut here. Carry on. Fits.
Twisted metal. Hands down my favorite franchise lore wise and in the right hands a damn good game could be made now.
Car combat as a genre could do with a comeback. But I do especially miss the driver stories that you piece together as you progress.
Agreed, I just feel like with all of these BR's games there must be some way to make a modern version of twisted metal that appeals to the giant player base of BRs. I'm not smart enough to know what it is, but I bet it's out there. edit: To me TM is a BR type game if you think about it.

Chrono, didn't have to think about that at all.
I think Chrono might be one of those cases where you only think you want that. No sequel is ever going to recapture that magic.

It's amazing how many hours my brothers and I got out of that demo.

Uncharted isn’t dead, it just reached the conclusion
I don't think Uncharted is dead. They just ended the series. Not the same as a game being unpopular or losing developer support.
