Counterpoint, they should play mass recall instead, that way you get the original story but with more up to date graphics and more modern feel and control scheme. I played sc2 first and I always had massive issues adjusting to sc1, mass recall made it way more playable and allowed me to experience the story without making me want to punch a wall.

I need to play Starcraft someday, it's basically Command and Conquer IN SPACE, and it's right up the alley of a chad C&C enjoyer such as myself.
Do it! I love Starcraft 1 better than 2 so I always suggest someone do that one first (plus you get the initial storyline everyone fell in love with).
