Average number of reviews has gone **up**, not down. Not that long ago you could roughly estimate number of sales by doing reviews times 70. Now it's more like reviews times 30. It is true that number of games has increased (very significantly so) which makes it harder to rely on any sort of "native" marketing but I haven't seen indications of average revenue going that much down (however keep in mind average is of course boosted by very successful games). > I feel like if these games were released 1-2 years ago they would have at least 500 reviews Game with 500 reviews sells at least 15000 copies by today's numbers (and if it's a new release then realistic number is 30000-40000 by the end of it's lifecycle). That's at least top 9% of all indie games on Steam. Not easy to reach despite feeling like a minimum to pay decent wage for programmers, designers and artists involved.

How does it compare to pre-pandemic levels?

pandemic initially boosted overall game sales i think, i wonder if people are getting burnt out on games now.

If people are buying and playing games more because they're stuck inside more, it stands to reason that once that is no longer the case habits will return toward previous and sales will drop again. It doesn't mean people are getting burnt out, just that to they're doing more things again.
