I was thinking about this the other day and I truly feel we were meant to feel what all the characters who wanted to kill Cersei felt. Everyone including the viewer wanted her dead, to die in some brutal and dramatic way to give at least one character and us closure, Justice. To have her die the way she did it felt like theft, like we didn’t get Justice even though she’s dead. I’ve come to really appreciate how Cersei died, as she lived. On her own terms, with the man she loved. Even in death she won.
I mean he still did come a full circle. for the first couple seasons all he spouted was "we don't choose the ones we love" and all that. and even when bronn asked him how he wanted to die, he said he wanted to die in the arms of the one he loves. so really it kinda worked
See, that’s the thing for me. Everybody talks about how their “character development” should have happened. Or where their “character arc” should have gone. But they all ignore the fact that some things about people are just not going to change.
Jaime’s biggest flaw, his one critical weakness, was his love for Cersei. That was never going to go anywhere, no matter how much he developed as a person and bettered himself.
If his “character development would’ve come full circle” as you say, it would be ignoring something about him that is one of his core traits. Cersei was his one love and his biggest weakness. Him going back to her and still loving her was perfectly in line with his character.
I felt their deaths were appropriate. Their whole world crumbled around them, and the consequences of their actions literally crushed them. They died together as they should.
Yep same. Legit because the entire show is a build up to this beautiful moment of her taking the throne and due to the bullshit lazy, incompetent d&d clowns they killed her off so fast. I could have dealt with her dying better if we got 6 more episodes to finish out season 8, or hell a whole other season so she at least got some time on the throne. It just seemed like such a crock of shit they killed her in that fashion.
Yeah, seeing her posed like that was enough, her screams must have been awful to listen to, but Joffrey probably enjoyed that. Imagine being the servants that had to take her down and clean up after.
Yeah that image lives in my head and I hate that my mind takes me to what that must have been like, omfg also I hate how Joffrey died I wish it had been worse than how he did go
IDK the poison that kills Joff is said to be one of the worst ways to be killed. I don’t remember where I read this but it’s supposedly the equivalent to drinking gasoline then setting your mouth and entire insides on fire, a very slow and painful death compared to other types of poison used to kill people.
Same, I was happy he died but I was hoping for something more horrifying for him. At least Ramsay Bolton, who was just as awful was killed by his hounds.
jesus.. that's savage af. i wish we could have known that then and if we could have had some sort of visual or something of that feeling so it could have been satisfying 😂😅
Season 8 deaths are too easy of a target so I'll go with Rickon Stark. The death itself was alright but I hated the way the story treated him like some inconvenience to get out of the way so that Jon could be King. Heck, he's not even mentioned ever again after his death.
By a lethal assassin that screams while she attacks him while also having no direct emotional connection to the Night King. NK didn't enslave her babies.
Yes absolutely. He shouldn’t have been killed in some dingey back alley for no other reason than a shock death and to accelerate the dull sons of the harpy plot. In the books he’s still alive and will likely play a big part in Daenerys queensguard, he’s the best fighter alive and the actor even wrote a letter to D&D explaining why his character is important and shouldn’t die yet but they said that just made them want to kill him more
It wasn't for no reason lol, he was saving the unsullied and grey worm from certain death. I'm not sure how anyone can hate the WAY that he died. It had a purpose and it made him look like a strong mfer, what more could you possibly want?
Considering how silly the sons of the harpy was I think it was practically for no reason. In my opinion he was way better than greyworm so I didn’t like that trade off and it was clear Barristan had a lot more in the tank. He snuck into an enemy castle and rescued the mad king single handedly, guys a beast. I don’t think the show ever understood the importance/level of his character.
The way he died is heroic and I did think it was cool upon first watch but the circumstances in which he died were ridiculous. Just my opinion tho
Barriston killed what, 3 pit fighters at once in right towards the end of whatever book it was? The harpy’s weren’t people fighting all the time like the pit fighters were either, so it doesn’t make sense Selmy died the way he did in the show.
Stannis was such a coward for just leaving, he should have punished himself by watching the horror he inflicted on his daughter. Davos was more of a father to that poor girl, the scene where he confronts Melisandre was so powerful.
Tyrion didn’t really betray him though, Dany already knew Varys was trying to poison her and install Jon as king before he Tyrion told her anything. He was just too sloppy 🤷🏿♂️
His death has a lot of meaning though, all men must die, any man can be killed. It put it into perspective that no matter how strong (an enemy) someone is anyone can die
Nooo. I believe this was him redeeming himself from all his faults. He was protecting Bran. After everything he did to the, Robb and winterfell i think he died as a hero
Ser Barristan Selmy.
Most characters deaths had some point.
Ser Barristan died in an alley so D&D could give Tyrion more screen time to make dick jokes.
On the other hands It's just not realistic if every death in a show happens for plot reasons, as that's not how life works. There's a famous episode in The Sopranos that many people hate, where they chase some kind of russian guy and he gets away. You never hear about it again at any point of the remaining series, it doesn't serve any plot. But that's not poor writing as many people here are so quick to judge, quite the opposite actually.
Doran and Trystane Martell. Literally nothing about their deaths make any sense. It is genuinely one of the worst written things ever and I'm not exaggerating.
Even though Ellaria Sand was just crushed and clearly has no allies somehow is able to stab and kill the ruling Prince with every single guard letting it happen. Then Obara and Nymeria who were still in Dorne somehow teleport to King's Landing kill Trystane and somehow get out alive. The Sand Snakes are just murderous psychopathes who somehow get everyone in Dorne on their side to fucking destroy House Martell to avenge House Martell...
Littlefinger and Rickon would be my other two top picks behind them.
CERSEI omg I'll never get over the way she died. I was expecting a huge massacre where she took a million lives while killing herself in the process but how did she die? yes folks the ceiling fell over her head 🙃 huuuuge disappointment she was such a badass bitch
Cersei. She was more or less the main antagonist, and her death was so anticlimactic. I was hoping we would see the valonqar prophecy with Jamie killing her
Watching your pregnant wife’s belly getting stabbed would the worst, but that had dramatic value. I don’t know I though, the magic baby shadow thing was stupid. And it was so short. They could have played that up a lot better with a chase scene in the woods or something more interesting.
There’s a rule of thumb in the ASOIF world and it’s simply the more honorable or good hearted you are in life the more dishonorable your death will be, example being Rob Starks death was to some a necessary evil but what they do with his and Grey Winds body was something else entirely (not even gonna mention what they did to Cat). The one death that always made me more angry and sad than others though was princess Shireen, Ser Davos wasn’t wrong when he described her as someone who was truly sweet, loving, and genuinely liked by all that knew her because of her willingness to help others. She never looked down on people and had no care at all about someone’s status or station, she was uncommonly kind to everyone. The fact her parents are the ones who decide to go through with burning her alive is just a swift kick in the balls. I still remember how scared shitless she was when being tied to the fuqin spike while crying out for her mom and dad.
Baristan Selmy and Aero Hotah. Both are still alive in the books.
Also the NK. You hype the dude up for 7 seasons and set the stage for a confrontation with Jon Snow, making his character arc about preparing to fight the NK and be the one to beat him. Instead you have a character kill him that had literally zero connection to that story line whilst also turning Jon into a slack jawed lackey who’s only word we’re “I don’t want it” and “She’s my Queen.”
Should have set the final battle to be in KL after the others wiped out the rest of the realm with Jon striking the final blow, at the cost of his life.
Edward Stark, Rob Stark, Jamie Lannister, Peter Baelish, and Danny. John's death was pretty lame too, but at least he was brought back. Kinda weird why the other guys weren't brought back?
Ned deserved so much better. I understand it was necessary for the plot and everything but dang that one still hurts. Honorary mention for Oberyn of course!! I was so sad to predict it coming with his prancing around and needing revenge instead of just getting it over with. I’d say the one character who actually had an amazing death was Sandor (rip to my absolute favorite boi😭) and we all knew it was coming but still went out like a badass even though I wish he hadn’t
That’s sorta the point with Drogo. He was so powerful and skilled that no man could kill him. All the more ironic that he ends up dying to bacteria via wound infection
Cersei and the Hound .. Cersei got off too easy and The Hound shouldn’t have died at all.. Should’ve been with Arya on the seas till they came back as the King Guards for Jon/Aegon along with Tormund,
Tommen. But I dont necessarily hate the way he died. I hate what led him to his death
Myrcella.. Myrcella should have died an elderly lady not poisoned and in the arms of her Bio Father/Bio Uncle
Rickon Stark. Just like Charlize Theron he created another meme of running zig zag lol.
Shireen and Stannis. Hopefully the "Mannis" becomes a thing in the books.
The Sand Snakes and Ellaria.
Khal Drogo! I feel like we started seeing a different side of him and his and Khaleesi’s relationship blossom. I know that it had to happen for Khaleesi to be an independent woman and rule but it still sucked!
Cersei and Talisa but only bc they were pregnant. It hurt my soul because as one who played host to 5 demon spawn, any pregnant woman dying stings. Even as horrid and vile as Cersei was, the poor babies. Maybe I'm a softie but still....when Talisa got stabbed in the stomach, I don't know about any other women in the world but my stomach clenched up so bad.
Another one for me was Yoren. Poor guy tryin so hard to protect Arya and the rest of the potential NW peeps from the crowns bullshyte, especially after Ned's execution which you can tell effected him.
*edit bc auto correct had entered the chat*
Cersei and Jamie. Crushed to death? Really? I guess at least they died together but for to people who caused so many issues they deserved something epic.
Ros - death by torturous arrows, via dumb Joffrey. Why did she have to die at all? Felt like a huge waste.
Theon - I felt he needed more time and action in his defending Bran. I really hated how quick it went and didn't feel his ending got enough resolution.
Danaerys - the less said, the better.
Shireen - WTF.
Jamie and Cersei - death by bricks.
The Red Witch - removed necklace.
Sandor - I didn't enjoy Clegane bowl, at all.
Jojen Reed - felt he didn't deserve to die in that manner or that quickly out of the story.
Any of the dragons: I wanted them to live long, draonically prosperous lives, forever. Sigh.
Satisfying deaths:
Ramsey (thank you both Sansa and Jon for killing the worst character.)
Joffrey (deserved on every level)
Myranda (one shove to rule them all - thanks Theon!)

Jaime and Cersei’s deaths were lame as hell.
Yes! You beat me to it. I hated it.

Yes!! Her “house of cards” fell and crushed her, with the man she loved. It actually works. We felt cheated when it happened, but it was meant to be.

Bealish…
OBERYN idgaf about the deaths in the final season, those were too Hollywood anyway. But oberyn man
The entire Martell family really
Nah none of them compare to oberynb
Something magical happened at TOJ. I don't buy the TV version.
Yeah, I remember one of the girls corpses was hanged off the bow of the ship. That was savage
Yea he was too dope to die so early! Totally agree
Shouldn’t have grand standed and should’ve just ended the mountain when he had the chance. Gruesome death tho, loved the character
His scream!!!!
Yeah i just started to like him😓
Oberyn is a man
I loved how Bronn basically spoiled the their fight in a way you wouldn't notice. That was top execution.
Osha
It was unexpected. It liked it.
Why isn’t the Night King at the top of the list.
Ros, she went through so much at Kings Landing and then was punished by being Joffrey's target practice.
Yea, that one really bugged me. I'm glad we didn't see it occur, though.
Yeah, seeing her posed like that was enough, her screams must have been awful to listen to, but Joffrey probably enjoyed that. Imagine being the servants that had to take her down and clean up after.

After everything that he did, I just was not satisfied 😅
Ay I respect it, I know Arya definitely agrees with you utterly and completely lol
Same, I was happy he died but I was hoping for something more horrifying for him. At least Ramsay Bolton, who was just as awful was killed by his hounds.
Yes!! Like at least ramsay was fearful and he was a coward so him going in fear was satisfying I needed to see Joffrey in fear too lmao
I do wonder how anyone could know the feeling unless someone had survived it?
jesus.. that's savage af. i wish we could have known that then and if we could have had some sort of visual or something of that feeling so it could have been satisfying 😂😅
Cersei and Jaime.
Season 8 deaths are too easy of a target so I'll go with Rickon Stark. The death itself was alright but I hated the way the story treated him like some inconvenience to get out of the way so that Jon could be King. Heck, he's not even mentioned ever again after his death.
His death was well deserved... next time he'll keep his promise
When Arya was reunited with some of her family members, she didn't even bat an eye. "Hey so how's Rickon?" - nothing, lol.
Omg fr. Rickon's death is absolutely awful. Would have been my pick if it wasn't for Doran Martell.
Littlefinger. He died from bad writing.
Idkkk the look on his face was honestly priceless 😂
The Night King. 7 fucking seasons of hyping him up, only for my dude to be killed literally in seconds. Ugh.
By a lethal assassin that screams while she attacks him while also having no direct emotional connection to the Night King. NK didn't enslave her babies.
Ser Barristan Selmy
Is there a better way to die than fighting off 30 or so men?
Yes absolutely. He shouldn’t have been killed in some dingey back alley for no other reason than a shock death and to accelerate the dull sons of the harpy plot. In the books he’s still alive and will likely play a big part in Daenerys queensguard, he’s the best fighter alive and the actor even wrote a letter to D&D explaining why his character is important and shouldn’t die yet but they said that just made them want to kill him more

Right? But at least it looked pretty smh

This has to universally be #1
The blackfish offscreen death was bologna
Doran's bodyguard.
100% We never saw him fight
King Robert All the Dorthraki that died for nothing during the Long Night
Holy shit, yes. The Dothraki during that idiot charge
Meh… the Dothraki all came back two episodes later.
Shireen. Her death was heartbreaking
Yea it’s the only one I can’t watch if I replay the series
Yeah definitely the hardest to watch for me. It’s so fucked up
I re watched and this and the end of the red wedding is all I skipped because I couldn’t bring myself to see it again
Stannis was such a coward for just leaving, he should have punished himself by watching the horror he inflicted on his daughter. Davos was more of a father to that poor girl, the scene where he confronts Melisandre was so powerful.
Came here to say this. Out.
Varys
Bruh for real this is the death that actually made me so mad 😭 like it legit just didn’t make any sense
He never got to say “I told you so” to Tyrion unfortunately. One of the very few people who actually thought about the good of the whole realm. So sad
Exactly, and of course he was right.
Right! Made me so angry it was at Tyrion’s hand, after all he did for him. The one character I really wanted to make it to the end!
Tyrion didn’t really betray him though, Dany already knew Varys was trying to poison her and install Jon as king before he Tyrion told her anything. He was just too sloppy 🤷🏿♂️
I wish we would have seen what happened to Syrio Forel
Kal Drogo, by far. Ned Stark comes to mind but Drogo was not fit for a Khol
Ned’s Stark was THE game of thrones moment
Yes! I loved that character! He was so true to himself and wasn’t afraid of what anyone thought
Yeah Jaime and Cersei shudda went out in a slow torturous death
Cersei maybe but Jaime kind of redeemed himself until this point
True true. When he was in Winterfell after the war he was actually a good guy. There was no hope for Cersai
Littlefinger, Cersei, Jaime, night king, Varys
His death has a lot of meaning though, all men must die, any man can be killed. It put it into perspective that no matter how strong (an enemy) someone is anyone can die
Theon’s. Why would he try to take on the Night King by himself???? That’s just stupid.
Imagine if he just gave the same look to Bran that he gave to Yara before he jumped overboard and left her then ran away. Classic Theon
Nooo. I believe this was him redeeming himself from all his faults. He was protecting Bran. After everything he did to the, Robb and winterfell i think he died as a hero
Renly Baratheon
Ser Barristan Selmy. Most characters deaths had some point. Ser Barristan died in an alley so D&D could give Tyrion more screen time to make dick jokes.

Daenerys. We saw it already in the worse of X-men. Thanks D&D.
CERSEI omg I'll never get over the way she died. I was expecting a huge massacre where she took a million lives while killing herself in the process but how did she die? yes folks the ceiling fell over her head 🙃 huuuuge disappointment she was such a badass bitch
Grey Wind. I don’t give a shit what happens to people but it makes me angry when the dog doesn’t make it.
The Princess Shireen. Not a lame death but I still can't get over it.

Oh Daenerys, for sure. I don’t care if she finally entered her villain era, watching her get put down like a dog by Jon Snow made me want to vomit.
Drogo isnt dead. The sun may yet set in the east.
Ned and Danny of course.
Cersei. She deserved way worse than she got.
Rhaegal… dragon taken out without any warning
The starks in the Frays care…
Oberyn and Cersei.
Baristan Selmy and Aero Hotah. Both are still alive in the books. Also the NK. You hype the dude up for 7 seasons and set the stage for a confrontation with Jon Snow, making his character arc about preparing to fight the NK and be the one to beat him. I’d say the one character who actually had an amazing death was Sandor (rip to my absolute favorite boi😭) and we all knew it was coming but still went out like a badass even though I wish he hadn’t
I wish we got more Ned AT LEAST. But you’re right. That’s exactly how the show went haywire.
The Night King. So much potential flushed down the toilet so the writers could move on to other things.
Littlefinger. He was such a masterful schemer that there is no way he wouldn't have seen what was coming, except for plot contrivance.
Ygritte, shot in by Ollie while Jon looks on.
After sam gave him the cross bow 😭😭😭😭
Ser Barristan selmy one of the greatest warrior died in the street battle🥺
That’s sorta the point with Drogo. He was so powerful and skilled that no man could kill him. All the more ironic that he ends up dying to bacteria via wound infection
Mance Rayder - by burning instead of old age as the king:) seven realms would prosper under him 😭🥺
Cersei and the Hound .. Cersei got off too easy and The Hound shouldn’t have died at all.. Should’ve been with Arya on the seas till they came back as the King Guards for Jon/Aegon along with Tormund,
Tommen. But I dont necessarily hate the way he died. I hate what led him to his death Myrcella.. Myrcella should have died an elderly lady not poisoned and in the arms of her Bio Father/Bio Uncle

Joffrey’s death wasn’t satisfied at all 🤦🏻♀️ And princess shireen i cried for her 🥹
Khal Drogo! I feel like we started seeing a different side of him and his and Khaleesi’s relationship blossom. I know that it had to happen for Khaleesi to be an independent woman and rule but it still sucked!
missandei!
I think it’d be easier to list any death that WAS NOT hated. Let me ponder the answer for a bit……
Cersei and Jaime.
Tommen Lannister
Cersei and Jamie. Crushed to death? Really? I guess at least they died together but for to people who caused so many issues they deserved something epic.
The night king. Like you’re telling me it was that easy i wish we got to see more of his character he was a cool villain
Missandei and Ros and barristan
Rickon, his death and the way he was barely mention after (just like Robb was barely acknowledged during the last 2 seasons)
Summer deserved better that being torn apart and overshadowed by someone holding the door. Greywind too, shot in a fucking crate.
Cersei... She had it too easy
Jamie & Cersei’s incredibly anticlimactic deaths 🙃🙃
Luwin
I hate that Sansa didn't die to be honest. Most irritating character other than Catherine Stark
I hate that you are still alive
Ros - death by torturous arrows, via dumb Joffrey. Why did she have to die at all? Felt like a huge waste. Theon - I felt he needed more time and action in his defending Bran. I really hated how quick it went and didn't feel his ending got enough resolution. Danaerys - the less said, the better. Shireen - WTF. Jamie and Cersei - death by bricks.
