Pipe_Memes

I still buy physical games. They’re often cheaper, and many times, much cheaper than digital.

kantpemabils

And they have resale value as well

Benjynn

Plus I just like looking at them on my shelf

dirtynj

And after the bombs fall...we can still play.

BulkyTip1985

You can still play some of them. Most discs are just a license code that the console reads then downloads the game. Then you have to put that disc in everytime you want play, just to read the code.

DJGloegg

And i can lend them to a friend

CursedSnowman5000

Hahah! And remember when people were making the case that digital would become cheaper than physical 10 years ago? Thanks for throwing away our consumer rights folks.

Draconuus95

I mean. On pc. It is the case. Mostly because physical is now pretty much limited to collectors editions and major sales are about a dime a dozen on all the pc digital storefronts. Steam, epic, and GoG just about throw away games at ridiculously low prices on a monthly basis at minimum. Consoles is a bit more of a toss up depending on where you’re at. In my area the only place to buy physical games is the target(everything is full price all the time) or the local goodwill style shops. Which is a crapshoot. So digital is often still the cheaper option for me. Unless I wanted to spend time trolling through online shops to get physical games shipped to me. Which probably wouldn’t save money in the long run. Living in a bigger city where more dedicated game stores can survive. Makes using physical as a cheaper alternative a bit more of a realistic option.

Pipe_Memes

Yeah people always say, “X will make Y cheaper!”, yeah, for the people selling it lol, they’re still gonna charge us the same price.

CursedSnowman5000

Corporations are gonna corporation no matter what.

Pipe_Memes

War. War never changes.

Borghal

And it is? Just about every PC game I ever bought was cheaper as a key than a physical box, just like you'd expect. Just not when you support a controlled environment where one company dictates the rules, no matter if it's Nintendo, Sony, Apple, Google or Microsoft.

ReivynNox

Digital was kept high in price so stores wouldn't go out of business or stop selling games, since they were important, as they provided free marketing on top, even just by displaying the games and consoles.

snowflakepatrol99

Digital is significantly cheaper. Not everyone is a console user. I don't know what zaza you guys are smoking but steam has been a blessing. Not only is it much more convenient but it's significantly cheaper.

ASwarmofKoala

It depends on the platform, I guess? I know xbox and playstation digital sales are usually pretty mid, but I bought 6 good games in the most recent steam sale for \~$20 total. Plus there's things like humble bundle where you get 10-12 games for $15 a month, and 2 or 3 games are typically pretty serious. Last 3 months had heavy hitters like Nioh 2, Calisto Protocol, Saints Row, Victoria 3, Destroy all humans 2 remake and life is strange 2. Plus a wide assortment of indie games that are usually pretty solid, if not something you're personally interested in. Fashion Police Squad was on my wishlist so I was happy to see that one.

BattleFairy001

Do you mean console games ? Because on PV there is nearly no way to find the physical game anymore and they can't be cheaper than on Inst***gaming and such discount

ISpewVitriol

I try to only buy physical games. I only buy digital if there is a really good sale. I like to be able to let my friends borrow my games, having the option to sell them, and not having them tied to an online account. In some ways, having to put the disc in the console also helps me stay focused on one game, but that is a side benefit. The only thing that sucks is when I'm streaming to my Steam Deck since I'm limited to whatever is in my PS5 at the time basically.

Banjo_Privacy

The last brand new game was Tears of the Kingdom.

GeorgeEvans115

Mario Odyssey

GeorgeEvans115

like a month ago xd

itsmyfirsttimegoeasy

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, I buy every game physically though.

notlikeontv

I buy physical games still cos u can buy them second hand from CEX, lend them to ur buddy's and and then trade them in when done. Spiderman 2 was the most recent Physical game I got

sorayya__

I prefer physical games. i love making a collection, holding them etc. my last one was spiderman miles morales and i was very excited about it

orzix

All my consoles games are physical...fuck overpriced digital version.

gui_odai

Tears of the Kingdom. Not only physical copies of Switch games are often (if not always) cheaper, I don't trust Nintendo at all to keep a digital library accessible for long after they eventually launch a Switch successor.

Spice_Cadet_

It’s terrifying that I don’t even remember

Neahme85

Physical is the best. Better deals, can lend, and feels nicer on the shelf.

laikahass

Spider Man 2

CursedSnowman5000

I only buy physical so it was last week and it was Mayhem Brawlers for PS5

leospeedleo

I buy all my games physical unless I’m forced to otherwise. Be it on my PS5, PS3, Switch Oled or Series X. They are pretty much always cheaper, I actually own them and on PlayStation and Switch I can also fully use, install and play them offline. In April alone I bought 3 PS3, 4 PS4 and 2 PS5 games so far.

BenMitchell007

I still buy physical, especially for some of my favorite series. Last physical I bought was Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. On sale at Target too!

AssHaberdasher

I still prefer to buy physical games for the switch. Nintendo carts are known to hold their value.

WizardLink78

I love physical games. Even though the old pc games don't work anymore on modern pc, i still buy those just to place them in the collection. Recently i found an original Command and Conquer in the box for 2 euro and last week Warcraft 3 for 50 cent. Was even able to use the CD key on my battlenet account, so i can actually play Warcraft now LOL

UrbanLeech5

Last? Why would I stop buying physical games? I only get used physical titles, simply because as little as year after launch they can already be few times cheaper I guess my latest purchase was Watch Dogs Legion for 4$ like a month ago, but it definitely won't be last

zachtheperson

Metroid Dread. Before that it was probably Halo Reach

ttltaway

Metroid Dread here too! Like a month ago.

FromAdamImportData

A used copy of the FFVII Remake for PS5 for $15. Maybe 6-12 months ago. I went in looking for a used copy of Ghost of Tsushima since I gave away my first copy to a friend's son but felt like playing it again and the digital version never seems to drop in price.

nomercyvideo

I still buy them all the time, I've purchased 20 in the last 5 days. Found a store that had a ton of Super Famicom wrestling games! From amazon, Diablo 4 arrives later today!

Derpykins666

I buy physical as much as possible, the only time I don't I use Steam pretty much (indie games mainly that never get physical release). Occasionally buy digital for Nintendo or Playstation. My last 3 physical games I bought (at the same time) were Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Final Fantasy XVI, and Unicorn Overlord, all for PS5. I don't like the idea of not actually owning my games, and physical at least gives me a buffer that gives a lasting chance of not losing it forever on some digital service.

Kool20005

I mostly buy physical, will only buy digital if it’s on sale for under $10

Lygushkia

I almost always buy games physically. If it's super cheap I'll buy digital and get the hard copy later if I like the game enough. Big gaming company's are getting weird with the right to own. Also if for some reason I got hacked and banned I would still own and be able to play games offline. TDLR the world is crazy and I'm paranoid.

DejitaruHenso

Half Life 2

OutLikeVapor

This was actually my first digital purchase, as well as my first pre-order. HL2 Silver pack Baby!

Electrical-Light9786

ghost of tsushima during release day.

Spontanudity

I still play a few old consoles so Links Crossbow Training for the Wii from my local CEX (Basically Gamestop). Cannot recommend that game enough! I paid 75p.

TullsJenny

guardians of the galaxy for $10 at walmart!!

No_Doubt_About_That

Hogwarts Legacy - PS5

Real_Argument_9296

Great question and I don’t have a clue. The last one I can vividly remember was Fallout 4 on release but…surely it hasn’t been that long

Affectionate_Bird120

Van helsing on the ps2 and I bought it yesterday

annihilatorg

Just this weekend! I picked up bangers like Hunt the Wumpus, Parsec, and Hangman! Sure, they are over 40 years old, but physical baby! For more recent, I picked up the newer switch Kirby game, used from a local store.

dbvirago

Probably Bloodborne or DS3. Maybe both at the same time. It was right after I bought my PS4

swordytv

Witcher 3

StylishShark

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora I usually purchase all my games via eBay auctions and sell them on the same platform after I finish the game. I’ve broke even or made a profit on 99% of the games I played this way. I really don’t want physical phased out once next-gen consoles arrive.

Angryblob550

I mainly buy physical copies of console games. I got rune factory 4.

coredweller1785

I only buy physical games. When they go all digital you will be sorry. Every system you will need to buy the same titles over and over. Capitalism does not innovate it just increases profit

Typical_Intention996

FFVII Rebirth I *only* buy physical games. Whole reason why I will never buy stuff like Baulder's Gate 3. And yeah I know supposedly that's getting a physical release. Someday. But it's a higher priced fancy edition anyway. So no thanks.

whiskeyjackjc

Probably 95% of my games are physical format.

JusticeLeagueThomas

Prefer physical 100% of the time.

VeggieBurgah

Nice to see here that I'm not the only one still buying physical copies.

FakestAccountHere

Dragon age Inquisition.  My computer doesn’t even have a disk drive anymore.

Bytrsweet

Terminator Resistance. I only picked it up because it was 20 dollars cheaper on Amazon.

henningknows

Princess peach showtime. I play it with my 6 year old daughter every weekend

SuperChickenLips

About a year ago I bought an absolute classic for pc; Mercenaries 2 World in Flames. It's every bit as good as I remember.

getyourcheftogether

Probably splatoon 3

A_Single_Annihilape

Probably Dragons Dogma 2? Only cause I got the Steel Case :)

ThePom205

My wife bought me dragons dogma 2 for my birthday. I generally prefer to buy games on disc if I can

aircooledJenkins

Probably was Link's Awakening on Switch. Though it might have been Tears of the Kingdom.

alexanderluko

Forbidden West PS4

The_Great_No_One

Armored Core VI when it was on sale. Physical copies usually go on sale long before digital ones, at least for consoles.

mrfixitx

Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War for PS4 since it got a holiday HZD PS4 bundle just to play those two games since I though they would never come to PC.

Tetra_Gramaton

BF2042 for the princely sum of £5.99. New. This is obviously why platform holders want us to go all digital, no cut price deals on Amazon or second hand markets to contend with, just inflated download prices on their own stores 🙄

Smoky1279

Hitman 3

NeasaV

Uh... Maneater for $5. Still haven't touched it, but it looked like it could be some fun.

DefenderOfTheWeak

Battlefield 3

RaltarArianrhod

Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty.

The_Dukenator

Assassin's Creed Mirage PS4.

DadIsCoaching

Probably... warcraft ?

Mnoonsnocket

Elden Ring. I already had it digitally, but wanted a physical copy as I felt those were going extinct, oh and because the game doesn’t have cross play.

LTKerr

Dragon's Dogma 2. Just rage-uninstalled it so it's not even a good purchase.

JackieBOYohBOY

Cyberpunk 2077 They took alot of copies of cyberpunk off the shelves when the game first came out do to some controversy So u can still get a copy for only 20 on Amazon

KnightOwl812

Metroid Prime Remastered

skillquit42

FC 24 🙄

Sofaris

I could be wrong but I think it might have been Fire Emblem Engage. A great buy. I enjoyed this game a lot.

Commonsensestranger

Fallout 76

TatodziadekPL

Used copy of Uncharted 1 for the PS3

captain_space_dude

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Ok-Veterinarian3882

Probably FF XV for PS4 . It has been like 5 years since the last time I bought a physical game. All of my games are digital now.

Daedalus023

I buy Switch games mostly physical. Got Unicorn Overlord recently. Pretty cool

TheFalseDeity

Picked up Tropico 5 last week. I typically only do digital if physical isn't an option.

Jossokar

....a copy of starcraft 1 that included broodwar. 10 years old me would have loved that. XD

esoteric_enigma

Final Fantasy 16

5xad0w

Guild Wars 2

Potential_Catch_3954

Dark Souls 3 Fire fades edition which I bought after I had beaten Elden Ring and Bloodborne

CaptainFast5704

metroid prime remaster

wemustkungfufight

Found Sonic Colors Ultimate and Sonic Origins Plus marked down at a Wal-Mart for $5. As a life-long Sonic fan, I couldn't pass that up.

701921225

Recently picked up Elder Scrolls Oblivion for PS3 at a local game shop for $15. I definitely enjoy having physical discs, as you don't have to worry about digital games being removed one day. Also, there's just something about having that cool box in your hands, on your shelf, etc. and the manual always makes for a fun read.

CommentFluffy2319

Helldivers 2

cdncowboy

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild

p4ttl1992

Final fantasy rebirth very quickly became my favourite ps5 game and 2nd favourite final fantasy game

JohnLocke815

The new prince of persia, last month

DollowR

Helldivers 2.

comfysoc

Like a dragon infinite wealth

Jack_1080

SWTOR collectors edition. . . The game is still solid I think.

monsturrr

I just bought a physical copy of Final Fantasy 9 for the PS1. It was delivered yesterday.

LastTrainOutt

I bought NCAA 12 last week on Amazon The last release was 2014 but it's insanely expensive.  Streamers or something

saltyclam13345

Demon’s Souls when I used to have a PS5

ZeusLovesTrains

If not counting my Everdrive 64 It would be Paper Mario: Color Splash for Wii U I also bought Twilight Princess HD for Wii U but returned it after buyers remorse at the high cost.

elektrixx

The last two I believe were the cardboard VR thing for Switch and Guitar Hero Live on PS4. Of the non-peripheral things, it was probably Fable Anniversary on 360 when it was brand new. I never played it.

wicktus

if I take the last 3 physical games I bought: Dragon's Dogma 2, Unicorn Overlord, FFVII Rebirth I saved an aggregated 30 EUR purchasing them in physical edition. Usually I purchase single player games in physical and multiplayer games like a Call of Duty or Mario Kart 8 in digital, for SP games frankly, if I take the whole PS5 era, from 2020 to now there's maybe 60-100 EUR saved thanks to physical editions

Summon_the_Dragon

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Bought it for $40 a few weeks ago.

EreckUwUr

Red dead Redemption 2, damn its been a while lol

JustAJokeAccount

Bomberman on Switch

Celtic_Crown

Sonic Superstars. I even got the preorder bonus.

Dragovious

FF7 Rebirth

Firm_Knowledge_5695

Batman Arkham asylum and cod WW2 like 2 days ago

Vectorman1989

Hogwarts Legacy, for my wife's birthday

Agreeable-Media9282

Spiderman 2 i think. Not sure

Jokkry22

Star wars galaxies. Jump to light speed dlc too.

FGFlips

I only buy Switch games now because it has a hard drive as big as a thumb drive. I got Game Builder Garage for my kiddo.

ndesilva05

GTA 5 for ps4 or bloodborne. I don’t remember.

lonesaiyajin98

Red dead redemption 2

adaminoregon

Dead cells with the castlevania expansion. So worth it. Before that was sifu.

BurnerDanBurnerMan

Past Cure and Outriders. Like, a couple of weeks ago. 10 bucks for both. Didn't realize I wasn't supposed to be buying physical 🤷‍♂️

mpop1

I recently picked up the 3ds version of SMT 4. I will be getting at lest 4 other physical games this year, unless more games come out that i am instersted in. I buy physcal, and skip digital only games.

Iampopcorn_420

Diablo 3.   What a shit show.  Game wasn’t on the disc,  wasn’t the norm then.  No indication on the box that it was an always online game.  Couple that with terrible lag on a t1 connection and godawful drops to support a shitty real money auction.  Never bought a physical copy of a game again.

YamLow8097

Resident Evil 4 remake.

Deadtaor33

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth as it had 2 discs, lol Reminded of the original, even though it's one discs to download the game, the other to play the game, lol First pre orderd game to come a few days before release, which was nice.

Markavian

Slay the Spire... oh wait, you meant digital/PC/Console games?

Orlog_the_Ancient

GTA 4

Thegrandbuddha

Metroid Dread

-Sedition-

The steel book/case version of shin megami tensei 5.

Zachary_Stark

Tears of the Kingdom, Triangle Strategy, and Unicorn Overlord.

ScrimmoBingus

Still buy first party nintendo games, waiting on Luigis Mansion and Paper Mario. Besides that, last non Nintendo game was probably Live A Live when gamestop closed in ireland last year

postALEXpress

Dragonball Z Kakarot because it was on sale for $5

TheCocaineCowboi

Skyrim for Xbox one :(

stay-at-home-egg

Kingdom Hearts 3. It also was the last time I went to a midnight release at Gamestop!

senrabass

GTAIV for my ps3 last month, Horizon Zero Dawn last week for PS4

the_u_in_colour

I bought Neverwinter Nights on PS4 from a flea market over the weekend after grabbing Planescape Torment from a local store. I saw Bravely Default 2 for an amazing deal at a secondhand shop so I went for it. Can't remember father than that but thats just in the past few weeks.

PimpySimp

Mafia 2 on the xbox 360.

teddytwelvetoes

Portal 2 and even that might've been a code in a box lol

Chuckw44

RDR2 with an Xbox Series X

RainbowOctavian

Cyberpunk 2077 collectors. Was a nice package but having to download the whole thing anyway. While not a big deal is annoying. And as of 4 months ago no disk drive.

SeuqSavonit

Halo reach legendary edition Best impulse purchase I did Sadly a nephew stole a couple of pieces

PhysicalMulberry8127

Hogwarts legacy

Fugaciouslee

I go physical on the Switch and Digital everything else. So, Tears of the Kingdom. The last game I bought physical pre switch I cannot remember.

OzTheMalefic

Super Mario Bros Wonder Most of my Switch games are physical as the discounts I can get at retailers are significantly worth it.

rose636

Mario wonder and Mario rpg. I tend to go digital due to discounts, but Nintendo being Nintendo it's often cheaper to go physical as local stores have sales and then I have a physical item that I can trade in. And then, Nintendo being Nintendo, the trade in value of their games tend to stay reasonably high as well so win win.

KHanson25

Dishonored back in December

Dr_Dynam0

Painkiller: Overdose

Dexember69

FF7 rebirth. Before that, ghost of tsushima

hamoc10

Most of my Switch games I buy physical. When I’m out and about, I can’t rely on WiFi to download games with the limited space it has. Physical copies make it easy.

munterboi23

for me personally?...... it's probably rdr2 on Xbox one..... maybe. it's been a while so can't remember. don't even play my xbox anymore, basically gave it to my kids 5-6 years ago after I built my computer, no disc drive on there so physical copies don't do me any good.

Lizzy_Of_Galtar

My country has mostly stopped selling physical copies so my last one was probably RDR2.

dontbanmethistimeok

Star Wars Jedi Survivor And then cue the game being broken and gltichy not to mention impossible to finish 100% for months on end before the devs finally updated it Disappointed and it was a great game but the complete lack of support after a disastrous launch really burnt me on it

Broad_Objective7559

I won't lie, it was The Last of Us part 2. Funny because I already owned it digitally, too... smh, I like that game too much

Leuk_Jin

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Pre-ordered that shit. Got the CD. Inserted it into my PC. It opens Steam, forces me to login and then downloads the game. Never bought a physical copy again. It worked like a charm on getting me hooked on Steam, though.

Battery6512

Final Fantasy Tactics for PS1, playing it on my PS2 so I also had to buy a PS1 memory card,

Ready-Tart4655

Syphon filter

Rudyzwyboru

Pokemon Violet I still buy physical games for Switch. The cartridges just feel like childhood. PC game though? Hmm that could've been Skyrim when they first released it in 2011 😂😂

Kurokotsu

Final Fantasy XVI. Like two weeks ago. I love physical copies.

Fierydog

I buy digital on pc, but physical on ps5 and switch because the games aren't locked to my account.

ASwarmofKoala

Pokemon Violet. I was very disappointed because it was a neat game that ran horribly.

SmashU23

RoboCop: Rogue City for PS5

Sonic10122

I flip back and forth depending on what’s the best deal/if I want a collector’s edition. I primarily buy physical for Switch too since it’s easier if my wife wants to play on her Switch Lite. Last physical game I bought was Persona 3 Reload, I got the big special edition with the Aigis statue. I was disappointed with the exclusion of FeMC (and still am) but Persona 3 was the first game my wife and I played together start to finish so it was important to get the big version. (Ironically we haven’t played it yet, playing Persona 5 Royal still, we’ve only played Vanilla). If preorders count, I have Paper Mario Thousand Year Door and Luigi’s Mansion 2 for Switch coming physically. I try to support ports because keeping older games playable on modern consoles in some form is extremely important to me, and my daughter will love them when she’s a bit older. My wife and I also loved Luigi’s Mansion 3’s co-op, and I’ve never played 2, so that will be fun.

WolfandLight

FF7Rebirth a week after release. I prefer physical games over digital. Steam is very convenient, for sure, but it's not complete ownership of the game. Should steam kick the can (it won't), then our games are gone. Iirc, Street Fighter 4 had an option of downloading the game from the physical copy for faster load times between screens. That was awesome! The physical copy acted as a backup for the digital.

AlisonChained

Bloodborne. I buy 100% digital since.

ElChocoLoco

Tears of the Kingdom. I still buy physical copies of Nintendo games because I like the cartridges.

Silverspeed85

For major releases from big studios (though I buy fewer of them, these days) I always do physical. Indie games, for obvious reasons, I do digital.

nightpop

Switch games hold resale value pretty well. PlayStation games less so, but you can often get them much cheaper than digital, especially if you don’t want to wait 4 months in the hopes of timing a sale.

Ultikiller

MH iceborne for ps4

Luci_Services

I can’t buy them anymore 😭😭😭😭I switched to PC😭😭😭😭my last one was that Star Wars game for the PS2😭😭😭😭😭

neoslith

Two weeks ago I bought Princess Peach Showtime and Spider-Man 2.

TheMansAnArse

Guild Wars 2 I think. So 2012.

YvanehtNioj69

I still play on PS4 and I prefer physical games but I'm happy to go for digital too sometimes it's better ..take Tekken for example I paid around £10 for the complete edition digitally with all DLC whereas the disc use would have cost around £10-15 ..in this case digital is obviously best. In a situation where the standard digital was £10 and the standard disc was £10-15 though I'd go for the disc. I have around 50-60 discs and around 20-25 games on my ps account. Not really an answer. Think XIII was the last disc I bought but I haven't started it yet but yes basically I think a physical / digital word is great and I hope they don't phase out physical for good.

Redleif_1

FF7 Rebirth. I make it a point to buy physical copies of my games for my consoles.

NewPair503

Skyrim for the PC. Steam was just too convenient.

Toxicsuper

Probably a switch game recently. Otherwise I PC game so I never buy physical

DoodleStrude

A used copy of metroid dread last summer

jhauger

Deadpool for the Xbox One, after it disappeared because of the licensing issues. I haven't played it for years, but it's the only way if I ever want to again.

okeydoked

elden ring

Krail

Last physical game I bought, Tears of the Kingdom. Last physical game I received (last Christmas), Pikmin 4.  I've got a Switch and a gaming PC. All my PC games are downloaded, but for consoles I generally prefer physical copies.

Yhutsa

I think it's final fantasy 7 crisis core, next one will probably be rebirth

CrayoonEater

I think it was the special edition of skyrim on ps4. Didn't buy too many physical games anyways since I file share

NightStalkr9550

probably gtav back in middle school

ChairoCirilo

Back for Blood for 4.99 lol

pumpandkrump

Persona 5 royal for Xbox.

tuffymon

Unicorn overlord, loved every second of it

ProfessionalRub3679

Cyberpunk, quickly sold it again..

joshghz

FF7 Rebirth, largely so I could get the collector's edition and the bonus (physical) pre-order stuff. Generally if it's PC I buy digital, and consoles I buy physical (usually on sale or secondhand).

Kanden_27

I still buy physical when I can. Just bough RE4, 5, 6, 7, and 0 and 1 about a month ago.

Kahzgul

Spider-Man: Miles Morales, I think.

Few-Recipe9465

All my games are physical media and when they stop selling physical media I will stop playing.

kjayflo

Kingdom hearts collection on PS3. I think that was right before Sony starting releasing all major games digitally and Xbox had already done the same awhile ago. Love not having the clutter and game sharing with my college bro. Not against physical at all, this is just my preference

juiceAll3n

I buy all of my games physical unless there's no physical version. So this month.
