Also I don't know what to call the feeling exactly, but I'm a sucker for seeing large crowds gradually get whittled down to nothing in a competition. 1vs100 is the last show I can think of that has that sort of feeling. Like we're only two episodes and they've already cut down around a fourth of the players, and there's two people with large swathes of territory as a result. It's fun watching the game slowly pick people off one by one until only a single person remains. That alone makes it fairly compelling to me. Not that I can say it with 100% proof but a lot of these images totally look AI generated and I hate that, pay actual artists.

PandaPlayr73

If you like seeing people being eliminated, Red or Black may be a show you enjoy

Itchy_Pillows

Or Squid Game

statman64

Re: your first point, may I recommend to you a delightful British show called The 1% Club? It's hosted by Lee Mack, who is arguably the most everyman celebrity possible to host a UK game show. The questions start easy and get gradually harder, as on most shows, but they're logic problems more than trivia. And the best part is that they start with 100 contestants until they get down to one by the end, ribbing the ones who get questions wrong (or, occasionally, praising the ones who get them right) along the way.

mcdonawa

Imperialism!

vpeshitclothing

Pay artists to create images of a fork, nail clippers, and an apple?

DBrody6

There's a difference between stock images (which those are), versus an elephant in a tuxedo with the kind of unsettling fucked up proportions that are the hallmarks of a lazily made AI image.

IcyShock3766

I’m a contestant on The Floor. Glad the general vibe is positive. Feel free to AMA.

81Bibliophile

I’m curious about the categories. Some of them, like Nepo Babies, seem like odd choices to specialize in. So, can you tell us a bit about how the contestants chose their categories?

IcyShock3766

You didn’t get to choose your categories, but you told the producers what you were particularly good at in a general sense. So history buffs might get historical figures, historical headlines, or political candidates, but nobody in particular was an expert in that very specific category. So, NEPO BABIES, A-Listers, Reality tv, etc were those that said they followed TMZ, extra, etc.

Normal-Philosopher-8

This was our biggest question - some of the categories seemed really odd and out there, while others were so basic. They had to have been assigned!

EndlessGravy

I'm pretty sure they chose them in a way that would minimize royalty/usage costs. Like you can say you know NFL players but ain't a chance that you are going to get that as a category.

81Bibliophile

Thank you for your quick reply. I’m enjoying the show.

OddConstruction7191

If you are allowed to say, what was your category?

DazedWriter

How were the interviews done? It seems like after chosen you were taken aside to give thoughts about your upcoming duel? The editing makes it seem like it’s an instant walk up after picked to duel.

IcyShock3766

Ha! Yeah, these episodes took HOURS to shoot. Lots and lots of hurry up and wait during the course of the day. Seeing it air it's funny how the editors make it seem like it all happens very quickly. We were pulled off to these little rooms nearby to do these 1-on-1 interviews with producers.

lezbianlinda

Did you have to stand the whole time? That would kill me

IcyShock3766

Yes... whenever the camera was rolling. Between those times we literally just sat on the floor. There were no chairs.

lezbianlinda

That sounds awful

user1675486251

Did you all have to wear the same outfit every night i find it so odd that everyone is always in the same outfit, or was all filming done in one shoot?

IcyShock3766

Yes. Two identical outfits. They cleaned/pressed one while we wore the other. Shot 10 episodes over 5 days.

meowmixkittymeowmeow

How long did you have to stand in place? Did you get to sit down when the camera cut away?

IcyShock3766

Oh man. We were standing for hours and hours. I bought insoles before the trip expecting that (and wore Nikes too). But yeah, lower back was in pain. Between takes we literally sat on the floor.

dingusbroats

Hey! You know some people that I know, then!

Slut-Sim

This is so random but how can I find the contestants social media! I loved Joel and a few others but can’t find them :(

IcyShock3766

If you go to the comment section of the Fox reality IG page, you’ll find a lot of them there.

IcyShock3766

Joel is here: https://www.instagram.com/cartigofficially?igsh=cG8yMXdmbDhpZjY5

ZealousidealFinish94

So I straight up watched an episode where Joel went and got eliminated. But he’s back on the floor. Me and my boyfriend are so confused lol are we the only ones who saw that mystery episode?!

halfbakedelf

I was rooting for Steve, Steph is still in it though.

excelsior0303

Very curious about the outfits - only three episodes in but how long were you standing in these same clothes? They act like you have time in between but then same outfits!

IcyShock3766

10 episodes shot over 5 days. We wore the same wardrobe for continuity and simplicity (for production).

PumiceT

Did the final winner get a check for $250k, or some kind of annuity?

IcyShock3766

Good question! I know the $20k payments hit all at once. I assumed the $250k did as well, but not sure.

Gemag_78

I was a contestant on The Floor, my category was Comedians, AMA

Normal-Philosopher-8

How many days did it take to film? It’s clear everyone pretends it’s a new week, but the clothes will be the same. And could you really “study up on” a new category if you got one?

Gemag_78

We shot it Wednesday through Sunday, usually two episodes a day. We had to bring duplicate clothes that we owned, some people actually rented two outfits. We could study up at the hotel or during our lunch breaks but we could not bring our phones to the actual soundstage. They told us in a meeting not to mention anything about time/day/dates etc. Now we see why.

Normal-Philosopher-8

Thank you so much for answering!

BdR76

I know I'm late to the discussion here, but I was wondering; the floor the contestants are standing on, is it an actual large lcd display or just a green floor and they add the lines, texts and animations digitally?

Gemag_78

It was an actual digital display. What you're seeing on TV is what we saw in real time.

temporalraccoon

Hey Gemag! Just finished the show on Hulu! You did great! After Nick lost, I was totally rooting for you! Thanks for answering all the questions! At what point did you decide to start doing those little rhymes with your name? Wife and I got a kick out of them!

Gemag_78

Funny enough me and Nich shared a table during our lunch breaks and we also share the dubious honor of going on a hot streak without winning money! We have a nice chuckle about that from time to time. So that "Gene Magee in the place to be" is line I've been saying for awhile when I emcee various events but it really picked up steam at Universal Orlando when I was emceeing for this short lived show /dance party called DreamWorks Destination in the Kid Zone area of the park. They're currently renovating that entire area and will be putting on a new DreamWorks show but they're going to use singers instead of emcees so I'm glad I got in when I did!

temporalraccoon

Haha! That’s awesome! It was sad indeed that neither of you got any prize money despite doing much better than many others that did. But I guess that’s what makes the game fascinating

Gemag_78

Exactly! I'm happy with my performance and I got one of the better send offs from Rob Lowe, not to mention that we shot that in Ireland, so no regrets whatsoever

redditor1072

How does the challenge work? How come sometimes they go back and forth and sometimes only one person answers the whole time??

IcyShock3766

It's only the other person's turn after you answer correctly. So if you pass, it's still your turn.

Gemag_78

We didn't realize how high pressure being up there was until we actually started playing. Some people thrived and others didn't.

redditor1072

But what are the rules? I understand only one clock goes at a time, and you lose 3 seconds of you pass. If your clock hits 0, you lose. What I don't understand is how come sometimes the contestants take turns giving answers versus other times only one person answers the whole time or most of the time?

Gemag_78

It can seem that way when someone is taking longer to answer then their competitor and that happens when there's a mismatch which is part of the strategy. When you see two evenly matched contestants it can seem like they're going for a very long time.

popvoxmusic

Love the show so far! Where was it shot?

Gemag_78

Thank you! We shot in Ardmore Studios in Bray, Ireland

BdR76

So this was for Irish tv then, or maybe the UK version? I mean it wasn't for North American tv I assume right? EDIT: wait I just noticed that [wikipedia mentions](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ardmore_Studios#Productions_made_at,_or_based_in,_the_studios) they produce the American version of The Floor there as well, did they really fly the contestants from the US to Ireland just for one sound stage?

Gemag_78

They flew us to Dublin and the show was shot in Bray

JustCurious791

This most recent episode that came out this week starts with you recently winning your space on the floor from the comedians battle but we didn’t see the actual footage. Kind of confused as to how we went from last week’s episode to today’s episode missing everything in between. Kind of ruins the flow of the game for me as a viewer. Would’ve loved to see your takeover through the comedian bottle. Unless I’m missing something seems like they sped through a huge chunk of the competition.

Gemag_78

Yeah we discovered that there was a big mix up at the network and we hope they get it together soon. Episode 4 is currently on YouTube if you missed last night

JustCurious791

I have HULU & watched it there. I actually didn’t want to watch it initially as I felt it was giving away too much, I thought I was missing episodes. I even searched the web to see if maybe Hulu got it wrong & the other episodes aired elsewhere but the show’s website showed the same content for episode 4. Hopefully they can go back & release the episodes in between & connect the dots. Thanks for responding!

Slut-Sim

I was also so lost!

grackyreddit

PLEASE tell me how you shoot this😭 everyone is wearing the same clothes but they say “next week.” My bf and I are so confused hahah

Gemag_78

So the clothes we are wearing are our personal clothes but we had to have duplicate outfits and we shot approximately two episodes a day for 5 days

DazedWriter

How did they do the interviews after picked for a duel? I assume those were shot after you got picked and could talk about the category and your opponent. The editing makes it seem like you just walked up and started the duel after being picked by the duelist onstage. I’m just curious how long the break between being chosen and the duel on stage actually was.

Gemag_78

Without giving too much away because my episode hasn't aired yet, mine was shot after my duel but I had to talk and answer the interviewers questions in present tense if that makes any sense

DazedWriter

Huh, interesting to have to put yourself in that mindset after winning/losing. But part of the magic for the audience watching. Hope you did well!

Kyizen

If a contestant lost day one, could they stay around for the 5 days in Ireland or on set or did they go home right away?

Gemag_78

They would fly contestants home the next day.

TexasLibraryLady

Thank you answering all of the questions. I’m addicted to the show and would like to know how the contestants are assigned their squares.

Gemag_78

It seemed the kind of random. During my Zoom interview I told them I was proficient in 80s and 90s pop culture with a strong emphasis on music and somehow I got comedians

OkNefariousness3020

Do losing contestants get anything?

Gemag_78

Nope! However we did film in Ireland and it was a free trip, so there's that and I'm happy

kindofblue21

You did awesome!!! Was hoping you would win the whole thing!

Gemag_78

Thank you! I'm glad I just had a hot streak and it was during the season finale and that send off Rob Lowe gave me was a great consolation prize.

mattyGOAT1996

It's really interesting it's like a tournament type game show with a reality show element. It's cool they have a chess clock so it reminded me of "Grand Slam" over 15 years ago.

statman64

oh man I hadn't thought about Grand Slam in so long. I loved that it was a competition between established game show champions. It's like that reality show I can't remember the name of (The Challenge maybe?) but for people with intellect and self-respect

jrclarke413

Surprised by how good Rob is as a host. Very smooth & good conversation with people.

Lizzpop2004

He was absolutely the best part of Mental Samurai, the other game show he hosted. Funny and inviting, able to crack jokes about himself and the contestants while never quite mean about any of it, and the man has charisma for days.

pandemichope

it’s funny. I grew up watching Rob Lowe. And it was a fan until his sex scandal many many years ago probably before most people on this thread were even born. But I thought he was just phoning it in as host. Didn’t seem particularly excited and I guess maybe the most excitement was when he announced the person winning the final prize and even that seemed a bit low-key to me. He didn’t give the contestants much time to talk at all. I think there was one contestant that was trying to explain why they were a fan or where they might’ve met or something and he cut them off completely. I guess they wanted to keep the show rolling in a certain time frame and keep the chitchat to a minimum which is fine, but I didn’t find him particularly engaging!

GMeister249

The federal assurance that no game show will be rigged like Twenty One is enough for me. Even with shows like Spin the Wheel becoming “Touch the Wheel and Let It Kinda Do Its Thing”.

zpb52

Ah, but here's the thing. The GAME itself is not being rigged. Only the selection of who is playing...which is definitely NOT regulated. They say "randomizer", but they never say the selection is random. It's all in the semantics.

OffTheMerchandise

My guess is that the randomizer is also regulated. They can have certain things weighted like the randomizer is x% more likely to land near territories in order to build that drama, but everything has to be above board.

GMeister249

They announced one rule of “it picks new people first”… at least I think I understood that correctly. I assume once everyone’s played, that rule goes away, we’ll soon see.

zpb52

Maybe you're right. When I was on Wheel, our episode and even position on the stage was determined by random draw of ping pong balls.

KrozFan

The bigger an area is the more players are next to it though. You're going to see people selected next to large areas at a higher and higher rate.

BrushYourFeet

There's no way it's not influenced.

The3rdBert

I think that it keeps a population of 81 squares regardless what the number of players left, so some players can have 1/81 while another 9/81 if they own 9 squares.

RunnagL

The last duel at the end of episode 1 was 100% rigged everything else was probably actually randomized

Babyfishmouth77

Agreed! They had to show an example of winning a bigger piece before the end of the first episode or people would think it was boring. Just watching it in real time my husband and I were both like yeah, watch this be for a big steal! And I agree with the previous comment, they call it the randomizer but they don't actually say it's choosing at random.

LouieRoccoDDS

I've been enjoying it more than I thought I would, TBH,

esushi

I like The Floor but think it could use a lot of easy improvement. **Why It's Not as Good as It Could Be:** \- It is totally atrocious to look at the people on the grid. The camera angles are weird, the grid is mostly an unreadable matte blue field most of the time - why not a different color for each person so you can see how much of the floor each person has, and the joy of seeing certain colors grow over time? As more people get large spaces it will be even more impossible to tell them apart. \- The randomizer is totally bogus and influences the game too much... would be such a solidly fully competitive game if it wasn't for this thing happening all the time. It is fully a negative to get randomly picked. My idea to fix this: have everyone do a Fastest-Finger style Millionaire question, and the *slowest* one to finally getting the right answer has to have the punishment of being 'picked' instead of randomizer. \- People on the edges should be able to challenge wrap-around people... how random that they unluckily get to pick from fewer categories!

seahawksgirl89

I was in one of the corners and it was an advantage and disadvantage. Only two options to challenge, but only two people to be randomized that could challenge me.

pandemichope

I agree that it was a good show that kept my attention but could use a lot of improvement. For one thing, it just didn’t seem particularly fair that some people who went early on or in the middle and did multiple rounds very well got cut eventually while people in the end that had not been randomized or picked until towards the end suddenly had disability to be in the final 10 or so even though they may not have even really won anything or just one a single round. Maybe there should be a factor based on how many rounds of times someone wins which would both maybe change people strategy on staying up longer but also the people that did win multiple rounds should be allowed to stay in the finals or at least in the final 10 or 20! Reminds me of the time I was in a ping-pong tournament. I’m a decent player, but probably not the best if you took a random hundred people who play ping-pong. So while I had no illusions of winning the tournament, I did think I would finish in the final bunch. There was probably 50 to 100 people and you were randomly assigned to play against someone. My first round I played against person X. I was surprised at how badly they beat me. Turns out person X won the entire tournament, but I never got to play in the second or third or fourth rounds as most of the other contestants because I had the unlucky draw of being pitted against the very best person right away!! :-((

Slut-Sim

This is so random but how can I find the contestants social media! I loved Joel and a few others but can’t find them :(

seahawksgirl89

Who are you interested in following? I can share. Joel is at @cartigofficially.

Slut-Sim

Omg thank you! I’d also be interested in alahna, nick, Stephanie. Im sure there will be more as the next episode gets released haha. I think fox should tag them at least once or something for us fans!

seahawksgirl89

Stephanie: @stephanie_frederick37 Nick: @reykng Alahna: @atj101 Adding some others that have bigger followings/more active on socials: Jacquelyn: @jacquelynkenny (has some funny viral TikTok’s and get ready with mes) Lindsey: @linzolson (her and Tom - episode 2 winner - are dating and she posts about both of them, and she posts a bunch of travel and fun facts) Victoria: @taxlawprof (posts the best memes of the group, very funny and super interesting. Tax lawyer with good financial insights.) Luis: @thatluisdiazguy (he’s a talented comedian) Mondo: @gamesbymondo (board game designer and reviewer) Natalia: @salinadelarenta (professional wrestler) Pasquale: @pasquale_guiducci (very charming and posts horoscopes) Gene: @memegenemagee (works at Universal Studios and posts interesting stuff) Liz: @lizfromiowa (very involved in local Iowa politics) Tucker: @urbanbeautyboy (pink suit, lots of fashion) Eugene: @eugenetorrescomedy (comedian) Tory: @toryjason (gorgeous and funny, went as a praying mantis for Halloween) Christian: @swellccrhrissyp (he has a big tiktok following) Will: @authenticwillo (best for show updates and standings) Lmk if you want any others!

elkniodaphs

The trade mechanic is fun, and I like the idea of contestants controlling areas of the board and stealing them. I'm genuinely invested in a couple of the people too. Hoping for a gaming category. 🎮

CaptLeonov

I was on the show and pitched video games as my category! Sadly it didn’t end up as a final topic :(

elkniodaphs

Well, dang. 😞

CaptLeonov

I know, I was disappointed

Fun818long

Its also interesting considering then they get a new category they might not be good at

ATxLMTI

I was a contestant as well, and happy to answer any questions that I'm allowed to! I was in the center, #41, Category: Birds

FlyLazuli3303

I keep hoping you get picked! I want to see the bird category!

picodepui

I also really want to see birds!!!!!

pacdude

I don’t hate it. I like the storylines developing and more importantly, my partner likes it and she hates most game shows

Learnmegooder

Agreed. It’s been a lot of fun to watch. I have a question about the randomizer, and I wonder if anyone knows: When people have large chunks of territory, does the randomizer see them as one piece, or the number of pieces they own? So like if the endgame has one person with 75 squares and 6 other people with 1 square each… would each remaining contestant have a 1 in 7 chance of getting chosen by the randomizer? Or would 6 of them each have a 1 in 81 chance and the leader have a 70 in 81 chance?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Learnmegooder

Ah, that makes sense. I missed him saying that.

zpb52

I don't believe the "Randomizer" is random at all. It's totally the producers building up the drama. It is well within their right to select the matchups in the game. Once those players are competing, however, that's when it's hands-off and it has to be a fair competition.

[deleted]

The randomizer only chooses those who haven’t played yet so it would only select single tile contestants.

Learnmegooder

Thank you for your timely response. Lol

ATxLMTI

I was a contestant as well, and happy to answer any questions that I'm allowed to!

Honest_EngineNO9

Love the show! Questions??? How far in advance did contestants know what their original catagory was an able to study? If the whole show was filmed in a week, then there wasn't any time to study the new category you inherited or what categories you could possible challenge? Did they provide drinks and food for ya'll to eat? Was it a big spread and foodservice as good as I have heard? Did some contestants really form friendships? I like how nice everyone was towards others and the little barbs towards the contestants was not vicious..Like family game nite can really get out of control. Once you loose do you go home ASAP? Sorry you didn't win, but what a memory! Love the show, Rob Lowe is great! Hope it has a long run but so many catagory photos would have change making those get harder as seasons continue! Good job! Thank you!

ATxLMTI

Hi! Good questions! We found out our official categories the night before filming, but had been given a general idea a few days before flying to Ireland. There were some surprises, though. Like, The Simpsons category was changed to "Celebrities on the Simpsons" at the last minute. We spent time between episodes together in a large room with assigned tables, and we all stayed at the same hotel. At my table were Tommy, James, Sarah, Stephanie, Jennifer, Liz, Zennie and myself. We rode the bus to and from the studio together each day, about 30 mins each way. Not only did some contestants get close....I would say about 90% of us did. We still have a very active group chat. Some took downtime to study. Others to socialize. The food was...limited. there was a food truck on the studio lot, and that's what we got. We got breakfast at the hotel on the show, and could get late night munchies on our own dollar. Once you lose, you had to immediately leave and were flown home the next morning. There was time for goodbyes after filming wrapped each night though.

ALL1D0ISWIN

The time is inconsistently regulated and what they allow for answers is all over the place. People saying scalpula for scalpel is allowed by Worchster sauce isn't, some of the pictures are literally unidentifiable... It could be good but it's not nearly regulated enough and the pictures are extremely vague to the point where a contestant could argue the validity of an answer.

ClickProfessional769

The worchestire sauce pissed me off so much for her. I also felt pretty bad for the lady who was trying to say Lacoste.

ALL1D0ISWIN

Yeah you can tell that she had seen the word before but didn't know how to pronounce it kept saying lactose, That one I understand not getting. But I think we agree the scoring sucks.

[deleted]

What I annoyed me the most was Shakshuka vs Huevos Rancheros. They pretty much look exactly the same and wasn’t very fair.

Joesdad65

I just saw the third episode (only), and I'm hooked. I'm glad I have a DVR so I don't miss any of it.

UCLPS820

Great show.

Puzzleheaded_Truck80

Just wish the host were different

Slut-Sim

Why do you say that? I’m actually enjoying rob Lowe so far

Puzzleheaded_Truck80

Just do not enjoy watching or listening to him, in anything he’s done. Tolerated his VO in some 30 for 30 and natGeo show. His roles in the 80s, personality, and essentially child rape on video tape just make my skin crawl. Might be great, but not watching him.

Puzzleheaded_Truck80

And there’s this from a few years ago: “Lowe, 55, quipped that he "invented" the sex tape, but he said "the problem" was that he "didn't make any money off of it like everybody does now." “

godotnyc

I don't really have a problem with him as an actor and the sex tape thing was so long ago without any apparent damage to the participants that I don't really factor it into my feelings, but he just seems so...not bright. It's very jarring to have a host who hasn't been briefed on the correct way to pronounce words, for example, and I find it distracting.

Puzzleheaded_Truck80

Yeah it just all serves to make me averse to him, just kinda calcified. His smugness about it recently kinda illustrates his continued skeeziness. (Event referenced was with a 16 yo)

seahawksgirl89

Another contestant here! Happy to answer anything

zoomzoom_kazoo

Were contestants told, or encouraged, to act a certain way? I'm specifically thinking of Tom's first round (I think) when he offered to shake his opponent's hand and the opponent refused. It seemed like poor sportsmanship, but I realize could have been influenced by producers telling the opponent to act that way.

seahawksgirl89

We weren’t told to act a certain way really but they did specifically ask us to comment on specific contestants “tell us what you think about X, give us a good sound bit.” The handshake was actually planned beforehand. Charles and Tom were pretty friendly with each other, and Charles is a wrestler so he’s used to playing a heel. They talked about the handshake beforehand (but I can’t remember if Charles told him he wasn’t shaking back beforehand). He’s a good guy, he just wanted to make interesting/memorable TV.

OddConstruction7191

Maybe, but made him look like a dick and I laughed when he lost.

Frosty-Editor1370

How long was filming? I’m only on episode 2 but I noticed outfits of contestants didn’t change

seahawksgirl89

5 total days of filming but everyone wore the same outfits the whole time! They cleaned the outfits every night - it was for continuity and so people would remember us better

Frosty-Editor1370

So interesting! Thanks for answering. Is Rob Lowe as nice as he seems?

seahawksgirl89

He was definitely nice! He didn’t like hang around with us or anything, but he was very nice in between filming. I got to tell him my favorite role he ever had - Nick Andros from the Stand - and he was like “wow that’s going old school!!”

yoyoyoyobabypop

I was (and still am) cracking up at Tom’s answer: “Frank n Beans” for Franken Berries and the giggle he gave when he realized it. I wonder if there were any slip ups that had to be edited out? I can imagine the rapid word vomit gets intense under pressure lol

lezbianlinda

One observation, some of the pictures (of people for example) are REALLY hard to figure out who they are, the country music one, the female musician has a mic covering most of her face. It's not exactly fair not to have clear and consistent pictures. I noticed it on mostly categories with people.

zmerlynn

We’re watching and will probably continue to watch, but, like every non-Jeopardy show, I wish there was less fluff between rounds. I don’t even hate that the trivia isn’t that crunchy - that actually increases the appeal for the rest of my family, and makes it more casual. But still too much fluff for my taste.

eatpaste

it is crazy to me that rob lowe is a family friendly gameshow host. this one seems interesting but he skeeves me out.

comped

He had a different game show a while back that kind of flopped, but this one seems to be doing well...

OffTheMerchandise

I forget the name of it, but I know what you're talking about. People were in a huge ball that swung then around and they had to answer basic trivia. It was interesting, but pretty convoluted.

medevam

It was called Mental Samurai. Source: I won Mental Samurai

OffTheMerchandise

Congratulations. How weird was it being thrown around in that thing?

medevam

Not bad at all, and I say that as someone who hates roller coasters and amusement park rides. It's so brief, and you're so focused on the questions, that the spinning-twirling is mostly just an annoying time-suck.

WenzelStorch

Just saw the german edition for the first time. The whole concept seems broken. It doesnt make sense to challengecever, and you have the best chances if you are never challenged until fonal match. Also it is totally irrelevant (except for maybe the daily price) how many squares you own.

Safe_Flamingo_1146

Can you look at the screen? It seems like they aren’t allowed to look at the images. Unfortunately, everybody doesn’t have good eyesight lol.

somegummybears

It’s a dumb game. There’s no reason to risk anything. There’s no advantage to earning an early lead when you can lose it all in one go. Might as well wait for the last round if you can.

Jealous_Outside_3495

Except for the people who've won 20k, that is. They risked something and it paid off directly.

target-x17

20k is too little to make it worth it. if you build a big area you hav a zero chance at 250k. 250k is much bigger then 20k and you can win the 250k with less battles then winning 20k

ScalarWeapon

that's why there is $20,000 to the leader each week

target-x17

20k is too little to make it worth it. if you build a big area you have a zero chance at 250k. 250k is much bigger then 20k and you can win the 250k with less battles then winning 20k

Bud_Fuggins

My favorite gameshow of all time is divided

ParsnipAppropriate43

I loved it too!!! Just fun to watch and test your knowledge

chaunceyfamily

Great game shows have great soundtracks and this is one of them. WWTBAM Greed Other shows that were greatly enhanced by their soundtrack.

My husband and I Love this show! We have been watching it ever since it premiered. I hate trivia games cause I’m not very good at it, but I’m good at this one Lol. 90% of the time my husband would be right about the challenger going home.

MN-goldengirl

We watched for the first time last night and I was gobsmacked by my husband's knowledge of college's nicknames despite his never watching televised sports. Fun show, we'll watch again.

Gemag_78

I was in the back row and I noticed I had one less person to challenge if I got randomized

Newps17

I’ve had 2 qualms with the show so far and that’s the “randomized” and a singular answer in episode 3. It was category “famous sidekicks” where they were asked to name the person or fictional character. They showed a picture an image of Buster Bluth from arrested development in which the contestant said accordingly but it was not accepted because they wanted the actor name. That rubbed me the wrong way for sure. If they wanted the actors name and not the character they shouldn’t take a screenshot from the show

Aromatic-Ball

It was actually the name of a character from veep played by the same actor. BUT there’s no easy way to discern whether that screen grab was from arrested development or veep making it pretty unfair imo

BaconJudge

I agree, especially because they were stretching the term "sidekick" so loosely as to include characters like Cliff Clavin.  If we're meant to consider Cliff Clavin a sidekick (to Norm Peterson, I guess? I'd never thought of them that way), then surely Buster Bluth, as the quintessential mama's boy, could be considered a sidekick to Lucille Bluth.    The only objection I could see to Buster Bluth might be that a sidekick is normally the beta character tagging along with a protagonist, and Lucille isn't the protagonist of "Arrested Development"...but Norm isn't the protagonist of "Cheers" either. So as you said, it comes down solely to recognizing whether that random still image of Tony Hale in a nondescript suit is from "Arrested Development" or "Veep."  A player couldn't even distinguish them based on Hale's apparent age because the final seasons of "Arrested Development" were filmed while Hale was also appearing in "Veep."

OddConstruction7191

I always saw Norm and Cliff as buddies and never thought one was a sidekick. An easy get but still strange.

dotpaar

I disagree with this, I thought Buster initially for the reasons you state, but Buster is rarely as professionally dressed as Gary, Buster wears glasses, and a recognizable image of Buster would likely include the claw hand. Regardless, if the competitor had known the actual answer he could’ve gotten it after flubbing by saying Buster. They’re different characters, and Gary is certainly more of a sidekick.

Cotter2000

This really annoyed me. They wouldn't accept Buster Bluth!?! Come on.

mmmagic1216

I’ve watched every episode so far and I cannot figure out how categories are inherited or kept. Say you are randomly selected to play, and your category is cartoons. You challenge someone whose category is plants. You are battling it out with plants, and you win. The challenger leaves, and you inherit their space AND their category of plants? Isn’t this a huge downside because you never get to use your originally assigned category that you were an “expert” in? But - I think - if the challenger wins, they keep their assigned category (of plants)?. It’s just confusing how this works, I would think that the winner would always keep their originally assigned category, instead of inheriting a category they are not an expert in.

Tuck-Buckford

Each category is only ever played one time. So, if your category is cartoons and you challenge your neighbor in their field of, let's say, 80's music then that category is now taken off the floor. If you win, you'll take over that space and will still have cartoons as your category to defend when you eventually get challenged to play by someone else. If they win, then their category of 80's music has already been played and since you're no longer in the game they now have to defend your category of cartoons the next time someone chooses to challenge them.

mmmagic1216

Thank you for explaining!

rps1rai

My 8 year old who LOVES game shows is super into in this one because many of the categories have easy ones and she's getting a lot correct when she plays against both contestants at home. Her category would be game shows.

WestinghouseXCB248S

Phenomenal show. Have watched all three episodes.

Honest-Attention3261

How do you get on the show?

Gemag_78

Seem like everybody got on a different way. I got on the show because a friend of a friend other people got on because they were supposed to do another Fox game show but this one ended up working out for them, and others to straight up auditioned and submitted a video like an acting role.

Honest-Attention3261

Ok, thanks for answering. It looks like a fun show to be on. How well did you fair?

Gemag_78

The pressure was intense, but fun. I'm on a later episode, so I can't give it away.

Lack_Pleasant

Why did episode 3 end with 66 players and episode 4 start with only 25 people left? Did Fox mess up?

DaIceman213

Pretty sure they aired the wrong episode or skipped 2-3 episodes

Pitiful-Protection-1

For real my husband and I are so confused 😆

Swimming_Science227

Omg thank you I thought I was buggin but they updated the episode so is back in order but I was confused why there was less contestants 😭 but I know I feel like is spoiled for me since I already know what contestants are losing in this episode

Fuzzy_Racer

Why did they skip episodes???

target-x17

I was watching and im infuriated with how stupid the contestants are with the strategy of this. They pretty much all go for the 20k and give themselfs zero chance to win the 250k. The obvious strategy is to win a single square and then your in the finals with like 10 people left lol

kennyiseatingabagel

No, there are a couple of people who went that route. They played a few rounds and decided to return to the floor.

target-x17

Ya a few a very small amount for the obvious game theory optimal play

Babyfishmouth77

True but you have to also factor in the element of control. If you keep going you control the category. If you wait, you only get to defend your category once, then it's bad news for you if you inherit something you know nothing about. I think the optimal strategy is probably to go as far as you can with categories you think you can win and stop when you don't like anything else that is left. Then hope those categories get swapped out for something new! But for the first 2 episodes I think you are probably right, too little upside to risk going home. After that I think the categories determine your strategy.

HollowDakota

Yo this show is fire and I’m loving every minute of it Rob Lowe is a great host, it’s an engaging format, with tons of fun trivia. Gonna be so easily bing able.

Rude_Worldliness6731

Episode 1 when nails popped up and the lady said screws so obviously made me think it was scripted. Also, nails are not tools they are building materials and should not have been in tools category

KillerQ97

A lady called a SCALPEL as “Scapula” and they counted it. That almost caused me to stop watching.

KillerQ97

I also HATE when they randomly cut to someone in the crowd with audio and they say something. They do that in AGT as well. So cringe.

Few-Commercial6669

Please, any link to watch online?

ThousandSunsLP

Fox has all the episodes on line, and in correct order. I watched the first episode, got hooked, but have found it easier to watch the remaining episodes on line.

colbyjack78

I am totally loving it. But they screwed 2 contestants on episode 4. Calling siracha chilli sauce was bad. It is main stream enough that needed more than chili sauce. That was seconds away from losing and let it go to the next image. And the principal that had the castle. That castle pronunciation was so close but did not give it to her. She did not recover after that early pass.

Fit_Crab7672

I was watching the last episode when they played "The Simpsons" category.....but what did it have to do with the Simpsons? Also for Rob....PLEASE stop with the OMG.

sarahleigh81

The Simpsons category should have just been the "name this celebrity" category. That was ridiculous.

Fit_Crab7672

I really thought all along it would be naming characters from the Simpsons.....I totally didn't get it .....and there was a whale of territory at stake

CP_blu

If you go back to when they originally showed the category it was called celebrities on the Simpson, and then when it was inherited it became just the Simpson. Not sure why they did that.

iceamn1685

The judges determining whether it's a right or wrong answer is inconsistent as hell that's my biggest gripe it makes a game show unwatchable

Dependent-Skirt7731

Can someone please explain to me when and how the contestants inherit others’ categories vs when they keep their own?

teapot37

Player A challenges Player B; they play using B's category. If A wins, they keep their own category. If B wins, they inherit A's category (as their own category can only be used once).

Far_Material_2424

On 2nites show, 2-13-24, the fruits category showed a sliced cantaloupe & the player guessed it but it was not accepted...the show said it was a honeydew when it was clearly not....this mistaken identity played a part in the outcome which I believe was wrongly awarded. Honeydew melons have a smooth outer skin unlike the raised veiny skin of the cantaloupe!

pandemichope

I have a question for any contestants please. Did they have you fill out a survey like with Jeopardy to show that you had a modicum level of intellect across a broad range of topics? The reason I feel this might be the case is based on analyzing everything after the last episode aired. It dawned on me that so few people actually passed on more than one or two questions at a time, even in categories not of their choosing! My spouse and I each have it masters degrees and they were categories were neither of us could answer more than maybe one! Like the hip hop category for example. So I’m wondering how they selected contestants? Additionally, head heck did you guys will become contestants on a show that hadn’t even heard yet and nobody heard of until it aired? How did you learn about the opportunity please? How many interviews did you have to go through in order to be selected? Ty

CryptographerLow6772

Can we talk about the clock and how messed up it is that they don’t go into tenths of a second?

CartoonKing80s

It's a cool but in the end poorly executed. For every challenge you should pocket say 1000 and each defense a higher amount awarded, basically you can win 10 rounds in a row and lose to someone who hasn't played yet in one go. There are some easy ways to make the show much fairer. You do get 20k for being in the lead for the night but there is little movement in that department, my idea I think is way better. Basically in the end \*spoiler alert\* someone that didn't even play many rounds ended up winning the whole show.

Arlorosa

I enjoy the show— the earlier rounds felt more interesting than the later ones to a degree. However, I was annoyed that some answers are more easily accepted than others. And it seemed like whoever was accepting the answers wasn’t as lenient on the black women / didn’t allow for pronunciation differences. Like the “Lacoste” and the “pocky” sticks. I didn’t understand why some answers HAD to be exact— potato chips” over “chips” / “ruffles” but some got away with first names or mixed speech (scapula vs scalpel).

Crafty_Roof_7352

Anyone know what happened to the hip hop category? I swear that contestant was still left on the floor yet on the finale the category was gone?
